I recently tried to download a free app via my iPhone. After entering ID and password, I had to verify billing. I entered the same card info I have always used, but was told iTunes would not accept it. I thought perhaps they were no longer taking AmExp. So I entered my Visa number. I was told that my security number had the wrong number of digits, which was wrong. I tried checking with Apple Care, but all I got so far was to make sure all info was exactly as it is with my crds billing info. It is. I am still waiting after 4 days of letting Apple Care know. During that time I tried to buy a song from my computer from the iTunes Store. Same problem. How do I go about getting my store "privileges" back?
I should add that I had to replace my iPhone a few weeks ago. After that I went thru a period where I kept having to redo my password. Not sure if the issues are related.

The credit card needs to have been issued by a bank in the country where you are - so if you are in Hong Kong then you can only use a credit card that was issued by a Hong Kong bank and which is registered to your Hong Kong address. Why it is like that I'm not sure.
As far as I know gift cards aren't available in Hong Kong, and as they are country-specific you won't be able to use cards from other countries.

If you're positive the information is correct, ask the issuing bank why the transaction is being rejected.
You're getting this error because the store can not authorize the card with your bank.

I just moved to Hong Kong on a temporary basis (one year) and created a new Apple ID for the Hong Kong store. However, Apple won't accept my usual credit card from Switzerland. Why on earth is that?! I have an address and even a bank account here, but since I already have three Swiss credit cards, I really don't want to pay more fees for a fourth one.
How am I supposed to pay for my purchases now? In the US and in Switzerland, you can buy gift cards everywhere but I haven't spotted any in normal stores in HK...

Credit card not accepted on Irish iTunes Store

I Live in Ireland , and have a Netteller Mastercard, its a pre-paid Mastercard, and was applied for and sent out to my Address in Ireland
But when i try to use it on the Itunes Store, it says this card is not Valid in Ireland.
Can this be resolved in anyway, as i only have a pre-paid credit card and a Maestro/
Laser Debit Card which also dows not work on the Itunes Store

If you are an old timer, sometimes the App store gets confused about your account.
You might be "oldtimer"
Or you might be "[email protected]"
This is the situation for me (Yes, I am old and long suffering).
This situation means sometimes you have to log in as the other user to get things to work, or to see things you have already purchased. I assume this is due to the fact that I was an iwork/iweb/.mac/whateveapplecallsitthisweek/icloud user.
Other then that, you might login in to the web interface from your mac and try to update your crdit card info from there. If it's all correct and the card is good it SHOULD go.

Credit Card Not Accepted

First time trying to order a photo book and it's getting frustrating!
Every time I try to buy the book it says that 1-Click can't accept my credit card. There is no problem with my card - I use it all the time and confirmed with the company just now. I've triple checked that the number is entered correctly, billing address is right, etc.
This is my first time ever trying to purchase something through apple online. Am I missing a step?

I am also getting an error message: "Your credit card information could not be verified at this time." It keeps saying it over and over, and I have updated all of my billing information both in iPhoto and iTunes.
I found the other user's information useful because it is 2:30 AM where I am now, and I am going to try it again tomorrow during more regular hours. Maybe the servers are down or whatnot.
And for a rant of my own, Doug found a solution to his own problem, granted it is not a definitive answer, but Doug is sharing his experience and what he did that helped to work and certainly wasn't ranting. So I really don't see why you are giving him such a hard time.

I had a HD crash and rebuilt system. Trying to setup sync and keep getting wrong key on verify even though it is the one I have always used. I have an account but cannot verify or create new one. Why does this have to be so damn difficult?

Had a main system drive go out. Replaced and reloaded and now trying to get firefox sync to work and when I put in login info and my key it says wrong key but I do not have any other key and have used this key for years.
Can someone help me fix this without having to recreate a whole new account?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

You cannot use that ID without a credit card. You did not create your account correctly. There is very specific way in which you must create your account if you do not want to use a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, you will have to start all over again.
1. You will have to sign out of that ID before you can create a new one. Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID>Sign out.
2. You cannot use the email address that you used for the first ID that you created. You will need to use another email address now
3. You have to download a free app in order to start the new Apple ID process.

You have to use a card that is registered to a physical address in India, so if none of your debit or credit cards is registered to an address in India, it will not work.
if the card is registered there, and payment is decline, you should check with your bank or with iTunes Store support.

e.g. if currently logged into an account then log of it, then find a free app in the store, click on its free 'price', and you should then be able to create a new account during the 'buying' process and get 'none' as an option on the payments screen

You might be able to buy the gift cards from Best Buy. They sell iTunes cards and will accept international credit cards. See:

They say that you can't order iTunes "codes", but I don't know if that applies to the physical cards. But you can try it.

ITunes credit card not recognised

Hi,
I'm trying to purchase movies and songs form the itunes store but every time I enter my credit card details it rejects then and I get the error message, credit card not recognised by a US bank, it's a wells and fargo checking card with visa debit, this is very frustrating because every time I approach teh bank they say it's the vendor and every time I call apple technical they say it's the bank, Does anyone have any suggestions?

Contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of the Credit Card FAQ page and explain the problem to them.

Just FYI, the iTunes Store has no telephone support. Apple technical support cannot help with problems with the iTunes Store, so if you try calling, they'll either say that they can't help or will just guess.

When making purchases, content credits are used first; your credit card is then charged for any remaining balance.
