Good iPad charging habits?

I've had my iPad since August 2010 and have loved it.  The battery life is great, never had any issues with it at all.  My current habit is to charge it fully to 100% and not charge it again until it reaches 1%.  I only ever charge it with the wall plug that came with my iPad.  The manual stated that doing this once a month is a good idea, but it doesn't really make it clear if it's a good habbit for every charge.  At my current usage habbits I charge it once, maybe twice a week.
My husband recently got an iPad two, about two weeks ago.  He's been charging it the same way, and we notice a marked difference in the battery life between the two.  My iPad is far outlasting his and I have all kinds of crap on all the time.  He turns it all off, location services, wi-fi, email push, brightness etc. and mine still gets better life.
Recently a friend of ours has said that this is a bad habit for Li-ion batteries and that we shouldn't let it drop below 30% on a regular basis.  So being the internet savy person I am, I decided to search the net for an answear.  I want my iPad to last a few more years and we want the iPad 2 to last as well.  We love it and we don't want to kill the battery before it's time.  I'm looking for a solid answear on what is best for the iPad.  Should we do the topping off method and plug it in every night?  Should we only charge it to 80% and recharge at 30%?  Is what we are am currently doing okay?  Should we use the iPad while it is charging, because I have done that several times when reading ebooks?  There is just too much controversy and far too many pet theories out there.  I just want to know how best to treat my battery.
Thank you for your time.

It is. Li-ion batteries are not meant to constantly deep cycle (full charge/discharge).
A monthly full discharge ('till it pops up and tells you low battery) /full charge cycle for the system to correctly identify how much charge the battery has left.
You should charge/discharge 100% to keep the battery "fresh".
This mean use 100% and charge 100%, but not all at one time.
Use it and plug it in when you want to. 20% use then full charge 5 times is 100%.

  • I recently got an IPad Mini for my birthday, so I was charging it up today in my room and my chargers not worked since, I tried it in my dads IPhone 5 and still won't work. We tried it in various plug sockets but still won't work. It's a good IPad though?

How do I get my IPad charger to work or shall I get a new charger? It's brand new so I don't see why it's not working??

Get a new charger. You could've bent it when you were charging your ipad so it doesn't work, or maybe apple just gave you a bad one . Just use your dad's charger for now.

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the cable into the iPad & computer. If it says "Not Charging", the cable is probably good. (It is charging but very slowly.)
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Can I use my iPad charger to charge my iPhone and vice versa?? Will it cause any damage?

    Hi
I have an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and have been swapping the chargers about when charging. Now a friend tells me that this isn't good and I should use the specific charger for each. Firstly, is this right??
Secondly, I now no longer know which charger belongs to which product. Does anyone know the voltage for each?? (I live in the UK, not sure if this would make a difference).
Thirdly, I also have a MacBook Pro. Can I charge my iPhone and iPad from this without causing damage?
    Thanks in advance
    Ben

iPad charger: 10 or 12W (Apple uses Watts)
    iPhone charger: 5W
The iPad charger looks larger than the iPhone one. Additionally, the iPad charger can be used with an extension cable, unlike the iPhone charger. You should notice that the iPad charger has a detachable plug.
It is more than safe to use an iPhone with an iPad charger. I don't recommend the other way around (using an iPad w/iPhone charger) but the iPad 2 doesn't syphon power like the iPad 3/4 do.

  • Ipad charging problems & auto-resetting

    Greetings,
There is a little problem with my Ipad2 battery I believe. It takes me a few hours to charge it up to about 18%. And it keeps rebooting itself constantly every 2 a 3 minutes. As you can see, this is actually really annoying, because.. Well.. I can't really take it anywhere!
Now, I tried a few things already, so I'm not bothering you guys with a silly question:
"Hard reset" -> Still the same problem!
"back to factory settings" -> Nope, same problem!
"Tried another charger" -> Still nothing, I used another cable, another plug and ofcourse, its original plug, because I know an Ipad needs more power than an Iphone, still the same problem!
"Yelled at it" -> Nothing! It didn't even yell back!
"Put it in a corner" -> It made me more sad than it..
Anyway, as you can see, I could really appreciate your help here!
    Thanks in advance!
    Tips & tricks welcome!

  • How do I get my ipad charger working when i've only had it for 3 months

I plugged my ipad in when it said low battery. Then it got very hot and said unable to support this device. Then i thought it might be the outlet, so i plugged it in somewhere else. When I left in alone for about, 5 minutes and came back to check on it, The ipad was dead plugged in. I got this ipad in November and the charger came with it, the ipad was brand new and not used! So i have no idea why it is not working! and if anyone has any idea please help. Also I am unable to go to a store to see what the problem is, because of the current snow storm!

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • There is a problem with the charging cable that wont let my iPad charge. it is probably the little usb thingy. it does charge when it is out of power, but as soon as it turns on it stops charging. anyone got a fix for it? mail me at simenrognli@hotmail.no

My chargers little USB port probably is the fail. it lets my ipad charge only when it is completely out of power, but as soon as it turns on, it stops charging. Any tips on what i can do? The charger is new and has worked until today. i cant bring it to the store because it was bought in my neighbour country Sweden. Thanks in advance.

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You can still go if your country has Genius Bars

  • When I try to turn on my iPhone 4, it wouldn't turn on unless if I use an iPad Charger. When it will turn on. I can't connect to any WiFi Services or my Service Provider, I can't text or call anyone. When I unplug my iPhone 4 it'll just shut off.

So when I try to plug in My iPhone 4 to any plug it won't turn on or charge unless if I use an iPad charger. When I do get to turn it on. My Phone will Standby for a few seconds( While I'm Typing my 4-Digit Code) then it'll unlock and go to the home screen. Once I'm on the home Screen I can't Call, Text or Email anyone because my iPhone Can't detect any Wifi Hotspots and it also can't connect to my Service Provider, It'll just Say "Searching...". The non-internet apps work perfectly fine. So since I was able to use Just an iPad Charger to turn on my iPhone 4, I tried a Regular iPhone charger that were plugged into a wall or my computer. When its Plugged in, my iPhone will turn on ( Showing the Apple Logo) then turn back off. It'll constanly do this only when it's plugged into a Regular iPhone Charger, Either plugged into a Wall Socket or my Computer. So I Tried to Restore the Phone by using some of the Methods, given by other iPhone 4 Users, non of them worked. My iPhone won't Restart, Restore, Turn on without a Charger, Be Detected on my Computer and Detect my Service Provider. I really need help to fix my iPhone 4. I'm really not sure if it's a Malfunction with the Software on the iPhone, if my Sim Card is Broken. if the System is Corrupted but it only happens Rarely.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,

I recently got an extension cord for my ipad charger and the first time I used it it worked and now when I plug it in to my ipad It doesn't do anything. What do I do?

I think that we all understood what you meant. If the extension cord is no longer working, then return it.
We are all trying to tell you that you can plug the power block into a standard household extension cord - using the short cord that came with the iPad - and there is no need for the extension cord that you bought.

  • Has anyone gone to Europe from US and used the IPAD charger with only a plug adadpter and had no problems?

Has anyone gone to Europe from the US and used the IPAD charger with only a plug adapter?  I want to be sure I won't burn up my IPAD.

Just using an adapter will be fine.  The charger can handle to 220V just as well as the 110V

I created a sublcass of JPanel that listens for ComponentResizing events. When it is fired, the sublcasses can take action as necessary. I needed this because I draw in one panel and need to know the dimensions so the graphics can be drawn to scale.
