Good Mailing List reader (one IMAP folder)?

Hi all, been using Evolution, but the way it handles tons of ML posts which have accumulated overnight bothers me, so much so I sometimes just go back to gmail's UI (single convo for each thread rocks!). Thunderbird doesn't handle things very much differently. In this case 'things' refers to having all my mailing list mail come into a single IMAP folder, with threads that can stretch to several dozen mails (one of the smaller kernel-related MLs) and many active threads at the same time (for example, the dovecot ML).
What do you all use to read your MLs? Any other mailing client good for this? Wouldn't mind just using evo for my 'normal' mails, contacts, and calendaring, having a side app which accesses IMAP just to read the MLs (the IMAP server is local on my machine anyway). Thanks for your ideas.

Hi AndyRTR, thanks for dropping by. If I may presume to ask more questions, what's good about claws-mail? What do you like about it? Is it more intuitive to you in the handling of ML threads?

I have seen a list of Oracle mailing lists at the Database

  • How does one move or copy emails from one IMAP folder to another without loosing tags?

I am using Thunderbird 31 with an IMAP server (one that I control) and I'm wanting to move some emails from one IMAP folder to another (within the same account) which works just fine, but I noticed that tags are not retained. Is there a way to copy/move emails without losing tags?
    Thanks:

I think there are some misunderstood.
I do not suggest to "Switch" devices.
I suggest the safest way how you can do it.
Connect device, where you have needed Address Book, buckup it (only Address Book)
Then connect second device and just recover Address Book, after from Second device you can delete not needed contact.
I have 6 devices for separate issue and in all of them same contact, with small changes

  • Saving sent mail to a different IMAP folder?

I'm in the process of consolidating several IMAP accounts into one, in the hopes of improving Mail.app's performance (most notably by decreasing the number of mailboxes that make up my unified inbox).
Overall it should work but there's a problem: I want to be able to continue sending mail from multiple email addresses, saving each sent message to my single account's sent mail folder on the IMAP server. I'm not sure how to do this. I can set up several "dummy" POP accounts to allow sending from multiple addresses, but then the sent mail is just saved locally. I can keep multiple IMAP accounts and turn off automatic checking, but then I'm still checking all those mailboxes when I look in my unified inbox or sent mail folder.
The simplest approach would simply be a way to define several "from" addresses in Mail.app and send them all through the same account...but I don't see any way to do this.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

The question is, are you trying to solve an actual problem that you have? If you're experiencing performance issues, it could be that there is something wrong with the index, which you can re-create as follows:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any "IMAP-", "Mac-", or "Exchange-" account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON'T trash any "POP-" account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be "imported". Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it's "importing", but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an "offline" state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Also, go to System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • CAN YOU PLS REMOVE AN UNUSED ACCOUNT(NO ID's associated with it)--& also retain inbox mail -after reading one --as all previous mails must be scanned first--

    I have T-bird V31.3--on ancient XP PRO>>>>>>>
When I read mail & sort it accordingly-- the Bar above -showing all incoming mail Tags-now has to be scrolled (RT-to LEFT)---
until Inbox Tag appears---this can be as many as 20 -30 Tags.-every time.
Until recently -the INBOX tag stayed directly above--as originally positioned--thus allowing instant access to more Mail..
I am asking -if there is a link to an UNUSED ACCOUNT -which needs to be removed.
I do believe in MODZILLA _____& know -there is always an answer >>>>>In anticipation >>>>>PAUL BAILEY

You do realize that Thunderbird is software running on your PC and no one but you can change anything about it don't you. So I can offer no information about link setting or unused accounts.
The interface is tabbed, if you closed the tabs when you were done with the individual mail you would have to scroll nothing. As it is, right click a tab and select close other tabs from the menu.

  • Mail 3.6 doesn't show new message in IMAP folder

    Hello,
I am using Mail with an IMAP server.
On this IMAP server, mails are automatically sorted to different mailboxes (IMAP folder) via .procmail.rc directives.
When I receive an Email and when this email is dispatched in the correct mailbox, Mail3.6 doesn't display this new message.
Questions : How to set-up Mail3.6 to correctly display new incoming mail server sorted in IMAP folder ? or How to overcome this Mail bug ?
PS : This question was already asked a few months ago on Apple Bug Report, answer was that this bug will be corrected on the next release.... Seems not...
    Thank you by adance

    Hello,
I am having a very similar problem that just started happening recently when I started using gmail folders instead of my school's email (both IMAP).
I have all emails configured for IMAP and the messages arrive fine, but when mail applies my custom filters and the messages are moved to the individual folders, the new message indicator (on the file and on the dock icon) are not present. The only new messages that appear are those in the mail Inbox. When I then click on the individual folders (I have to click through them all individually) it recognizes the new, unread email and updates the indicators (both next to the custom folder and on the dock icon).
This is a frustrating issue because I do not have any indication that I have new mail unless I go and click on each folder individually.
The issue just started occurring when i switched to using my gmail account. The folders seem to be set up appropriately to move messages in Mail and also have them labeled on gmail ([GMAIL]/foldername), but Mail just doesn't seem to recognize the messages as new once they have been moved to the folders until I sync (either by clicking on the folder or by using the "synchronize all accounts" command).
Any suggestions? I found this same issue in the archived questions (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7513842), but it was not resolved.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Group Id mailing list technique

How to use group id technique (from selection screen) for shooting the mails to respective mail ids after occurrence of some event . I have used the method for sending the mails to respective ids by maintaining a custom table for mail ids, but now i have the requirement to use group id on selection screen. Can anyone please suggest me on this?

I have puzzled over this a just figured out why ours weren't working.
Some background...In WGM, all users have a primary group and other groups. The primary group is stored with the user record in the LDAP directory, the "other groups" entries are stored in the Groups container in the directory as a Member list for each group.
For WGM to list all users in a particular group, it must display the Member list from the Group and then search the Users container for all users with that group as their primary group. (you've probably noticed in the WGM group lists, primary group member are in italic and "other" group members are not)
I have found that when you enable the mailing list for that group, /usr/sbin/mailgroupexpander is not searching the Users container in the LDAP directory for members who have that group as their primary group, thus if no one in your group has that as apart of "Other Groups" no members will be added to the list, or in the case where all the members are primary members, the list isn't created.
To remedy the issue, you must add the group to the "other groups" list for each user. Unfortunately, this will cause your groups lists to show every member twice, unless you change their primary group to a group where you don't need a mailing list.

  • Mavericks Mail update (build 1822): constant folder syncing with Gmail IMAP

The Mail update to build 1822 seems to fix previous major problems for Gmail IMAP.  I've changed my Gmail settings (on the Gmail side) back to my original setup: "All Mail" now is turned off for display in the Mail client. That allows me to search messages and see search results in Mail that show the folder in which search result messages reside...instead of "All Mail" for every message matching the search criteria, as it showed when "All Mail" was turned on.
    Two remaining problems for me.
1 -- Regularly and frequently, Mail goes out to the Gmail IMAP server and checks every single mail folder and syncs with them. It doesn't matter that the folders haven't been changed or that I haven't sent, received, or viewed any mail...if Mail is open, it checks and syncs frequently.  Now, very few folders have new filed messages, so bandwidth use of this behavior presumable is low...but it sure is annoying. You can see it happening by choosing "Activity" under the Window menu, and watching for a while.
2 -- I can't change the display order of Gmail folders in the left-hand column of the Mail app display.  The order is fixed and it doesn't seem to follow any rule I can detect.  The folder display certainly isn't alphabetical or by date.
Suggestions or insight about these two challenges are welcome.
    Thanks!

I've got no solution on problem one (sorry for both of us), but might for problem two.
I have four IMAP accounts in mail: 2 gmail, one google hosted app, and one Corporate.  Mavericks mail (with update) constantly checks all IMAP accounts, whether gmail or not.
This contant IMAP freak out may be related to the solution I have for you on Gmail folder sorting. I've tried diabling the account  (in preferences), quitting mail, then restarting mail, and then re-enabling the account. Let mail finish its IMAP freak out, then drag the folders where you want them.  They may or may not appear to change succesfuly.  Wait a while (so Mail does the IMAP dance again), quit Mail, restart Mail. If it looks good great, if not, do the whole disable / re-enable account thing.  Sounds mental, and pretty much is, but it worked for me. I cobbled this together from hints on previous Mail version / IMAP problems.
My pet theory--which is entirely unsubstantied by any evidence whatsoever--is that Mail's local cache is not being updated properly while in use, and the flood of IMAP traffic is leaving the folder structure changes in limbo until you force changes with the quit / preference change. Whatever the cause, it seems to affect non Gmail as well (for at least me).

  • "Good" mail going into Junk folder

For the last 2-3 weeks I have started seeing my "good" mail, get delivered to my junk folder. This is mail that I've been receiving for months or even years. None of this mail is personal: some of it is from politicians, some are recipes, one was my place of employment, Macworld. Occasionally I'll send myself an email from my .mac account to my .mac account and it ends up in the junk folder. Almost everything that's going to my junk folder are emails that I have signed up for at one time or another. I'm getting "true junk" delivered there, too.
Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to reverse the trend? Yes, I'm hitting "Not Junk."
    Thanks.
    Chip

Do you have two different accounts forwarded to one? That's not good.
On your wife's account, your e-mail messages are junk because they aren't hers. The best thing to do is have separate e-mail accounts. You could also create a rule to send your email into a different folder before the junk filter sees it.
In the future, please start your own discussion topic.

  • Good mail going to Junk folder -- even Apple mail

I know there are other threads on this, but no one seems to have a resolve for it.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Just got my computer repaired at Apple, new harddrive, new video card.  So it's starting anew.
However, even my MacBookAir is putting my GOOD MAIL in my JUNK FOLDER.  So it's universal on all my devices.
Why is my mail going to my junk folder.  It's annoying to have to check every single piece of mail with "this is not junk" and then drag it to the IN box.  And then even that doesn't work.  I'll still receive the email from the same sender back into my Junk Folder.
I see a LOT, hundreds, of VIEWS for this issue, but no one is yet to resolve it.
Hope someone can solve it.  Thanks

Well, let's put it this way, it was never a problem before.  A new harddrive was installed on my computer so I'm starting from scratch.  I have no "rules" set yet.  My mail supplier is MAC --.mac, .icloud -- mail.  So my provider is MAC or APPLE I guess.  It's mac mail.
Everything is set to "default" right now. I followed someone else's instructions to RESET the Junk Mail.  Did that.
But I don't know any other proceedures to take to stop ALL MY MAIL from going into the JUNK EMAIL BOX.
Never did that before, so there must be some setting, or not, that is causing it to do that.
I have "enable junk mail filtering" checked.  The following types of messages are EXEMPT, my address book, previous recipients, messages using my full name, all checked.
Certainly "previous recipients" should not be sent to the junk folder if that option is checked to be exempt.
    What's left?

  • Mail Sender Adapter - read from public folder.

    Hello Experts.
I have a scenario, where I need to read an incoming mail from a public folder, and after mapping the attachment (which is a csv) I need to put the result as a file in a shared folder.
right now the problem is, I am not sure how to access the public folder.
should I use one of the exchange users, and try to access the public folder?
what should I be writing in the URL parameter in the mail sender adapter ? (imap://server/???/public folder ?)
Also - in case I will want to switch the location of the mail to a private foler inside of the user mailbox - what is the URL parameter in that case?
Anyone ever did something like this and can help?
    Thanks,
    Imanuel Rahamim.

    Hi Imanuel,
do u mean u want to pick the mail which contains an attachement from a specified folder instead of inbox?
u can configure the URL like imap://host:port/path/PublicFolder.
after PI received the mail. we can use PayloadSwapBean to get the attachement payload and do following message mapping.
ur question: Also - in case I will want to switch the location of the mail to a private foler inside of the user mailbox - what is the URL parameter in that case?
do u mean u want to pick the mail from a specified mail account? if like this, create an user for the interface only. then configure the UserName/Password in the channel.

  • Mail shows no folder location in the All Mail list

This is a Classic View for Mail - All Mail
You see to the right the Mailbox column. It shows All Mail instead of showing the folder location of the mails
How can I make Mail to show folder location ?

All Mail isn't a Mail mailbox. It is a Gmail Label/folder/mailbox. It has nothing to do with Mail.
You haven't seemed to comprehend what we have been telling you and what is stated in the multitude of links we have provided.
If you want an "All Mail" folder in Mail, Create a Smart Mailbox which has the criteria:
Date Received is after <some date well before all of your email>
Check the boxes to include Sent and Trash if that is what you want to include.
Ok, now hold on because you brain is about to explode.
A Smart Mailbox does not move any emails. It does a search of all your messages and lists the ones that meet the criteria you set. Again, NONE of the email is MOVED or COPIED.

  • Shared IMAP Folder poorly supported in Mail.app

The following article describes the process of constructing a shared imap folder using courier-imap.
    http://wiki.litux.org/ImapSharedFolders
Towards the end it explains how to configure your favourite mail client to access the shared folder. Unfortunatly this seems to be a weakness for Mail.app which has only very poor support.
    ----EXTRACT----
Apple Mail.app: this MUA doesn't support Folder Subscriptions, and don't support INBOX prefixes correctly (see first point). This restricts us to two options (with a third work-around): If you go to "Preferences, Advanced, IMAP path prefix" and set it to "INBOX", you'll have your folders in the right place, and not as sub-folders of INBOX, but you don't have access to "shared" folders anymore. If you remove it, you'll have access to everything but these everything will be sub-folders of INBOX, and will show in a very ugly way.
A third solution, or a ugly work-around, is to configure two accounts (You'll need different imap server names, so just add an DNS alias or point to your IMAP IP). One account will have IMAP Prefix as "INBOX" and the other one have "shared". This solution have a ugly result - you'll see your inbox messages twice in Mail.app Inbox. Just activate "View, Organise as Thread" and ignore it. Maybe Mail.app 2.0 will fix all these
    ----END EXTRACT ----
I am hoping that there is a better solution that the ones offered here.

Solved the issue, I had deleted messages unhidden.

  • How does one create a GROUP mailing list from an e-mail message ? ?

I am having no end of frustration trying to figure out - using the latest versions of Apple Mail and Apple Address book in side-by-side windows, t he following:
How to select; then 'drag & drop' a list of email addresses from an incoming email message I am reading, so that I can create in my own address book a duplicate "Group" list bearing all the addresses that got the message.
I am sure I have been able in the past to use simple drag-n-drop technique between the mail window and the newly created "Group" window in Address Book, but it won't work this time .
Is there a script or a third party app somewhere that will lift addresses out of the "TO" and "c.c." fields in an Apple Mail message and import them into a designated (new) 'Group' list in Address Book.
Or is there a way to create a CSV file from an email message - if that will do the trick ?

Mailscript's Add Addresses script should open a window with all the addresses in the email listed. You can select the ones you want to import, you can choose the group or create a new one, and you can pick the label for the email address. It will stay open so that you can add different emails to different groups.
Your description doesn't sound anything like Mail Scripts.
