  • When will new Intel Graphics Driver Graphics be released for X61

Intel has released a new driver version 6.14.10.5002 for gm965 - any word when lenovo will release their version?  Can Intel's driver be used directly?

intel's own driver can be used but the on-screen display for brightness levels will break.   there's also no guarantee its reliablity as it hasn't been officially tested on a lenovo system.

  • IIMac (crt) OS 9.2 will not boot and slot drive will not release CD

I have just received an iMac (from a friend) its was working find, but now I can't get a music CD out of the slot drive. The OS will only start if I hold the "shift key." I'd like to re install the OS. I've tried the "hold the mouse button down at start up" thing, but that does nothing.
    Any other options?
    Help!
    Tav-

    Hi skierward,
You probably have an Extention Conflict. Boot the machine with the shift key held down, as you have been doing, then go to Apple Menu>Control Panel>Extention Manager. Change the 'Extention Set' to Basic, and reboot. Hopfully this will help. Once you can boot normally, hopefully you will be able to eject the CD.
You can also try Open Firmware.
To eject a disc with Open Firmware commands, follow these steps:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple icon on it.
    3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
    4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
    5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
    6. Type: mac-boot
    7. Press Return..

  • New style hard drives and Windows XP

According to this article, new style hard drives will cause problems for XP due to sector size
    http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010/03/why-new-hard-disks-might-not-be-much-fun-for -xp-users.ars

That is correct. However, WD being the first to use these large sectors, has included a utility to adress the problem with the LBA 63 sector, which is no longer adressable with the 4096 byte sectors. I have not yet seen reports on reliability and stability with this utility.

  • Satellite L300 - New hard disk drive info needed

I own a Satellite L300 and have to replace the hard disk drive. I am in Korea and went to the service center, but they only couldn't replace the disk drive because they only had them in Korean, so I have to go elsewhere to get one in English (that's what I think I was told anyway) I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I am looking for some help.
When I bought my computer it came with Vista pre installed, therefore I don't have an installation disk or anything like that. Because I am getting a new hard disk drive, will I also need to buy Vista and install it myself?

    Hello my friend
I am a little bit confused after reading your posting. HDD replacement is so simply and can be done by everyone and I don't understand how the service couldnt be able to do this. for this action you need 10 minutes and can be done without manuals or some maintenance manuals.
If you want to do this alone, please follow these steps:
    - turn notebook upside down
    - remove the battery
    - near the battery you will see HDD cover fixed with two screws
    - remove the screws and HDD cover
    - remove the HDD pack by pulling on the tab attached to the pack, following the direction of the arrows
    - place the HDD pack on a flat surface (such as a desk), and remove the two black flat head screws with black head screws
Please be careful with HDDs and do not apply pressure to the top or bottom of the drive.
    Vista OS
New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without installations disc but recovery image is saved on HDD. When you start notebook for the first time you will see Toshiba reminder with info that you must create such disc alone using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. if you didn't create it and now the HDD is defective you have a problem. Either you must order new recovery media from Toshiba or you can use Microsoft installations disc to install Vista.
If Ive forgot something please let me know.

  • Transfer iPod Touch Apps with new main hard drive on Windows PC

Replacing main hard drive, which hosted iTunes account.
For songs, I have already saved to 4 DVD's.
For iTunes, a new main hard drive will look like a new PC, I'd think. Should I de-authorize my account on the current PC/drive before installing new hard drive? Then download iTunes and set up under previous email & PW?
    Other content?
For photos and MS Outlook contacts, I can re-link to restored data.
How about downloaded and purchased Apps? Will they survive on the Touch or need I take further action on the PC?
    Thanks!

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

i have a question i will open I tune but 1 min later there is wroten that my internet conection is wrong but

    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
        1.    Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
        2.    After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
        3.    Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
        4.    Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I had an HP laptop with Itunes on it and kept my library on an external hard drive. I had a 160gb classic Ipod.
My computer died and i am buying a new one (mac is out of budget)
When I get my new computer, obviously I will download Itunes. My Ipod still has all the music on it and the external hard drive is ok.
I don't want to "erase" or lose any information when I sync with a new itunes that is "empty"
What are the steps? After I download Itunes and set the folder location to my external harddrive what is next? Will Itunes recognize my IPOD? Will it load the music/list from my ipd or external into itunes?
    Thanks in advance

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

  • Why won't my new hard drive mount on my new MacBook Pro but will mount on my old MacBook Pro

I bought a new MacBook Pro to replace an older MacBook Pro.   I also bought a new Toshiba 1T portable hardrive to backup my new computer.   The Toshiba hard drive will not mount on the new computer, but it will mount on my old computer.
However, I have two other portable hard drives (320 MB and 500 MB) that do mount on the new computer.   I am puzzled as to why the new MBP will not display my Toshiba 1T portable HD.
    Any ideas?

The only way I could get my Toshiba 1 TB USB 3.0 drive to work was to buy this cable from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005M0ICG2/ref=oh_o05_s00_i00_details
I tried a Kindle cable, I also ordered a thick data / power cable and it would not work. So I tried this dual USB cable and my drive is working great now.
You may be able to find it else were but the bottom line is you have to use both USB ports on your MacBook in order for this drive to work. I'm using a late 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • Will a new 320gb hard drive work on a mac book pro 3,1

purchased new 320GB hard drive for a mac book pro 3,1.  Old HD has link speed of 1.5GB, new HD transfers at 3GB.  New HD will not boot up.  Can link speed be changed on mac book pro 3,1.

Have you already initialized/partitioned the new drive? If yes, you've installed the operating system on it, and it doesn't boot? You've tried a safe-mode boot (hold the shift key when booting)?

Yes, it will do a full backup.
and if so, do I really need all the old backups on my smaller external drive?
Only if you want to be able to go back in time to those previous Time Machine backups.  When you plug in the new larger external drive, you will only be able to go back as far as the first day you plugged it in and ran the first Time Machine backup on it.

I found information on how to transfer my itunes library to a new computer. I am going to use an external hard drive for this to transfer my itunes folder to the new computer.
I will then download and install a new version of itunes on my new computer.
My question is this. When I do this, will itunes have all my album artwork for all my library? My library has a lot of my own music and I have spent quite a bit of time copying album artwork that itunes did not add. I am really hoping I don't have to do this again!
    Thanks for your help!

    NicholasLiban -
When you use the Lion restore as described, it does a fresh install on the hard drive that you can select at the beginning of the process.  This provides a complete install of the very latest version of Lion, including the recovery partition.  The drive that you choose for the installation destination winds up like what you would have on a brand new computer from Apple.

i am buying a new macbook pro but i want to fit my own ram memory and solid state hard drive , will apple permit this without voiding the waranty.

yes you can do it and not void the warranty.  Those are the only hardware changes that Apple permits.  Instructions on how to upgrade the ram and remove and replace the hard drive are even included in the owners manuals for MacBook Pros.
