GOOD NEWS: Asha 501 features upgraded

After updating Asha 501 following features have finally made it. though the list of pending features still remain.
Features in
- Whatsapp, Microsoft Office Exchange
- Now an option to clear a single Fastlane entry
- The Music Library search function now does not hide a significant portion of "search results" due to the pop up of the keyboard. As a result, it's easy to view the results.
- Facebook and Twitter app seems smooth with their notifications.
- "Alarms" sound is proper for custom music selected as "alarm tone"
- YES, Support for "Alarms" to work when the phone is switched off.
Features left out
No Cut/Copy/Paste feature outside browsers for the documents viewed within them and from the app "Notes"
No feature to minimise opened apps and switch between them.
Can't delete pre-installed apps
Option for "Counters" to "Clear counters" daywise and not clear entire history to date
Support for custom "Wallpaper for home screen" to choose from Memory card/Phone Memory
Support for compression tools like .zip or .rar, etc.
Addition of "Battery icon" and display "date" on the pull down notification centre.
Support for higher file sizes to upload in Emails as attachments ( not more than 1.5 MB)

Screen turns off completely while you are attending a call and requires to push "home" key. A better and easy approach to this is requested, mostly, keeping the screen ON always while the Call is active.
Java apps supported but no access to stuff online that requires java? Browsers lack support for Java plug-in
Support for Flash in Browsers to view /flv videos and play saved content

Where can I get detailed information on using new 2.2 features/upgrades?

For example, the new Return to Home feature in Safari. I don't get this one at all. Pushing the Home button while browsing in Safari takes me to the regular Home (menu) page like it always did. Since I can't find any instructions or detailed information for this feature I don't have a clue as to what I'm supposed to do/see. One would think that every new feature/upgrade in version 2.2 would be adequately explained somewhere. ??

I guess I should explain it better. I know that if I'm in a app and hit the Home button it will take me make to the Main Menu screen. What's happening is that if I on, say, page 3 of a website and hit the Home button, it takes me all the way back to the Main Menu screen. I expected, based on what I've read about this new feature, that if I was a page 3 of a website and hit the Home button that it would take me to the first page of the website. I'm just really confused about this new feature as it doesn't seem to do anything that I'm noticing.

Blank screen after Ending a call on Asha 501

I got a new Asha 501 last week. I am very happy with the product and its worth for the money spent.
However, two issues i have noticed so far and its bothering me a bit
1. after ending a call the screen goes blank and sometimes it takes a bit to end the call. This is very awkward during some important calls. would appreciate if there is any solution for this.
2. Mail app takes a long time to load the message contents. I know 2g is not the fastest connection but still this is too slow even for 2g.

1. On call, when you bring your phone near to your ear, the Proximity sensor recognises your ear and turn off the screen so that there is no unwanted inputs as the screen touches your skin. But when you pull it back, it turns the screen on again, but it takes 0.5-1 second to the Max.
If it takes longer, make sure there is nothing in front of sensor (it is placed on top left), like Plastic lamination, some accessory, dust or while you pull off your phone, your finger should not be there.
If it still takes longer, better make your device checked at Nokia Care. If found some problem, they will change the sensor.
2. The mail app is working perfectly fine for me on Wi-Fi. You should try loading some websites in browser, if it takes longer, check network strength, it should be strong on 2G internet (Personal experience- BSNL 2G, residing near Network tower, slow like hell, in INDIA). Try changing provider.

No nokia music App in Asha 501

Purchased new asha 501 and discovered that there is no nokia music app to download songs in the phone.It was there at all the previous asha phone released.will it be supported in later software updates????

I bought a new asha 501 with a whats app. But now when i launch whatsapp it is running phone setup and sys contact refresh is not possible?
What does it mean?

Because it works here, we need more information about your setup, for example: Which E-mail provider do you use? Or is that an HTML E-mail?

Asha 501 how to transfer contacts from Macbook

Hi,
did anybody find out about the best way to transfer contacts from MacBook's address book to the new Asha 501?
I tried by bluetooth, however, whenever I try to open the Vcard with all my contacts only the first contacts starting with the letter "A" are copied.
One work around would be to send my Vcard from the Mac by email to my phone and open the Vcard in my Asha 501. However, the Vcard with all my contacts is 4,6 MB big. I cannot open this attachement in my Asha 501.

Email sync problem on asha 501

I bought new asha 501 and updated the software, but the email dont sync very well and cant open any email.

hi friends. i am using nokia asha 501. it is good in many respects like speedy scrolling and fast app load time. but still needs more enhancement. Some things i think to be fixed in coming update are as follows. PLEASE DO ADD YOUR REQUIREMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS below.
Compatible with most popular apps like whatsapp and Skype.
Able to play popular video format as flv/qt/3gp/3gpp/avi/mp4 or at least have a player.
Able to use symbian apps.
Video saving options while streaming, eliminating need of video download app.
Support multiple apps to be opened and used at once and ability to switch between them.
Able to play music while on call like that of c5-00.

Asha 501. Request/Suggestion to make backpanel for...

Hi,
I like the new backpanel/case of the asha 503/502 with glass around. Is it possible for Nokia to create few limited edition of the same type for Asha 501 users.
This will definitely, help us to give a new look for asha 501 users. Both the software got upgraded and made it new and now even if the backcase comes it will be too good.
If this is not the forum to post it. Please let me know where can I post my suggestion.

Problem with Nokia Asha 501

I have recently purchased asha 501 the problem is after recieving few messages it does not recieve more messages for that i have to restart the phone then i can able to recieve the messages . It happen 3 to 4 times a day . it is not a network issue for that i have changed sims several times . even some time messages sent from other phones never recieved even though i have restarted phone several times and that is tested for several times .
Kindly solve that bug in the next update of nokia .

It is really difficult for me to send text messages in My nokia Asha 501.The following are the issues i am facing.Please provide updates.
A)No option to send messages to contact groups (we cant create contact group).Even the basic nokia mobile have this feature.
B)After typing the messages we need to select contacts one by one by clicking on the + sign. No option to mark many contacts to send sms at a go.(Marking of contacts is a must feature of any mobile phones but nokia ASHA 501 lacks that.)
C)i have around 500 contacts, so its difficult for me to browse through all the contacts to select the one to whom i can send the sms.Also filtering of names is not of good standard some time filtering correctly and some times not filtering correctly.
D) please concentrate on the basic features first then concentrate on applications.There is noway to delete or uninstall the use less Assasin creed demo game app that is pre installed.

tonyk00, officially, changing the firmware variant (Nokia Product Code) is not doable on your own, officially. Changing the product code and refurbishing the phone with that new software/firmware is required in Series 40 and the new Asha Software Platform to change to another set of languages.
The set of menu languages and the set of writing languages are limited. The Nokia Product Code (059…) printed on your phone indicates the firmware variant and the set of languages you get. Apple iOS and BlackBerry OS 10 comes with all supported languages preinstalled. In Windows Phone, you are able to download the languages from the phone menu yourself, via Wi-Fi. With Google Android, some manufacturers limit the menu languages but you are able to add at least writing languages yourself.

Asha 501 - Radio doesn't have record option.

I've 3 queries regading fm/radio/ring tone cutter.
1. It doesn't have the record option, does it need firmlevel updated to have such feature or just sofware..
2. In some models having FM Transmitter, even is this requires a firmware update or sofware..
3. Also, I can't see any app to cut the song file for ringtone..I've seen this app in my asha 206.

- Afaik the record option is not available due to legal constraints.
- A "transmitter" cannot be updated with SW. It is a HW component. Asha 501 does not have a FM transmitter, it has a FM receiver.
- In terms of apps we are working to provide as many apps as possible for the new Asha Software Platform - but I cannot provide details on when and if which SW will become available.

Nokia Asha 501 - Won't receive an update

my asha 501 won't recieve an update I have tried using mobile data aswell as wifi, is there any other way I can upgrade my software?

In the Software Recovery Tool, your 7-letter code (Nokia Product Code) is mentioned on the left-hand side. No Windows computer or USB: The same code is printed on your phone (05…). That code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together whether you have the correct variant, only with that code.

Availability of applications on nokia asha 501

Nokia asha 501 with fast lane was suppose to be made with all the available features. But certainly this phone is missing some apps people use often i.e, Whatsapp and Instagram. The phone is really good,but would become much better if they launched all the good apps. I shouldn't forget Angry Birds.

Asha 501 - rebooting while wifi accesing email acc...

My phone gets often struck and reboot while my email accounts are trying to sync messages through wifi. It's not just once, it reboots almost 5 to 10 times while synching messages.
