Good News For K8N Neo Platinum Users!!!

Ok, after fiddling with my BIOS for almost 2 days now, and scanning the forums for a solution, I contacted MSI Technical Support in California, USA. They are sending me a new BIOS chip, free of charge, so anyone having a severe problem with BIOS revisions 1.8 and 1.9 on the K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) please give tech support a call, I let them know I would be posting this in the forum and they will be inandated with phone calls, but woohoo, they are sending a new chip pre-flashed with BIOS revision 1.7.
Please refer to this thread for the reasons why:BIOS v1.9 Is Terrible

What good news?  UK based MSI did not offer any such replacement bios after my problems updating to 1.8 bios.
I purchased a new bios chip with 1.9 bios from a UK supplier.....after fitting the bios I returned to the same problems as before, failure to boot past post and freezing in bios menu. I then remembered another post on this sight and removed one stick of memory......everything back to normal    .I have just fitted a 1gb Corsair cas 2 memory and all seems well I will save my 2X 512 Corsair XL my next project which will not be a MSI Motherboard
MSI UK  have not come out of this very well and from the posts that I have read there are quite a few people out there with problems. Many thanks to all those who posted on this,  it certainly helps to know that you are not the only one with problems.

  • New Windows XP 64bit, but no drivers for K8N Neo Platinum

    Hello,
I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with an AMD 2800+. Just received the new Windows XP 64bit edition after attending a trade show in Houston. Used Partition Magic to make a separate partition on my SATA 400GB HD, knowing there was possibly going to be a problem. This is the final release, retail packaged, not the Beta.
The only drivers found was for my MSI Nvidia 5600 AGp video card. No other audio, Nvidia chipset or board drivers are plug & play. Onboard LAN isn't even found.
Any drivers out yet? I figure i'll have to wait. Can't get updates either bacause it won't detect onboard LAN or a Linksys or 3Com PCI card I tried also.
    Woodrow

There most certainly are nVidia drivers.  The only thing that there aren't drivers for currently is the onboard sound.  This, combined with lack of driver support for my peripherals (webcam and printer) are why I haven't made the switch.

  • BIOS FOR K8n neo platinum

A while back there was a big post about how to properly upgrade your bios and he had listed every bios beta or official for download.  Anyone have that post? and What is the best bios for the K8n Neo platinum? Im still running on 1.1....

Just the usual bios to bios temp tweak - no worries
Have been running with speedfan with a 4C offset think i can dith it now with 1.8
    Higher or lower?
Hmmm... My SpeedFan is running with no delta adjustments on the temps. I wonder if there is a discrepancy in what it's reporting & what it actually is after you boot into Windows
I'd try to go by what the Hardware Monitor says, but temp's always seem to be high when you're in BIOS anyway....

  • Need some recommendations for K8N Neo Platinum

Well I am real psyched about my k8N Neo Platinum coming on tuesday which wi8ll be coupled with a Althon64 3200+ and I want to go ahead and purchase some RAM and possibly a heatsink and was looking for some suggestions. First of all I won't be overclocking my system much if any at all bare in mind. I am looking at getting one stick of 512 for now since money isn't exactly flowing right now and am looking to spend at the MAX $150. Correct me if I am wrong but I am probably going to just go with the PC3200 since I am not doing any huge overclocks.  Here is some of the ones I was looking at:
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series PC-3200 - $141
    Kingston HyperX 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - $141
Please provide other suggestions if you have them, I was leaning towards the Corsair.
As far as the heatsink goes I know several people on here use the  ZALMAN CNPS7000A which looks pretty darn nice to me because it is so quiet but do I really need something like this since I won't be overclocking? I am tempted to get it just because it is so quiet, that's something I am trying to do this time since my current computer is 10ft tall and sounds like a lawn mower. I got the Antec Sonata case with the big 120mm ehxaust fan to help out the cause. Thanks for any help.

Yeh I have been there and the only reason I am not getting it from there is that they are out of stock. So I was going to get it from Directron.com but I noticed that apparently have two all copper Zalman's the CNPS7000 and the CNPS7000A. I suppose I'll just get the "A" version since that is the one they have on NewEgg. Now just have to lock down my memory choice and I am all set.
My bad I just went out and checked the picture for the 7000A on Directron and it clearly has aluminum in it, they just didn't mention it in the description. I'll just have to see if it is worth it for the extra 8 bucks to get the all copper one.

  • A good news for MPC 865 PRO users

the original thread was posted on MSI chinese forum, one guy said he want to buy a tv tuner card for his 865 pro, since the card is  not on sale now,MSI CHINA gave him a beta card, and he found the beta card was WINFAST TV 2000!!!! i don't know if it was true that tv2000 can be used on 865 pro(both PC and instantON mode) because i don't have 865 pro and tv2000 card, but who have 865 pro should have a try,tv 2000 is  not expensive as MSI's original card,in china,tv 2000 only cost 200 rmb(about 25 dollars)

Hello there, I'm from Indonesia, I've just bought MEGAPC 865 PRO about a week ago. My system using Winfast TV2000XP expert edition from Leadtek, as this card is the only type recommended by MSI distributor in my country. It's true that this tv tuner works, but I've found some malfunctions while using TV program with instant-on.
    1) When using 'antenna' option as tv source, each channel scanned will result in good picture but the voice sound robotic (unclear). I changed the tv source using cable-tv line, the channel will resulted in good picture and sound, but I've lost some channels. Cable-tv program supposed to be 16 channels, while using 'antena' option in tv source I received only 10 channels and using 'cable' option I received only 11 channels. So where the rest of the channels go?
    2) The tv mode on instant on built with 'program saving' where you can save your favorite channel, however you can't sort which channel that you want to save.
    3) The FM radio does not works.
    4) No user guide/manual for instant-on
Fortunately, all of the above problems not existed if you are running in Windows XP mode, and the TV performance is much better (better picture and sound). The sad thing is, I feel like paying too much for instant-on capabilities.
I've contacted the local MSI customer support but they claimed that the problem didn't occured while they're doing  my system set up. But they have forward my complain to MSI's head office. I've also send an e-mail to MSI customer support but it's been a week and they are not replying yet.
If you have tried Winfast TV 2000 and not experiencing the same way as I do, please let me know. Perhaps I should change or update my system setting?

  • Severe Problems with BIOS v1.9 for K8N Neo Platinum (7030)

I updated to the new BIOS and nothing but crashes, so I tried to go back to 1.7, because everything was working fine with 1.7 and now, the BIOS is asking for a password, and I never setup a password in the BIOS. What the heck, now I have a $1000 (US) paper weight, thanks alot for the buggy BIOS update, now you can send me a new motherboard!!!
**Edit** Well I found a work around, went back to BIOS 1.5 for now until I can get 1.7 to work again, 1.8 and 1.9 are screwed up beyond belief, you can't set any overclocking features, RAM timings are messed, there is no choice for 1T/2T, currently I'm running at SPD on the DRAM and stock on all the CPU functions. I would really like if someone could test these BIOS versions before putting them up so stupid people like me update them. Also, leaving more choices than one BIOS update in MSI LiveUpdate would be nice, because flashing via the floppy drive is a pain in the butt, lucky I have an extra computer to use.**End Edit**

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

  • HDD for K8N Neo platinum

Im unsure what serial ATA HDDs are compatible with my mobo (MSI 7030)
Im looking at the SATA version of the Seagate 7200.8
I know it has NCQ which my mobo does not have
Will the drive still work anyway?

It will work,(ncq has the option to be enabled/disabled for chipsets that support ncq)  but if that drive is more expensive than an equivelant sata1/non-ncq drive I'd save the money or use it to buy a few more gigabytes.

  • Which drivers for K8N Neo 2 Platinum

I'm just about to place an order for a K8N Neo2 Platinum to go with my AMD 64 3000+ Winchester.
As is usual I normally download the latest relevant BIOS and drivers in advance so everything is ready to go when the hardware turns up.
However, looking at the MSI page, there seems to be a bewildering array of drivers for this board: Neo2 drivers and it's not exactly clear which ones are for my specific board.
For example, I can't seem to find a relevant SATA driver from the list.
The actual board I'm going for is this one from Overclock: link to board
Can anyone list clearly the drivers, BIOS and any other utilities I will need when installing this board?
    Thanks.

Well after a lot of reading, I've determined that the following files are applicable to my board:
    BIOS
    BIOS: 7025v14.zip
    Drivers
    NVIDIA nForce3 System Drivers: NF3_CK8S.zip
    Marvell LAN Drivers: MarvellWXP69.zip
Realtek ALC Series AC'97 Audio Drivers: Realtek_ALCXXX_73.zip
I still can't seem to find a SATA/IDE driver as none of the ones listed are compatible with a Neo2 Platinum.
The closest I can find is the Nvidia nForce3 SATA/RAID driver for Windows 2K/XP but that is only for K8N Neo Platinum (7030).
Anyone know if this is the same driver for the Neo2 Platinum (7025) also?
    Have I missed anything?
There are also lots of utilities, some of which appear to be useful, if not necessary:
    Utilities
    NVIDIA nTune: nTune_MB.zip
    MSI DigiCell: DigiCell_MB.zip
    MSI PC Alert 4: PCAlert4_MB.exe
    MSI Core Center: CoreCenter_MB.exe
    MSI Live Update: LiveUpdate.exe
    Fuzzy Logic 4: FuzzyLogic.exe
    MSI DMI Browser: DMIBrowser.exe
    MSI i-Speeder: I-SPEEDER.exe
    MSI WMI Info: WMIInfo.exe
    MSI PasswordKeeper: PasswordKeeper.exe
    MSI SecureDoc: SecureDoc.exe
    MSI InfoView XP: InfoView.exe
    MSI GoodMem: insgoodmem.exe
    MSI Lockbox: LockBox.exe
Anyone care to comment on the usefulness (or not) of any of those utilities?

  • K8N NEO Platinum 4 Red LED at Startup

I installed a new MSI K8N Neo Platinum mainboard in my computer in December 2005, and my computer has been a pain ever since. My problem is 85% of the time when I turn the power on it just won't boot up, I get 4 Red LED lights.  If I shut it off and on half a dozen to 20 times. During one of those times it will bootup normal and work great. Shutdowns are normal.
My Family hates this and won't use it. This computer has been nicknamed the MSI Little Witch.  I have had it down to barebones out of case with just graphic card, 1 memory stick, IDE harddrive, keyboard and mouse, it will do same thing.  I've unplugged and replugged everything countless times.  It still does it. I have tried Maxtor, Samsung, and Western Digital hard drives with fresh install of Windows XP Pro, it still does same thing.  I have alternated memory sticks, same thing.  It will warm reboot as long as I don't powerdown, but if I shut the power off it will not reboot until it cools down about 20 minutes.  Then I can go through the same startup problems as I normally have.  I have not done any overclocking.
Anyone have a fix to this fustrating problem?

I have the same problem with my K8N Neo Platinum.  Except mine seems to occur after the motherboard has not had power after sometime.  For example, it happened every time I moved my computer when I moved into and out of my dorm room.  I don't know if its the same "cooling down" time you're talking about, but what usually fixes it for me (at least temporarily) is killing the power to the machine while it is on.  Regular soft resets won't work for many tries, but when the computer is on with all 4 red LEDs i'll flip the power switch on the power supply.  That usually makes it work fine.  Also another thing that seemed to intermittently trigger it is changes to the BIOS.  A CMOS reset would not fix that either.  I would have to flip the power switch and kill the power.  Then after starting it
up again it would be okay.  I have also tried multiple combinations of different cpus, memory sticks, and video cards.  I also made sure there were no shorts to ground anywhere.
Also after a year of solid operation (with the exception of this problem) I started to get Machine Check Exception BSODs in XP.  I think this was because of a possible bad stick of RAM, because that seemed to cause lockups in the way beginning of the Windows setup (where it is loading files such as Windows Executive, etc).  When I removed it and put another stick in, the windows installation would go fine.  But, that did not fix the issue with this motherboard.
I've had so many problems with the multiple K8N Neo Platinums I have purchased.  This is absolutely ridiculous  I'm extremely POed at MSI for  the widespread K8N series problems.  I am usually very tolerant to companies when they have problems with products because I understand that problems and glitches can easily occur in mass production and design.  It is virtually impossible to make a "perfect" product from the start.  But the lack of response and concern from MSI about this is ridiculous.  MSI did make an excellent motherboard here--if you can get a working one.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum and DTR

    Heya fellas,
I was wondering if anyone know whether or not the new MSI K8N Neo Platinum will have support for the AMD Athlon 3200+ DTR chip?  I know some boards have had trouble with them and I'm hoping that this one, since its a new reviision, will conflict with it.
    Thanks,

If that's the "Newcastle" version of the 3200+, it is supposed to work!

I just recently started buying parts, about a week ago, to upgrade my old AMD Athlon 2000+. Got all the new parts(listed above). Ive been having all sorts of problems. Ill list them to see what you guys think
1.) Whenever i start playing games or a graphicly intense program(ex: video editing, or 3D programs) or if i play a game and i do any sort of loading(ex: zoning, changing levels, loading player models etc.). My game either crashes to the desktop without errors, or my system will crash and drop to a bluescreen with the stop error "STOP: 0x0000007E". Or ill get a different blue screen saying "Dumping physical memory" or something can't read it cause it just appears then reboots my computer right away.
Or just recently i crashed to my desktop but got an error box saying "There are stability problems with the Geforce FX 5700LE please check if you have the correct drivers etc."
Then just the other night i was playing a game and crashed to the desktop but got a virtual memory error saying "Ran out of Virtural memory etc etc. Please check your Virtual memory page file". So i did and increased it a bit cause i saw it was set lower than the actual amount of ram i have.
I guess it's just 1 big problem but im just so confused about it. Been trying to troubleshoot it for about a week and about to give up. This monday is my last day to return things back to the store, would rather not cause ive heard such great things about AMD 64's and the Neo Platinum board.
Hope you guys got some ideas Im just about out of them heh.
    Thanks.

Don't know if you have tried this things but heres my list of things .

-First load bios optimized defaults , then ..
-Set the cpu vcore voltage up by + 0.025v (don't use auto)
-Increase the memory voltage vdimm to 2.7v (or the vendors max defined voltage)
    -Disable fsb spread spectrum
    -Disable dynamic overclocking
    -Disable cool n quiet
-Change the multiplier from startup to 11
-Turn off auto on memory timings in cell menu/dram and set all values manually
and the max mem frequency to 200.
    -Turn off AGP fatwrites
    CASE:
    USB connectors
-Disconnect case front usb from usb header on motherboard.
-Disconnect the d-bracket from usb header on motherboard.
-Change the red MSI ide cable if used.
-Check all stand offs/spacers under the motherboard .
-If using PS2 kb and mouse some board have mislabeled color code
making people connect mouse in kb and vice versa .
Correct is keyboard in the bottom mouse top.

  • K8N Neo Platinum driver installation

There are 4 downloadable mainboard driver zips at MSI for K8N Neo Platinum (not including BIOS a upgrade) -

    2. NF3_CK8S.zip - Chipset drivers including:
    Ethernet NRM driver
    Network management tools
    GART driver
SMBus driver with updated uninstaller files

Are ALL these drivers from MSI to be loaded?
I think I read in some other posts where some of these drivers (?) cause problems and therefore default Win OS (or chipset manufacturer) drivers should be used instead. Is there a concensus (or list) of which drivers should or shouldn't be installed and the correct procedures and order for doing it?

    1. NVSA020.zip, these drivers come in a diskete with your mainboard as well but possibly on an earlier version. You will need these if you plan to use a SATA Raid/ or simply a SATA drive when installing your OS of choice. Please note that if you plan to use a single SATA drive use SATA 3 or 4. In this case the drivers are not necessary but rather optional.
    2. These are the nforce platform drivers. You can either use the ones off the msi site or the ones from nvidia's site. In any case i would suggest you replace the IDE driver package with the 2.5's -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
    3. if you plan updating to a sp 1 or 2 versionof xp, you will probably not need these.

  • K8N Neo Platinum & Thermaltake Kandalf Tower

I just bought a Thermaltake Kandalf tower and put my K8n Neo Platinum Mobo in it but I am having troubles with wiring the top panel of the tower to the mobo.
The Kandalf has the two USB plugs but when I plug them into the mobo it cuts out the USB plugs on the D Bracket, I would like to have both running if possible.
Also, for the life of me I can't figure out how to connect the Front Panel Audio Connector : JAUD1 on the mobo to the Kandalf's audio panel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
