Good Powerbook G4 Adapter Replacement

The ol' G4 isn't the only Mac in the house, but I still love it for what I use it for.
Unfortunately, the adapter (pre-magsafe) no longer works.  Have tried the Macally, but it doesn't seem to seat correctly sometimes, there's no glowing to indicate status, and I only know it's not seated properly if I keep my eye on the battery indicator on top of the screen.
Does anyone have any good recommendations?
Thanks!

OWC has a a charger with a 3 year warranty here.  While we havent used that charger, the other OWC branded products we've gotten have worked well.

  • Powerbook power adapter

    Hi!
Does the powerbook power adapter help to block the fluctuating power. I mean will it work as a surge protector? Or is it good to use a surge protector before the G4 laptop power adapter.
    Thanks!

Surge protectors, while working to maintain a constant voltage, can absorb an electrical spike to a certain degree, then snap, disconnecting the electrical input when it exceeds certain parameters - sort of an intelligent fuse. And you can typically reset the surge protector. That's how it differs from the PowerBook ac/dc power adaptor. Here, the adapter can absorb some fluctuation, however, it may pass that on to the PB, and should it snap then it's time for a new power adapter, if not more!

  • Apple's Adapter Replacement Program

    Hello,
Im having trouble with my charger works sometimes and sometimes does not. I saw this article about Apple's Adapter Replacement Program (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4127).
I have an L type charger and bought my MBP in 2010. Am I eligible for this replacement?
    Thanks

    It's pretty clear here:

Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.

  • Apple's power adapter replacement program - U.S. only

    Hello,
    I have a macbook air.
Its power adapter has a L-shape, but I have the same problem because of strain relief.
I found that Apple's power adapter replacement program page on web, About Apple's Power Adapter Replacement Program -- U.S. only.
I think that the T-shape photo on web is just an example showing what strain relief.
When I visit the apple retail store and ask the program, they answered me that program is only available for T-shape power adapter.
is it correct? do I need to buy additional power adapter for my air?
    Thank you,

    Yes, that is correct.

A good DTP package to replace LibraOffice?

The installation or lack there off of Libre Office should have no effect on the files previously created with it.
That fact that its not correctly installed means files saved in Libre Office's native formats are simply not able to be opened correctly with anything else. In other word you need Libre Office to open Libre Office formatted documents.
Once you manage to install Libre office correctly,  and open your files in Libre Office I'm sure your files will be o.k.
For best compatibility with other Office products, I suggest saving your files in Microsoft Office formats rather than Libre Office's native formats.
As has been said by others, Libre Office remains the bets free alternative to paid Office products.

  • Asking for power adapter replacement

How to order for replacement of power adapter for my WRT160N router?
    From forum thread
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20899
I can order a replacement of my supplied power adapter (MU06-6120050-C5)  with a new one (PS-WRT160N-V3.2-E) because my original one must be connected first to the power outlet before being connected to the router. That conditiongave me a problembecause everytime I have power failure, I need to manually disconnect my router and then reconnect it to the power adapter, otherwise my router won't function.
So, how is the process to order for power adapter replacement?

I think you need to contact linksys to get the replacement.

  • Had Power Adapter replaced, battery icon not showing charge

Hello, hoping you guys can help me out. Recently, my power adapter had burned out (wouldn't show charge/light up at all). I've had it replaced as of today and is working fine (Whoo!), but now a new problem's come up.
I admit I used my battery to it's limit while waiting for the new adapter, and while the light on the adapter is green, the battery icon on my screen is showing 0%. Pressing the button on the battery only gives me one green light.
I've heard something about Re-Calibrating the battery in my manual, but I'm unsure if that's the best course for my case. Here's my Power System Profile, if it helps:

Re-calibrating the battery is typically done with a new battery, where you charge it all the way up, then run it all the way down a couple of times. This calibrates the battery's internal electronics to the actual capacity of the battery. Not a concern here.
Looking at your battery stats, is your battery fairly new? It is showing 56 charge/discharge cycles, does that sound about right? Reason for asking is, if the battery is old, like maybe the original battery that came with the system, sometimes a dying lithium battery throws up screwy stats. If it is an older battery, that may be why it's not charging ... it's dead. However, if it is a newer battery ....
There's only 4 components to the charging circuit - power adapter, dc-in card, battery, and logic board. You have a new power adapter, and the system is seeing the 65 watt power adapter, so the power adapter and dc-in card appear to be OK. That leaves either a battery issue or a logic board issue. Do you have another battery you can swap in, or a friend with the same model PowerBook, or an Apple store nearby? If you swap another battery in, and it starts charging, and the current batter is an older one, then replace the battery. I used this one on mine, and others have had good things to say about it: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/powerbook/battery/g4-15inch-aluminum/ . I would stay away from batteries sold on ebay, as there have been a number of people very disappointed with the lack of quality in the battery they bought.
If another battery won't charge, that would point to a logic board issue. We just had that on one of our PowerBooks, where it would charge, and it wasn't a power adapter, dc-in, or battery problem. The Apple store sent it off to the Apple Depot, for around $350, and they replaced the logic board as well as the battery. If they do more work, like replacing a dented case, the price goes up. If the Apple store replaces the logic board in the store, it costs around $750 or more.

  • AC adapter replacement program for M4402

Hi everone, me again. Miss me?
Given that my Pismo works absolutely fine now, the reason I am posting relating to the power pack is an obscure one. I recently stumbled across a page in the PowerBook G3 support area about replacing the M4402 power adaptors for G3 'Books. And I have just that adaptor.
    The article:
    http://depot.info.apple.com/exchange/
details that the M4402 packs, with two-prong power connectors, carry a danger of overheating. This would make my adaptor a candidate for replacement; it's a 1998 adaptor, and the article applies to PowerBooks manufactured between 1998 and March 2000.
However, I've discovered that my PowerBook was purchased on the 8th of March 2000, which puts it's manufacture dte at roughly 4th March (these things sold quickly!). The AC adaptor is most likely older than the laptop, but it's not being accepted as a replaceable item. Surely if there's a risk of the adaptor leaving a burn mark in my carpet or on my desk, then that risk should be removed? There've been six reported cases of just this happening.
Any input into this would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob Johnson

    Hi cornelius,
Glad we got the age brackets sorted (ha ha). Well, the good news is that the yo-yo arrived today. The bad news? The IDIOTS (I use the term accurately) at Apple have sent me one with a TWO-PRONG POWER CABLE and I'm in the flippin' UK! I spend some considerable time arguing with technicians, and they send the wrong cable!
Fortunately for them, they sent the right yo-yo, and it works - I am, at least, graced by the presence of a ThinkPad T23 that uses the same clove-leaf power cable. But, now what do I do? It's been suggested that I cut the two-prong off and fit a UK plug, but that spoils the effect. The jiffy bag bears the 'Netherlands' address, which is a little strange to say the least.
So, what do I do now? Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks to everyone who posted,
    Rob Johnson

I need a replacement for my G4 Powerbook power supply. My currrent one (over 2.5 years old) has a 'short' in it. Can anyone recommend where I can find either resonably priced:
    1) A factory 'Apple' powersupply exatly like the one I have or
    2) A '3rd party' powersupply.
    Thanks!

Not cheap - but i have a kensington adapter that includes connectors for AC, Car DC, and airplane power sockets.

  • Powerbook AC adapter recall not available to Thailand?

    Hello,
I have gone to this website for the Ac adapter recall for my powerbook http://depot.info.apple.com/exchange/ . I have put in the serial number on my adapter and it does qualify for the recall but as soon as i click "Thailand" for my country i get this message:
    "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /support/supportnumbers.html on this server.
    Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.asia.apple.com Port 80"
I am a Canadian living in Thailand and i don't understand why this would disqualify me for the recall. I have sent messages to .Mac asking them to give me the email address of someone that can help me sort this out, and they have been less than helpful and outright refuse. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Blake

Well just as i figured, the Thai Apple "service" line was less than helpful. I don't think she understood all that well, and she kept giving me the easy "thai" answer of no, not available anymore. I explained that the webpage doesn't say that, and I see other people on this website that 'have' done it lately. No real response to that of course. I asked her for her email so i could get it in writing make sure everyone/everything is understood. So i emailed her about it, nicely of course, and she never gave me any response.
I also got a survey from apple about my original emails asking for some help since their website gives me errors after chosing Thailand as my address. I filled out the survey stating how disappointed I am with the total lack of service. At the end it asks me what i think an acceptable amount of time would be for apple to get back to me. I chose 3 days. Again, I got absolutely no response. I will obviously be buying another computer in the near future since i have this old Lombard, but i am wondering wheather i will stay with apple since they have proven to have bad/no service. The only place i can get any help is this website. And here I have been able to get very good help!
So how can I escalate this issue to actually get somewhere?

Can anyone recommend a good place to send a powerbook out to have a HD replaced ?

You will need to provide more information in order for people to help you.
Has your drive failed, or do you want to upgrade it?
If the drive has failed, and your PowerBook is either still under the original Apple warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan, then Apple will replace the drive.
If you want to upgrade the drive to a faster or more capacious model, and you either don't want to invalidate the warranty or don't wish to do the job yourself, then you can get a local Apple Authorised Service Provider to carry out the job for a fee. As to which AASP to recommend - I cannot do that as I don't know where you are located.

  • 45w or 65w for 17" powerbook power adapter?

My power adapter is frayed and sparking and i am about to buy a replacement. In researching the recommended wattage, i found that 65w is standard for the 17" PB. However, the current adapter i have (the one that came with my PB) is 45watts. Why? I don't know. should i buy a 65w or 45w?
    thanks guys!
    Powerbook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   the 1st generation of 17"

65 Watt should be the correct one (verified at my own 17" G4 PB).
Have you bought the computer new or was it a refurbished model ? All I can imagine that there were PowerBooks with a 45 Watt adapter sold by Apple, but I can't imagine the reason.
Anyway, the 65 Watt adapter will work and should not hurt the computer (just ensure that voltage and current are matching if you buy an universal adapter).

  • What's a good 3rd party iPhoto replacement?

I have a large number of slideshows which I’ve made with iPhoto 7.1.5 to which I have applied carefully-adjusted effects settings and music for each slide. They are as perfect as I can get them for my usage. I have tried both importing as well as totally re-doing some of  them from scratch in iPhoto 9.1.3 with no success. My settings will not stick in 9.1.3 (yes I have looked at all the other posts and tried the fixes offered in this forum but to no avail) and I do not like the theme based format at all. I like full screen slides with ONLY the settings and syncronization that I have applied to each slide, all of which has worked perfectly for me in 7.1.5.
My great fear is that although my present iMac has and is working perfectly, one day I will have to replace it and whatever new one I get might most likely not run iPhoto 7.1.5 so all of my work could be lost.
I am prepared to drop iPhoto usage altogether and work with a good third party application that will allow me to individually set my slides as I want them set without forcing me to use some theme or other (as the new iPhoto and some third party apps seem to do) and to which I can perfectly synchronize music to the flow of the slides just like I’m able to do in 7.1.5.
My question then is what would be a good third party application for this purpose? Again I am perfectly willing to redo all of the shows from scratch in that new app if it will work the way I’ve described.
Thanks to all for reading this lengthy post  :-)
    Rick

    Hello Steven,
As promised I’m letting you know my decision on replacing iPhoto with Aperture for making slideshows. I’m going with Aperture. As a test I imported the iPhoto 7.1.5 pictures from two of my longest and most complex slideshows (no problem at all with that) so as to give Aperture a good tryout. Using the “Classic” mode when choosing themes (actually no theme at all) I was able to very easily rebuild the two shows I was testing. In those two shows each slide is individually timed to the phrases and tempo of the musical background, no easy task in iPhoto 7 but a cinch in Aperture. I noticed a close resemblance to iPhoto 11 ( the newest version) in setting those individual slides, but with Aperture all of the settings I made actually stuck!  That was my main frustration with the newest iPhoto and was the reason I was looking for a replacement in the first place.
All of the effects used for each individual slide were also easy to redo. So the remaking of slideshows from iPhoto is not at all difficult; that is once you’ve figured out the way things are done in Aperture. That took a little time and was occasionally frustrating. I found that just quitting for awhile and resuming the job later was very helpful but once learned, it’s just fine. There is a downloadable PDF manual, which is more or less helpful, but digging in and getting to work on a project is still the best way to learn the application . . . for me, that is ;-)
Although I use Photoshop Elements for processing my shots before using them in slideshows I found that it’s really handy to use Aperture’s many photo retouching tools on the fly when building slideshows. Something that is very limited in iPhoto. It’s possible that some people may find that those built-in tools are all they need for spiffing up their photos with no need for other applications for that purpose. In my case, I’ll stick with PE for that if for no other reason than that I’m used to using it (and also already have it :-) ).
There are lots of other features available in Aperture that I haven’t yet checked out but that will be something for me to play with later once I get all my slideshows transferred over.
For TD, thanks again for the tip on PhotoToMovie. I gave it a try also but found that it played havoc with the quality of my photos. Once I saw that, I stopped checking it out. Too bad since it is about a quarter of the price of Aperture.

  • WSRM Adapter replaced with soap in PO7.4. Getting error "Response message contains an errorXIAdapter/HTTP/ADAPTER.HTTP_EXCEPTION - HTTP 500 Internal Server Error"

    Hello All,
We have scenario proxy->pi->webservice. In older versions of PI system they used wsrm adapter at receiver side and it's working fine.
Receiver interface is asynchronous. So no response structute is present and receiver service is business component(since receiver is a third party).
During migration, we have replaced the receiver adapter with SOAP adapter and used message protocol as SOAP 1.1 but the message is failing and in communication channel it is showing error "Response message contains an errorXIAdapter/HTTP/ADAPTER.HTTP_EXCEPTION - HTTP 500 Internal Server Error". In this case the receiver interface is stateless xi 3.0 compatible(re using the old), after changing it to just stateless also issue persists.
In target url field if i prefix the url with "http" then above mentioned error is occurring otherwise if i use the hostname:port/path.. then it is giving error
"soap: Call failed: com.sap.aii.af.sdk.xi.srt.BubbleException: Unsupported protocol". So maintaing the url as http://hostname:port/pat.....
As in old channel wsrm channel there is no userid and password, i haven't given any userid/pwd in receiver channel.
used the bean sap.com/com.sap.aii.af.soapadapter/XISOAPAdapterBean with  parameters
    Module Key  =  soap
      Parameter Name  =  noSOAPMakeSysErrFromResponseFault
    Parameter Value  =  false
    and
    xmbws.No SOAPIgnoreStatus = true
    but not successful.
Please help me. I got stcuk here.

    Hello Jannus,
The connectivity is working fine. Network team has confirmed it. I doubt that any strucutre(header) difference might be present in message when sending with wsrm adapter compared to sending with soap adapter.
Please let me know the exact difference between soap and wsrm functionality in receiving end.
By considering the structure issue, i have checked the "do not use soap envelope" check box, then i got error "Response message contains an errorXIAdapter/HTTP/ADAPTER.HTTP_EXCEPTION - HTTP 415 Unsupported Media Type"
Then i used message transform bean, but not successful.
    Regards,
    Ch.Venkat.
