Good quality, inexpensive keyboard to use with Logic

Hey everyone,
I'm a guitarist, but have more and more been utilizing my MIDI keyboard for synth/piano parts in my music. The MIDI keyboard is getting becoming a little small for my required use and I was wondering if anyone had advice on what keyboard to get to upgrade my setup. I mainly will just be using Logic's instruments, so I don't reqire much in terms of sounds that come with the actual keyboard, as I'm happy with what Logic offers.
Thanks for any advice.

as a guitarist you can't go wrong with a line 6 KB37.
Ok, it's a smallish keyboard, but with 2 mic (and ph power) inputs, and a 1/4 " guitar input, plus loads of software amps/fx from the pod range it's hard to beat for the price.
The real thing that's makes it a no brainer though is zero-latency monitoring, it's the mutts nuts.
Plus excellent support, regular software downloads/upgrades and add on packs if you need them.
Mine never crashed or hung once, unlike the piece of cack M-Audio Ozone I had before.
Best

  • Keyboard to use with Logic???

My boss wants a digital keyboard/piano to use with Logic and GarageBand.
He's looking for one with a screen that will show him the chord he's hit, but doesn't want one with a lot of extra buttons. He wants a piano with a digital screen. As simple as possible.
If there isn't one that fits that description, he'd like a simple keyboard with no screen that will plug into his PowerBook G4 to use with Logic and GarageBand.
    Any help?
    Thanks!!!

  • What is a good drumpad ipad app to use with Logic?

Is it possible to use a drumpad ipad app with Logic to create drumtracks? And if so, which app would be good for this?

I use the OWC, http://www.macsales.com Mercury Elite Pro external drives but they may seem large to use as portable drives.
My daughter has a very small 2 TB Western Digital My Passport for Mac that she has been using for a lot of travel and works great.

  • What is the best external typing keyboard for use with logic studio?

I'm currently using Logic 7 and looking to upgrade to Logic STUDIO.
I want to get a nice typing keyboard with coloured and customised keys (short-cuts) to use in place of the MACBOOK keyboard.
I have previously bought the stickers from Editors keys, but there key command sets suck.
Hoping someone can suggest a better company offering a better product with more intuitive key command settings so that it matches well with LOGIC STUDIO - assuming its been simplifed with its work flow, I want a typing keyboard to match.
Also is it worth gettinga jog wheel to use in place of or in addition to a mouse - I think this is called a shuttle.
Anyway please send your suggestions through.
    Thanks

I believe that there are keyboard overlays for Logic available for the Apple Keyboards... although, I don't think there's anything for 8 yet, seeing as the release probably took them by surprise.
However, I do agree that using a wireless keyboard and mighty mouse are must-haves... at least in my studio. They allow me to work at my piano and control Logic from a distance (I don't like assigning MIDI commands, outside of my control surface). However, I do with that Logic would recognize the presence of a Mighty Mouse and allow assigning the remaining button presses to other features in Logic, like showing the floating toolbox while the right-click handles the contextual menus.

  • Which is the best MIDI interface to use with Logic 7 ?

    Hi folks :o)
Firstly, thanks all for any advice you can give. I'm a pro user, but right in the middle of a major upgrade (G4/OS9/CubaseVST32 >> G5/OSX/CubaseSX3/Logic7) & feel a huge learning curve coming on!
    The situation is this:
I have a Steinberg Midex 8 midi interface, plus a MOTU MTPav in the cupboard. The Midex took place of the MTPav because it had much better midi timing under OS9 with Cubase... The Midex8 drivers for OSX, however, are still beta & a pile of rubbish. (It keeps losing communication with the G5.) I'm fed up with how bad Steinberg have been sorting (not!) these problems out (not to mention the fact that Cubase SX3 can't recognise my 'studio' created in Audio Midi Setup either.. arghh!), so I'm considering jumping ship & going entirely to Logic in one hit, plus whichever is the best midi-interface for this software & OSX.
As food for thought, I'm currently thinking of tracking down a 'Unitor 8', having made the (perhaps wrong) assumption that it'd work 'best' with Logic seeing as it was made by Emagic. BUT, despite a lengthy search in Logic 7's manuals & this forum, I can't find any mention of Emagic's 'Active Midi Transmission' protocol & whether or not Logic 7 supports it; AMT is the only reason I'd buy the Unitor. (I've got all the other bases covered with the MTPav.) I'm also concerned about the long-term support issues regarding drivers for the Unitor 8 & OSX; ****, I'm having enough problems with Steinberg & their Midex 8 (which is still a current product in theory!) without throwing Emagic & a midi interface that's no longer manufactured into the pot...
So..... What do you folks feel is the best midi interface to use with Logic 7 as regards tight midi timing & system reliability? Can anyone out there with a big midi setup categorically say "I've got one (or more) of these MIDI interfaces, it works beautifully under OSX & Logic 7, & the MIDI timing is rock-solid, even when put under heavy midi 'duress' " ??
Many thanks again in advance for any feedback!
Your new Logic Pro virgin ;o)
    Jason

Thanks for your reply folks. It's good to hear a number of you are having good results with your MTPav - I guess I'll pull mine out of the cupboard in that case!
As an aside, it's been interesting to note how difficult it's been to get a clear answer from companies (be it shops or Apple) as to whether or not Logic 7 supports 'Active Midi Transmission' on the old Unitor 8 MkII..... (The reference manual has one mention of it in the index, yet points to a page that doesn't say anything about AMT at all!)
If anyone here DOES have a clear answer about AMT with Logic 7, I'd be very interested to hear about it... thanks.
    Kind regards,
    JC

  • What's the best controller keyboard to run with Logic Express?

I am a composer of mostly acoustic/classical music and was wondering about best user friendly controller keyboard for Logic Express. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am not a rocket scientist when it comes to working with connections, so I need something real easy in a 61 or 76 key synthesizer/controller. jack

Cant really answer thatqestion in terms of the "best to use" with logic express, however, im in the opposite postion as you in the sense that im using logic with a motif 6 and want to sell it, and just get a controller. I produce hip hop, and have always prefered the sounds in the triton to the ones in the motif.....fo waht im using it for at least.

  • Best drum loops for use with Logic? Ease of use, usability, etc.

    Hi,
I have BFD2 but find it slow to load and sometimes clumsy auditioning loops within Logic. I love the Apple Loops library but I wondered if people are importing MIDI drum files for use with Logic. Do all drum files use the same MIDI mapping? If I drop a BFD2 loop into a Logic drum virtual instrument will it work? I bought a few packs from Groove Monkee but have yet to use them with Logic. I only use them within BFD2.
I'm basically looking for a seamless way to stay within Logic to improve my workflow. It's taken me days sometimes to get a drum track right by going back and forth with BFD2. Is there a concept I'm missing that would make it easier?
    Thanks

  • What is a good external hard drive for use with a macbook air?

I am looking at purchasing a macbook air 13". What is a good external hard drive to use with it? Should I look for an external hard drive with its own a/c power or is the usb 3.0 capable of powering the external drive.

Have a look here for the sizes and prices.
It is however, much better to get a USB external drive that comes with it's own power adapter to avoid issues when or if your USB port can't supply enough power to your external drive.
That issue however does happen rarely but it does happen.  Especially when connecting other devices to your other USB port while your external hard drive is connected to your other usb port.

  • Does anyone know a good wired lapel mic to use with a MacBook?

Does anyone know a good wired lapel mic to use with a MacBook?

Tutorials? None that I know of. This is in the realm of online editors and machine room operators...dub facilities. They don't have tutorials online. They do hands on or read manuals.

  • Can anyone recommend a backlit keyboard to use with the Macbook Pro?

I like to hook my laptop up to a larger monitor and work that way while at home with an external keyboard hooked up by usb. I am using an older mac keyboard but its hard to see the keys if the room is not well lit. Can someone recommend a backlit external keyboard to use with the macbook pro that has a number pad? This seems really hard to find for some reason... Thanks!

Logitech makes a USB-powered backlit keyboard but it is for Windows PCs. You should check its Web site to see if it has a similar one for Macs.

  • Slightly OT: Good affordable color laser for use with Mac?

I know this is Off Topic, but I estmated that I would find the most knowledgable people in this community of people using Pages to produce nice documents.
I want to buy an affordable color laser printer for light use but with good print quality. I have been looking around but I can't find much information on how well it works with the Mac. For instance, my old HP inkjet is a priter-scanner bought from Apple, but it turns out scanning only works when wired, not via WiFi.
But my main concern is affordable (around $200-$400) and color and laser (as I don't like the quality of affordable inkjet when producing text).
    What are good options? Thanks.

I use a Brother HL-4040CDN. This particular model is not wireless but I connect it to my network via ethernet. Before this one, I did have one that was wireless but I never could figure out how to get it recognized. You can use a wireless bridge to make it wireless. I have done that in the past using an AirPort Express. I usually buy generic high-capacity toner refills & have not had a problem.
I would also look a Canon. They didn't have a consumer-level color laser printer, only all-in-one, at the time I bought my Brothers, but they might now.
EDIT: Canon does have one for $499. Amazon.com does have it for a much better price.

  • Need a light 88 note keyboard to use with Mainstage for gigs?

Anyone got any ideas? I just bought a MPK88 Akai ...It weighs more than my bath! its a nice keyboard but too heavy if your gigging ...Anyone using a plastic affair that they would recommend? ....thanks Lou

I've got one of these. Yep, it's 88 keys, and light. That's its forte. That's it. So sliders or knobs to do anything useful with within MainStage. Oh yeah, if you plug in a volume pedal, it sends controller #7 instead of controller #11, which is the usual... no prob, when starting up, press a couple of keys and you're good to go. The band I play with decided to part ways with the sax guy, so I'll actually probably add another one of these so that I'll have 3 controllers during gigs. So, what's the other controller then? An M-Audio KeyStation Pro... Also 88 keys, action ***** too, but in a different kind of way. It's heavy, and like the 88ES, has no aftertouch by the way...
I don't actually think there's an alternative out there at this price point that's 88 keys... Maybe a blowout Yamaha KX8???? supposedly a better feel, though the pitch and mod wheels sit "above" the keys instead of "left of.."
    good luck on this

  • Can Logic Pro 7 Plugins be used with Logic Express

Hello, does anyone know if you can use the instrument plugins in Logic Pro 7 with Logic Express.

The cool advanced features that are part of Logic Pro are embedded in the application and can't be used as plug-ins on other systems such as Express. For good reason, eh?
