GOOD ROUTER FOR MACBOOOK?

Hi everyone, I purchased a Belkin "N-MIMO" Wireless Router the other day, and everything seemed to be working fine. Internet was speedy and had no connecting problems. However, I had problems with iChat & AIM. Another fellow apple user recommended me swapping out the Belkin.
Any suggestions on what Routers are best for my MacBook?

I use my macbook on a network with other PCs and wireless print servers at home, where the main router is a Linksys WRT-54GS. The Linksys isn't N mode, but still seems plenty fast for waht I want to do (typically a few megabits per second throughput to the macbook). The coverage pattern from the Linksys seems pretty good, given it has a nice pair of dipole antennas.
The sateful firewall in the Linksys is pretty good and doesn't have tracking ports properly for most all applications. In particular PPTP pass through works just fine for those who need to do VPN work.
I also have an Airport Extreme Base Station. While it is N mode and A/B/G, and theoretically more powerful 20 dBm radio, I still like me old Linksys better. I've had problems getting PPTP to pass through the ABES when NAT is enabled to support multiple PCs sharing the Internet connection. The other disadvantage is the ABES has to be configured using Apple's Airport utility, instead of having a built-in web interface.
The Linksys design has been around for a while, so it has been very well debuged. Linksys changed from a Linux based open source firware to a VX-Works proprietary based firmware on the WRT-54GS about a year ago.

Yes. However,  if you have the budget, I recommend this. This is one of Linksys Smart Wifi Routers. This is one of the latest routers from Linksys.

  • Good Wireless Router for iMac

I just ordered my first Mac, an 20" iMac G5. Now I need a good wireless router for it. I looked at the Airport Extreme Base Station, but it sure is pricey. Any suggestions on some more reasonably priced wireless routers? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Clayton,
Although a bit pricey, the next router I buy will be the "AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes". It is a full featured router that is certainly compatable with any other AirPort equiped Mac -- including WPA excryption. That router has the added Apple AirTunes feature that you will not find on any other router.
If you want to go the cheaper route (no pun intended) then I have had good luck setting up friends with several different models of both DLink and Linksys routers including my current DLink DI-624. I have had nothing but success connecting several Apple PowerBooks with old and new versions of AirPort cards to several different makes/models of these routers and can't say I have ever had difficulties.
One thing to watch when using WPA is that you choose exactly the same settings on both the Mac and the router such as "WPA-Personal" using "TKIP". Note that some routers such as Linksys may call the same settings "WPA-PSK" and preselect "AES" instead of "TKIP". As long as all of your protocols match and your network name and preshared key match then everything should work as expected.
Also, when choosing a model don't be fooled into paying for any of the "Xtreme", "Speedbooster", "SRX", "pre-n", or "MIMO" routers. Unless you have special needs the vast majority of home users simply need a basic 802.11g router.
The one last bit of advice I have is to NOT install the software that comes with home wireless routers (except for Apples'). Instead, simply use your web browser to connect to the routers IP address (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) and then use the built-in web configuration to make all needed settings including the minimum: 1) changing default password, 2) turn off SSID broadcast, 3) set up wireless network name and WPA encryption, and 4) turn on NAT firewall.
    Best of luck,
    Tim

  • Good GigE switch/router for not much coin?

Last piece of the puzzle: with three systems now, I want to up the ante a bit on my networking capability. Presently, my laptop connects via 802.11g (snore) through a combo DSL modem/hub/WAP, and the workstations connect via 100Mb Ethernet through the same. File transfers are painfully slow. Since all three systems have GigE connections, I'd like to utilize them to speed things up a bit. Any good suggestions for a basic router, hub, switch or whatever to connect these guys? Doesn't need to be anything fancy...

    Colin,
This is a simple swith that I use: Netgear GS608 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch. Look here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122111&Tpk=netgear%20gs108
I also have a HP 8 port managed switch, the Procurve 6108, but that is an altogether different price bracket.
For a router is use a DrayTek Vigor 2820Vn Annex B. See: http://www.draytek.com/user/PdInfoDetail.php?Id=19

  • Please make this a good experiance for my first post on any board.  READ ME

Hi all. Well first off, let me start by saying that my whole life I've owned PC's. And I'm not hacker Elliet. But I've gotten to know them pretty well. All the way from Windows 3.1 that came out a long time ago (more than 10 years ago)
So after a while of hearing about MAC's I decided to start small and get an iPod (since they are so popular here in NYC) and see what apple was about. Well I really saw that Apple had a great product and started asking about their computers. And did plenty of research. And before the new Intel Macs came out, I was going to get a powerbook. But I had a feeling a new laptop was coming out and waited a lil while and sure enough. The Macbook Pro came out. So I went out and did all my research (as to this being the first real purchase of a Apple product and knew about the possible implications of a new first gen Intel chip in a apple product litterally making history) I knew I might become a new beta tester.
So I started looking on these boards and did 2 weeks worth of hard research to see if the Mac Book Pro (MBP) was for me. And after all the problems i saw (ex: The whine, Right speaker distortion, heat coming from it, white line at bottom of screen, etc) I never saw or read anything about AOL connectivity problems. And I know, I know... alot of you are probably going to gripe and complain about AOL sucking and yada yada yada, but please. Cut me some slack. I actually like AOL. I got on it back in 92 when it came out, and really enjoyed it. And have been on it since. I like chatting on there, and so forth. And I hope you help with my problem instead of telling me to go get "a real ISP" I do have a real ISP, but I like my AOL too.
    So now to my problem....
I have a Sony Viao 1.8ghz PC with 512 ram, 80 gig hard drive, 10/100 ethernet port. Connected to a Belkin Router (more info below on specs of router) connected to Opt Online Broadband Cable internet with VoIP. I use my macbook pro on the wireless network at my home.
I got a mac book pro 1.83 ghz running 512 ram on Tiger OSX 10.4.6 I thought that I would wait till a connectivity patch (which I thought would have been 10.4.6) fix the airport problems came out till I posted something. But now that I've tried everything, I'm hoping you open this thread and help me and possibly someone else out there as well. I just d/l'd and installed the 10.4.6 update last night and it did'nt help. So here's more info on my specs. I have a belkin router wireless G 2.4 ghz 54mbs router and I have configured the router with it's firewall, wap2 encryption (as it's the only selection the router has that is available that matches what airport comes with in encryption) I hid my network, and have tried to upgrade the firmware on the router.
Now Here's the real problem. I can connect to AOL on my MBP when I connect the actual ethernet cable to the MBP's Ethernet port (after I have let the cable modem do a hard reset to configure itself to a mac) I can connect to AOL. But when I disconnect the cable and return it to it's normal config, I can't connect to AOL. I can connect to the internet via safari, and firefox, and even AOL's IM on iChat. I can use Itunes all kinds of things. I can even play warcraft 3 wirelessly on battlenet. But connecting to AOL is a pain in the @$$. It's the only proggy I have that won't allow it to connect. I keep getting the error message "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." Of course All i see for a while is the spinning black and white circle. And it goes through step 1 and 2, goes straight to 6. Then it goes blank, and BAM! That message pops up. And what's so frustrating is that I've tried every possible configuration on AOL, my router and even system preferences, for it to let connect. I even went into system preferences on the mac and went down the the Internet & Network "Sharing" icon and tried 100 possible combinations on that in the services tab, and firewall tab. I've turned them on, off, tried to make exceptions ETC. And no matter how much I play with the personal file sharing and windows sharing advanced settings and sigh every possible combination to make AOL connect via wirelessly. And nothing. I then even tried to fix the connection under AOL in setup. I've gone through and selected TCP Script, Airport Script. Cable Script, And practically every script I can think of. And nothing. I even went on to AOL and downloaded thier alleged fix to wireless accessing AOL. And nothing. I've been searching all over google, AOL's website, and all over these discussion boards and no mention of anyone even having the same problem. But please, someone out there with their infinit knowledge of how Macs run and having more experience than me, Please make this a good experiance for my first post on any board anywhere reguarding a mac. A MBP at that too.
An update to this, But amazingly enough, I actually got it to connect to AOL wirelessly for the first time yest. But I have no Idea how i did it. I tried for 3 hours to reproduce it and no luck. I was accessing my router at it's website config screen and somehow I clicked on connect to AOL and while it was trying to connect to it, i reset the router and BAM, it connected to AOL. And I was in shock. I thought I solved it. Somewhere while it was reseting the router it connected and stayed connected to AOL till I signed off and tried to sign back on to see if I could now connect, and guess what. The same dumb message keeps popping up "Your AOL connection ended because the AOL host was unable to start a new session. Please try to sign on again." And all I did was sign off to test it, thinking I had fixed the problem. I tried for 3 hours like I stated above, and BAM got it connected to AOL wirelessly again (somehow while the router was resetting). And thinking I fixed it, or figured out the trick to getting it to work, signed off... I kissed aol goodbye again. And have been unable to reproduce the "glitch". SIGH Can someone out there please help me?
I think I've made this message as detailed as possible, but please, can someone give me some constructive criticism on how to fix my AOL wireless connectivity problems. Do you know if it's my router? My MBP? AOL software? BTW, I got AOL software version 10.3.7 (Rev 4136.310 US) The latest version I D/L'ed from the AOL website. Anyone know If I should turn on or off some things such as personal fire sharing on, or firewall off or on? ANYTHING. Please. I've put alot of time into writing this post and making it as detailed as possible. And been having this problem for the past 3 weeks that I've had my MBP, and have waited long enough to use my AOL. If you need any further information or suggestions on making AOL work, please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I really appreciate all of you in the time you take in responding back in trying to help me. I'll be monitoring this post almost hourly. So I hope someone out there can help. Thanks so much again. And help me make this transition to Mac a pleasant one knowing that there is a mac community out there willing to help a new mac client. Again, Many thanks
    In Heath and Wealth,
    Bruce
Mac Book Pro 1.83 GHZ 512 Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    I FIXED IT!
FYI for the rest of you that might be having the same problem. DON'T USE A BELKIN ROUTER WITH AOL ON A MBP!!!!! It ***** wirelessly. or even hard connected, it won't connect. I went to best buy today, and got a refund on the belkin. I then went to J&R and got a D-Link router. And now it works perfect. I can now chat on AOL yet again, and I tried all the other web browsers I have and messengers, and warcraft 3 online via battlenet. And it works great. I want to give you guys a special thanks for taking time out to answer back to my post. FYI! Belkin wireless G routers do not connect you to AOL wirelessly on MBP's. No matter how much you mess around on them. I highly recommend a D-Link Router. They are easy to set up as long as you READ ( AND I MEAN IT!!!) read the instructions before you set anything up on it. Use the CD that it comes with, and you'll be good to go. Set it up and it works great Almost no dead zones in the house, and now I can use the MBP with all it's cababilities. Thanks people. I really appreciate it.
P.S. I called belkin last night when i decided to get a refund on my router for today and when i talked to the tech, after puersuading him to tell me the truth. And stop BS'ing me, he broke down and admited that AOL does not work wirelessly on MBP's. So to make a long story short this time, There you go. And one last note, I'm very happy now with my d-link router. I honestly thought it would suck. Not being a brand name router or anything. But amazingly, it works like a brand name item! Again, many thanks all.

  • Message no. RU 195:Automatic goods receipt for order 619271463 is not possi

    dear expert:
when i confirm the production order via co15  ,sytstm prompt :
Automatic goods receipt for order 619271463 is not possible
    Message no. RU 195
    Diagnosis
Order 619271463 contains several operations, which have a control key which indicates "automatic goods receipt".
However, an automatic goods receipt is only allowed once per order for the following reason:
If the automatic goods receipt is posted more than once, this would lead to incorrect stock quantities.
    Procedure
Check the control keys of the operations in order 619271463. Change the control keys in such a way, that an automatic goods receipt occurs for one operation only.
production order is confirmed  but it cann't be delivered automatically.
    help me analyse it .
    best reagards.

    Hi,
In normal scenario in a production order each routing operation will consist a control key with settings for automatic goods reciept.
So in a production order you can use only one control key with automatyic goods recipt. This will be the last operation of the order. From message mentioned by you it is showing as may u have mentioned auto goods reciept for more than one operation.
PP01 is normal confirmation control key & PP99 is for milestone with auto goods reciept. PP95 - w/o milestone with auto GR.
Please check control key & correct it.
    Hope this will help you.

    Ashish

  • Which is better for Branch Office Cisco ASA or Cisco 1900 router for Branch Office?

Which is a better solution ?
Using ASA55XX or 1900 series router for WAN and Internet access for 25 - 100 users?

Without knowing more about the environment and what the real requirements are, it is difficult to give a really good answer. If your main concern is effective stateful inspection of traffic entering and leaving the site then the ASA is optimized for that. If you want redundancy (active/active or active/standby) then the ASA is better for this. There are other potential requirements which may make the router the better choice:
    - what is the connection to the Internet? If it is Ethernet then either ASA or router will do fine. But if it is something other than Ethernet then you may need the router.
    - is there a need for services such as Policy Based Routing? These are available on the router and not on the ASA.
    - is there a need for load balancing on outbound traffic? This is available on the router and not on the ASA.
    - will there be a need to do routing on the inside network? The range of available options is wider on the router than on the ASA.
    - is there a need to run a routing protocol with the Internet provider? The usual choice for this is BGP and that is available on router and not on ASA.
So consider these criteria as you make your choice. Or provide more detail about your environment and what your real requirements are and we may be able to give better advice.

  • What is the best Router for Gaming?

Alright, at the moment I have a "G" wireless router, which I bought it for pure gaming reasons, well I am thinking about upgrading 'cause I am having some lag and poor connections and I want to enhance my connection for online play.  I won't lie I am a addicted hardcore gamer, so I need a good router! ^_^
Well I been looking at this WRT330N , which this one interests me a lot!
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859632665&...
I know it's about $200 but I am willing to spend the money if it's worth it! If anyone can share anything about this router or a cheaper and better router please do so!

I started shopping for a wired router to handle a claimed higher speed from my cable provider. I want something that runs at full incoming wire speed. I did not think I would care a lot about special gaming features. One of the techs at work uses the GamerLounge which is made by D-Link and he loves it for gaming. It runs a little over $100. It has a number of features to help automate the setup for gaming and to help debug gaming connection problems. I do not know if Linksys makes anything that is specifically targetted at gaming. You might want to read the various hardware reviews and decide which features you think will be important to you. Linksys has product documentation that describes the products but you will have to understand the terms used in the brochures to decide which device might be best for you. I have a Linksys for wireless support and it is rather slow compared to a wired connection because I run encrypted. If you want to run games on wireless, then published benchmark results may be the number one item on your list. Some routers may have much faster wireless performance than others. Cost will probably be a factor but more expensive does not always mean better. I have a WRT54G V5 and Tom's Hardware has a review discussing some of the serious limitations in V5. I stopped using it as a main router and went back to an old 10 Mbps wired router connected to the cable modem to get better performance. The WRT54G V5 sort of works when used as a wireless access point but Windows file and printer sharing do not work. So ... it all depends on which features are most important to you. Absolute best case is to talk with a friend who has a working setup that they like. Then you can decide if their priorities for choosing features match your priorities.

  • Best Router for both a Mac Pro with Leopard and a Dell

I have posted this question in another forum, but maybe this discussion page is the better one for my question, especially in light of all the connectivity problems I'm reading about for people who have upgraded to Leopard -
Can anyone suggest a good router to purchase that would work with no problems for a Mac Pro with Leopard?
Or, the other side of the coin - what routers have you personally had problems with?
I would be connecting to the router via an ethernet cable, but I'm looking specifically for a g and b router. I need to cover my roommate too - she has a Dell and she uses a wireless usb adapter to connect wirelessly. We have a modem (cable or DSL, I think?) and high-speed internet service.
We were previously using a Netgear router, but suddenly it won't work for more than 10-15 min before it loses connection after we reset it. And this happened before I updated to the Leopard.

Apple AirPort Extreme has served my mixed environment very well. You can buy a refurbished one from Apple and save some $.

    Hi
Developing a simple application using steps "User Decision" and "Mail"
Basic terminology used in the workflow:
The workflow definition is the set of rules that determine the path that the process takes. For example, how a purchase requisition is processed, from the initial request to the creation of the purchase order
A Workflow Instance, which is often simply referred to as the workflow, is a single workflow run. For example, the processing of a single purchase requisition for computers.
The Tasks are the steps in the process, which have to be performed either by people or automatically by the software. For example, to check for the availability of the spare computers in the company.
A Work item is the task instance that is performed as a single workflow step. For example, check that there are no spare computers available in the company.
Agents are the people who process the tasks (via the work items). For example, requisitioner and a member of the purchasing department.
Container is the place where all the data used in the workflow is collected.
Binding is the set of rules that define which data is passed to which part of the process.
    Building a simple workflow application
The central tool for creating, displaying and processing a workflow is the workflow builder (Transaction SWDD). Within the workflow builder you can create all components of a workflow, including all the containers you need for getting the data from one step to another.
Generally, most of the workflows are started by an event (for example, when a material is created or when a new purchase requisition arrives). You define which data from this event needs to be passed to the workflow via binding.
However you can also start any workflow directly. Let us create a simple workflow and start the workflow directly, using the testing tools.
Call transaction SWDD. When the workflow builder is called for the first time, a newly created initial workflow definition appears or else last created workflow appears. In such cases you can opt to create a new workflow by pressing “Create New Workflow”(ctrl + shft + F5). The following screen appears.
The initial workflow screen has the following parts:
    a. The start of the workflow definition, indicated by .
    b. The end of the workflow definition, indicated by .
    c. The area in which you insert the new workflow definition is indicated by .
Now select the undefined step and select Create step or double click the undefined step. Now among the different steps chose the User Decision by double clicking on it.
Developing a simple application using steps "User Decision" and "Mail"
    Previous
Now enter the title for the user decision “ Please make a decision”. Also enter the decision texts as Approve and Reject. On pressing enter, the outcome values default to the Decision texts but you can specify your own names, if desired. Now we need to select the agent. Agent is the person to whom the work item needs to be sent.. Since this is just a beginning, we would hardcode the user name. Select the User from the drop down list and enter the user name to whom the work item needs to be sent. In general, this type of agent assignment is not done. Agents are generally assigned using the expression, agent assignment rule or organization object (job, position etc.).
Now select Transfer and to graphic button. Following screen appears:
Now we need to include a mail step to be sent to the requestor. Now select the line “Approve” and do a right click. Different options on shown on the context menu. Select Create.
Now select the step “Send Mail” from the list.
Developing a simple application using steps "User Decision" and "Mail"
    ...Previous
Now enter the subject and the body of the message for the mail to be sent.
Do not change the recipients. Our mail is intended for the persons who triggered this workflow. &_WF_INITIATOR& contains the value who executed the workflow. Since this is a test object, we are using &_WF_INITIATOR&. But we wouldn’t be using this variable in real time scenarios. We would discuss about this in the coming documents.
Now select Transfer and to graphic button.
A popup appears requesting for the abbreviation and the name for this task. Enter the same and press enter.
Now enter the package as local object and press enter.
Follow the steps 5 through 9 for the step “Reject”. The following screen appears:
Press SAVE to save the workflow application. You need to enter an abbreviation and name for your workflow as shown below. You can change any of these at any later point. After saving, a number is assigned to your workflow starting with WS, as shown below.
Developing a simple application using steps "User Decision" and "Mail"
    ...Previous
To execute the workflow, activate it by choosing the activate button.
Test the workflow by choosing Test. The following screen appears.
Now choose Execute to start the workflow.
Now the recipient would receive a work item in his SAP® inbox (Transaction SBWP).
Now execute the work item by pressing “Execute”. The following screen appears:
Choose one among Approve or Reject as part of the user decision. He can select the third option to retain the work item in his inbox and make the decision later. Now suppose that the recipient has chosen one of the first options. Now a mail would be sent to the requestor with the status of his request.
    Creating a Container element
This document details about creation of a container element in workflow and using it in the step "Mail".
    Pre-requisites:
It is assumed that the reader of this Tutorial is aware of creating a workflow definition with the step “Mail”. If not, please go through the document on creating the same available, by clicking here.
    Steps:
    1. Create a workflow definition using the transaction SWDD.
    2. Let’s create a container element for Carrier id. Click on the “Workflow Container” on the left side of the screen (as shown in the screenshot below):
    3. Now double-click on “Double-Click to Create”
    4. Enter the details pertaining to CARRID here.
    5. Click on tab “Properties” and select “Import”.
    6. Click on “Confirm (Enter)”.
    7. Now the element created could be seen on the left side, below the “Workflow Container”.
    Creating a Container element

    1. Create a “Mail” step by double-clicking on “Undefined” step in the workflow.
    2. Enter the recipient details in the “Recipients” box.
    3. In the subject line, enter “Carrid value entered is:” and click on “Insert Expression”.
    4. Select the element “Carrid” from the list.
    5. Similarly enter the content in the “Body” area.
    6. Save and activate the application.
    Testing the Workflow application:
    7. Test the workflow by clicking F8.
    8. Enter the value of the Carrid as shown above and press execute.
    9. A mail would be sent to the recipient mentioned earlier with the carrid value entered.
    Condition Step
    Agenda:
This document details about the steps “Condition”.
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that the reader of this document has a preliminary understanding of workflow and has worked with the container elements earlier. If not, please go through the first two Tutorials of workflow available in this site. (More details)
    Procedure:
    1. Create a new workflow definition.
    2. Create a container element, CARRID (as demonstrated in tutorial 2).
    3. Now click on undefined step and create the step “Condition”.
    4. Enter the step name of your choice.
    5. We would have the following condition here:
    If carrid = ‘AA’.
    Do this.
    Else.
    Do this.
Click on “Click here to create a new condition”. Following screen appears.
Double click on “Carrid”. Next click on “=” and enter the value “AA” in the constant field and press ENTER.
Enter the outcome names of your choice as shown above.
Click on “Transfer and go to graphic”.
As shown above, there are two branches here. One navigates to true, if CARRID = ‘AA’ else the control takes the branch “False”.
Test the above scenario by inserting mail steps in the above 2 branches and by passing different CARRID values.
    Condition Step
    Agenda:
This document details about the steps “Multiple Condition”.
    3. Now click on undefined step and create the step “Multiple Condition”.
    4. Enter the step name of your choice.
    5. We would have the following condition here:
    If carrid = ‘AA’.
    Do this.
    Elseif carrid = ‘AH’
    DO this.
    Elseif carrid = ‘SQ’
    Do this.
    Else.
    Do this.
Select the “CARRID” using the F4 help for the comparison basis field.
Enter the values of the carrid under the Comparison values with the corresponding outcome name (of your choice)
Double click on “Carrid”. Next click on “=” and enter the value “AA” in the constant field and press ENTER.
Click on “Transfer and go to graphic”.
As observed above, there are different branches for each value of CARRID mentioned above.
Test the above scenario by inserting mail steps in all the branches and by passing different CARRID values.
    Using "Container Operation" step
Agenda: Usage of step “Container Operation”.
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that the reader of this tutorial has worked in the concepts that are dealt in earlier tutorials. (click here for more details)
Scenario: In this tutorial, we would deal about how to work with the step “Container Operation” with an example of calculating the available seats by subtracting occupied seats from the maximum seats at the workflow level.
    Procedure:
    1. Create a new workflow definition using the transaction SWDD.
    2. Create two container elements MaxSeats, Occ_Seats with the “import” property set. You can use the reference fields sflight-seatsmax, sflight-seatsocc for this.
    3. Create another container element AvailableSeats without setting either import or export property as this is calculated within the workflow and used within the workflow. You might use any of the above reference fields as data types.
    4. Define a new step “Container Operation” in the workflow definition by double-clicking on the “Undefined step”.
    5. In this step, we would calculate the available seats from the max seats and seats occupied.
I would recommend entering all the container elements from the F4 help instead of typing them manually.
    6. Return to the main screen.
    7. Create a mail step after this to send the available seats information.
    8. Test the above functionality by passing some values to the maximum and the seats occupied.
    9. Result would be as follows:
    Triggering Events Programmatically
Purpose: This document details the procedure in triggering the business object events programmatically.
Pre-requisites: It is assumed that the reader of this document is aware of the business object concepts and good in ABAP.
    Procedure:
In this document, we would take an example of the business object BUS1001006 (Material) and the event CREATED. In general, this event is triggered whenever a material is created using a standard procedure like MM01 or any others. Now we would trigger this event from our own programs.
Following are the screenshots of the business object BUS1001006 and the event CREATED. Go to transaction SWO1 for more information of the business object.
Double-clicking on the key field parameter gives you technical information of the field.
In order to trigger an event programmatically, we would use the function module SWE_EVENT_CREATE.
Following is the sample code to trigger the events programmatically:
    REPORT ZDEMO_TRIGGER_EVENT.
    DATA: KEY LIKE SWEINSTCOU-OBJKEY.
    KEY = '1163'. “ Material Number (hard-coded)
    CALL FUNCTION 'SWE_EVENT_CREATE'
    EXPORTING
    objtype = 'BUS1001006'
    objkey = KEY
    event = 'CREATED'
    CREATOR = ' '
    TAKE_WORKITEM_REQUESTER = ' '
    START_WITH_DELAY = ' '
    START_RECFB_SYNCHRON = ' '
    NO_COMMIT_FOR_QUEUE = ' '
    DEBUG_FLAG = ' '
    NO_LOGGING = ' '
    IDENT =
    IMPORTING
    EVENT_ID =
    TABLES
    EVENT_CONTAINER =
    EXCEPTIONS
    OBJTYPE_NOT_FOUND = 1
    OTHERS = 2
    IF sy-subrc <> 0.
    MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
    WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
    ELSE.
    WRITE 'Event Triggered'.
    ENDIF.
    COMMIT WORK.
In order to test whether the event is getting triggered or not, we can make use of Event Trace. Switch on the event trace using the transaction SWELS.
    Press ‘Switch On”.
Now execute the program developed earlier. Now switch-off the event trace using the same transaction SWELS.
Now go to transaction SWEL. Here you can list out the events triggered in the particular period of time. Here is the event-trace list:
    Deadline Monitoring in SAP Workflow
A major advantage of workflow is the ability to monitor the workflow steps according to a predefined schedule. Following are different deadlines that can be monitored against each workflow step:
    • Requested Start
    • Latest Start
    • Requested End
    • Latest End
In this example, we will define a deadline to the User Decision example created earlier (click here). Following is the screenshot of the application developed using the User Decision example:
We would extend this example to the deadline monitoring.
In the User Decision step, click on the “latest end” tab.
By default, No deadline monitoring is active (as seen in the above screenshot).
Choose the “Work Item Creation” from the list box.
After selecting “Work Item Creation”, chose an offset of 5 minutes. This means that the work item must be executed within 5 minutes of the creation, if not this would trigger.
    Deadline Monitoring in SAP Workflow
Enter recipient details to whom the message to be escalated, if the work item is not executed with in 5 minutes after work item creation.
Save and activate the workflow definition.
    Testing the workflow application:
    • Execute your workflow.
    • Check for the work item in the SAP Inbox. This time do NOT execute the work item.
    • Wait for the deadline to be triggered. After that, a deadline message is delivered to the recipient mentioned in the “Latest End” tab. See the screenshot below.
Don’t worry if the deadline message doesn’t appear immediately after 5 minutes. This depends on various factors including how the deadline monitoring program is scheduled and also on the availability of the background processors.
Use SWWA to check how the deadline monitoring program is scheduled in program.
For example, assume that our work item has been created at 09:10 hrs and the deadline message is expected to trigger at 09:15 hrs. From the above screenshot, it is understood that the background program is scheduled to execute for every 3 minutes. Assume that the last run of the program is at 09:14hrs and the next run is expected at 09:17hrs. So even our deadline expires at 09:15, the deadline message would appear only at 09:17hrs after execution of the background program.
    Some more points
In our above example, we have used the deadline on the “Work Item” creation time. i.e., 5 minutes after creation time, the deadline message would be sent. Now we would check the other option “Expression”. Here we can mention the date and time, when the deadline message should appear irrespective of the work item creation date/time.
As seen in the above screenshot, we can provide the target date and time by which the task should be finished. Container elements could be used in this case. Please refer to our example on creation of container elements (click here).
    Personal Substitute in Workflow
Requirement: Need to have at least one substitute who can act upon work items in your absence.
Important: The appointed substitute would be able to see all your work items. A substitute cannot be assigned for only particular area of organization or any other item. So need to ensure that the substitute have the necessary authorizations to act upon the work items.
    Procedure:
    1. Go to SAP Business Work Place (TCode: SBWP)
    2. Now from the menu bar, select Settings à Workflow settings à Maintain Substitute
    3. Highlight/Select the name on the window, in this case SAPDEV02 and click on “Create Substitute”.
    4. List of users available in the system are displayed.
    5. Select the required substitute user name. Following screen appears.
Validity field describes about the period in which the setting would be active. Note that the dates on the screen would range from the current date to 31st Dec 9999.
Regarding the checkbox “Substitution active”, it is advised to leave this checkbox unchecked for system performance reasons. A check in this box indicates that the substitution is “permanent” and if left unchecked it is treated as “as-needed”. A permanent substitute will automatically receive the primary users work items in their own box. In the case of “as-needed”, substitute must manually adopt the work items from the primary user’s inbox.
    6. Save the entries
    7. Click Enter to leave the screen.
    Adopting a Substitute in Workflow
If you have been designated as an “as-needed” substitute, you must manually adopt the substitution. If you are designated as a “permanent” substitute, the work items would automatically appear in the inbox.
Before adopting a substitution, there are 19 work items in the inbox. See the screenshot below:
To adopt a substitution, select Settings à Workflow settings à adopt substitution.
Select the corresponding User-id (if you have been assigned as a substitute for multiple people, then this option would allow you to select the user name of whom you would to check the work items)
The corresponding user’s work items would appear in our inbox now.
You can end the substitution, by selecting settings à Workflow settings à End substitution.
Note: Substitutes can only adopt work items that are directly routed to the person for whom they are a substitute. If you are a substitute for a user (SAPDEV02) who has been made a substitute for another user (SAPDEV01), you will only see work items for user SAPDEV02 and not of the user SAPDEV01.
Notification of Work Items via e-Mail
SAP provides us with a facility of notifying the user via the email address of your choice when there are any pending work items in the SAP Inbox..
    1. Go to Transaction SO13.
    2. Click on Automatic Forwarding tab.
    3. Click on Create icon .
    4. Enter the details in the above screen.
    5. Click ENTER to complete the entries.
    6. Now the notification would be received at the provided email address if there are any pending work items in the inbox.
Filtering the Work Items in the SAP Inbox using BADI
This document details about the procedure in filtering some of the work items from the SAP inbox using a BADi.
Following is the screenshot of the SAP inbox, before implementing BADi:
The BADi that is used in filtering the work items is WF_BWP_SELECT_FILTER. To implement the BADi, go to transaction SE18. From the menu, select Implementation à Create. (See the screenshot below)
Enter the implementation name and press ENTER
Enter any meaningful short text for the implementation and click on the tab “Interface”
The implementing class, ZCL_IM_BWP_SELECT_FILTER, is automatically proposed. Double click on the implementing class name.
You are now navigated to the class builder. Now double-click on the method name shown on the screen (see the snapshot below)
Now let us filter out the work items belonging to the task TS2000066. See the code below:
Activate the method and also the implementation. In the state of active, you wouldn’t be able to make any changes. To make any changes, we need to deactivate it and then make the changes.
Now check the inbox and would notice that the work items related to that task are no more appearing.
To notice the differences, try activating and deactivating the BADi implementation.

  • What is the best router for mugs connectivity

i am looking for best networking institute in India, for optical networking please suggest, have heard about Networkers Zone (http://networkerszone.com/) , however needs suggestion and what is the best router for mugs connectivity.

For training on the Cisco Optical I would rrecommend Fastlane http://www.fastlane.si/ they would be able to fullfill your training requirements either in India or at another location even at the Cisco Factory in Monza, they can tailor courses to your specific requirements and also do switching and routing courses too, I have know one of the instructors for over 10 years they are very good.
As far as recommending the best router, that all depends on the application, not what you mean by mugs connectivity, I know what mugs is in English but not sure if thats what you mean or if it is an acronym for something else   in any case if you post in the router section of Net-Pro with your specific requirements I'm sure someone woule be able to help/advise accordingly.
