Good third party documentation?

Robo 7's online Help is hopeless.
Anyone found some complete, deep, well-written user
documentation, hopefully a guide that contains info about
straightening out a fouled up upgrade??
Also, if anyone knows how I can delete one instance of my
inadvertently doubled issue (just scroll down a bit), please let me
know.
Thanks,
John

So turn it off. Tools | Options. Then you will get the local
help which is not perfect but is better.
Without knowing what is fouled up about the upgrade, it is
difficult to advise.

Are there any good third party or otherwise apps and/or plugins for imovie'11?

    Re: Plugins for iMovie 11
Someone just asked this question yesterday. So I am cutting and pasting the answer From Bengt Warleby
    Hi
    You can not.
Nor to iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - They do not accept any Plug-ins.
How about FinalCut Pro X - I don't know but i regard to Apple way of progress - I doubt
For iMovie up to HD6 and FinalCut Express and FinalCut Pro up to 7.0 - there are plenty.

  • P Pro CS5 lack of good third party support (transitions)

As a long time editor on Avid DS and a recent user of FCP, I am very  impressed with a lot of what I saw today after installing CS5 upgrade on  my Mac Pro. Lots of speed...good dynamic linking to AE (BIG SELLER).
But I am underwhelmed with the third party support, specifically in  the area of transitions. Granted FCP has lots of tacky choicss, but FX  Factory has lots of things that are quite cool(film flare  transitions, etc) There is nothing out there to supplement the very  vanilla wipes and dissolves in Premiere Pro from the extensive searching  I have done. Its a shame that such a powerful NLE is so limited in this  respect...otherwise its a real winner from my first exploration.

    dradeke,
That's ok, but why just remove and not add new effects/transitions?
Why not adding effects similar to those included in magic boolet looks, vitascene, or newblue?
And why not 'dip to color' instead of dip to black/dip to white?
Why not adding 'Options' to right click to set defaults? Something like this:
    Other than effects:
    Why PSD is rendered?
Why not adding 'Auto extend' to right click on work area bar? Once you move manually in or out there is no way to set it to automatically extend when new clips are added to timeline.
'Render only selected clips' will be useful too.

  • What is a good third party display to use with the Mac Mini?

The Acer monitor I bought simply doesn't work with my first generation Mac-Mini. When connected to the VGA connection I get a "input not supported" message. When I connect the DVI, the screen blacks out when I scroll and then comes back, at first I thought it was just with Firefox but soon discovered it was with any application I used. After some research on the internet I discovered that there is a problem with the firmware design on the DVI's on Acer Monitors. My new Acer monitor is enjoying it's new home in my sisters office, on her desk, connected to the VGA plug on her computer, enjoying Windows XP.
At another web site for the Mac-Mini I was told that there are not that many displays that work for the Mac-Mini and I would be better off purchasing an Apple display, only problem is that the Apple displays are not within my budget. I would like some suggestions on this board from users as to what third party displays they use with a first generation Mac-Mini? I'm looking in the budget range of $200 to $250 dollars. I have a first generation Mac-Mini, Mac OS X Panther.
PS I have tried setting monitor resolutions using both the VGA and DVI plug, they don't work.
Thank you for any help I receive.

    Charles,
I cannot speak on behalf of hooking this model of monitor up to a mini, however I do have a 19" Planar monitor at home hooked up to an old G4 tower via VGA, and the 19" Planar monitor that I have at work is hooked up via digital to my G4 15" PowerBook. I love both of these Planar 19" LCD monitors, and have absolutely no complaints. Planar's three year warranty is nice, and their tech support is top notch. I had an issue with the monitor at work, and I had a replacement on my desk in two days. Returning the bad monitor in the pre-paid box that the new one came in made things effortless. We have a few Planar's in the school district that I work in, and have no major issues with any of them.
Not too sure what the most recent pricing is on this model, but CDW was selling them for around $225-$230 delivered right to your door.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe help stinks - Any good third party manuals?

I've just purchased CS6 Extended, and I see that the only help I can get is online help, rather than a good, searchable help file, as in earlier versions. It seems they feel they can eliminate the pay checks of technical writers by having their developers put on videos, in which they natter along with zero teaching skills, seemingly more interested in showing off their latest enhancements, than actually having to explain HOW they work. There was just ONE guy (I can't remember his name) of all the videos I've gone through, who actually presented his subject in a logical, thoughtful way, and the manner in which he spoke seemed to indicate that he had actually had some teaching experience.
I think Photoshop is a wonderful program, and CS6 64 bit is fantastic, but good luck trying to learn anything quickly with the current lame help system that is so obviously more interested in trying to push cloud to get people’s money on tap for a nice, steady flow of revenue. But we users are not cash cows, and I resent the feeling that that is what we're being perceived as by Adobe. You pay a high cash price for this software, and then you get help that's really mostly Adobe bragging and self-promotion via developer geeks with poor communication skills.
Now that I've done my indignant customer scolding thing, does anybody know of a particular 3rd party book that addresses the 3d features that started a release or 2 ago and are supposedly so much better now for CS6?

The concept of the on-line Help is a good one - it can be updated instantly, and with the Community Help tie-in, can be expanded. This makes it even more "evergreen," than a PDF file.
However, just like you, I find it to be rather a pain. I come from the age of manuals, and appreciate having a good book, with an index, handy.
I have all of my manuals for PS, starting with version 2.5, and up through CS 2. Each has proved very useful, and each has been read from page 1, until the end.
Then, my life changed. First it was the PDF, and I would just take that to a printer (having to jump though some © hoops), but with the full, on-line, I find it tougher to locate what I need, and I have been using the program for decades, so know most naming conventions - until those change.
Once, one would have a ring-bound manual, and about every quarter, and little package would arrive with revisions, and addenda, to be added to the manual. Those days are long gone. I have even paid extra $ to Adobe, for manuals in one of my last upgrades. For me, that was worth the expense.
Still, because I am a dinosaur, I had better get used to the state of affairs. CS 6 will likely be my last upgrade, and I will just rely on Photoshop User magazine to fill me in.

  • What's a good third party to use with an unwanted rarely used iPod Shuffle?

    Hello.
I don't want to use Apple's iTunes. I have these updated operating systems (OSes): Debian (Linux) stable, Windows XP Pro. SP3, and Mac OS X (10.5.8 and 10.8.2). I noticed Windows asked me to format it since its FS was unreadable to it, but Debian could read its HPS (no write). I assume I could format it as FAT32 and use it as an 7 GB USB flash drive, but I'd like to use its screen too if possible.
Thank you in advance and happy new year.

  • Is there a good third-party application for recovering items that were inadvertently emptied from the Trash?

I thought I might have better luck here.

  • What's a good 3rd party iPhoto replacement?

I have a large number of slideshows which I’ve made with iPhoto 7.1.5 to which I have applied carefully-adjusted effects settings and music for each slide. They are as perfect as I can get them for my usage. I have tried both importing as well as totally re-doing some of  them from scratch in iPhoto 9.1.3 with no success. My settings will not stick in 9.1.3 (yes I have looked at all the other posts and tried the fixes offered in this forum but to no avail) and I do not like the theme based format at all. I like full screen slides with ONLY the settings and syncronization that I have applied to each slide, all of which has worked perfectly for me in 7.1.5.
My great fear is that although my present iMac has and is working perfectly, one day I will have to replace it and whatever new one I get might most likely not run iPhoto 7.1.5 so all of my work could be lost.
I am prepared to drop iPhoto usage altogether and work with a good third party application that will allow me to individually set my slides as I want them set without forcing me to use some theme or other (as the new iPhoto and some third party apps seem to do) and to which I can perfectly synchronize music to the flow of the slides just like I’m able to do in 7.1.5.
My question then is what would be a good third party application for this purpose? Again I am perfectly willing to redo all of the shows from scratch in that new app if it will work the way I’ve described.
Thanks to all for reading this lengthy post  :-)
    Rick

    Hello Steven,
As promised I’m letting you know my decision on replacing iPhoto with Aperture for making slideshows. I’m going with Aperture. As a test I imported the iPhoto 7.1.5 pictures from two of my longest and most complex slideshows (no problem at all with that) so as to give Aperture a good tryout. Using the “Classic” mode when choosing themes (actually no theme at all) I was able to very easily rebuild the two shows I was testing. In those two shows each slide is individually timed to the phrases and tempo of the musical background, no easy task in iPhoto 7 but a cinch in Aperture. I noticed a close resemblance to iPhoto 11 ( the newest version) in setting those individual slides, but with Aperture all of the settings I made actually stuck!  That was my main frustration with the newest iPhoto and was the reason I was looking for a replacement in the first place.
All of the effects used for each individual slide were also easy to redo. So the remaking of slideshows from iPhoto is not at all difficult; that is once you’ve figured out the way things are done in Aperture. That took a little time and was occasionally frustrating. I found that just quitting for awhile and resuming the job later was very helpful but once learned, it’s just fine. There is a downloadable PDF manual, which is more or less helpful, but digging in and getting to work on a project is still the best way to learn the application . . . for me, that is ;-)
Although I use Photoshop Elements for processing my shots before using them in slideshows I found that it’s really handy to use Aperture’s many photo retouching tools on the fly when building slideshows. Something that is very limited in iPhoto. It’s possible that some people may find that those built-in tools are all they need for spiffing up their photos with no need for other applications for that purpose. In my case, I’ll stick with PE for that if for no other reason than that I’m used to using it (and also already have it :-) ).
There are lots of other features available in Aperture that I haven’t yet checked out but that will be something for me to play with later once I get all my slideshows transferred over.
For TD, thanks again for the tip on PhotoToMovie. I gave it a try also but found that it played havoc with the quality of my photos. Once I saw that, I stopped checking it out. Too bad since it is about a quarter of the price of Aperture.

  • Third Party Transitions and/or Special Effects for iMovie '09

Can anyone recommend some good third party plug ins for iM '09? I'm moving from iM HD where I had many to choose from.

Keep iMovie HD if you get iMovie 09.
They are very different, some good features with both.
iMovie 09 has no 3rd party plugins only what it comes with.

  • Third Party PO "No direct postings can be made to G/L"

    Hi,
I am not able to create a PO from a Sales order/Pur.Req. and receive this error message "No direct postings can be made to G/L acct. 401201 in CoCode 0015. Message no. ME038. The G/L account you entered is a control account. Transactions cannot be posted direct to a control account."
The material have 2 sales organisations created in the material master tab: "Sales: sales org.2". The difference between them is the Distr. Ch. (EDI and Direct sales) and Item category groups (BANS and NORM).
OME9: Account assignment cat. is "X", consumption posting "V"
OBYC: Valuation Class (same as in material master), debet and credit "401201".
    OKB9: Cost Element "401201", Cost Center "156473".
I have tried to unmark the G/L account "Post automatically only" but then I got another error message incomparison in two tables T004F and T162K related to the WBS element.
I would really appreciate some help.
    Thanks!
    Christer

    Explanation of the process.
    1. Create a normal Third-Party order to customer Tcode VA01 (Item cat. TAS)
    2. Create PO from the assigned Pur.Req assigned to the customer order ME57
    The material master settings
Valuation class Z101 "Trading Goods/Third Party"
    G/L account settings "401201"
    "Cost of goods sold"
    "P & L statement account"
"Field status group Z107, P&L Change in stock account"
    "Post automatically only" marked
(Tcode OBC4, "WBS Element" and "Business Area" Suppressed)
    Movement type "101"
    Co.Code 0015
    Tcode OBYC
GBB "Offsetting entry for inventory posting"
    Val.mod./Gen.mod/Val.Class/Debit/Credit
    5000/VAX/Z101/401201/401201/401201
    Tcode OME9 "Account Assignment Categories"
    *Acct.modification "VAX"
The problem occured to inconsistences of the WBS element and Business Area in the tables. After changing them to optional entry it was ok to create the PO and I had also to unmark "Post automatically only". in the G/L for the account.
I am so grateful to all of you for your help to solve this issue!

  • Third party tools to extend Webi graphic capabilities

    All,
Is any one aware or uses any good third party plug-ins to extend webi charts/graphic capabilities?
We are looking for a plug-in that will help us extend webi charting or in general report formatting capabilities.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Webi currently has limited charting options. For e.g: You cannot have a stacked vertical chart with a line chart.
    I did come across

i haven't got a chance to check it out. I am basically looking for more such third-party options.

  • Third Party Infinitiy 2 Compatible Modem

    Hi,
I have received my HH5 and have spent a merry time disabling everything in preparation for my install, to discover that you have to have DHCP enabled to set the DMZ to the static IP of my networks router. I have to say the interface is so dumb down that I am not going to get on with the thing and to me it seams daft fighting with the HH5 to effectively remove it from the equation.  So as BT does not seam to mind us using third party devices so long as we don't expect them to support our equipment, and as my router supports PPPoE does anybody know of a good third party vDSL2 modem not a router that is compatible with infinity 2 (I think that is profile 17a)?

You can use either an Huawei HG612 or ECI modem as previously supplied
by Openreach. Both variants can be found on a well known auction site and are
    not too expensive from there.
If you want to monitor your line stats then I would recommend getting an unlocked
version of the HG612 and using either DSLStats or HG612Stats programs (look on
kitz forum for further details of these and the modems).
Hope this is of some help.

  • Third party battery recommendation

    Hi all,
I am thinking about buying a new battery for my 15" Powerbook (FW 800). Anyone have recommendations for a good third party battery? I've found numerous references to the NuPower battery (though, does it matter that it's 11.1 V instead of 10.8 V?):
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAP15AL4800/
I've also found this battery from needbattery.com which has the highest amp hours I've seen (5.85), though since some manufacturers report Watt-hours instead it's hard to compare :
    http://tinyurl.com/etwr2
There is also this interesting (and perhaps more environmentally friendly?) option of refilling the battery):
    http://tinyurl.com/gny4s
Any thoughts/recommendations? I'm clearly not so saavy on the battery issue. Thanks for any advice.
    Powerbook 15   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.25 GHz, 768 MB RAM

How many time have you run battery reset? Mine took 4 times before the recall test tool showed I qualify.
You need to install Power manager.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-62928.html
    Once installed preform a reset
Lenovo Power Manager > Advanced > Battery Tab > Battery Maintenance > Preform Reset
I had to preform 4 resets before the battery biagnostic tool saw the bad battery and I was able to get a recall replacement. The reset build a log of the battery problem and the diagnostic tool uses that log to decide if you get a replacement.
