can anyone please post good tuning books and links to learn sql and database tuning

It is kind of strange that every now and then I come across such post on these forums. But still I fail to understand that why do people in general ask questions that have wrong or incorrect approaches. Seems they do not read at all. My statement is not intended to anyone just my observation.

This question is for both the uncredited (private) courses and the bigger accredited accounts.    I am a developer trying to learn how to help my area schools and also have some ideas for my own courses.    Obviously keeping within the iTunes U app would be preferred in most cases (to the learning experience) since they can take notes and see them within the app itself.
If the reply comes from a non-apple employee please let me know (or better yet, link to) where that is clarified.   I would hate to develop something just to later find out it is against the apple iTunes U agreement.

And, to be even more fair, I have to tell you that I get that every single day. And it's getting worse (or better, depending on how you look at it).
I always try to let people know it's a long way until you get to a confortable point, a point where you can create something. And that's exactly what I am trying to do, or at least asking how/if I should do it. And then I let them know where to start. That's what I want.

If you are starting from a position of no knowledge at all, I'm afraid there is nothing that is going to give you the knowledge you need in the time frame you have. I will say you need to start by learning the rules of Data Normalization. Make your logical design Third Normal Form. Good can be your friend. There is actually a pretty good write-up on Data Normalization on Wikipedia.

Differernce between SQL Tuning Pack and SQL Tuning Advisor, Access Advisor

Hi. all.
I have been using "TKPROF" in order to tune SQL till now.
I am learning 10g, and would like to know the difference
between "1. SQL Tuning Pack" and "2. SQL Tuning Advisor, Access Advisor".
Are they same thing? If not, what are the differences in their "functionality"?
All I know is that SQL Tuning Pack is not free, and SQL Tuning Advisor
is packed with default installation. Right???

Hi,
There are alternatives to the Oracle tuning packs, and remember the SQL advisors are relatuively simple, finding missing indexes and recommending MV's.
A human can do a better job if you use the right techniques.
BTW, you can get a SQLTuning advisor license online for only $3k:

RoboHelp 10 can't update linked FrameMaker book

When I open a previously working project and go to update the FrameMaker files, the Update and Update All options are greyed out.
A possible culprit is that Windows Update ran automatically while the project was open, and then restarted the machine.
If I Force Update All, RH launches an instance of FM, which doesn't open anything and remains on its startup screen. If FM is already running with the book + .fm files open, another instance of FM starts w/o loading any files. RH then hangs, going into a "Not responding" state in Task Manager.
If I start a new blank project and attempt to link to the FM book, RH launches another blank instance of FM and hangs.
I tried opening the project and exporting the project settings in an .isf file, but RH hangs trying to scan.
i tried relinking the FM book, but RH launches another blank instance of FM and hangs.
i tried deleting the book, but RH hung partially through the deletion.
i tried reinstalling RH. Same behavior.
Is there some file I can delete and/or restore to reacquiant FM and RH?
Note that when Windows Update ran the FM book was open too, and when I subsequently generated/updated the book, some files were listed as missing and some cross-refs were broken. This was fixed by replacing the broken cross-refs. The FM book generated/updated with no errors before the first attempt to update in RH.

Summary
This issue was resolved.
It seems to have been a registry corruption on my machine due to a Windows Update restart that occurred when the Help project and FrameMaker project were open.
The main symptom was that RoboHelp could no longer update the project from the FrameMaker files and was spawning a new instance of FM with each retry, even if FM was already open.
I tried lots of things: opened a new project, restored a backup copy of project, attempted an export of project etc., etc. (see above).
The solution was to:
- revert to a "known good" restore point in Windows (before the auto-update)
- deactivate and uninstall TCS 4
- run Windows Update
- re-install TCS 4
- turn automatic Windows Updates OFF
Everything in FrameMaker and RoboHelp generates properly now.

Hello expert,
I am installing Oracle 9i products. When I search docs from otn.oracle.com website, I do get some books such as installation and administration guide. But these book still can not clear everything, do I need to bug some commercial book to administrating database, Application server. Are the online books from OTN site enough? What books for administration is good.

I use online docs at http://tahiti.oracle.com (all things are well documented !?) and lots of notes are really useful on metalink.
I only buy Pocket Reference from O'Reilly on few things (SQL Tuning, Rman, PL/SQL, ...)
asktom.oracle.com is really useful specially on tuning (the next book of Tom Kyte will be really good too : Oracle Performance by Design).
www.ixora.com.au is good too about tuning (and the book of Steve Adams is a bible about advanced tuning).

HT201272 1 track from iTunes is only playing until 3:50 (should be 14:48). Rest of album is OK. Happens on computer & iPod. How do I fix that track? "Purchased (new)" on right side of iTunes doesn't give me a Music option - just Apps and Books.

I've purchased and downloaded an album from the iTunes store. It has 5 tracks. Tracks 1-4 are all fine. Track 5 is broken - it should have approx 15 minutes of music, but only plays to just under 4 minutes. This happens on my computer and on my iPod. How can I fix this please?
I've tried going to the "Purchased (new)" option in the quick links on the right hand side of the iTunes store. I thought I'd see an option for "Music" on the page it takes me to, but I don't get that option: I only see Apps and Books.
I'm using the computer that I purchased and downloaded the album from. It is authorised for this account.
I'm not aware of interrupting the download yesterday - it all seemed OK to me at the time and I thought it had completed successfully.
The album is Dvořák: Cello Concerto, Zuill Bailey, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra & Jun Markl. It's the last track (In Nature's Realm) that's got the problem.

RoboHelp 10 Crashes consistently when trying to delete linked FM11 book

I have a linked project where RoboHelp absolutely refuses to display part of a topic and some of the images. So I decided to delete the linked FM book file and start again from scratch (this was a FM10/RH9 project originally). This causes RH to crash consistently. Any ideas?

I thought that moving my project location to a shorter path had solved my Cross references issue, but it hasn't. Here is a page from the Help:
These are all the same Heading style in FM
The X Refs are all to headings within the Current FM file
They are all the same Cross Reference Format (Heading & Page)
Thje Cross Reference conversion setting is set to Para Text in RH

EJB Finder View Links and CMR

Hi,
Can someone please give me some input on the following warning in the JDeveloper online help!
"Warning: You cannot create an EJB finder view link that expresses the same relationship as a CMR."
I'm new to EJB, BC4J and JDeveloper. I created container managed entity beans with local interfaces only to represent my data and relationships. No problems with the mapping so far.
To test the beans I used Session Facades with remote interfaces and build a sample test client.
Now I thought I could create EJB Entity Facades, EJB Finder View Objects, EJB Finder View Links and EJB Application Modules to make use of the BC4J framework in order to speed up programming clients (JSP and JClient).
So I've started studying the JDeveloper online help (which seems to be very useful) and found the above mentioned warning.
Well, better a warning than nothing at all, but some more explanations would have been even better.
Is there no need to use view links with CMR?
How to achieve the same functionality (synchronizing two view objects in a master-detail-relationship) with CMR?
Do you know any examples? I couldn't find any examples using EJB entity facades in the "sample code" area on OTN.
Any comments about other (better) architectures are also welcome. Would it be better to use BMP entity beans in conjunction with BC4J?

For educational purposes I'd like to look at both persistence implementation strategies. I agree that it looks definitly easier to use entity objects. Certainly it's also performancewise a better choice.
Anyhow, could you give me some useful tips for cmp entity beans and finder view objects?
Is there something which works completely different if I use BC4J on top of it?
How to implement a master-detail relationship in JClient (Swing) for example?
What about writing an ejbfinder which doesn't return all, but all data where the foreign key is equal to a parameter passed to the finder method and use this as the source for a detail view object. This could be the primary key of the selected master. Well, I don't know whether this is doable. But that's what comes to my mind spontaneously.
Would this be a solution? I'm still thinking about the aforementioned warning in the online help regarding view links.
I guess the problem is that the foreign key is not part of the entity bean as it's not a cmp-field. Instead you have accessor methods to retrieve a related object or a collection of objects.
I'm sure my questions are not too complicated to answer. It's only hard for a beginner to get an overview.
I'm quite confident that I'll manage this if I give my best and get some help from knowledgeable people like you Steven.

The App description did not say anything that it would not do what I was trying to do. I wrote sup[port and asked if they could issue a credit. Mari at support wrote back and said he checked with his supervisor and they could not issue a credit. I told them what a good loyal customer I have been to Itunes and Apple and they still refused. Granted the App did not cost a lot of money (3.99) but it’s the principle. With customers having options to shop anywhere I would think a business would do whatever it takes to retain the loyal customers they do have Occasionally I rush to buy an App without fully understanding if it meets my needs. According to ITunes support that has occurred nine times. Here is the last reply that I received Roger, I know how frustrating it can be when things don't work the way they should be and I do apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you. I am sorry but we could not be able to grant your request as we have made 9 exceptions on you. You've already had 9 refunds? You understand that apps are sold on a non-return policy, presumably. You bought an app that didn't claim to do something that you wanted from it, and now that you've found that it doesn't, you want your money back.
Perhaps you've failed to explain your point properly but I can't see why you expect any sympathy from users here, not that it would make any difference. Only the store staff can issue refunds if they think appropriate. Chalk it up to experience. You could even contact the developer in advance of a purchase if you want to be certain an app does what you want. Then if it really fails to live up to the promise you would at least have a better argument for a refund.

Confirmation Link in SRM to Goods Recipt Link in R/3

Hi All-
We are on SRM 5.0, Classic scenario. Currently, we have problems with the Confirmation extract from SRM, so we want to implement a change, where we only use the GR Extract from R/3, but we still want to include the SRM Confirmation Number. In order to do this, we have two approaches we can take:
1) Do a call from R/3 to SRM to get it (but we need to know how they are linked, and I am told that the link is from SRM to R/3)
2) Change the Conf to R/3 process to pass the Conf number from SRM to R/3
Question:
1.) How are the confirmation number in SRM and Goods Receipt number in R/3 linked?
2.) How does the information of a Goods receipt in R/3 brought back to SRM? (I know the BBP_GET_STATUS_2 Job does it, but i am trying to understand what tables this complete link of S/C->PR->PO->Conf->GR->INv are stored in?
Any ideas would be appreciated !

How to make a "return delivery" from a goods mvnt linked to a reservation

Hi, I want to realize a "return delivery" from a goods mvnt that is linked to a reservation number.
I'm using FM BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE.
I'm able to create a goods mvnt, but this doesn't updates the quantity in the reservation document.
For example:
There are 10 units of a material reserved in a reservation document.
I create a goods mov. linked to the reservation number by populating the field RESERV_NO and RES_ITEM in the GOODSMVT_ITEM parameter. In this document I fullfilled the TARGET_QTY field with 10. This the positive movement.
After that, reservation document says that there are no units pending to serve. (10 reserved - 10 served = 0 pending).
Now, I want to return 2 units of this material. I fullfilled the fields REF_DOC_YR, REF_DOC and REF_DOC_IT with keys (doc/item/year) of the first goods movement, and MOVE_TYPE with the reversal movement number. But this doesn't updates the quantity in the reservation document.
I tried fullfiling RESERV_NO and RES_ITEM, but this generates a positive movement, not the reversal!
Is there any other process that updates quantity in the reservation document?
Could anybody help me?

1) Create a button on the chapter menu with the text MAIN MENU (or whatever you want it to say).
2) Select the chapter menu in either the graphical or outline view of your DVD.
3) Click on the Connections tab.
4) Select the MAIN MENU button in the source column.
5) Select the main menu in the Targets column.
6) Click the Connect button above the Targets column.
After doing the above steps you should see the main menu in the Target column to the right of "MAIN MENU:Jump when activated" in the source column. Your MAIN MENU button will now take you back to the main menu.
