Good video capture app

what is a good standalone video capture app?

"i used to use something called winDV which would upload everything i watned to as seperate clips (being every time i pressed the rec button would be a seperate clip) is there anything like this?"
FCP makes this pretty simple. Just capture your whole tape with FCP (which is super easy, btw, if you have your capture configurations set correctly) or whatever utility you end up using, and then in the Browser do the following:
1 - select your captured sequence by clicking on it once
2 - Mark > DV Stop/Start Detect
3 - click the arrow to the left of your captured sequence to expand
4 - select all of the segments in your captured sequence
5 - Modify > Make Subclip
You will then have a clip for every break in your tape.

  • Screen/Video Capture app?

Looking for a good video/screen capture application for desktop/application live-capturing.
I started playing Minecraft and found that I wanted to start a Let's Play series on YouTube but realized I don't have the applications to do so.  Anyone recommend a good App out there (preferrably already in Mac App Store as I have money on my account), otherwise other options are secondary.
    Thanks abound.
I apologize if I'm not comepletely clear - have had a long day - hope you understand my question.

Thanks for the link.  I took a quick look, and for $100 is quite steep, but then again I DID get the App card for free.

  • What is a good screen capture app non root for ios?

I am hoping to find a good non root screen capture app in the app store so i can record game play for clash of clans i've found one for android but not for apple.... Maybe someone could help me out?

You know you can take a screen shot anytime by holding both the sleep / wake button and the home button at the same time, right?  These captures would go to your Recent Photos.

  • How do get rid of an addon when it's not listed in the Addons? It's a video capture app and (small red circle on the bar) . Help!

I can't remember the name of the addon, it looks like a small red dot on my toolbar. I know that you need to install CSHelper extension in order for the video capture to work.
I don't want to software but as I stated before the addon isn't listed in the Addon section and if it is I don't see it.
I really don't want to have to uninstall it Firefox and reinstall it but I will as a last resort. :(
    Any help would be appreciated.

Could be "Download Helper" (Video Download Helper). It has a screen capture option and that option requires CSHelper.
*Info about the screen capture option of this add-on here - http://www.downloadhelper.net/screen-capture.php

  • IPhone Screen Video Capture?

I'm wondering what the best way is to capture video from an iPhone 4 screen for app demonstration purposes. I did some looking around and it seems the best way is to use an screen capture program, such as Screen Flow in conjunction with an iPhone simulator.
Is there a video capture app that works directly on the iPhone, or can someone recommend a good screen capture/simulator combo?
    Thanks!

I believe you'll need to be a registered developer in order to gain access to the tools necessary to do that.

Does anyone know of a good app for chroma keying (or green screening) on the ipod touch 4g? I have seen like ten or so, but was wondering if anyone here has used one that they really like?
Also if anyone knows of a good video editing app for ios? I was really dissappointed in imovie, i knew it wouldn't be like the mac version, but no editing of backround music, no choseing your own transition just using them transition for the whole video, and same w/ text!

    Any ideas?

  • Video Capture Devices?

What is a good video capture device for the macbook that I could use to capture video from my video camera(which has no firewire or USB ports on it).

Your camera is a Hi8 and is also known as "analog". I'm an editor.
Since you're camera doesn't have a FireWire port (which is what all capturing is done with), there's no way to capture without an external device, as you may know.
So, I suggest getting the Canopus ADVC-110. I have it and it works flawlessly with FCP (which is what I edit in) and it will work with iMovie also. There is also the Canopus ADVC-55. For both of these adapters, you'll need to hook up the RCA (white, red and yellow) cables to the device, and capture. Your camera should have RCA inputs. These devices are a little expensive, but they work great. No additional software/drivers. It's worth it.
    Canopus ADVC-110
    Canopus ADVC-55
Similar in price, personally I would get the ADVC-110.
Remember to mark as helpful or solved.

  • Video capture, video upload quagmire

Hello, I see that this question was a asked several days ago, but hopefully, someone may be able to give some direction.
I am working on a project which will require the capturing and recording of videos through the clients' webcams.  Doing this through Flash Media Server is an option, but I would like to get the best possible video recording without being restricted by the limitations of bandwidth.  So I thought that it would be a simple matter of using Flex and AIR to capture the video and save it to the local hard drive, and then upload the video onto the server.  I would think that this would give the best possible video quality results.  And I thought that it would be logical that I would simply be able to direct the video stream to a local file rather than directing it onto the server, but this doesn't seem to be the case.  I have been exploring an alternative to AIR through the use of Java Media Framework, as it may provide the best cross platform solution.  I would prefer to stay within the AIR framework, but it does seem to be limited in this regard.  Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on how to proceed in this development?

Hi, I worked on the problem for a few weeks, and I decided to give up on the idea, as I never came across anything that could do it.  I really needed to be able to record high quality video through an AIR application, and have it be easy for the user to use.  I get the sense that the flash environment slows down the processing too much for good video capturing.  I started to look at the possibility of using the Merapi bridge to access the now defunct Java Media Framework, but that would still require too much configuration on the part of the user for not that great of video quality.  I did however find that On2 has something that would work, and for a mere $12,000, I could have it.  But the best solution seems to be to not use AIR, and instead, use Nokia's Qt Widget along with VLC media player.  I just wasn't really that interested in pursuing it, especially since it would mean programming in C++.

  • Video conferencing app

I am looking for a good video conferencing app that works off Wifi for holding video conferencing between one buisness location and another. Looking for one with capabilites that include uploading a visual presentation that can be seen by those in conference, has the ability to link up with several other users so more than just two way or three way conferencing. Preferibly looking for free apps, so that they can be easily downloaded by other users but also looking for high quality so all suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

Using NetStream API it looks like is not going to be possible:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/net/NetStream.htm l
Special considerations for H.264 video in AIR 3.0 for iOS
For H.264 video, the iOS APIs for video playback accept only a URL to a file or stream. You cannot pass in a buffer of H264 video data to be decoded. Depending on your video source, pass the appropriate argument to NetStream.play() as follows:
For progressive playback: Pass the URL of the file (local or remote).
For streaming video: Pass the URL of a playlist in Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) format. This file can be hosted by any server; Flash Media Server 4.5 and higher has the advantage of being able to encode streams in HLS format.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.

  • Anyone using Elgato Video Capture with good results?

I've got some VHS tapes that I want to edit in iMovie '11 (and/or FCE).
Viewed on a TV monitor, the image quality of the tapes varies from acceptable to very good - but I am very disappointed with the quality of the video once imported, using Elgato Video Capture, to my MBP. It is very indistinct and washed out. Only the audio remains as clear as the original.
Anyone had any success with using Video Capture to convert old tapes?
Any advice and/or feedback would be much appreciated!

    conran wrote:
Thanks Coolmax - I tried that, but no discernible improvement unfortunately.
These are the tech specs from the Elgato site:
    Video resolution: 640×480 (4:3) or 640×360 (16:9)
    Video format: H.264 at 1.4 MBit/sec or MPEG-4 at 2.4 MBit/sec
    Audio: AAC, 48kHZ, 128 kBit/sec
I've tried both H.264 and MPEG-4 without much success. The resulting footage is always extremely grainy and 'muddy'. Any other ideas?
If I understand this correctly, Elgato can save your footage either in H.264 or MPEG-4 and you tried both. If the original file plays with ok quality and the resulting footage after being finalized by iMovie 11 look worse, I think we need to determine what are you finalizing to?
In "Export to Quicktime", you can choose the compressor to "none". Do this with a short clip as the resulting file will be big. Play back this video.
If there is a degradation in video, then you know it is iMovie 11 process that is causing it. From here on, you can further compress the video using Handbrake and adjust the settings to give best quality vs size.
There are software available on the PC side that can enhance and resize an already weak VHS captured footage and make it look better before you import it into iMovie 11. But this require quite a bit of computer horsepower to complete it in any acceptable time frame.

  • What is a good video converter for iMac?  Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

What is a good video converter for iMac?  Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

Rather than convert, you'd be better off capturing with a more current version of the program -- one that supports AVCHD video. Otherwise, you're in for a lot of headache. A converter isn't going to solve your problems.
BTW, when you say Premiere 6, do you mean Premiere 6 -- which is over 10 years old? (There was no Premiere Elements 6.)
Trust me on this: Capture with a Mac version of Premiere Elements 11 or 12 and your video will be perfectly compatible with any Mac program.

  • Voice Controled Video Capture 2 Microphone Problem

I am trying to use AppleScript to do a few video capture functions by
voice control and I have hit a stumbling block where I don't think that
I can have 2 mics open at the same time.
I have the voice control part working and I can get BTV Pro to turn on
the camera and start recording but when I do it cuts the mic for the
    voice control aspect.
I am using an iSight for the video capture and a USB headphone with mic
for the voice control and status feedback.
Is there any way to keep both mics active? Allowing the voice recognition server to
listen to the USB mic and the video recrding app to listen to the iSight mic.
I have a copy of the script here:

Thank you for a very comprehensive post.
The usual suspects in this situation are:
    - Capture now caught in an endless loop allocating disk space
    or
    - Firewire bus problems
    or
    -Quicktime install issues
Capture Now: You have taken a good step is setting a limit in capture now. Often that is all it takes if there are no other issues.
Firewire Bus Problems: Canon cameras are notorious for their weak implementation of the firewire control protocol and do not play well with other devices (aka hard drives) on the same firewire bus.
To test for firewire overload - take away your external hard drive and try capturing directly to an internal disk. If it works, you have two ways to solve the problem. You could install a PCI firewire card. This will create a second bus and you connect your camera to the new card and your hard drive(s) to the original firewire ports on the computer. Or, install a second internal hard drive within the computer and make that the capture scratch disk.
Quicktime Problems: If you can't capture directly to your internal disk, try capturing with iMovie. iMovie does not use Quicktime in capturing, it simply writes the DV stream file directly to the disk without any processing (splitting into seperate audio & video components). If iMovie works, your Quicktime installation is likely funky. Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
I hope one of these items addresses your issues.
    Good luck.
