  • Good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts

    Hi,
I have a work experience on the BEA weblogic server 8.1 sp4 on which i have worked for about 2 year now. My current assignment requires working with the Installation/ Development and deployment in the Fusion middleware 11g server. Could some body please suggest me a good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts.
I understand that all the documentations are available in the Oracle forum, but i want to understand where to start from.
my core tasks in the assignment would be
    1. installation (OSB on top of WLS).
    2. development/configuration on OSB.
    3. Deployment and administrative tasks.
    regards,
    Prakhar

Hi thanks for the update. I have been going through the links and found them very useful.
    I have few new doubts.
In all the tutorials for getting started with the Fusion middleware, the examples which are given use the Oracle JDeveloper extensively. This IDE is used for implementing the BEPL and other important aspects. I found this very similar to the Workshop IDE initially bundled with the BEA-Weblogic 8.1. Is JDeveloper enhanced to accomodate the features of the Weblogic Workshop IDE?
Also, i need some information regarding the Eclipse IDE which is bundled with the OSB installation. Are there any tutorials available which show how to use the Eclipse IDE with OSB.
Also, can the Eclipse IDE be used to implement the same set of components which are being developed using the JDeveloper in the tutorials.
My concern here is i want to know the best way to start with the training/development. I am already familiar with the Eclipse IDE and donot want to switch to the JDeveloped unless it is absolutely necessary. Can one of these IDE be used repeacebly in place of other.
Please inform me if in case my wuestion is not clear.
    Regards,
    Prakhar

  • Good way to start with the WM programming?

I follow "Community Contributions" and I'm testing every new WM what's out there. I know C and I would like to write the WM. How did you learn to write your first WM?
What would you suggest to starting WM programmer? Reading Xlib (or others) reference manuals or just studying other WM's source code? Or something else?

TTWM's code is a complete mess.  I don't know what kind of fool is responsible for that collection of kludges!
I'll second the recommendation for TinyWM, but once you want to dig deeper I'd suggest looking at other non-reparenting window managers.  I don't know of any non-reparenting floating WMs other than TinyWM, so that may leave you with the tilers - many of which have been mentioned.
Dwm is a good choice.  That is some finely polished code that has some bright people working for some time to perfect it.  But it has the downside for learning that it does implement many more "complex" features.  It can also be hard to follow the program logic sometimes as there are so many function calls - you have to scroll back and forth through the code while trying not to lose your place ... bring your breadcrumbs.
In my own coding I try to minimize function calls - not for optimizing the code, as the compiler will handle this pretty well - but for making it more readable.  In every place where a series of actions will be executed in a linear order, I try to keep the commands presented in a linear order within the same function.  Along with this I avoid complicate macros or inline functions: if they'll be inlined anyways, there is no saving on resource use at run time, but only saving a few lines of code while sacrificing the ease of reading and understanding.
Also, if you have not found it yet, I highly recommend Christophe Tronche's Xlib guide.  I can't say I ever just read through it from start to finish (yet), but when I google any Xlib related function if there are any entries on tronche.com that is the first one (and then often the only one) I look at.
PS: there's nothing fancy about workspaces/desktops.  You just maintain a list of client windows on each desktop - or have "tags" associated with each client - then when the user changes desktops you just hide all windows that are not on that desktop/tag and show those that are.  Hiding can mean "unmapping" but I preferred an easier hack which I found the dwm authors also used: just move the window (XMoveWindow) off of the screen. Unmapping might even be problematic as it generates a set of events when unmapped and remapped.  This can be remedied and there may be good ways of doing this, but moving off screen works for me.

  • The best way to start with JDeveloper

Can anybody tell me what the best way is to start using JDeveloper? Besides Oracle Manuals, are there other ones? Thanks for responding!!

It would be nice if you can specify what is your background. Which tools/languages you used before?
If you don't know Java pick up a Java book that will teach you the basics and the syntax.
A good free online book is : http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/
Then use JDeveloper to do the code samples in the book.
Use this tutorial to understand the basic of the JDeveloper IDE:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/introide/introjdevide.htm
Then once you got the basics you should probably try out the ADF tutorial to see how you build a complete Web application that interacts with a database:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
This page also contains the ADF Developer Guide book.
In addition the JDeveloper home page has links to more demos tutorials and how-to's:

  • Inherited a Mess - Exchange - What is a good way to start over?

I inherited a mess of an Exchange 2013 Server (yes singular, not plural). Keeping the thing operational has been a nightmare. It is not virtual, it is physical. The hardware it resides on is way over taxed--it serves as a Domain Controller, as well as a dozen other things I'm too ashamed to admit. The mailboxes go to one massive database instead of being broken up into smaller ones. I'm at my whits ends and ready to say: "Screw it" and start over, which with our new network and server expansion I have an opportunity to do so.
Could someone point me in the right direction on what would be the best way to rebuild?
And no, between the amount of system corruption and my user-base, Office 365 is not an option.

  • Best way to start with Aperture, importing thousands of images at once?

I'm evaluating Aperture 2 on my MacBook for my DAM workflow going forward - right now I'm using the Bridge application paired with Photoshop and Adobe Camera RAW on my PC. I find the DAM and sorting functionality to be challenging/lacking/not intuitive for me under Bridge and I've been using it for years at work and home.
In taking a look at the trial of Aperture, I've tried the obvious thing of trying to import all images on my system under the Pictures directly, but it really doesn't like to do that. I know there are a few thousand in the JPEG directory and a few thousand in the RAW directory, but it still doesn't add up to the 10,000 limit (or was that 100,000?) that it complained about when I pulled up the program for the first time and simply tried to have it import the media on my entire hard drive.
I really don't like using Picassa, but I do like the fact that it found all the images on my hard drive for me, and allows me to do basic searches and image tweaks. There really should be a simple way for a photographer to set Aperture up with the existing (legacy? pre-Aperture?) image base which he's already collected. I have almost ten years worth of images that I want to go through and I seriously do not want to go through each and every day's worth of images (folder by folder) for ten years without some sort of automated process to go through them and pull them in.
Any ideas? Any plugins? I realize that, going forward, if I choose Aperture as my primary DAM and initial tweaker, as opposed to say Lightroom, I'll have the Automator tools to pull down images from my various cameras and place them into projects automatically.
Also, just wanted to mention that Aperture has crashed a few times on me and even, once, deleted my entire Picture library (even though it claimed in the message it would only delete the links to the images, not the images themselves). Luckily, I'm insane with my backups, and was able to restore to a point prior to the Aperture "catastrophe" in a few minutes...but still. I want to be able to trust my programs and it lost a few points there....
Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think what you're looking for is File >> Import >> Folders into a Project. The top level folder will be imported as a project, and sub folders will create albums within that Project.
With that many images, I would choose the option to keep the images in their current location. (Unless that location is a hard drive formatted FAT32.)
If you have side car files, most of the IPTC metadata will come along, but not ratings.
I don't recommend placing the whole thing into one big project. You can keep the organizational structure you have in the finder in your Aperture Library if you do a little planning.
All that being said, do it in chunks not all at once.

  • Best way to start with Jheadstart

    Well,
    I have another simple question,
Presently, I have Jheadstart and Jdeveloper running and I have made sample apps using the wizard interface which are great work done by Oracle.
Now, I am going to ground zero and need to start developing some of the customized screens in JSP or UIX(which one do you prefer from start?) and need to know where to start. Should I develop some of the customized screens using the templates and JSP/UIX files Jheadstart generates and customize them based on my needs? Wouldn't Jheadstart overwrite these screens if I customize them?
    1) Should we stay with the Model-View Controller ADF/Struts approach?
    2) Since we are starting from scratch, are we better off to just use UIX from scratch.
    3) Will Jheadstart write over our customized files?
Thank you for all your answers so far because I think we have something to look forward to.

I'd recommend this book and INE's videos. Also please note that Nexus is in the Data Center track, not the Service Provider.

  • Good way to start

    Hi all,
I am a new java programmer to web services. I am reading a book on it, but the code and the software used by it is a bit old.
Could anyone tell me where to start learning web services?
Any help and direction will be appreciated.
    Ta,
    /md.

A relatively new book is "SOA Using Java Web Services" by Mark D. Hansen
If you can wait until June I suppose "Delivering SOA Using the Java Enterprise Edition Platform" by B.V. Kumar, Prakash Narayan, and Tony Ng should be a good choice.

  • One Way Trust, Start with RWDC Then Go To RODC?

So, we have an internal network and a DMZ network in play here.  I'm attempting to setup a one way trust so resources on the DMZ network can be managed from the internal network.  Internal network has RWDCs in its domain, and the DMZ has its own
RWDCs in its own domain and a RODC from the internal network's domain.  The internal network's RODC is in its own site in AD and is confirmed to be communicating with the RWDCs in the internal network.  The RODC is not an authoritative DNS server,
but can host a secondary zone or stub zone.  The functional level of the internal domain is 08r2 and the DMZ domain is 2012r2, if that matters.
The task is to setup the one way trust, and its proving a bit difficult.  So far I've attempted both Conditional Forwarders or stub zones on the RODC and the DMZ RWDC, no dice.  There are no observed DNS replication problems within the domains
themselves and using ping and nslookup, I've confirmed that DNS resolution is working between the RODC and the DMZ RWDC.  When I try to create the trust from the DMZ RWDCs, it fails saying the specified domain cannot be contacted.   Based on what
I've read online in other posts and my inability to get around it, it seems that a trust requires a RWDC at each end to function.  If this is not the case, I would love to hear how it can be setup with a RWDC at one and and a RODC at the other.
Now, if its correct that the trust requires two RWDCs to setup, what if it was setup with two RWDCs and then one of the RWDCs was removed and replaced with a RODC?  I guess what I'm asking is does it just require a RWDC at each end to be setup, or does
it also require a RWDC at each end for the trust to function properly on an ongoing basis?

    Hi,
Sorry it takes me some time for testing and reply.
I've confirmed that it is fine to replace an RWDC to RODC after trusting is setup. You can set it in your environment.

  • PRI sizing? any good ratios to start with?

I know I should be going off Erlongs, and all that fun stuff.. but are their any industry standards for PRI sizing? For instance..
4 DIDs to 1 PRI Channel?
    Thanks

If you don't have the call data to perform Erlang calculations, you just need to take a SWAG, and adjust as needed. Ratios or rules of thumb are difficult because users are so different. An insurance sales office will need more trunks than a similar sized engineering firm.

    Hi There,
There are lots of options, but I have found the SAP NetWeaver online help to be a pretty comprehensive place to start. Here's the link for the NW7: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/43/05e44ad1cd6e95e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm.

    Remote Function Call:
RFC is an SAP interface protocol. Based on CPI-C, it considerably simplifies the programming of communication processes between systems.
RFCs enable you to call and execute predefined functions in a remote system - or even in the same system.
RFCs manage the communication process, parameter transfer and error handling.

    Regards.

  • What is the best file format to start with?

I have not quite figured out what is the best way and best tool (Photo
shop, Fireworks, Illustrator?) to optimize images to put on a web page?
I know that there is a "save for web" feature that is very useful.
But what I want to know is what is the best file to start with, to resize larger or smaller, and save for web,
and still get a clean and crisp looking Jpeg, png, or whatever?
I have a client who sends me EPS images to use for their logos. It is too big and I have to resize it.
Is this a good format to start with and to resize, or should I tell the client to send it to me in a different format?
They also send me huge raw photoshop files (with layers and all) that I have to put in a much smaller
placeholder..Again, is this a good file format to start with and resize and save for web?
and if so, which tool is best to use in this case to its reduce size this file and get optimal quality - Ps, Fw, or Ai??
or should I tell the client to send it to me in a different format?
what is the best format to start with, so I can tell clients to send me their images in that format?
if anyone can point me to some links or other place where I can find this information that will be great?
    thanks!!!

Photoshop and Fireworks can both create files (raster images) suitable for placing images on the web. Some people prefer one to the other. If your not doing editing then Fireworks is probably the tool geared most towards that goal. If you want to create vector graphics for use on the web, neither Photoshop nor Fireworks are suitable. Illustrator is the tool to use.
