Goofed-up main menu when reverting to KDE 4.4.5 from KDE 4.5

Last night I gave into temptation and installed KDE 4.5 from testing. Then this morning, I changed my mind and reverted to KDE 4.4.5. (Women do *not* have a monopoly on changing one's mind.)
My return to safety went well except for the fact that the main KDE menu (activated by the big K with the gear) now shows up as a series of colorful diagonal stripes with a big white space in the middle.
I had already restored my previous ~/.kde4, but, beyond that, I can't figure out what to do to get the menu to display properly.
Even when I launch kde as root, the menu looks like this, so I think the damage is perhaps more profound than user configuration files.
Thanks for any help!

~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu
Thanks. That config file does indeed govern at least the classic style K menu, and I guess it does the same for the kickoff style K menu. It's intact and it's doing its job for the classic style K menu. But when I switch to kickoff style, the menu still is completely empty -- though at least not distorted.
A real kmystery...
You could try making a backup copy of the entire menus folder and then log in again. You may want to do so while you're not logged in to KDE because I've known KDE to add things back that I delete (as far as configurations) upon logoff.
I recommend rebooting, and when KDM comes up press ALT+CTRL+F1, log in, and them back up and rename the menus folder, .kde4 folder, and .kde folder if it exists. When you log in you will get a completely fresh set up.

  • DVD not opening with main menu when loaded.

    I created a DVD with three short movies and three slide shows. I've made several similar type DVDs and they all open with the main menu when loaded. But in this case, when loaded in the player, it opens with the first movie, not the main menu.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Open Map View within iDvd. Is there a movie in the top / first box? If so, select it (one click) and hit the delete key. Now preview your iDvd. If it plays as expected (including the menu and buttons) then proceed with encoding and burning it to Verbatim dvd-r.

  • DVD doesn't return to main menu when reaches end - Why? How?

    My DVD plays through full movie and then essentially just stops at the end vs returning to the main menu. The menu button doesn't even return it at that point. What can I do to make it return to the main menu when it reaches the end?

    I'm having a similar issue...
    In all the previous projects I've created with iDVD, the movie always automatically returned to the DVD main menu at the very end of the presentation.
    On my current project using iDVD 6.0.2 (787), this is not occuring. At the end of the DVD presentation, the screen continues to stay black until the "stop" button is depressed.
    I'm obviously frustrated because I have looked everywhere in "iDVD Help" and within the on-line support discussions for an answer, but to no avail.
    I don't think that it's a DVD media issue because the problem occurs on iDVD when previewing (and obviously on the DVD media after burning).
    Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there a special command, tool, or secret handshake I need to provide in iMovie HD, or iDVD? Any insight is most appreciated.

    Then if you have tried all the browsers try connecting the system to yoour router with an Ethernet cable and turn WiFi off. If you have the same problem then it more then likely after your computer, Router or modem or connection from your ISP.
    If you get good browsing with the Ethernet cable then it is either the WiFi card in your Mac or the WiFi system in your router.

  • Want my DVDs to auto start with the main menu when inserted into a player

    I used idvd to burn an imovie that I made. I have a main menu theme from idvd on the project but when I insert the dvd into a dvd player or computer, the project automatically starts playing without going to the main menu first. How can I make it so it goes to the main menu first, allowing me the chance to click the button I made on the menu to play the project. THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!!

    By default, projects created with iDVD will always go to the menu screen first. If it doesn't that usually means you made a change to the iDVD map.
    To check, click on the "Map" button (Three small squares joined by a line at the bottom of the screen).
    Take a look at the far left menu square. If there is anything in this square it will play that square first before going to the menu.
    Click on that left hand square and tap the delete key to remove the auto-play item.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can someone tell me how to show a different main menu when someone is logged in?

    When a customer is logged in they can see secure pages. I also want a different menu to appear when logged in, and when logged out I want the menu to go back to normal. Can someone assist please? Let me know if you need more information from me. Thank you in advance!!

    I recommend referring to the following forum post on how to achieve this: Re: Secure Zone - show, hide, or disable content when a user is recognized as logged in.
    To summarize, you would need to use the module {module_isloggedin}  which will render a 0 or a 1 based on whether the customer is logged in or not. With a combination of CSS/JS, you can specify a different menu to display based on whether they're logged in or not.

  • Yoga 2 Pro when reverting back to Wi 8.1 from Win10 cant find monitors via ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock

    I upgraded to Windows 10 but my system was running too slow, unable to work. I then reverted back to Windows 8.1. Now that I am back to 8.1 I am unable to push my screen to 2 external monitors via the Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock as I did before. I can use the mouse & keyboard through the dock but its not seeing the monitors.
    I tried uninstalling the drivers then installing, but its telling me they are there. Could it be it thinks I am still in Windows 10 even though I am not??
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes - did you ever find a solution? I tried updating the Displaylink driver.

  • Why does my iDVD project skip the main menu screen when starting?

    I just finished a movie in iMovie 09, chose iDVD from the iMovie menu, chose a theme, etc., all was fine, burned the DVD and it works great except it starts the movie instantly rather than showing the opening screen with the main menu.

    When you export to iDVD from iMovie 09, iMovie usually creates an iDVD project in which your movie plays automatically before the main menu is shown. As SDUser has said, you can get rid of that behaviour by going into the DVD map and dragging out the very first item.
    A hint: if you have chapter markers in your movie, and you are using a theme that has motion menus, open up the Inspector (the little i button bottom left in iDVD) and while you are in the Map view click on each menu. Take a look at the length of the menu loop. There is a bug in iDVD that often causes it to make ridiculously long menu loops (in one case 3 hours, even though the menu music clip was 30 seconds and the whole movie was under an hour). That will cause iDVD to take forever rendering your project, and will waste a lot of DVD space that you are need for your main movie. Just drag the slider back to a sensible menu loop length. But go back and check before you burn; as soon as you edit anything else in the menu (for example change the music background) the loop length will have to be fixed again.

  • IPhone freezes - when on a call, I can't get to main menu.

    When I receive a call and answer it, after the screen goes black(still on the call).. I cannot access the main menu when I hit the home button. So if another call comes in, I can't see it on the phone. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so how did you fix it?
    This has been happening since day 1, I have tried resetting the settings, the only thing I have not done is do a complete restore. I had this issue before the 3.0 upgrade ad after.

    Step through the program and think about what each line is doing. Most importantly:

                draw(getGraphics());

                }catch(InterruptedException ie){}
            gotoMainMenu(getGraphics());
        }This says that while the game is being played, update( ), then draw( ). When the game is over, call gotoMainMenu( ).
       private void gotoMainMenu(Graphics graphics) {
            //do a bunch of graphics stuff
            int keyState = getKeyStates();
            if ( (keyState & FIRE_PRESSED) != 0 ){
                System.out.println("game start");
                gameOverState = false;
        }This says to do a bunch of graphics stuff, and then to check the key states. If fire is being pressed, print something out and set gameOverState to false. This check only happens once. When the state is being checked, most likely the user will not be pressing any keys, so the code is done.
    Also, simply setting the gameOverState variable to false outside of the loop you use it in won't do anything. For example:
    boolean doLoop = true;
    int count = 0;
    while(doLoop){
       count++;
       if(count > 10){
          doLoop = false;
    doLoop = true;Would you expect that second doLoop = true to start the while loop over?

  • Linking to mulitple DVDs from main menu

    I'm doing my first DVDSP session. It's a wedding video. I'm including an edited video(24 minutes), photos, and then raw footage (roughly 3 hours). I have set up the main menu with edited video, photo, and then raw video options. When choosing raw video I want to be able to access chapters easily.
    I understand that this is too much footage for 1 dvd and could even be too much for two dvds. I also know that if it were only two dvds I could set up the format so that DVDSP thinks I'm using a two-sided dvd and then burn to two separate dvds. But if this is three dvds how do I set it up so that the program and menu know this?
    I'm thinking of the 4 dvd Lord of the Rings series where the main menu instructs you to insert the correct DVD when you choose an item not included on the inserted DVD (ie, "please insert DVD 4 now").
    For example if I'm in the first DVD with the main menu and submenus and want to skip to the chapter where the best man makes a drunken fool of himself on the dance floor, can I set DVDSP up so that I'm told to insert DVD 3 to view the content?

    Yes you can do that. I'm guessing though that the process won't be what you think. The function that you mention on the LOTR DVD isn't because the DVD "knows" where everything is. That works only by planning out what will be on each DVD and making what are essentially menus to refer the viewer to the disc that the content chosen is on. e.g. You use the same main menu for every disc, but on discs that don't actually contain that content you jump to a menu that says "content y is on disc x". That menu has 1 big button that jumps back to the main menu when selected.
    In my experience it's better to make each disc its own thing, but to add an "Other Programs (or something along those lines)" button on the main menu. This button links to a single this stuff (list) is on other disc menu that will communicate where the content is without infuriating a viewer who keep selecting things just to be told they're on three discs.
    Also... 3 hours of RAW FOOTAGE!? That's too much, and won't get watched, I promise. Cut it down and divide the rest into two sequences in FCP. You'll need two sequences so you have two MPEG 2s so you can put one on each disc. If you're wedding video spills onto 3 DVDs then you haven't cut enough and your bit rate is too high. When doing wedding videos I only ever went to 2 discs on long Catholic weddings.

  • Error message at loop point of main menu...

    Anyone ever get this message when building a DVD?
    http://www.reflexive-cinematics.com/miscimages/errormessage.jpg
    I keep getting this damn messages with Every adobe application. I was having tons of issues with encore 1.0 so I upgraded and bought 2.0. Now I'm having that error message.
    Does anyone know what the problem is? And by the way, I only get that message on the main menu when it tries to loop. The menu background video is 1:00:00 ( one minute ) and the loop point is 00:07:00 ( seven seconds ) with loop amount set to forever. I've changed it to other stuff to see, but I still get the message.
    I am able to burn the disc and everything works, except for the loop point at the main menu. The menu plays till it's duration and then instead of looping it ( in a DVD player ) just stops playback and ( during preview on my computer ) gives that above error message.... ' an abnormal condition has been detected. '
    fyi - my computer stats are this, in case anyone was needing to know:
    Pentium Prescott P4 3.0gHz
    2.5 GB's of DDR SDRAM
    nVidia Geforce FX5200 128MB vid card
    Creative sound blaster audigy ( with live drive )
    380 gig's of Hard Drive space

    Well nevermind. I seem to have fixed it. I just had to build a new project and re link everything. Seems that maybe the original project got all gunked up or something. It's working fine now.

  • Doesn't return to main menu after slideshow

    I put together some photos in iPhoto and then used the export to iDVD command to create a DVD of the slide show. I watched the slideshow all the way through in the preview mode in the iDVD app, and when the slideshow was finished, it went back to the main menu. Then I burned a DVD of it and put it in my home DVD player, and when it gets to the end of the slideshow it just stops and shows the screen on my TV like there is no DVD in the player - the blue screen with the DVD logo. I tried putting the DVD in my other computer and it returned to the main menu after the slideshow from the DVD, so the problem seems to just be with my Panasonic home DVD player.
    I also have a movie on there that I created in iMovie. When that plays on my home DVD player it returns to the main menu when it is finished.
    Any reason why this is doing this and what I can do about it? Since my internal DVD burner went bust, I'm using an external DVD burner, but I can't imagine that would have anything to do with it.
    Thanks.

    Okay, I figured it out. After much heartache and frustration I finally figured it out. I couldn't quite accept the fact that it may have been due to the type of DVD I was using - especially when you can't go out and buy just one blank DVD.
    Anyhow, after getting frustrated with iDVD, I decided to try putting the project together using DVD Studio Pro 3. What I noticed is that, when trying to build a slideshow, I couldn't use more than 99 photos. I actually had 101 photos in my slideshow. So, I went back to iDVD and took out 2 photos so that I had a total of 99 in the project. Then, when I played it in my home DVD player, it worked fine. It went back to the main menu after completing the slideshow.
    So, moral of the story is, in iDVD 6, you can't use more than 99 photos in your slideshow.

  • Main menu - weird menu call problem

    Here's how the DVD I'm currently building plays like this:
    Copyright warning -> Logo -> Teaser Trailers -> Main Menu
    When you finally arrive at the main menu, if you hit "Menu" on the remote is simply replays the teaser trailers again.
    Can anybody explain why it's doing this, and how I can stop it?

    As has been said - what you are seeing is the (quite normal) resume function. You can stop it from happening by either putting the teaser footage into a menu and not a track, then playing that menu instead, or by simply denying the user operation for the menu button when in the main menu.
    You do the latter by clicking on the main menu icon in the outline view, then look in the property inspector, and switch to the 'advanced' tab. In there, put a tick in the box next to 'Menu Call' and it will prevent any use of the menu button whilst in the menu.
    However, if you do this, be aware that the normal resume feature will be prevented - for example, if your viewer is in the main feature and presses menu, then uses the menu button again they will expect to go back to the main feature, but won't be able to.
