Goofy WRT54GX4 problem

I've got a WRT 54GX4 router. 4 computers running through it. 2 are wireless, running XP, and working fine. Other 2 are connected via Cat5. One works perfectly. The other however is new, and running Vista. I can connect to the internet (DSL)no problem, however my e-mail will not connect.
Now, if I bypass the router, my e-mail works just fine. My ISP is no help and claim it is a problem with the router, however, as I previously stated the other computers are working just fine. Am I missing something with Vista, or the router?

Try examining the firewall settings on the vista machine. I had an issue where everything was working fine except for email. turns out all my problems had to do with my firewall settings for my email client.

  • Linksys WRT54GX4 Problem

    Hey guys,
i recently just bought a new Wireless router the "Linksys WRT54GX4" and the "Linksys WMP54GR" for my desktop PC.
My problem is that it works sometimes and sometimes it just breaks down on me. My computer can "see" that there is a wireless network with a "very good" range, but I can't associate with the access point ( sometimes I can associate with the access point, but can't connect to the internet). I changed the channel from 6 to 11, since I read that channel 6 has trouble sometimes. I always have to push the reset button on the router to get back on the internet.
And by the way, do I have any advantage from the SRX400 with the WMP54GR? I was going to get the WMP54GX4, but for some reason I didn't.
So, can anyone help me? I mean, if the internet is working, it works just fine, range is amazing with 4 bars and the speed is fine, too.
If you guys need more information just ask me
Thank you guys for your help.
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • IDVD 4 Audio problems

My audio works just fine in both iMovie, and iDVD. When I play the DVD I burned the audio works just fine for the menus, and slideshows. After playing a movie for about 00:01:30 the audio cuts off for the rest of the movie. Any ideas?
    2.5 Ghz PowerPc G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Using iLife 04

There can be some goofy audio problems. One recommendation is to Extract the Audio from your problem clip while in iMovie and see if this makes a difference in the DVD. [this creates a separate sound file, which sometimes fixes audio problems]
The point where the audio stops -- is it the beginning of a clip? near a transition? or?

  • MultiCam In Viewer

    I'm back.
I have narrowed the goofy little problem down with my viewer.
When I am doing live editing of a multiclip from the timeline, there is either a steely-gray line in the render bar, or another color. Only the steely gray color will play the multi-clip in the viewer while I edit, all other colors, including the purple-gray color which I think indicates it's been rendered. With all the options checked on the render list, it still does not turn steely gray.
When mousing over the steely gray render bar, it says video:media, audio: media. The purple-gray color says video: rendered, audio: rendered.
    So I'm confused.
Any idea how I can unrender and keep everything a media file until I'm done with it so I can see what I'm doing?
    Thanks for all your help.
    I really appreciate it

On the other hand, I don't want to lose all that fine tuning I've already done to the attributes of my clips. I managed to fix the picture so that it actually looks good from three different places in the room with very uneven lighting.
Besides, my poor MBP is really maxed out, and right now I'm trying to see video clips and slides I'm superimposing (B-roll?) over the multiclip in the canvas. I have to render each section so I can see it play, and get the timing just right. I think I'm doing this all the hardest way possible.
Any suggestions for solving both issues?

  • WRT54GX4 has problem. Please read! Can solved? Not Tested from linksys?

Recently just bought WRT54GX4. I discovered that this wireless router from linksys did not cover the range that i want. Previously i own WRT54Gv5 which still is better can connect to internet until when i was in my garden. However, this router when i take my notebook just out of my room where the router is installed the wireless is disconnected. Had tried a few time by opening the properties by clicking the icon on the bottom right found out that. The SSID dissapear first then a few second later the connection broke. My position was just out side my room only. For those who have WRT54GX4 please let me know can this problem solved? It was worst than my WRT54G model which is cheaper.

Try setting the Adaptive Channel Expansion to disabled (Unless you happen to be using a WPC54GX4).  Also try channel 11 and change the SSID to some other than linksys.  Lastly, set the ACK mode to NO ACK and 802.11e/QoS to disabled.  These settings are found under "Applications and Gaming" -> "QoS"

  • Airport Linksys WRT54GX4 WPA TKIP problem-Driving me Crazy!

HELP! Anyone, My Boss bought a new Linksys Router WRT54GX4 and I cannot connect to it through my ibook. The old one(old router) was damaged and I was able to connect to it fine before it was broken. But the new one uses the WPA TKIP encryption, and my ibook cannot connect to it, it sees the network name and gives me severl WEP coices to connect to but no go. the Actual Network is the WPA TKIP, but I have tried severl different combination to connect to it and still nothing. I have tried the passphrase in uppercase and lowercase and nada. But most other PC's have no problem connecting except for my ibook. It sees other hotspots and connects fine. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a 12" iBook 800 Dual USB 32 MB Vram, 640 RAM and Orig Airport Card.

The linksys wrt54gx4 is not quite the same series as the earlier wrt54g routers. The new wrt54gx uses different firmware altogether. This router uses a new technology and employs 3 antenna's where as the earlier wrt54g's had 2 antennas.
It may be that this new technology is not working so well with apple airport cards as I have found the new linksys routers that have 3 antennas to be buggy. I have returned one to a reseller already.
In the wireless security settings of the wrt54gx4 it is possible to have wpa selected but not enabled.
I am not sure if the older airport cards support wpa2. I do know that the latest version airport does support wpa2. But for now try enabling wpa and disabling wpa2 on the linksys box as per this screen shot.
I will be switching to buffalo wifi routers as these new linksys boxes are
    a) buggy
    b) don't support linux

  • WRT54GX4 DNS problems.

Hello guys... I have my WRT54GX4 and I'm using this router as an Access Point only, I mean that I have other device that is making routing and is connected to the internet. Here is the problem, as you know when I configure a static IP address, I need to put also the DNS, I have no problem with that. When I'm applying under Advanced Routing RIP instead of NAT I can't browser the internet.
I'm seeing in the computers the ip address that the router is giving and also the DNS with no problem. I can ping the default gateway and also I can ping something on the internet but the real problem is that when I'm trying to ping using the DNS I can't and when I click nslookup under the CMD, the computer can't access the DNS. It looks that the router is not allowing the DNS requests or replies. I tried everything with the same problem. Do you have any update on this behavior or something like that.
    This is my topology:
INTERNET --- (DSL) --- ROUTER (CISCO ATM) --- LINKSYS (WRT54GX4)
                                                       |
                                                      +--- AP (CISCO)
The Cisco AP works fine, the Linksys not. I can be sure that the linksys is not allowing the DNS requests or the replies because I can see the DNS servers in the computers.
Thanks again team. Have a great one.

Connect the computer directly to the Router ... & see if you are able to go online or not ... if so then check the DNS numbers ... they should be same as you got under speed test ...
On the access Point as you are getting Ip address .... try upgrading the firmware of the Access Point ... once up graded .... reset & reconfigure the router ,,,,,

  • Goofy problem connecting

I have an iMac and a Powerbook, both runing 10.3.9. The Powerbook always connects fine with the base station, however I had a recent airport update on the iMac (it didn't show up for the powerbook)and have had a world of trouble with the iMac since.
The problem is when I wake the computer up form sleep mode. Sometimes it will automatically connect with the base staiotn with no problems. But most of the time it won't connect. I have to then manaully connect, but when I type in the user name and passord it tells me that the base station does not support the selected encryption method. So I click on try again. Ususally the window will pop back up and I click agian, and after aobut the 4th or 5th time it connects.
When I pull up the airport list in the menubar I can see my newighbor's network basestaion (a Linksys) and I can connect with it on the first time, every time.
So I know the card in the iMac is good, I know the basestation is good because the powerbook has no problems, and I have tried resetting the base staiton and reconfigureing it from scratch, but have the same problem. I have noticed since the update that the internet runs rather slow, however my Wife's Dell (I cringe just seeing that word) has a normal fast internet connection. Hers is connected to the ethernet port on the airport base station.
    What can I do?

  • WRT54GX4 Router Will Not Connect to More Than One Computer at a Time Wireless

I have a WRT54GX4 and cannot connect wirelessly with more than one laptop at a time.  Each laptop I have will connect if I disconnect the other one.  I have upgraded to 1.00.20 firmware and tried to find a setting for the router to address the problem without success.

double check on the mac addresses that you have saved so that your wireless computers can connect properly to your netwok, or you could just disable the mac filtering so that all of your computers can easily connect, just secure your wireless network

  • IMac will not get a good connection to Linksys WRT54GX4

I've seen similar reports as this, but nothing exactly like it, so I'm not sure if its the same problem or unrelated. I've got this Early 2006 20" Intel iMac. It will NOT connect correctly to my Linksys WRT54GX4 SRX400 Linksys router. It seems to work fine for a bit, but then I the connection deteriorates. I have a Macbook that has absolutely no problem.
The iMac connects to the network about 50 percent of the time. Sometimes it just says there's an error. When it does connect it works fine for a bit. The signal strength is great, and I can stream movies in iTunes to my Macbook. I don't know what causes it, but 15 minutes later or so, the signal strength is only showing 2 bars (the router is literally 20 feet away with no obstruction), and iTunes sharing of movies no longer works. This is crucial to my setup in my house, as I'm using the macbook as a faux AppleTV to watch movies on my TV that are stored on my iMac.
What's odd is that the macbook works perfectly from even further distances, as well as some of my roommates Windows PCs. And they work indefinitely. I noticed in the system profiler that the iMac and the Macbook have different Airport Card information. The iMac says it has Broadcom firmware, the Macbook just lists a version number.
Is Apple working on patching this?
If not, would I be able to get Apple to install a newer Airport Card in my iMac?

    Welcome to Discussions, MikeCP66!
You ask "Is Apple working on patching this?" to which the answer is that the patch has been successfully completed. It is AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 plus the 10.4.9 Update, and this appears to have corrected the wireless issues of most iMac users, both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo.
I'm assuming that along with your up-to-date OS 10.4.9, you also are up to date with iMac firmware (Boot ROM Version in System Profiler), SMC firmware (SMC Version), and with AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 recently installed.
I'm also assuming your Linksys firmware has been verified to be up to date. If you're uncertain about what I'm referring to in any of this, please ask. The Linksys and both Macs must all be set for using the exact same type of encryption, of course with the exact same network name and password.
If all the above is ok, power down your computers. Power down and disconnect your Linksys. After a minute, reconnect your Linksys and power it back up. Power your Macs back up and turn on AirPort in both, using the menu bar icons.
Open the iMac's Network panel of System Preferences. Change the "Show:" selector from "Network Status" to "AirPort" and also click "AirPort" in the menu bar of that pane.
Set the "By default, join:" selector to "Preferred networks" and delete ALL networks from the list. Click the "Apply Now" button at the bottom right, after which no name should appear in that list.
Click the "Options..." button, set the "If no preferred networks are found:" selector to "Keep looking for recent networks" and uncheck the box "Automatically add new networks to the preferred networks list."
Click the blue "OK" button, again click the "Apply Now" button, and close System Preferences. Restart the iMac. AirPort will still be turned on, it will see your correct network name, although it will not be connected to any network.
Open System Preferences to the Network panel and go to "Show: AirPort" and again to the "AirPort" pane. Click the little + box and in the drop-down box select your network's method of "Wireless Security" followed by entering the network name and password.
Click the blue "OK" button, then the "Apply Now" button at the bottom right.
Your iMac's AirPort icon should shortly darken, indicating a connection, and checking it AirPort should be connected to your network, and should stay connected the same as the MacBook's does.
If not, until proven otherwise, some speculation might be suggested to Apple that the AirPort Extreme card within the iMac is not properly connected.

  • HP MIni 110-1030nr - USB Problem!

    Hello!
I have 2 HP Mini 110-1030nr netbooks. Mine runs like a charm! I love it!
My dad's however is having major problems! For the first 2 weeks it ran great, but then the hard drive died in it. We sent it back to HP, they turned it around and had it back to us in less then 2 weeks! Great service!
But now, as we have been re-installing his software we have discovered the USB ports do not work right anymore. For example, my dad bought an external Samsung cd/dvd-rom drive. It just doesn't work right. It is unrecognized sometimes, or else it will show up but it can't see that a disc is inserted. Same goes for all USB devices... we attached an external WD Passport Hard Drive and it is not recognized either. The Hard Drive lights will light up momentarily and then just go dark. But when you disconnect the hard drive, Windows plays a little "disconnect sound" as if it knew it was there. Other times the hard drive will be recognized and work just fine, or it will work good for awhile then go dark.
Some items work fine on the USB ports... we have a little Verizon Pantech USB Data Modem, it seems to work good. And a little Sandisk 8GB USB thumb drive seems to work good consistently.
Could this be a power issue? Or something goofy on the mother board?
All these devices work 100% superb on my own HP mini, no hiccups at all. Need help! Need to know if I need to send this back to HP or if there is just a setting somewhere that I'm missing? I've tried going into the BIOS (F10) but there are hardly any options to change and none of them deal with USB.
    Thx!

figured out how to remove the hard drive. You remove the battery and there are 3 small phillips screws. Remove and put in a safe place. The screws hold three small metal tabs in place. With the screw removed, take a small flathead screwdriver and push the tabs up toward the keyboard carefully!!! This will lift the back edge of the keyboard nearest the lcd screen up in the air. Then turn the laptop over and grab the back edge of the key you just pushed up and pull it towards the keyboard and the keyboard will easily come off. Make sure to CAREFULLY remove the plastic ribbon connector from the connecctor and that exposes the harddrive. The rest is very obvious and simple. Reassemble in reverse order.

  • [Cisco ISE 1.2 with 3850 - Trunk AP] Problem with MAB

    Hi everyone,
After reading some documentation about using MAB in a trunk port with the 3850 I would like to know if someone has implemented ISE policies with a 3850 interface in trunk mode. My problem is that when I try using MAB in a trunk port the mac address of the AP it´s no visible in the "show mac address interface" and because of that the AP is not authenticated in ISE. The thing is that if I use a 2960 everything goes smoothly with no problems!

    BR,

I know what you mean and I agree with what you are saying :) Nonetheless, at the moment, the official stance from Cisco on this is that 802.1x is not supported on trunk ports. Now one can argue that MAB is different but I think we are just splitting hairs here :)
Like I said, I have gotten stuff to work before but always had some goofy things happening so in general I have stayed away from doing it.
Now in your situation, if your configuration is working fine on the 2960 but not on the 3850, then most likely the issue is with the XE code running on the 3850s. The XE code has been very problematic until recently so you are probably hitting some sort of a defect. As a result, I recommend that you upgrade the switch(es) to 3.3.5 or 3.6.1. Version 3.7.x is also out but it just came out 8 days ago so I would not recommend going to it.

  • Can't get Xbox Media Connect to work with WRT54GX4 router

My Xbox 360 and 2 computers all run through my WRT54GX4 router. They all use wired connections.
I can't get Media Connect to work so I can stream pics and videos through my Xbox.
I have the correct ports set up and enabled per Xbox instructions. but still no joy. When I go to the Media tab and select pictures, it will list my computer but when I try to select it, it fails to connect.
Note that when I go to Library, media sharing on my PC it does list the Xbox there and I have "allow" selected.
Is there a problem with this router and Media Connect? I am running the latest firmware.
    Thank you,
    - Chris

    Thanks DT for the reply!
As noted, my Xbox actually is connected wired, not wirelessly.
I have all the ports open, but I am unclear on whether the IP address I enter into my router here should be for the *host PC* (in my case IP *.101) or for the Xbox (*.103). The Xbox instructions aren't crystal clear here... they just say the ports must be open for your computer.
I've tried it both ways and neither works, but would like to know which is correct so I can give it another go.
    Thanks,
    -Chris
P.S. - I've also gone through MS tech support (phone) to no avail.

  • Slow VPN throughput speeds using WRT54GX4

I have a WRT54GX4 and am experiencing slow VPN throughput.
When I connect from my home network to my work network via my companies VPN client I've noticed that the throughput drops significantly.  Speed tests to DSL Reports are ~10500 kbit/s download and 950 kbit/s upload when going through the WRT54GX4 not using VPN, but only 250 kbit/s download and 95 kbit/s upload when I connect using my VPN client.
I have used the same laptop computer at various locations away from home and tested through my work VPN connection to DSL Reports and noted that the speeds don't change too much when I switch between direct and VPN.
Next I bypassed the WRT54GX4 router all together and connected directly to my cable modem at home and repeated the test.  This time the speed test using my VPN client was ~9950 kbit/s download and 850 kbit/s upload.
My company has several DS-3 connections that are load sharing and as mentioned above testing from other locations has shown that my office isn't the bottleneck.
    Everything points to the WRT54GX4.
Also, my previous router was an early Wireless-G Linksys router - forgot the model - and it did not slow down my VPN like this new one does.
The problem exists in either wired or wireless connection mode.
I recently upgraded with the latest firmware V 1.00.20 but that didn't help.
I have also tried various MTU sizes and auto but nope, no joy there.
By the way, we have both Cisco and Nortel VPN servers at work and I've tried each client on two separate host machines at home and both exhibit the same slow connection.
When I turn off the VPN client everything is great and my speeds are super.
    Any ideas?

    This may help significantly.
I have DSL, speed is 3 mb. I have a WRT54GS router. When I hardwired the connection from modem to laptop, speed was 3mb - ISP was doing it's job. Via wireless connection, speed dropped to 1 mb.
I spoke with Linksys and after some tweaks (upgrading Firmware etc ...) - they said that the drop was not unexpected and this is what I had to accept.
I spoke with my network specialist at work (I am in I.T. myself) and he thought that the router should not eat 2/3 of the speed. This was confirmed by the Geek Squad as well.
Combing through this forum, I came across an interesting article about some tweaks you can do with www.speedguide.net - they have an optimzing tool that has yielded the solution.
    Try this ...
    http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
This will download the tool. When you open this up you will see a number of tabs - the general tab yielded the most for me. You will see some radio buttons for current state and proposed state. When you choose apply you will see the registry settings that will be affected - a re-boot is necessary.
So after I did this, I noticed that my wireless speed was up to 2 mb - better but still only 2/3 of what I expected.
About an hour later I went to the basement, did a speedcheck ( www.speedtest.net ) - and I was getting 3 mb!! I went up to the kitchen and ... 3mb. I went to the access point and ... 3mb.
Bottom line: Re-boot helps - but it seems that there is some cycling involved ... so try a little later.

  • Binds in Master/Detail Reports: Problems and Solutions

I've been trying to use bind variables in the master report of master/detail reports with multiple detail reports; but, I've been getting a problem with the detail reports not displaying data.
Here's a sample sequence of events:
    1) Select the master/detail report under User Defined Reports.
    2) Connect to a DB (if necessary).
    3) Enter any value(s) for the bind(s) for the master report.
    4) Select a row in the master report.
    5) The currently selected detail report displays column names and data.
    6) Select a different detail report.
    7) Nothing displays except column names.
    8) Select a different detail report.
    9) Nothing displays except column names.
    10) Click the currently selected row in the master report.
    11) Now the current selected detail report displays (column names and) data.
I have found that if, I am more selective with my bind variable names, I can get things to work as expected.
First, let me show an example of some SQL that was giving me problems.
    Master Report:
    select distinct OWNER
    from SYS.ALL_OBJECTS
where (OWNER like :OWNER or :OWNER is NULL)
    Detail Reports:select *
    from SYS.ALL_OBJECTS
    where OWNER = :OWNER
and OBJECT_TYPE = 'INDEX'replacing 'INDEX' with other values for the other detail reports.
(I did have this problem with other SQL too but hopefully this SQL will run on everyone's DB.)
The first solution I found was to change the name of the bind in the master to something like OWNER_BIND.
The second solution I found was to change the master to
select distinct OWNER as POWNERand change the detail reports to
where OWNER = :POWNERAnother solution might be to adjust the bind variable names' case, but I didn't look at that.
While I was trying different things to get this to work, one of the goofy things that SQL Developer did was add <binds>s to the <query>s of the detail reports in my UserReports.xml. IIRC, it even did this to a master/detail report that I was not editing. So, if you run into this problem, you might want to open your UserReports.xml and clean it up by hand. (Actually, that might be good advice for other problems too.)
Tip: I've had other problems with my User Reports such as disappearing reports; so, not only do I regularly make copies my UserReports.xml, I also save report(s) into separate XML files and use Tools > Preferences... > Database > User Defined Extensions to add REPORT-type extensions to SQL Developer. (Kris Rice talked a bit about REPORT-type extensions in this blog entry: http://krisrice.blogspot.com/2006/11/xml-extension-points-reports.html)
FYI: I'm using sqldeveloper-1.1.2.2579 on Windows XP w/ SP2. The DB is Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production.

Here is the complete XML exported from a problem report. If you want to use this, save it as an XML file then import that file from within SQL Developer (ie, right-click on User Defined Reports and choose Import).
Notice that there are <binds>s on the detail reports. They don't belong there; only the one on the master report belongs. (The <binds> is specified by the Binds tab when creating a report. They are for prompting the user for value(s) and you cannot do that in child reports.) Even if I removed the <binds>s from the detail reports before importing the XML file, I still see the problem. SQL Developer also ends up putting them back. I think that it might happen to each detail report individually as it is visited when using (ie, not editing) the master/detail report.
