Google Analytics url additions persisting in redirects - causing issues

Hello,
We're having a bit of an issue regarding Google Analytics url parameters being passed through redirects to third party sites, this is causing some of them not to resolve correctly.
When we send email newsletters through Eloqua the links in the newsletter are replaced by something like
http://eloquasubdomain.com/e/er?utm_campaign=houre_102513.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=2636&lid=28386&elq=90149dcce3454e94aaaba60dd6e1b354
they go to Eloqua and have url parameters for both Google Analytics and Eloqua.
However, then, Eloqua redirects to an address like this: http://www.example.com/?utm_campaign=houre_102513.html&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua
This includes our google analytics url parameters into a query for a third party (our advertising client's) site. Sometimes this makes the third party site not load as intended depending on the client's website.

Were you able to find how to work around this issue?
Nadine

    Hello Karen.
    Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
    As for your issue, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
    Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
    If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
    If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there.

  • Problem with redirection and google analytics

    Hello,
    I created my professional website with iweb and bought a domain name for it can be simplest to remember, so this professional domain name (www.julienchabot.com) redirect to the iweb url (web.mac.com/julienchabot/iweb/com/home.html). Now I subscribed to Google Analytics to know the statistics of my website, but it seems that when people visit www.julienchabot.com, google analytics doesn't register any visit on my website, it only registers something when the iweb url (web.mac.com/julienchabot...) is visited, so only when I visit my website as a webmaster because I'm the only one to know this url.
    So it's very frustrating for I can't know the statistics even if Google analytics seems to provide fantastics results !!!
    However, when we're on julienchabot.com and that we read the source code, the correct code and iweb url appear on the top of the window... Does the problem come from the redirection company I subscribed to ?
    Has someone a solution to this problem ?
    Thank you very much for your help !!
    Julien

    Dear Gretsch,
    Thank you for this website, I just registered but unfortunately the problem is still the same ! I think it's due to the redirect company I subscribed to, they use "frames" for the redirection.
    Do you use frames as well for your website ? StatCounter asks if it's the case before providing the code and I replied "yes", they specify to put the code in the main page where there's not the "frame" code, but I don't know where this "frame" code is written, so I put the StatCounter code on the homepage one, but it's the same than with Google.
    Would you mind provide me the url of your website for I can compare your code to mine ?
    Thank you very much for your help !

  • Flash Player 10 causing a Google Analytics Admin Problem

    Since I upgraded to Flash Play 10, inside the admin of Google Analytics is not working.  When I log in to Google Analytics, Flash Play 10 is a part of adjusting the dates and it is causing some type of error that I can't figure out.  All I want to do is be able to adjust dates within Google Analytics and I can't.
    It happens in the three different browsers FireFox, IE and Chrome.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling an older version but it still isn't working.
    The reason I believe it is the flash play is because when I open the date section in Analytics I can right click and it give me the option of 'About Adobe Flash Player" and shortly after updating I opened analytics and my browser crashed.
    I am going to uninstall my browsers to see if that will work but if anyone else has had this problem and solved it please help me out.
    Thanks

    Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Yes that does help in many cases. Sometimes updating the device drivers also.
    The hardware acceleration sometimes can't be used by every system. You can read about the system requirements and what and how it works here:

  • Show search term in URL (for google analytics)

    Hi there,
    I was hoping someone might have advice for a newbie question.
    When someone searches on our website we'd love to know WHAT they are searching on
    (this would allow us to create more products based on searches - e.g if lots of people are searching for Red then we'll create more Red products..)
    Our website is: http://www.angelaromatics.com.au
    The search url is currently coming up as: http://www.angelaromatics.com.au/Default.aspx?A=ProductSearch&ID=/search-results&SE=True
    Our search section is set up as:
    [code]
    <form name="catsearchform5878" action="/Default.aspx?A=ProductSearch&amp;ID=/search-results&amp;SE=True" method="post" class="search">
        <input type="text" name="CAT_ProductSearch" class="entry_form" placeholder="Search our products here..." />
        <button type="submit">Submit</button>
    </form>
    [/code]
    Is there anyway to get into the URL the query / search term (so google analytics will list it in results)?
    I'd love any advice

    consider the query result (short description) as a string (say String S1). Use string tokenizer and get each word as a token. consider your search query(eg: cold) as another string (say string S2). check for each token if it is equal to your string S2, show it as bold(using <b>) else print it as it is.
    I hope this helps.

  • WTF Is Google Analytics and why is it hangin up Firefox?

    On almost every site i visit recently the page will load for a second and then get redirected to a page that never loads. At the bottom of the browser is a message "waiting for google analytics. Has google gone mad? Had firefox gone off the deep end. This is the most annoying thing I have every encountered with firefox AND THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY of things in the past to annoy me. Ive adjusted cookies I have done private browsing im at my wits end. WHY IS IT DOING THIS?
    == URL of affected sites ==
    http://

    See this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Analytics
    I just block that domain using NoScript. I don't care one way or another if websites collect statistics about my visits, but when that service noticeably slows web page loading for me it gets blocked. If they don't have enough servers or can't load balance their servers better to not cause slow downs, eff um - I will block that domain.
    As far as being re-directed, I have no ideas about that issue.

  • How can I redirect a URL with aliases or redirect?

    Hi all,
    I have this partially working on my servers, but am not 100% sure I am doing this corerectly.
    Basically I have a Web site domain, let's call it product.com
    In server admin I have a site set up called www.product.com under port 80 and another under port 443 for my SSL pages.
    Here is my problem: If a customer types "product.com" in their favorite Web browser address bar, I would very much like the server to automatically redirect them (if that's the correct term) to "www.product.com"   Currently they would end up on http://product.com/index.html when they key in the URL without the "www"  I am concerned this is hurting my SEO and Google analytics as well as being an issue internally for PHP pages that are coded to the "www" addresses.
    I also have a sign-in page for my clients at the address: http://www.product.com/lib/app/auth/authenticate.php.  When a client types "signin.product.com" I want them to go to that long URL for the sign-in page.  I have gotten this to work by setting up a new Site in Server Admin > Web > Sites named "signin.product.com" which then has a single entry on the redirect tab with the URL of the signin page above.  Not sure if that could have been done on the core Web site (www.product.com) or if that was the way I should do it under Server Admin or if there is an easier way to do it.
    Primarily I want to be able to handle redirecting any type of subdomain "xxx.product.com" to another address.  The primary one I want to deal with now is the "product.com" redirecting to "www.product.com".....  Should I just set up another Web site in Server Admin with a redirect like I did for "signin.product.com"?
    Any advice on doing proper redirection appreciated.
    -- Jon

    There are so many ways you could do this. You need to pick what's right for you.
    Some of the options are available through the GUI. Many more are available once you get under the hood and drive Apache directly. Your skill and comfort level will undoubtedly influence which path you take.
    At the first level, Apache groups sites together by the hostname used to access the site.
    If you want 'www.product.com' to go to the same place as product.com you could create one site with an alias, so that Apache uses the same 'site' configuration for both hostnames.
    If you want the two hostnames to do different things then you could create two sites - in this case 'www.product.com' has the full, normal site and 'product.com' has a redirect to the equivalent page on 'www.product.com'.
    Within www.product.com you can also setup selective redirects to the HTTPS site. This will ensure that things like the login form are accessed securely. In this way your HTTPS site is another 'site' in Apache with the SSL configuration.
    One caveat in your post is the use of 'signin.company.com'. You don't describe your network, but if you have only 1 public IP address then this is going to be an issue since you cannot easily run multiple SSL sites on a single IP address - you'll need a different public IP address for each SSL site. This is because the SSL negotiation occurs before Apache knows what site the request is for, and therefore it doesn't know which SSL certificate to use for the connection.
    So, in general, you'll create one site for each variation in your web setup - one for 'www.product.com/port 80', one for 'www.product.com/port 443', one for 'product.com/80' (which redirects to 'www.product.com'), and so on.

  • Latest version of Firefox is having problems loading sites, it tries to load to Google Analytics. No error messages, just a page that won't load. How do I stop this?

    Latest version of Firefox is having problems loading some sites, it tries to load and then gets taken over trying to load Google Analytics. No error messages, just a page that won't load. How do I get rid of this, it is a "pain in the neck"
    == URL of affected sites ==
    http://

    I just spent 3 days with this issue as well. I finally fixed it by reluctantly adding yet another add-on called ADBLOCK
    I was able to selectively block google-analytics. Now pages that weren't loading before are now loading.
    eg vimeo.com starbucks.com & other random sites.
    This was a tough one to fix because there is NO ERROR MESSAGE..page just shows it's loading...forever..& the bottom of my browser says 'waiting for google analytics'. I finally figured out google analytics is the culprit. Ironically, some help pages in trying to find a fix wouldn't load for me due to google analytics arghhh!
    Im on a macbookpro & Safari worked fine for these same sites. It was just Firefox. I nearly switched back to Safari because of this stupid issue.
    I'm wondering if this was caused by recent firefox 'updates'...

  • Why are my tabs being re-directed to google-analytics?

    It seems when I open a tab, in the lower left of my screen is a message "waiting on google-analytics" and the page never opens

    http://www.fool.com

    Is it only on this site that you have this problem? If it is, then it is probably a problem with that website and you should try to contact them about the problem so they can get it fixed.
    Also, have you recently installed any addons that might block Google-anilitics? For example Ghostery does this and might cause a problem.

  • Google Analytics on Spry Tabbed Panels

    I have created a website where I am using a few main html pages and have vertical Spry Tabbed panels for sections of information within most of the pages.  I wish to track the clicks on the vertical Tabbed panels, but I am not having much luck implementing it.  I could probably figure it out if I saw an example somewhere.  I have also implemented a "back button" feature (thanks to Arnout Kazemier!) and clicking to go directly to a tab on a page using the SpryUtils into the default tab option for Spry Tabbed Panels.  The Google Analytics web pages have information on gadget tracking, and one on tracking AJAX,  and one on using the newer asynchronous tracking (which is supposed to be better for Ajax, etc).   I have tried to implement asynchronous tracking along with the "Tracking AJAX" recommendation by Google with no information being posted in a couple of days.
    My website page where I have tried to implement it is here:
    http://www.phostech.com/opt_con_v2.html
    I have also seen examples where a counter is used just to count, but I would like the information on which pages were clicked.
    I would rather not do this using the event tracking (but if that's the only way I'm OK), partly because the event tracking would be separate from the page tracking and the other features woudn't be as useful (exit page, sorting based on content, etc.).
    I am not a great programmer, but I could probably manage it I saw an example close enough to what I need.
    If anyone has any ideas, solutions, implemented examples that could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    I have checked out your page using Firefox, firebug net panel that monitors requests from and to your page. And i do see a successful call to the google servers. But I also noticed a JavaScript error on your page caused by these lines of code:
      http_request.onreadystatechange = sendAlert;
           http_request.open('GET', url, true);
           http_request.send(null);
    You might want to remove those.

  • "google-analytics" virus?  Malware? Help!

    When I'm online, I am unable to load certain sites (vimeo among others) or have difficulty loading some sites because "google-analytics" appears to slow things down. It also often opens a new window to "results.gugle.com" that redirects to another site (even though my pop-up blocker is on). I read elsewhere that the best solution was to restart and re-set my password for my router, but I have done that, and nothing has changed. Please help.

    HI,
    There are no Mac viruses and it's not malware. Repairing disk permissions, uninstalling then reinstalling Flash, using OpenDNS... and possibly removing you ad blocker
    should make a difference.
    Uninstall then reinstall the newest version of Flash.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash 10.1
    Now repair disk permissions...
    Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    Also, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences, select the Security tab. Click Show Cookies. Delete the cookies related to the sites you have trouble accessing. Relaunch Safari.
    You can avoid redirects by using Open DNS - Free/Basic
    And your ad blocker may be causing incompatibility issues after updating to Safari 5. Check the vendor site for help to uninstall it. Relaunch Safari.

  • Techie Question about iWeb, outbound links, and Google Analytics

    Hi,
    I have a kind of pretty technical question about using Google Analytics (GA) with iWeb sites to measure clicks on outbound links. Here's the setup:
    1) My website's online, and GA is working properly.
    2) I don't sell stuff directly, but I do have a "Purchase" page which contains a link to a specific Amazon page.
    3) I'm pretty sure I can measure how many people go to the Purchase page using GA, but how do I measure whether visitors click on the Amazon link? It would be interesting to me to be able to gauge what the conversion rate is; that is, how many people actually proceed to purchase the product at Amazon.
    I've checked the GA instructions and there's a page about manually tracking clicks on outbound links but it requires some code inputting. I know zero about coding, but I'm pretty sure that in iWeb you can't get access to the source code to input the required code.
    Am I wrong about this? And if I am, then does anyone here know how to measure the clickthrough rate?
    Anyway, hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

    I don't know about the link tracking but you could have the link take you to a redirect page which automatically sends them to Amazon.com after a preset time, 0 seconds to whatever you'd like. You can put a counter on that redirect page, like StatCounter. StatCounter can tell you how many, from where they came, i.e country and area, repeat visits, etc.
    Tutorials #12 & #13 describe how to put a visible counter on a page but with a redirect page you wouldn't have to bother since it wouldn't be seen. You can get all of your information from your account on the StatCounter site.
    The redirect page would be a simple plain text page titled redirect.html and would look like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0; Destination URL">
    <title>Redirecting or whatever you'd like to appear at the top of the browser</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    0 Is the number of seconds to wait before redirecting the visitor. If set to zero the visitor would not know they were being redirected. Replace Destination URL with the Amazon URL you want them to go to.

  • Enabling Google Analytics Mountain Lion Server

    Hi everyone,
    I just recently configured my first Mac server for a public school I'm working in. After setting up the Wiki server I was shocked there wasn't a way to enable Google Analytics, or any javascript for that matter. After a little poking around, I found a way to enable Google Analytics across all pages, Wiki, Home, My Page, etc.
    Terminal command in BLUE
    HTML comments in GREEN
    1. Log into your Google Analytics account and copy your embed code.
    2. Open the terminal and type: (I use nano, but you should be able to use your favorite text editor)
    sudo nano /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/app/v iews/layouts/application.html.erb
    3. You can add the script anywhere between the <head></head> tags. I chose to add it right below this section:
    <!-- [START] Script plugins -->
    <!-- [END] -->
    4. Create comments to start and end the Google Analytic section (optional) and paste your embed code. It should look something like this:
    <!-- [START] Script plugins -->
    <!-- [END] -->
    <!-- [START] Google Analytics Plugin -->
    <script type="text/javascript">
      var _gaq = _gaq || [];
      _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-X']);
      _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);
      (function() {
        var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
        ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
        var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
    </script>
    <!-- [END] -->
    <!-- [START] View additions -->
    <!-- [END] -->
    5. Save and close the file
    6. I restarted the Wiki server, but I'm pretty sure it's not necessary.
    7. Now all your pages should have Google Analytics embedded. Load one of your pages and check the source to make sure.
    Enjoy!
    P.S. While I was in the application.html.erb file I added my own custom .js to the <!-- [START] Script plugins --> section to look like this:
    <!-- [START] Script plugins -->
    <script src="/wiki/javascripts/custom.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <!-- [END] -->
    I then included my custom.js file in /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/publi c/javascripts
    The js is loaded fine, but right now you can't embed any js events into the wiki. If I add 'onlick' or 'onload' to an HTML element in the Wiki editor, it gets removed when you click "Save". Trying to find a workaround now.

    Well no, Google doesn't solve all problems, but its a great place to start.
    As far as your issue goes, you need to provide more details before anyone could begin to guess, as we're not mind readers here.
    What do you mean by "Windows only sees the router, not the server"?  What does "sees" mean in this context?
    Who / what is Windows proofs?
    How are you trying to access the server?  SMB file sharing?  If so, how are you trying to connect?  What happens when you try?  Do the users trying to authenticate to the server have an account on it and access to the necessary services?
