Google cookies cannot be blocked in Safari?

When using OS 10.5 or higher and Safari, google cookies cannot be deleted.
Google cookies show up when privacy setting is set to block cookies.
Google cookies reappear minutes later after they are deleted and privacy set to block cookies.
Google cookies reappear even after cookies.plist file is deleted.
This is not a problem when using OS 10.4 or earlier versions.
This is not a problem when using Firefox.
Is there a fix to this problem other than switching to Firefox as the primary browser?

If doing so improved the situation, this confirms that one of Safari's database files has become corrupt.
The blacklists from Google’s Safe Browsing Initiative (where Safari checks for 'fraudulent websites') are contained in a database cache file called SafeBrowsing.db - the file was created when you first launched Safari, and if you have the browser open, the file is modified approximately every 30 minutes.
In other words it is part of Safari's (version 3.2 onwards) anti-phishing security feature.
As an alternative to turning off 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website', which will lose you that important security feature, you should delete that database file, (but first close Safari):
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari (this is a folder)/SafeBrowsing.db
(This location may vary depending on your OS)
It will be recreated next time you open Safari, and will then start again collecting details of dodgy websites.

  • Cookies cannot be blocked in 10.6.8

Hi since updating to 10.6.8 with latest patch and Safari 5.1 Cookies are always installed despite being set to Block Cookies "Always". This is extremely worrying, as I distrust cookies for privacy and security reasons. Anyone else got this problem? Tried trashing Cookies PList to no effect. Will swop to the inferior Firefox until this security issue is fixed.

I had similar problems, and fixed it this morning.
You may wish to try the approach I posted elsewhere, to revert to 5.05 -  if you have Time Machine.  You can still download 5.0.5 from the Apple site if you don't have it elsewhere.

If you don't have 5.0.5 backup on TM, you can get it here:

    Good luck!

  • Now getting Google cookies even when "always block" is chosen

Since the last update, I now get Google cookies even when "always block" might be chosen in preferences. I realize I might still get cache under that setting, but I should not get anyone's cookie. I keep fewer than 20 essential cookies and always delete all other cookies I can get from visiting sites.  (would you believe one site I visited dumped over 60 cache and cookies on me just by visiting a single home page?)
Is Google doing evil things and bypassing no cookie preferences yet AGAIN?

    Hi ..
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You may have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.
If nothing above has helped, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • I cannot open facebook in safari it is coming up with cannot connect to server. I can open all other websites though. I have reset cookies

I cannot open facebook in safari it is coming up with cannot connect to server. I can open all other websites though. I have reset cookies & history and hard reset a number of times. I can open other websites no problems.
    Any help appreciated.

You cleared cookies and data in Settings>Safari? Did you close Safari as well before you reset the iPad? Double tap the home button and drag the Safari thumbnail up to the top of the screen to close it.

  • TS1966 I cannot play video on safari but works fine on google chrome?  What do i need to do to fix it?

I cannot play video on safari but works fine on google chrome?  What do i need to do to fix it?

If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
Try uninstalling the currently installled Flash plugin (required for most YouTube content) then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches

  • Why is Google no longer working properly in Safari?

I have Google for business (I think that is what it is called...they keep changing the name).  About two weeks ago, it started stopped working properly in Safari.  My left column of mail boxes often disappear and the pain with the emails in it either doesn’t show up properly or doesn't scroll.  Is anyone else having this problem?  If so, how do you solve it?
    I have Safari 7.0.1.
    Thank you,
    Ian

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
*check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
*Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

  • Popups not blocked on Safari..? pop-ups June 2007

    Hi everyone,
On Safari, I have popups blocked and on Private Browsing, this eve I did a Gooogle Search, in the results, I clicked on the 'cache' part, encyclopedia something etc .com, and I got a popup Window: 'Notice: your computer has tracks of all.... etc, Would you like to Install "DriveCleaner to" .
I had 2 Safari Windows open, generic sites, Craigs and the 'Cache' google search wouldn't load. The comp was 'stuck' (not using the word frozen), to avoid the popup, I had to force Quit applications, then I reset Safari, (there was a cookie in there for drivecleaner .com)
This is June 07', I haven't seen popup post's on this forum since December, anyone else have this problem?, Seeking idea's so it NEVER happens again...
P.S. I didn't get a window up from apple, to describe what I was doing when this happened, (I've had 1 0f those in a year and a half), Thanks

I am having the same problems even though I have popups blocked on Safari. I am getting popups from drivecleaner and errorprotector. I was also 'stuck' where nothing worked except to cancel or agree to drivecleaner.
The same with errorprotector, except when I clicked on cancel, another popup opened still not allowing me to do anything other than to cancel or agree. When I clicked cancel to that, a window opened and that window tried to download something on my system. Force quit didn't even work, I had to manually shut the computer off. This has happened 5 times this week already.
I also didn't get a window from Apple so I could report the problem.
Has anyone found an effective way around this problem yet?????
Edit: I didn't know whether to post a new question or make a post here since I am having the same problem. Sorry if I did it wrong.

  • Google Reader Errors in 64-bit Safari 4.0.3

Since the update to Snow Leopard and moving to a 64-bit version of Safari (Version 4.0.3 (6531.9)), I have been experiencing a script error in GOOGLE READER (http://www.google.com/reader/).
After several minutes of browsing, I receive an error message stating "Oops…an error occurred. Please try again in a few seconds." After the error, I can view currently loaded content, but attempts to view any additional content results in an empty folder and the following error: " "The feed being requested cannot be found." As a result, I am logged out of Google Reader and must log-in again. Interestingly, I am only logged out at the Google Reader site and can access other Google web properties without logging in.
I do not experience this error using Camino or FF, only Safari.
I've tried emptying the browser cache, restarting Safari and even resetting Safari. I've even tried using a secure page (https) instead of the traditional Google Reader URL. None of these have any effect. Error seems to be specific only to Google Reader on 64-bit Safari.
    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

"The feed being requested cannot be found."
If it happens in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode, but not another browser, that would seem to implicate the HTML and/or JavaScript being used by Google Reader is somehow incompatible with Safari, so it's not a Safari or Snow Leopard issue, unless you didn't have this same problem with the same feed in a previous version of Safari.
I note from your signature that you are using an older version of OSX.
Yes, but that makes no difference. Safari 4 is Safari 4, regardles of which version of the OS it's running on.

  • My google changed default language after updating safari

I recently updated the safari software on my macbook. As I live in New Zealand I use google.co.nz however after updating safari, the default country has changed to the Netherlands (I'm guessing as it's hard to tell as everything is written in another language). Any time that I go on a google related page or service such as blogger, or using the google toolbar in safari it automatically uses the Netherlands version now, which is really annoying as I have no idea what it is saying, and I really need to go back to using english. Is there any way that I can change this? I tried looking up help on the google help page but it doesn't display those pages in english either which isn't very helpful.

Thanks Neville for that quick response.
I setup my Mac in English and I only have the languages English and German selected in System Preferences - Language & Text - Language (I am on OS X Mountain Lion).
Within Safari 6.0 the reset dialog sligthly changed and mine looks now like:
    Safari's help states that:
    Remove all website data:
Removes cookies, tracking information, and other data that websites stored on your computer.
So that's why I did not select 'Remove all website data' (although I would love to).
But nevertheless all that did not help and my Google search within Safari still defaults to 'French' :-(

  • Cannot use Facebook with Safari 5

    Hi,
    I've had problems using facebook since upgrading to Safari 5.0 and 5.0.1 on my work computer;
    - cannot log out of facebook (stuck on logout.php)
    - cannot post comments (writing post and clicking button does nothing)
    - cannot change status (same as above)
    I already tried:
    - resetting Safari
    - erasing all cookies
    - deleting all cache
    - reinstalling safari
    - disable all inputmanagers and extensions
i do not have these problems on my home computer's (MBP) Safari.
Is there any way to completely wipe out Safari and cleanly reinstall it?
    help appreciated.
    Daniel

    Hi,
    Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities)
    Select Passwords on the left.
    Delete the Facebook keychain.
Relaunch Safari. Login to Facebook. Enter your user name and password. Whenprompted, click Yes.
    Hope this helps.

Updated my ipad 2 to ios 7.1, I cannot delete no more safari browsing history, can anyone help me?

    Hello, Robertofromfo.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like you may have Private Browsing enabled.  The article below will show you how to disable this feature.
    iOS: Safari web settings

You can also attempt to clear your history via the steps below.
Follow these steps to clear information from your device:
To clear your history from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Clear History.
To clear all cookies from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data.
To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.
    Cheers,
    Jason H.

  • How do I make sure my Mac doesn't have Google cookies even after utilizing Firefox preference tools?

Last week for a short time Firefox was requiring me to enable third party cookies when visiting sites that previously didn't require 3rd party cookies. I contacted the sites and they never required 3rd party cookies to be enabled. I did detect and delete a Google cookie through Firefox preference/privacy routines.
Was there an interim release that fixed this in Firefox since I'm not required to enable 3rd party cookies? Can I be confident that I don't have undetected Google cookies in my Mac?
    Thanks,
    Tim S.

Google made some changes to their website last week, which were reverted a few days later.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.
