Google freezes firefox

I bought a new laptop its an Asus V550C with windows 8 64bit. Ever since I installed Firefox I have had an issue when I use Google. When I go to type in the search box I can get maybe 4 letters in and it will freeze up (Firefox will display "not responding). I have to leave it alone for 10-20 seconds then it will come back but it is a constant problem. It will then usually follow with a script error message asking me to "continue or stop script". I know the description is vague any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a constant problem it happens literally every time I use Google. If it makes a difference it will freeze the minute the search suggestions show up after I type even after it comes back when I continue to type it will usually freeze again before I can actually complete the search. This is an extremely annoying and frustrating problem. I figured this would be the best place to look for answers. Thanks a lot in advance any help at all is greatly appreciated. -Matt

Hi Matt!
You might want to try [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yesscript/ YesScript]. YesScript lets you make a blacklist of sites to not run javascript. Most sites will still function with scripts disabled.
Another suggestion would be an add-on/extension causing these ''unresponsive script'' errors. In order to be able to find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the ''Help'' menu and select ''Troubleshooting Information'' from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select ''Troubleshooting Information'' from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article [[Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues]].
Let me know how this goes.

  • I've switched from Google to Firefox because I was so tired of Google crashed all the time. Now I have the same problem with Firefox, Bank id, file down

    Hej!
I've switched from Google to Firefox because I was so tired of Google crashed all the time. Now I have the same problem with Firefox, Bank id, file downloading, accessing Web pages, none of it works. What is the error?
    Ronnie.

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment and displays the Mozilla Crash Reporter. Are you seeing that, or is Firefox just freezing and you're killing it?
Assuming you have crashes, you can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "[[Firefox Crashes]]" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash report IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.
If that's not possible, have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

  • Flash stops working and freezes firefox. I have Fast dial and dont want to lose it so what can I do to fix this?

It doesnt matter what site or what I am doing it will come up randomly and freeze firefox then finally a box pops up and says Flash is busy or not responding continue or stop plugin. Naturally I stop plugin. I always install the latest flash versions I have even uninstall and reinstalled flash and downgraded and still no change or it bugs me to update. I am using firefox 26.0 I usually stay away from the betas if all possible. My biggest worry with using the reset firefox or making a new profile is my fast dial I have tons of sites right there waiting for me to click on and im afraid if I do all this I will lose it. But I have used same profile for years and years so maybe its time. I will just have to redo my fast dial I guess Unless someone can come up with another way to do it. I have disabled hardware acceleration on firefox I have to it makes my browser do some weird things. I also have disabled Hardware acceleration in flash as well. I have cleant temp files and registry. I am good with computers but have never seen issues like this with flash. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like you have done a lot. Have you tried to make a new profile for TESTING purposes only? You could have a bad profile. it is possible.
Also, have you tried protect mode for flash? I wrote up a bat file to set it up so you don't have to go digging through system files.
Also i have some unorthodox methods you will not see in these forums to try out if you are interested as they have resolved several peoples that i can confirm issue. I have been going crash free for over 6 months now since i implemented. Believe me some issues nothing in these forums will resolve. Click on my name on the left there is a blog i created just for this issue with all the info and some of the fixes. Everything is fully automated. Very little user interaction.
This will NOT work for everyone, but you cant hurt by trying
    Best regards

  • Searching Google from Firefox yields strange search results

When searching Google using Firefox browser my search results are not consistent with normal results. Logged out of Google of course. Example: I search something like ccleaner or firefox and there is not a result linking to them at all. But the links that do show up seem to be related just not the obvious top hits. Search Bing and the first result should be bing.com , right?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • Firefox 25 on Windows 7: Flash 11.9.900.117 freezes Firefox

I have done the troubleshooting suggested by Mozilla https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding
Firefox works fine but as soon as any Flash content is started Firefox locks up and I have to close the process in Windows Task Manager.
I can't go into Flash settings and disable hardware acceleration because Flash freezes Firefox completely before that.

Could you try disabling hardware acceleration via your system's mms.cfg file?
This will be located in your C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash folder (assuming that you are using a 64 bit version of Windows).  Simply open up the mms.cfg file with a text editor and add the following line:
    DisableHardwareAcceleration=1
Save the file and try again.
If that fails, I'd recommend reverting back to Flash Player 11.7 until this can be resolved.
Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 11.7 for Windows or Macintosh?

I have a new MacBook Pro. I am using firefox version 7.0.1, but my homepage is set to google. Firefox constantly keeps opening new tabs to its own homepage by itself. How can I disable this feature.

    Hi [email protected]
If you have set Google to be your homepage, that should be the first one to appear. Are you seeing the Firefox home page when you open new tabs? New tabs should be blank by default. The only reason I've seen Firefox open new tabs with Firefox data on it is after an upgrade of the product.

  • Why can't I use google on Firefox?

I can open google.co.nz and get to the homepage. When I try to do a search, I get an Untrusted Connection error.
When I try to add an exception, I view the certificate and it comes from google. Firefox's error message then tells me the site has a valid, verified certificate and there is no need to add an exception. The "confirm exception" and "permanently store exception" options are grayed out so cannot be clicked.
When I go back to google, I get the same Untrusted Connection error.

That's a seriously random cause and effect...
but not the case, "this computer is set to automatically synchronise with time.windows.com"

  • Pdf freezing firefox

I am creating a website for our School PTA. I have added a link on the menu under About PTO called by-laws (PDF) which I originally linked to the bylaws file after testing the link and Firefox freezing I put in the url of http://www.kahrepto.com/Kahre_PTO_Bylaws.pdf. This link still freezes firefox. IT DOES NOT FREEZE when I test it in IE or IE through AOL.
All other PDF from other sites open fine (in a separate file this is how I have acrobat set up)

I have no problem with that PDF file being opened by Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 and then causing Firefox to freeze. See if updating your Reader 9.3.4 version helps matters.

  • USB Camera/Flash Player freezes Firefox & IE

    Hi everyone,
When I am prompted by Flash Player in Mozilla 3.6.2 and Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385IC to "allow" my camera, I click "allow". Immediately, my browsers freeze, Firefox crashes and Internet Explorer gives me a FlashPlayer10.ocx error.
I have tried re-installing EVERYTHING, it been going on for so long. At one point, Flash Player worked, but now its just ridiculous.
    HELP ME!!
    Sincerely,
    Soccer

Hi, thanks for the info. It appears that the FF Flash files are correct and if the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in is enabled, then
you should be able to use FF and Flash Player should be working properly.
However the Flash Files for IE and the SWO(Shockwave Flash Object) are old and you'll need to do a complete Uninstall
and Install using IE. Keep in mind though that the Adobe Uninstaller will remove Flash Player from ALL browsers. It is just like starting over.
The difficult thing is making sure we have a clean Uninstall with the IE files.
What Anti-Virus/Spyware program do you use and version # if you have it. Also does it have a Firewall? If not do you use
a Firewall other than Windows Firewall?
    Are you the Administrator?
You can download the Uninstaller to your Desktop, don't run it until I give you the instructions.

This is the Internet Explorer Installer  that you will also SAVE to your Desktop:

This is the Firefox Installer that you will SAVE to your Desktop:

Desktop for now, until we get ready to use them.

  • Why do games on facebook freeze & firefox becomes un responsive

when i play on games on facebook they load up ok ,but after about 2mins they freeze & firefox becomes unresponsive.then i have to wait ages, then is says firefox not responding plzz help becoming annoying :(

This can be caused by many things, the most obvious items are a HD that is too full.  OS X really needs 10-15% of the total HD space available. You can check that information by opening a Finder window, then highlight the HD and click Command I (I as in Ivan.)
Another popular thing is you may not have much Free RAM, you can open Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and click the System Memory tab, look to see how much FREE RAM the system has. Also look and see if there are any applications using a large percentage of the CPU, look in the %CPU column and you can see.
In addition you can also just restart the computer or restart in Safe Mode which will clear some caches, it's possible one may have become corrupted.
Finally you can read the Spinning Beach Ball of Death article, this will help you locate exactly what is the cause of your SBBOD.

  • How can I get Google through Firefox to stop redirecting my search requests to commercial information providers?

As a typical example that has been plaguing me for months, I asked on Google for information about "crystal sets" and was shown the usual list of possible sources. When I clicked on the Wikipedia entry for this subject I was redirected to the commercial Tazinga site telling me where I could buy a crystal set in my area. This never happens when I go into Google through Internet Explorer on my desktop, but more than fifty percent of the time does when I go to it through Firefox. Notably, it never happens when I use Google through Firefox on my laptop. What setting or other means can I use to avoid this problem?

Sounds like search re-direct Malware or a Rootkit on that PC.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
''Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.''

  • When I open FirefoxI get a dropdown small sync window that is blank and freezes firefox.

Firefox opens ok, but rapidly has a drop down, small, top-centered window that says "Sync", but quickly goes blank and shortens right at the top of the wind. When this happens, it freezes Firefox and the only way out is to quit Firefox. I just upgraded Firefox to the latest version on a Mac OS 10.9.3 from an older version.

Type '''about:addons'''<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager.
    Hot key; '''<Control>''(Mac:<Command>)''<Shift> A)'''
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select '''Extensions.'''
Disable a few add-ons, then '''Restart Firefox.'''
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until
the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue.
Re-enable the last group '''ONE AT A TIME''' (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the
others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

This has been an occasional problem since using Windows 7, but once I upgraded to Firefox 4 it's completely shut me down.
I suspect this is because I'm also using Remember the Milk via my email. I can't figure out how to turn off the RTM or why this is freezing. So far, other Google products (documents, calendar) work fine, as do all the other sites I normally access.
In addition, I can't find anything via your new menus... they are not helpful.

Do you sometimes use RTM offline ?
--> Wouldn't it be related to Google Gears plugin incompatibility with FF4? (RTM may use Gears to be used offline)
