Google GPS & routing application

My Google GPS ap knows where I am and can compute a route from here to my destination. But it doesn't: 1) update my location as I move to show current location, 2) change the route if I get off track and it needs to recalculate, and 3) does not give voice commands - e.g. turn left in 400 ft., etc. I know the GPS in the Verizan phone does these things as do Garmin and other GPS enabled devices. I thought the IPhone does these standard things too, but I can't make it work. What am I doing wrong, or is the application simply inadequate.

You're not doing anything wrong. The iPhone has GPS but does not have turn-by-turn directions, voice or otherwise, and it will not update your route. It will follow you if you press the crosshairs at the bottom left... your position remains in the screen center and the maps move around you. No one knows when or if Apple will allow a turn-by-turn navigation app for the iPhone.

Hey Mozilla! =)
The Google Documents draw application allows one to collaborate on design elements in what's essentially real-time, however Firefox has a keyboard shortcut that makes the use of this site somewhat annoying.
Pressing the 'Shift' key allows for multiple-select within Google Draw, however when this action is used upon an image object in the draw document, a new window spawns in Firefox to display the original image. With as many objects as I'm working with, it's kind of cramping my style.
Is there a way to disable this hotkey for this site?
If not, it would be nice as a feature request. I'd love some options that allow users to adjust their hotkeys as they'd like; or disable them altogether. :)

i use the GPS Chaeron Lib for the GPS communication, and then i define superwaba objects to export my application later on PDA.
with superwaba u can simulate your java application on a Win CE emulator.
u can also write the whole application on superwaba but i find chaeron better.

Can anybody suggest iPhone app for GPS route backtracking

I travel in African bush and would like to know if there is an iPhone GPS application which can plot my route in an unmapped terrain and guide me back on the same route.
It does not help to get a direction to the start point as there are bad patches of sand, river beds and dense bush.
My old hand held GPS did it, but sadly is now beyond repair.

No. Commercial GPS (signal degraded relative to military use) can't be that accurate. The device would have to see > 10 satellites at the same time to get anywhere near that. iPhones do most of location using WiFi and cell tower.

Google Map route in web dynpro question

Hi all,
     I have a route from add_A to add_B in my database, i want to get this route data from database and show up in google map page. The show up function can be implement by call google map javascript. My problem is how can send route data from web dynpro to my google map page. The google map page can be a JSP or html page, assume that we use the iFrame element to show this page.
    I search forum, there is a way send the data by url parameter, but my case, the route data should be very large, may not be send by the url parameter. If any one have good idea or other solution for my case.

Thinking of getting an iPhone - question on the GPS map application

Hi,
I'm at the end of the contract on my Nokia N95 and am thinking of switching to an iPhone as the N97 doesn't really look up to scratch.
One key deciding factor is whether the iPhone maps application can pre-load maps prior to overseas travel, so I don't have to crank up roaming data charges. The Nokia software is very good in this respect - you can pre-load, plan your routes on the phone etc. before you leave, and not use any data charges for the maps whilst you are away. Can the iPhone do this, & navigate without going on-line?

No, the map application gets it's maps for google maps, which needs an Internet connection to do. There are no preloaded maps. There are turn by turn apps coming out soon that will require you to download map packs but nobody knows if they will need a network connection to work

Google Map Route

I often use Google Maps to plan a route.
The problem I have noticed is that while the route does get plotted on the map, it is NOT drawn on the roads but rather offset a centimetre to the right.
Anyone else have this problem?
I find this very irritating as I cannot modify the route by click-draging it around.
My workround is to use Firefox...

Can't receive the CANCEL of SIP request through MSPL routing application on Lync

We have written an application of routing sip messages with MSPL script. It works well except the two things below:
It never receives the CANCEL sip request, e.g. when a caller hangs up the call while it is ringing on a lync client;
It receives nothing for a internal direct call between two internal Lync clients, e.g., one internal Lync client calls the other.
In the manifest file, we have tried with ‘methodName=”ALL”’ or any specific method name, but can’t figure these two issues.
Does anyone know why and how to resolve them?

Viewing modified google maps routes on iPhone

I just discovered today that you can't see a map route you modified on the web via google maps using the Maps app on the iphone! What a bummer!
I was hoping to use this to make bike routes for myself using google maps (you know how you can get directions on google maps on a computer, then you can drag parts of the route to different streets to modify the route), and then e-mail the route link to my iphone so I'd have the route via maps app.
Instead, when I modify the route using google maps on a computer and send it via e-mail, the e-mail shows up in my iphone, I click the link, am taken to the Maps app, which re-calculates the route for driving. But the whole point is to view my custom route for biking! And there's no way to modify the route in Maps app (is there?).
What's more, when I click the link to the google map in mail, it automatically takes me to the maps app. Is there any way I can make it take me to safari so I can see the map I modified? Since there's no copy/paste, seems I'd just have to memorize the lengthy url, which is ridiculous.
Does anyone know of a good way to do this?

I'm having the exact same issue. When I create a custom route on Google Maps (www.google.com/maps), point-to-point, and then force it to take me on back roads via the drag option it won't work, it won't even plot the course.
Example:
Home to point 1, point 1 to point 2, point 2 to point 3 and point 3 to home.
It gives me an error saying, "End location not found"
Really annoying! Fix it Apple.

Routing Applications through two network connections

I have a network wireless card which I use for internet and at the same time I use the airport to access the network printers in the LAN. When I try to make a remote desktop connection it goes through the wireless card and I need it to go through the airport.
I tried making airport the first one in the list, which solves the problem of connecting to the remote desktop, but then I cannot not access internet.
Is there any way one can route a certain IP address to go through an exact connection?

Network routing is based on destination IP address, not per-application.
Therefore it is not possible to tell Application A to use one connection while Application B uses another.
It is, however, possible to send all traffic for a specific IP address over one connection or another, but it won't matter which application tries to access that address, they'll all go the same way.
However, for the most part, this happens automatically. Since you only have one default gateway address on your system, the interface that gateway is associated with will be used for all non-local traffic, while each interface will handle the traffic for its own subnet.
What this means is that if your wired ethernet port is configured for 192.168.1.x/24 with a router address of 192.168.1.1 while your AirPort link is set for 10.1.1.x/24 then any traffic for anything in 10.1.1.x will go over the AirPort and anything else will go over the wired port.
The only reason to override this would be if you had a different router on the 10.1.1.x network that you want to use to get to specific addresses. For example, if you wanted to route to 123.45.67.89 via a wireless router at 10.1.1.1 you'd run the command:
route add 123.45.67.89 10.1.1.1
now all traffic destined for 123.45.67.89 will go over the wireless link to the router at 10.1.1.1 rather than the default router on en0.

Google SEO BSP application

We have developed a BSP application and have made the application externally available using the SAP Webdispatcher.
We have added some metadata to th different pages. Unfortunately, the website is not indexed by Google (and thus cannot be found using google).
When we fill in the url (f.e. www.boxconfigurator.be) in our browser, the url is changed to http://www.boxconfigurator.be/sap(bD1ubCZjPTMwMA==)/bc/bsp/sap/zbox_config/index.htm.
Anyone who has an idea what could be the problem? Or how to solve this?

Hi Siegfried,
the change to the strange URL is due to a special technique called URL mangling used by the BSP framework.
It is not possible to deactivate it as also stated by the father of the BSP in this old thread [Deactivate URL Mangling Code ?|Deactivate URL Mangling Code ?].
In any case I'm pretty sure it should not be the real reason about missing indexing by Google.
In add to the meta informations you have already added, it is important that the page is PUBLIC (no user/password) and that is linked by other web pages.
It may be also that you've just to wait a couple of days but probably you have to work on SEO techniques to be sure that google knows you web site and BSP page.

GPS testing application?

How can I test the GPS seperatey from mobile phone mast positioning???
Im pretty sure that GPS does not work at all on the 3GS. Maybe everyone has this problem as they wouldnt know if it was working while that have mobile reception.
I get fine location services at home, when in the UK, while I have a mobile signal but as soon as I go abroad or out of a signal area I get none.
I have location services turned on of course and I have Offmaps for offline pre-downloaded map data. But I still get nothing.
I checked out all this before I bought the very expensive phone, asked in the store , read about all the apps like offmaps etc that said yes yes yes it works abroad and out of signal area, BUT IT DOES NOT!!!

Some people have reported GPS working in airplane mode. That would not use cell towers. You could also try with the SIM card removed.
