Google history

Does anyone know how to clear the search history from the google search bar on a web page (which is my home page...http://www.google.com.au/)... not the google search bar on the safari tool bar.
Thanks
Matt

What I find a bit surprising, no search history, or trends etc. are accumulated in my account even though I use Google search quite a bit. Googles "help" section is not very helpful here. I do see the auto prompts as I type in the Search field on the Google History search field, but no prompts appear when entering in the regular search engine.
Well, remember that we're talking about two different things:
Autofilled searches as entered in the Google search field, which are handled by a Safari feature, not by Google. This is what I believe Matt is asking how to clear.
Google's saving of your search history, which is accessed by logging into Google as a member and then clicking on the "Search History" link at the top. This search history is not something that automatically appears when you start typing in the Google search box (unless #1 is in effect, but they're separate feature regardless, handled by different entities).
As far as #1 goes, this is completely within Safari's realm. When you type in anything in a form on a web page and have Safari's preferences set to autofill for "Other forms," Safari remembers what you type until you clear the autofill entry for a given site or turn off that preference setting.
For #2, this is a Google feature entirely and not within Safari's realm. This does work for me in Safari, but only if I'm logged into Google when I search. If you log out of Google (or never had an account there, either just a Google account or a Gmail account), it doesn't track and retain your searches until you log in again.
So, in response to:
I wonder if this is still more oriented toward the PC realm than the Mac platform?
No, it works just as well on a Mac, including in Safari. You just have to be logged into a Google account while searching for Google to remember and save your searches. (And you also have to have that feature turned on in your Google preferences. That is the default setting, so Google will save your searches while you're logged in, as long as you haven't specifically turned it off.)

• Deleting google history on safari

I have a question about deleting my google history from the iPhone. I have cleared the browsing history etc in general settings page but when in google if you type the first letter it gives you options that you have searched before. How do you delete these??
Any suggestions?

Ok, I know what you mean now, but don't know if there is a way to clear. Sounds the same as email addresses people complain about. If you hand type an email address when making an email it will remain there as well with no option to clear. The only way to clear (which odds are the same for the search) is to Restore your phone and don't load the backup but start fresh.

• Private browsing, google history

Heres a good question that i can not find an anwser too, using safri on the ipad when I have private browsing on, why do web sites or searches still show up in googles history even tho i am not logged in?

Private Browsing just means that when you close Safari, the app will not remember the webpages you visited. Individual websites may still keep track. Private Browsing does not stop Google from tracking you.

• Clearing google history from searchbar on Safari

Yesterday my 85 year old neighbour rang in a panic thinking as he'd 'done something' and had **** on his ipad. I went round to have a look and what I think he'd done was somehow visited an, er...'dodgy' site and bookmarked one of the pages however, it's not in his Safari bookmarks and I have cleared his history/cache many times over. Whenever he presses the letter 'k' in his google search bar in Safari up pops 'Keisha rides a...' (you get the idea). It seems to be either in his google bookmark or histsory (there is nothing else there, just this one link) I'm not sure which but I can't find any way to clear this as he doesn't have a google account so I can't clear it that way, and this is within Safari itself but obviously stored on the google servers.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
PS. I know he could use another search engine within Safari but he likes google and just wants to get rid of this pest.
PPS. I realise this has a 'I'm asking for a friend...' quality. LOL!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

• Google history when I click on Google - I want the history to disappear

I believe the tidbit above says it all. When anyone puts the mouse in the Google rectangular box, I don't want them seeing where I have been. How do I get rid of the history? Can I just cancel this feature?
I understand the 'most visited' sites will still be there.
We have a lot of family stop in and they are always wanting to check e-mail or look up something. I don't want them looking into my business about the sites I have previously looked for.

If you mean the website itself and not the search bar in the toolbar, open Safari preferences and click Autofill. Click Edit next to Other Forms, and delete the entry for google.com.

• Google History Searches history shows searches not by me

Every time I go on to safari new search history shows numerous searches not done by me, my phone provider says no one else could access this unless they were a spy which seems a weird thing to say.
I do not have a shared computer and no one has access to my phone, how can this happen?

Did you forget to log out from any public computers after use?

• Why wont my Google history dropdown search menu work.

Since changing to Firefox 4

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar or the Babylon extension that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links and buttons in that part of the screen not clickable.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• How do I view my google search history

Is there anyway to see my recent searches done from the search engine box? Sometimes during research I need to quickly go back to google search results using the exact keyword term that I used, but many of the search terms are difficult to remember,it would be easier to see the last 10 or 20 keyword searches.

This may only work if you are signed into a Google account but the link to view the stored Google history is
https://www.google.com/history/
It will also keep track of history from your smart phone.

This seems to be a recent condition, but when selecting some (not all) links returned from a google search instead of the page being served I get a blank display and the tab shows "aclk 1x1 pixels" I've seen the same condition in Firefox.
I've made sure I'm in 32bit mode and clear the cache and reset Safari regularly. Any ideas as to whats up??

• Suddenly, "Search in Google" service doesn't work

When I right-click on some copy in most apps, one of the choices is "Search in Google". If I select that, it opens up Safari, and starts a Google search for the highlighted text.
Now, for no apparent reason, when I try this, I get an error box saying:
The “Search With Google” service could not be used.
(Strange that it says "Search WITH Google" when the context menu says "Search IN Google".)
This happens to me from any app I have - TextEdit, Address Book, iCal, OmniOutliner, DevonThink Pro, Preview, Safari, everything. Yesterday it worked in all those apps. Today, none.
Any idea why this is happening and what I can do about it?
Thanks in advance,
rb

• Starting over with Google

My Google history has become a chaotic tangle of changed user names and passwords. Is it possible to scrap, or delete, everything and start afresh?

What do you mean by Google history?
How are looking at it?

• Google and Mobile View

I have two questions.
One, how do I erase the google history from my G3.
Second, when I go to certain sites it immediately goes to mobile view. On some you can choose to view the regular website. Does anyone know how to get to the regular site for hotmail/msn? I can't view email pictures through the mobile site. Yesterday I accidentally got to the traditional view, but don't know how I did it.

Perhaps, click Search in Google Maps.
Click where you enter
Tap bookmarks
At bottom click Recents.
Up top, click clear.
For websites, that has nothing to do with the phone per say. The site detects you are using a mobile device and the site developer coded the site to render in Mobile. If the site developer doesn't offer a way to view normal site, there isn't anything you can do but complain to that site.

• Google suggestions block view of results page

I'm using Safari 5.0.1 and have noticed an annoying behavior in google. Using the Google home page, I can search just the same as always, but once I get to the results page the suggestions drop-down comes down on its own, getting in the way of my results. I can't just click off this drop-down, either; I need to click in the text entry area, then hit ESC. I have been unable to replicate this behavior in Firefox or Google Chrome.
