Google home page has spurious characters in address line. Why?

I have recently rebooted my machine after getting some issues with it.I reset the home page to Google after hopefully fixing it. There is now an issue with the home page address:
https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=qZ7jVJfvLNCq8wf-jIDwCw&gws_rd=ssl - what are teh surious characters after Google.co.uk?
How can they be removed? I reset homepgae and search engines but nothing happened
Thank you
Regards
Simon

Did you bookmark only google.co.uk? If I try that hostname, I get:
https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl
That stuff after ".uk/" refers to the page being encrypted, but I have no idea what the rest is in your link.

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Zoom -> click "Reset" -> Page Style -> select "Basic Page Style"
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> select Menu Bar and Navigation ToolBar -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> Time range to clear: select EVERYTHING -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on Cookies, Cache, Site Preferences -> click "Clear Now"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> When Firefox starts : select "Show My Home Page" -> Type the address of the website which you want to be your HomePage e.g. http://www.google.com
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History" -> REMOVE Checkmark from "Permanent Private Browsing mode" -> place CHECKMARKS on:
1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES
-> When using the Location Bar, suggest: select "History and Bookmarks"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

• What has happened to my mozilla if the home page has been shrunk down and all the content has gone to thumbnails? Plus I have no tool bar at all

I was looking at a u tube video when all of a sudden when I tried to click the video off, the cursor started creating a circle around it and was moving all over and before I knew it, the google home page has shrunk down to a very small size all of the google eg web, video, etc details are in very small thumbnail rows on the left top of the screen and my tool bar is completely gone

Try clearing your cache that may well solve the problems on web content.
To get the tool bars back use Alt or F10 in your keyboard, then View -> Toolbars
* you will probably be able to just click on the relevant toolbar option such as the navigation toolbar to get it back
* if that fails you may need to consider the customise, and either drag items back, or restore the defaults

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• I have received an email from a friend with a link which I clicked. It directed me to the google home page and I am now suspicious that it is a virus  or a Trojan horse. I would know what to do on my PC but am new to Ipad. How can I check?

I have received an email from a friend with a link which I clicked. It took me to the google home page. I am now suspicious that my friend's email account has been hijacked and the link contained a virus or a Trojan horse. I would know what to do on my PC but am new to the IPad. Can any form of Trojan horse be planted on IOS 6 or am I worrying unnecessarily? Reassurance would be most welcome as I do use the IPad for checking bank details and web purchases. Thanks for any help.

PC virus won't run on iPad.

• Google home page in Html

Hi everybody, this is kinda trivial, but some how i cannot view my I pod touch, the "google" home page in Html.
I have been able to do this in the past, but now when i load google, it load in the "mobile" format.
I have tried clearing, history, cookies, cache, but this does not help
Also typing into any search engine for google.com or google .co.uk, it always defaults onto the googlw wed address but like
google.co.uk/m
Can anyone advise
cheers
tom

This change appears to have just happened - I saw the mobile page for the first time today.
It's very irritating.
However, being Google with all its might and wisdom, I imagine the quality of the page will improve as they continue to develop it. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a touch/iPhone-specific cool custom page based on Apple's web API before long.

• Have Firefox home page set for Google search, but each following tab opens w/Yahoo search instead. How do I remove the Yahoo and have Google home page on every tab????

As I said above: I Have Firefox browser home page set for Google search, but each following tab (but suddenly now it) opens w/Yahoo search instead. How do I remove the Yahoo search off the added tabs and have Google home page/ blank tab (like it used to be) on every tab????

The new Firefox Start Page - about:home - isn't the same homepage that was used in earlier versions of Firefox - http://www.google.com/firefox There is no "setting" for the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" - in the Options UI or in about:config .
Set that old "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" as your "homepage". <br />
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
Or open your Profile folder and delete the webappsstore.sqlite file and hope the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" returns to Google. When it is Google, the Google logo appears to the left of the "Search Container"; when the search engine there has been changed to something else, there is no logo to the left of the "Search Container" - AFAIK.

• I keep losing my I Google home page which reverts to another I Google page

• Clicking a search result from search bar goole seaech, always opening google home page but only can open search in new tab by middle click, really frustrating.

Whenever i am clicking search result from Google search bar, it always opens the Google home page. I can only open search result in new tab by double clicking. It started when i installed Firefox 12.

@mstm, please ensure that you write some thing in search bar before you click search icon. without entering anything will redirect to google.com. And make sure that you are clicking on search icon not home icon.

• Signing into Google home page requires me to empty Firefox cache and cookies and restart Firefox. Any way to avoid this?

When I sign into my home page (Google), I often get a blank page. I then have to empty the Firefox cache and cookies, restart Firefox, and then when I go to the Google home page, I have to sign in with my ID and password. I have checked the box that says keep me signed in. This does not happen with Safari.
I am running a Mac with OS Lion.

• Firefox will not open Google Home page at start up

When I start up Firefox browser my Google home page does not appear.

Have you checked to ensure Google is still set as the home page? See how to set the home page for details.
On the same part of the preferences dialog that you set the home page, make sure the setting "When Firefox starts" is set to "Show my home page".

• Google home page. remove boxes from web, images, video, maps, news, etc

I use Google as my home page.
I would like to remove the boxes around web, images, video, maps, news, etc.
I don't see these boxes in Internet Explorer.

Win Vista ultimate SP2 FF 4.0

Thanks to jscher and cor-el I now have the Google home page that I wanted.
I was not blocking gstatic.com or ssl.gstatic.com
I looked at:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Website_colors_are_wrong
I think items 2 and 3 fixed my problem. item 2 is the stronger candidate.
My attempt to improve the display for my old eyes - contrast and font size was not very successful.
I Checked these four items carefully from "website colors are wong.
1 (Firefox) View -> Page Style should not be set to "No Style"
Page style was set to wiki
2 "Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colors" check "Allow pages to use their own colors, instead of my selections above"
This item was NOT checked. It is now checked.
3 (Windows users) Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Accessibility -> Display -> uncheck "Use High Contrast", restart the application
This item was checked. I un- checked it. I think this fixed the problem.
4 (Windows users) Right-click the Firefox shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility -> uncheck "Run in 256 colors", restart the application
This item was not checked.
