Google indexing xml-files, how to prevent....

Hi developers,
maybe its a strange questions but i have a little dilemma.
I have some flash-xml sites and Google is indexing the xml-files.
When a user is searching (Google) and the text is inside the xml-file, the result of the search sometimes will be http://domain.com/file.xml
So when the user clicks on it only the xml-file is shown in the browser.
Question:
Is there a way to link or redirect the xml-file automaticly to the index.html of the site?
Or is there another way to prevent this?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You may get some help here, although this is not a AS1/AS2-related issue and is likely best taken to a web design forum such as http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/webdesign
Or better yet you might try Google itself.  They do provide some direction for dealing with having things not indexed.

Are you sure you haven't upgraded Pages on your Mac to Pages 5?
Check your Applications folder and the Applications/iWork folder. You may have 2 versions on your Mac.

  • HT202879 How do I fix "the required index.xml file is missing?" when opening Pages documents?

I can't open any documents from my son's iPad.  Error message: the required index.xml file is missing.  How do I fix this error so that I can open his Pages documents?  Before I ran the latest update as prompted when I opened Pages, I WAS able to open and view the document.
I did try restoring Pages using my Time Machine, but it still won't open the Pages document.
I have a brand new iMac that I just set up last week.
Son uses iPad at school, so we update when the school asks him to update.  Will doublecheck his version of Pages but it should be pretty recent.
In general I don't like using Pages because it lacks a lot of the backwards / forwards compatibilty of Microsoft Word.
However, it is what my son uses with the iPad.
Most of the time I have to export his files as WORD files because we never seem to have compatible versions of Pages between the iPad and the desktop iMacs.
Where can I recommend that Apple improve its compatibility issues with Pages?
This week I am going to receive a new iPad at my school (I am a teacher) but I am 100% certain that it will not be compatible with the older version of Pages on my classroom iMac.  I also avoid using Keynote for the same reason.  I have 15 year old Power Points that I can still open, but I am hesitant to switch over to Keynote because I want to be able to open my files any time, any where.
    Please advise.

Not sure what v5 is. Someone helped me and opened it through Pages 5.2, through the program, rather than the Finder. Thanks for making a suggestion!

That is wrong advice and you appear to have repeated it all over the forum.
All Pages files no matter what version have the same file extension, .pages, despite being radically different formats and that is the problem. The System does not distinguish between them when you double click on the file, it opens the first version of Pages it encounters.
You need to right click on the file and choose the correct App version for the file. Unfortunately there are no clues to tell you which is which.
If you are unhappy with this and the removal of over 100 features plus the problems with transmitting files across devices, servers and different versions of OS X, rate/review Pages 5.5.2 in the App Store.

  • How do you retrieve a file in numbers that keeps coming up with index.xml file

I'm not able to retrieve spreadsheet I've done in Numbers..the prompt index.xml file is missing keeps popping up.  Please help.  This is information I've been inputting for a couple of years now.  I need it.
    Thank you,

    Hi Sandy,
This reply from Fruhulda may help you. It refers to Pages, but the same methods should work in Numbers. Read the whole thread.

  • "Document name invalid.  The index.xml file is missing"

I have OSX Yosemite 10.10 and am having a problem just today in Numbers.  A file that I have saved to my desktop and opened daily to input data since the first of November won't open.  It gives me a message that the file is invalid, the "index.xml file is missing"   Running Numbers '09 version 2.3   Have been run ing Yosemite 10.10 for quite some time.  How can I open/retrieve the file?

I am having the same problem.  I am also running Yosemite 10.10.  The last I accessed the file was on November 13, 2014. I have been noticing that the layout /view of the file with the program has been a little different for about a week before then.  I have not upgraded to the newer version although it is constantly asking to upgrade. Still running Number '09, Version 2.3. I am very concerned as the file I am accessing contains critical records that go back for several years. I am not having problems opening .numbers files that are a couple of years old. Thanks for any help.

An original Numbers ’09 v2.3 document will save as a compressed zip archive that has its extension renamed .numbers. It contains an index.xml file. If you double-click this Numbers ’09 document, it will open in Numbers ’09 v2.3. This is contrary to how Pages v5.5.1 handles Pages ’09 documents.
You have to explicitly open a Numbers ’09 v2.3 document in Numbers v3.5. When you make a change, Numbers v3.5 will drop a sheet dialog that is very clear in its portent:
Would you like to upgrade this Numbers '09 spreadsheet?
    Edit a Copy
    Cancel
    Upgrade
When you choose either the Edit a Copy, or Upgrade — and save your changes, the resulting document is now in the new document architecture whose structure no longer uses the index.xml file. Double-clicking this new document format will now default to Numbers v3.5 on open, not Numbers '09 v2.3. You have to explicitly choose Open with Numbers (2.3) from the contextual menu to get the pop-op below because Pages v5.5.1, Numbers v3.5, and Keynote 6.5 documents are not backwards compatible.

  • Iweb 1.1.2 won't open, error message, index.xml file is missing

    i am using version 1.1.2
i opened iweb and made a very very minor correction.
i went into 'inspector' and saw that 'make all links inactive'
was checked so i unchecked. i published and when i opened it again
it was checked. so i made an extremely minor change on one of my pages....
changed the angle of a drop shadow 1 degree....then published again.
now iweb will not open. i get an error message that says
'index.xml file is missing. none of my copies of the domain file will
open. none. including old copies that i copied to a disc. all domain files
whether on the hd or exterior drives get the same error message.
i'm guessing that some how that file got corrupted.
how do i install iweb again and if so how do i retrieve all my work?

I't not iWeb that got damaged but the domain file. The index.xml file is inside the domain.sites file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Do you have a backup of that file you can revert to?  If so then do it.  Otherwise a long shot but try the following:
    close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.

  • The dreaded "The required index.xml file is missing." message...

Using Pages '09 on a 10.6.8 iMac. My file is about 3.6MB in size, have been editing it for a few months now. All of a sudden I get:
    "JournalManuscriptV12.pages" couldn't be opened.
The required index.xml file is missing.
So I uncompress the .pages file, and yes index.xml is there, along with Preview.pdf (which opens and has all my updates). I uncompress an older working version of my .pages file and get its index.xml file and stick it into the current one, recompress it and rename it to .pages, but it results in the same error in Pages. Ditto with the Preview.pdf file.
Is there any way to "sanitize" the index.xml file so Pages will accept it? I'm looking at potentially a week's worth of work down the drain as I just discovered my TM backup drive is toast.

    * * * * *   S O L U T I O N   * * * * *
Here's how I just repaired my .pages document for which Pages '09 proclaimed:
The required index.xml file is missing
    1. Rename MyDocument.pages to MyDocument.zip
    2. Uncompress MyDocument.zip by double-clicking it in the Finder
    3. This results in a folder named MyDocument with NO extension
    4. Add the .pages extension onto the folder filename: MyDocument.pages
    5. Double-click MyDocument.pages in the Finder. It opens!
Not sure what's going on here, but it looks like Pages sometimes chokes on the auto-uncompress of the file into a folder when opening it. This has been an ongoing problem with Pages since its inception.
Hope this helps others stuck in this situation. Just saved myself a week of work! ;-)

  • Anyone having a problem with the latest number software. Docs do not open Invalid. The index .xml file is missing?

I have been having problems since updating to the latest version of Numbers.
When I try to open files I am getting an error.
"The document “'13 Tax Prep .numbers” is invalid.
    The index.xml file is missing."
Anyone else getting this message? Anyone know how to fix the issue?

    Jeff Shenk wrote:
Numbers 3.1 can recognize both the new files without the index.xml file and the old ones with it, which it imports to the new format.
Agreed on that part.  But take it a step further.  If Numbers 3.1 is asked to open an old document that is still in the old Numbers 2 format that relies on an index.xml file but Numbers 3.1 can't find the index.xml file (perhaps the document is corrupted) then how can Numbers 3.1 open the document and interpret it in order to convert it to the new format? My guess is that this a possible trigger for the 'index.xml missing' error message.
Interesting link here on the new document format.

    Hi Tracie,
I upgraded to Maverick OS X 10.9.5, numbers spreadsheet is saved. Upon re-opening, it appears to be frozen, a warning "file is invalid as index.xml file is missing". I checked, and the file is not "locked". This appears to occur only with using the new numbers app. When I open previous spreadsheets from old iWorks, no such problem occurs.
How did you resolve your problem?
    Would appreciate any help here.

  • Pages & Mavericks - "The required index.xml file is missing."

I upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago, and am using the same Pages '09 (4.0.3) I was using with Snow Leopard. I wrote a text document in Pages after I did the Mavericks upgrade, and now it won't open—I get the "required index.xml file is missing" message instead. I tried a workaround suggested in this forum of changing the ".pages" suffix to ".zip," then changing it back to ".pages," but that did no good. However, text documents saved before the upgrade to Mavericks seem to open OK.
How can I rescue my work?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • Why are all of my files that I open in numbers tell me that I am missing a index.xml file.

This last weekend I was able to edit and work with Number files with no problem. Now all of my files that are something.number come up with an error message The index.xml file is missing.  Now just before submitting this If I open the app and map to the file that I want to open it opens about 50% of the time. But clicking on the file directly gives me the error message below.
I have tried the trick of zipping them and unzipping them but that did not work.
What is going on? And how I do I fix this?  Any and all help is appreciated.
