This also happens with google mail
I get a random wall of characters like this:

My other pc has no problems, I have tried clearing the cache and cookies. I have also tried re-installing. Safemode has also been tried

Did you check that you aren't blocking cookies?
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Hi all,
I'm having issues with setting up my mail and twitter account. I folllowed all instructions for mail but the imap server appears to be offline. Also when I open notification centre and try to tweet, it sends me to system preferences to set up my twitter account. I type my user name and password but it says they're incorrect although I use them to log on the site.
What do u suggest I do?

Google mail and foxfire don't wirk well together what can I do

Google mail is NOT SENDING or is very slow attaching small files and then it won't send, it says it is sending but is not sending.

You will have to restore the phone as NEW. You will lose all the data on your phone.

ISO web wrapped app(s) for Google Mail and Calendar that have push notifications but don't download any data

Does anyone know which apps are web wrapped for allowing IMAPing to mail & calendar have push notifications but don't download data to the device?
Basically, our enterprise would like to allow users to use personal iOS devices to access mail, calendar and contacts (we're on Google Apps). However, our strict security requirements are such that we need to make sure the app isn't being "overly helpful" and saving the accessed data in a cache or pulling it down to the device in any way.
My quick test for checking if apps don't pull down data to reside on the device is to put the device in Airplane Mode. If you can see your email or calendar
entries with an app when it's in airplane mode, then it's pulling the data down or caching it in some way.
I've tested the Google Gmail app and the Google Apps Browser from G-Whizz and both fail this test since they cache the last mail and/or calendar entries accessed.
The only legit way for users to access our enterprise mail and calendar is through the browser only. However, they can't get push notifications or alerts for new emails or from their calendar. The concern and likely outcome is that users will just set up an account on the native Mail app using IMAP, either knowing and disregarding that it's a security violation or not really understanding that they're committing a security violation.
I gotta believe there's an app for that.
Any help be greatly appreciated!

The living issue is complex in my case. Legally speaking, I have no personal residence globally. I just live wherever my father goes, which is everywhere. I'm an expat and it seems that these sites aren't really expat-friendly. They seem to be built for localization and assume everyone stays in the same place.
I don't know what I'd be considered. I'm a US passport holder and live in China, but I only speak some Chinese and I can't read it (it using non-latin characters is just too much for my mind's memory to handle). Besides that, I'm not interested in popular Chinese apps. They tend to just be annoying and kooky and generic and put together badly, often full adware and spyware (speaking for most Chinese software, in fact). In fact, a lot of apps I want are illegal in China (YouTube, Facebook, etc) and I use a VPN to use the services. I assume I wouldn't find these apps on the Chinese store. In fact, last I checked, there wasn't many English apps on the Chinese app store. This is probably due to their strict moderation or something.
I've been going to international schools since I got here and college would be in English too. I can speak some Chinese, but not read it.
Well, I guess the answer is that I can't use the App Store in English. So I guess I'll just sign out everything on my phone involving my Apple account and just start using third-party tools to do my business.

Google Mail and OS X Mail

I have a Google Mail account and am trying to get it set up in OS X Mail. I followed all the instructions on the Google site on how to configure it to work in Mail but keep getting a password error. I have tried resetting the password and still no go.
Any suggestions ?

Did you remember to enable POP mail in the Online GMail settings / preferences screen?
That is often the cause of this problem here. Make sure that you go into Gmail's online settings (in the webmail interface) and enable POP mail checking.

Mail and Notes display

I have just taken the plunge and installed SL went to mail and all the notes that were in my iPhone have appeared in the main Mail window. The notes 'box' is visible in the left hand side when I have dragged the notes to that folder they still appear in the main window. I would like the facility to see my synced notes but only in there folder when it's selected not in the main window with all the other Mail.

We followed everything, and finally, we can display all of them in the Portlet's Portal.
But, we got some big error..
a)Everytime we want to view message,compose new mail,open mytodo list..the portlet will display Lotus Notes Mail Login Page, and ask for username and password again.
b)When it show the login page, we also have Javascript error
"Document.forms.0.username" is null or not an object.
c)When we click to view the message, and after we type again username&password, it actually replace the portal screen with the mail, so, if the user want to get back to Portal, they have to click Back button.

"add my own sounds to" - do you mean notification sounds?? If so, they are set by the App developer and can't be changed (other than disable).
"Why" - this is a user-to-user support forum. No one here can answer "why" Apple does or doesn't do anything.

Google Mail and CC'ing myself has issues

The problem:
When I CC myself in Apple Mail, i never get them back.
My setup:
I have several of my own domains with email addy's forwarded to my Gmail acct. From there I have enabled GMAIL to allow for POP. I then login to Gmail with Apple Mail. I also use Google as an auth SMTP server.
I CC myself and no matter what account I CC to (any of my domains), Apple Mail does not get them back from Google. If I login to google's web front end, there are all my CC's sitting right there in my inbox. Apple Mail just won't grab them.
Everything else works fine with POP and SMTP.
Any ideas?

I believe this is a Gmail issue that you can do nothing about, and that the same would happen with any other mail client, not just Mail.
Please, provide a more concrete example of what you’re doing, indicating the (disguised) addresses involved in all the relevant headers.

E-mail and image display

Hi all,
I apologize if this is a repost, after using the search feature, I was unable to find a thread that answered my specific question.
I have had a BB 8330 Curve with the Verizon network for a few months now. At first, I was able to view images in e-mail. They wouldn't show up automatically, I would have to "Get Image" for each picture I wanted to see.
Now, mye-mail is formatted funny. Instead of an image, I just get "<http://blahblah.com/23.jpg>" I can no longer click "Get Image." Now it just says "Get Link".
I have tried: enabling HTML, disabling HTML, disabled Downloading images automatically, enabling them. Any troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mail and Safari opening randomly

Hi.
I sspoke to Apple support over the w/e. they feel it was prob malware. They got me do delete lots of stuff from the library but mo avail. In the end I was advised to reinstall from Time Machine from a period before the problem arose. All went well until I got a message saying "Unable to restore from this disk".
In the end I did a complete reinstall, which was v tedious and will take an hour or so per day for a week to get the computer back as it was. The odd thing is that the files on the Timemachine disk are all checking out ok and the disk verifies. Normally I have a copy of Supaduper to act as a second backup, but just this once...........

I have exactlly the same problem as described by Doug, but I am running latest version of Lion (10.7.3). It doesn't seem to occur if I log in as another user, and I have run both clamxav and cocktail.
Sometimes Safari opens spontaneously at a Bing search page with a load of nonesense in the search box, or sometimes the Mail app opens with an email written with similar nonsense, but empty address fields.
It is v irritating.

E61 and google mail

Hi! I'm confused with the e61 mail handling - mails keep diseappering. One moment new mails are listed, next moment they are all gone. What is logic behind external pop3 accounts? I'd like to download mails from my google mail, and keep receiving new ones. And the _manually_ delete them if necessary. Thanks! /Karye

I had the same problem with Gmail. Solution is to edit your username for the email account to something like "recent:[email protected]". I'm not sure why this works but I saw it posted on another site and it solved the disappearing emails issue for me. Now the mails will remain in the Inbox of the phone until you manually delete them.

Help me ditch Outlook! Apple Mail doesn't display messages for all accounts. Thoughts?

I have two IMAP accounts, both GMail. One account always shows messages (Gmail in the screenshot below) but the other usually does not. I've deleted the account, rebuilt it etc and nothing works. When I do get messages to display, as soon as I change folders then go back the messages have disappeared again.
Both accounts are set up the same way. One the account that is not working (Ruddell Consulting in the screen shot), I see the total unread message count under the Mailboxes window but the sort column and preview windows are blank. When viewing the common inbox I only see mail from one account.
I'm trying to get rid of Outlook 2011 but with the same account settings in Outlook 2011 both accounts work as expected so I'm stuck with it until I can get this resolved.

I found the problem. Or at least a workaround. I use Google Mail and some folders in my Gmail account were causing problems for Apple Mail. I removed the folders and Mail works as it should.

Preventing google mail from accessing all contacts

Hi all:
I use my iPhone mostly for work and have a work email on google.
I do NOT want google to access all my iPhone contacts, only a portion of which are professional contacts.
How do I prevent this from happening?
As soon as I add personal contacts to my iPhone google grabs them, and next thing I know I'm on my laptop on a work-only browser session on my google mail and it's got access to all my personal contacts... what the ****?!
Anyone knows how that can be avoided?

Hi Marcel,
Database Vault was backported to 9i release 2 so there should be a compatible version for 10g prior to 10.2. The alternative would be to audit actions of users with the SYSDBA privilege and have the DBA's access with named user id's...not with SYS or SYSTEM or / from the command line. This does not prevent access to sensitive data but you can audit the activity and set up alerts when violations occur. Without a method to prevent access you need to rely on policies, procedures and auditing database activity. If you plan to audit you should do some planning and testing for additional storage needs, archiving audit data and possibly performance, depending on your system.
