Google Map Links

Hi
I would like to add links from Calendar events to locations on Google Maps. Ultimately it would be nice if I could create an Automator Workflow that iCal would log in to MyMaps in Google, and link with the location to the actual date. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Many thanks
Mike
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I too like to incorporate google maps into my iCal events. I don't know about incorporating Automator though. One thing I have learned is that iCal doesn't like long URLs with commas in the notes field. To get around this I use <http://tinyurl.com/> to make links to google maps short and sweet.

I am looking to find a way to have the map application on an iphone launch when someone opens this link from a website on their phone:

  • How to open a google map link in google maps app?

    Hello,
I would like to post a link to a custom google map on my blog that could be open on Iphone with the google maps app. Someone would have an idea?
There maybe a solution with google map url scheme ("comgooglemaps:") but I don't see how to implement it
    Thanks in advance!
    The map:
    https://maps.google.fr/maps/ms?msid=218162555454264993409.0004ddc647279c6f0bde0& msa=0&ll=46.149394,2.329102&spn=16.974756,19.02832

I think this is not possible as a link on the iPhone will default to the Apple Maps app and there is no way to change this.

  • IPhone Google Map Links

I've been having trouble correctly formatting links for my application to launch the google maps application. According to the documentation I've read, you should be able to arbitrarily name a pin that you drop on the map. Like this link on google maps:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=160%20E.%20Grand%20Ave.Chicago,%20IL%2060611(Whatever%20text%20I%20want)
Now, if I sent the same exact string to openURL in my iPhone app, it would show the address that I have sent, but the text in parentheses is lost.
I have acheived some limited success by putting the parenthesized text before the address, but that leads to googles business search info, which is not exactly our info.
Has anyone been able to get around this problem?

Does anyone know whether the pin label (i.e. the text provided in the url to display as the name of the pin) is also sent to google as part of the address to map or is it just used locally by the iPhone Maps application when displaying the map?
    Thanks.

  • Google Map & Links Not Working...

    Hi Guys
I recently purchased ilife 08, mainly to get the functionality of being able to embed a Google Map into my website. This works fine on my Macbook, but when I try and upload it to my website (not a .Mac address), whilst the page displays with a big "hole" where the Google map should be, the Google map itself does not populate the page. Any ideas if this is a known "bug"?
Also, my Welcome page worked fine with iweb 06, but in iweb 08, the links to the other pages of my site at the top of the page are not visible at all. I'm currently stuck with my iweb 06 built site and unable to take advatage of the updated 08.....
I posted before about these problems, and the advice was to make sure that the feeds, Media and script files were uploaded to the site. However, these are all there....I'm really not sure at all what I'm doing wrong!
Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

Since posting the above, I was looking again at the files on the uploaded site and I noticed that whilst I had a folder called Scripts on the site, when I went into that folder, and then in to the Widgets folder inside of that, there was only the 'Detail View' folder inside of it - no Google Maps folder or Navbar folder!!! Not sure why this has happened.
I've now tried uploading these folders, but they're not appearing as folders, they just look like files for some strange reason.
It sounds like this is the reason for my problems, but how do I get these folder to upload correctly?
I feel like I am soooooo close to getting this to work now!!

  • Open google maps, youtube, video etc links with app instead of browser?

According to the search maps and youtube won't ask if you want to use an app to open the links because google doesn't see firefox as a mobile browser (which is weird given that it will always load the mobile youtube site...)
But the same thing happens when I want to watch streams from other websites. Instead of asking me if I want to open media files using an app it will automatically use the built in player. But I want to open media with a different player (mx player) as I don't really like the firefox player.
How can I have firefox ask me to pick an app/browser to open certain things like google map links, youtube links, media file link (mp4 etc)?

My biggest bugbear with the Play Store opening in the browser is that it's slower than the native app, so waiting for the page to load before given the option to launch the app isn't a lot of help. Would it be possible to have an option to automatically load such pages in the associated app? Perhaps when using the address bar icon it could ask "Do you want to do this automatically in future? Yes/No/No and don't ask again".

  • Google map does not recognize coordinates in links

When touching a google map link such as
    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.749420,-121.958588
in any iphone application it correctly launches the google map application but does not recognize the coordinates. The very same link works correctly in pc based google maps. This looks like a major flaw which prevents using location links in iphone, yet I am surprised I did not find any discussion about this issue.

Well, it appears to be a bug in the Google Maps App. I tried your URL and got a map of the Indian Ocean. However, zooming the map as big as I could, I found a red pin in San Ramon, CA. It looks like the coordinates are located accurately, but the map is not centering on those coordinates.
This would be a good subject for http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.htm

  • Positioning Google Maps in Dreamweaver

I inserted a Google map into a website, but I can’t adjust the position on the page. I only want to move it to the right by 150 pixels, and float some extra text next to it to the right of the map. I got the code off the Google Maps link and followed the instructions on placing a Google map in Dremweaver from a video tutorial, and the map itself seems to be fine. I have tried adjusting various items the CSS fules, using the float and width adjustment. None of the general positioning options make any difference. Padding won’t work either. None of the other divs on that page are responding to any CSS adjustments, which makes me wonder if the map is somehow causing the problem. Can anyone suggest what I can try to be adjust the layout?

    Hello Liz,
on "behalf" of SnakEyez02 (he probably has to do other things) I'll will reply: I'm sure he will recommend that you publish the link to your website here in the forum, where your Google map is integrated.
Did you have a look to "Google Places", where you are conducted how to insert Google maps too. I used it on one of my websites.
On the other hand, please have a look to "Adobe Widget Browser", where you will find such a gimmick too, I for my part I'am convinced it's much easier in application, see here please:

  • Text a location with google maps?

    Hi:
I just bought a iphone yesterday and I am curious if this is possible:
Sending a message to someone (SMS) saying, lets meet at this location, and post a google maps link to that location so that person can click on it and go to that location online through google maps and look up directions on how to get there.
That other person has an iphone too.
    Thanks.
    MP

There is no URL provided with the Google Maps application but you could do this with Google Maps using Safari but the iPhone does not support copy/cut/paste at the present time anyway.

  • Google map-problem in folio

I got this kind of problem on a webcontent in the iPad-magazine.
    http://www.0x61.com/forum/post3771011.html
I use the standard setup using a google-map link, this is the only problem.
Where can i "edit" the code, and how to solve this problem´?
I also noticed, that if you place a google-map-link like this, you dont get
a Google-logo in the corner. But you get a Google copyright-text.
Also "Google" common tools is added in the top of the map.
Is that enough for Apple to accept? I now many iphone-developers
geting denied because theres no Google-logo.
STILL, it just in the FOLIO, not the APP (library). I dont know if thats
something Apple checking - the folios.

You can’t just link to that code…you need to create a valid HTML file and link to that.
CS6 will allow you to simply paste the code into InDesign.

  • Getting Google Map search results to appear on Iphone

What I want is the to see the following google map link with all the included searches to show up on my iphone the same way it does on a computer. On my iphone if I click on the link, it takes me to google map but I lose all the associated searches. On a regular computer, it pin points all the different places I could go visit but I lose all that information on the iphone. This is the first really annoying bug I have run into.
    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=107655747628990809854.00 04371e6376db9b90b7e&om=1&ll=40.763121,-73.957043&spn=0.079442,0.187111&z=13
    Thanks.

I'm setting up a Google Map web app and I've just be told from live chat that the map will only ever display 500 items/listings/businesses and the others just don't show up.
Has anyone come across this issue and found a solution? There could be up to 2500 items that we want the ability to appear on the map at once.
This is your other issue (please keep same topic of discussion in the same thread, people can help you better) - you have a hard limit of web app item listing in BC before pagination. To show more you would have to look at other options such as ajaxing in other content fetched by knowing the pagination URL's etc.
But the better otpion is to consider 2500 items on a map is not good in the first place. Same with one big list. To much data. That is not good. Look to organise this better, can you split it up into regions, Classifying items to regions and outputting different lists etc.
    No Map here but:
    http://www.orijen.co.nz/new-zealand-stockists
ajax loading, nice search and the regions of New Zealand split up and items stay persistant when you scroll too.
    Another good example is here:
    http://www.atpscience.com/atp-distributors
Heaps of these in different areas and the map highlights the numbers of these which scroll across the screen. You also have a poscode search and more option search as part of that as well.
This map can grow to the countries that will soon distribute those products and the map layers allow for more countries to be added also.
This is jQuery and web app driven.

  • Is it possible to link from a Google Map to a DPS article?

    Hey everybody,
I'm using DPS to produce an iPad travel magazine about Berlin. One feature shoul be a Google Map with all the Points Of Interest from the articles. I want to set links from the articles to the POIs which is possible as far as I know. But is it also possible to link thge other way round, from a POI tooltip in the Google Map to an article produced in DPS? The map will be entirely online.
    Thanks for your help!
    Timo

You can use social sharing URLs to link from the map to your DPS application, provided it is a multi-issue publication and not a Single Edition application.
The advantage to this approach is your readers will be able to see your DPS content even if they aren't on a mobile device, as the web viewer will render the content in those situations.
