Google Maps application on iPhone 4 in Puerto Rico

I am traveling to Puerto Rico at the end of the month. Will the Google Maps application on my iPhone 4 work while I am there?

Not until iOS 6 comes out this fall it should work in PR if you have data service there call 611 and speak to customer service

    Open the Map App, press the book icon in the search bar. Then tap "recents" at the bottom & "clear" at the top left.

  • How to get regular google maps back on iPhone after ios6 "up(down)grade"

    Hoping someone from Apple will contact me about this.
    I recently downloaded the ios 6 (I hesitate to call it an upgrade at this point) and now my maps look like absolute garbage.
    I would like Google Maps back, properly (not the web app). I've read about downgrading to ios5.1.1 on other forums, but apple does not support it, and I'm afraid of bricking my iphone, or loosing my data and settings that I've spent many months refining.
    So, I'm asking you, Apple, to please figure something out for those of us who would like to go back in time and have the original phone we purchased. The maps app is absolutely useless to me at this point. If a solution is not given in a timely manner, I promise that my next phone and my next tablet will be an android (planning on upgrading both in about 1 year when my phone contract is up). I'm sure many others are also thinking the same thing.
    I think it's absolutely insane that you would break people's devices and not offer to revert back to 10 minutes ago before we started the download. This kind of planned obsolesence will only create irritated customers who will switch to a platform that doesn't tie your hands up and take away features on a whim.
    The only way to salvage your reputation from this flub is to fix it. NOW!

  • Viewing modified google maps routes on iPhone

    I just discovered today that you can't see a map route you modified on the web via google maps using the Maps app on the iphone! What a bummer!
    I was hoping to use this to make bike routes for myself using google maps (you know how you can get directions on google maps on a computer, then you can drag parts of the route to different streets to modify the route), and then e-mail the route link to my iphone so I'd have the route via maps app.
    Instead, when I modify the route using google maps on a computer and send it via e-mail, the e-mail shows up in my iphone, I click the link, am taken to the Maps app, which re-calculates the route for driving. But the whole point is to view my custom route for biking! And there's no way to modify the route in Maps app (is there?).
    What's more, when I click the link to the google map in mail, it automatically takes me to the maps app. Is there any way I can make it take me to safari so I can see the map I modified? Since there's no copy/paste, seems I'd just have to memorize the lengthy url, which is ridiculous.
    Does anyone know of a good way to do this?

    I'm having the exact same issue. When I create a custom route on Google Maps (www.google.com/maps), point-to-point, and then force it to take me on back roads via the drag option it won't work, it won't even plot the course.
    Example:
    Home to point 1, point 1 to point 2, point 2 to point 3 and point 3 to home.
    It gives me an error saying, "End location not found"
    Really annoying! Fix it Apple.

    Considering purchase of a new 32G iTouch: If I use Google Maps on an iTouch while in WiFi area, is there a way to store map images and text content for use later when I am not still in WiFi (w/o service)?

    I was hoping there would be a more organized way to do it - perhaps "print" (if that is possible with Safari on iTouch) pdf files of web pages, name them carefully, and then pull them up when I need them.
    A related question - is there a way to save any web-based information on an iTouch so you can view saved pages later? This would be similar to the "...save as" function on a Mac-based Safari web search.

    When I am trying to download google map the pop up coming it is already purchased and it will download with no additional charges but it is not downloading in my iPhone

    Connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, select the phone in the device pane, go to the Apps tab in iTunes, and make sure you have it selected and sync. That will put it back.

    While in Puerto Rico my iPhone 4 says "Extended" as the phones network status. Will I be charged the $.69 roaming fee's under this status, or am I clear of these charges with my plan. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Iphone 4 in Puerto Rico

    My iphone service is sporadic in San Juan(The Capital Not in the Mountains). Calls get through at times, my contact list phone numbers need to be manually entered in the keypad otherwise I receive a "call failed" message immediately if I click on a phone number. Very frustrating, my other carrier had no issues.

    I understand your discontent for the inconvenience of not being able to dial directly from your contacts while in Puerto Rico. I have checked my resources and turning off International Assist on the iPhone 4 has resolved this issue for other customers. To do this please follow this path on your phone Settings>Phone>International Assist.
    I trust that the above steps will resolve your dialing concerns. Please keep us posted.

    I've been having trouble correctly formatting links for my application to launch the google maps application. According to the documentation I've read, you should be able to arbitrarily name a pin that you drop on the map. Like this link on google maps:

    Now, if I sent the same exact string to openURL in my iPhone app, it would show the address that I have sent, but the text in parentheses is lost.
    I have acheived some limited success by putting the parenthesized text before the address, but that leads to googles business search info, which is not exactly our info.
    Has anyone been able to get around this problem?

    Does anyone know whether the pin label (i.e. the text provided in the url to display as the name of the pin) is also sent to google as part of the address to map or is it just used locally by the iPhone Maps application when displaying the map?

  • Oracle Packaged Application "Google Map" - Problem Found

    To Oracle Webmaster and Support Team,
    In the APEX Sample Code from the page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/packaged_apps/packaged_apps.html#INTEGRATION).
    The "Google Map" Application Preview (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=34481:1:4401939335008683) has some issues.
    After entering an address and click the button "Get Geocode", the following error message display: "ORA-29273: HTTP request failed ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1577 ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)" (Error Calling Geocode Service).
    I apologize if this is the incorrect place to post this message, I cannot find any other place to post this issue to Oracle.

    On the Oracle hosted web site, that 'problem' will never be fixed, mainly because to fix it, it could allow a whole series of approaches for their system to be 'hacked'.
    In short, for Oracle to allow that access on their server, for anybody to execute, would be a huge security problem. On your own site, then you can limit which users/schema would have that privilege, so it's not as big of a secuirty threat on your site. Though, that also doesn't mean nobody on your site could inadvertently grant the permission and open your site up to potential attacks, but that's a completely different problem.

  • Google Maps or iPhone 3G Maps issue?, can't find my address

    When I go to Google Maps on a Pc via the internet, it locates my home address without any issue (supplying street, city, state, and zip).
    When I do this on my new iPhone 3G in Maps, it comes up saying it couldn't find anything ... So whose issue is this, iPhone's implementation of Google Maps, or Google Maps not giving iPhone/Apple the latest data ? (which brings up a separate question about how complete Maps data is ... hmmm).
    Any ideas how I should best report this ?

    I don't know how to report this but I experienced the same thing this morning. I plugged in an address to maps.google.com and it found it correctly however in Maps on my 3G it shows it incorrectly. I double checked the address on my iPhone to that searched on the internet and they were the same. I even tried alternate spellings (i.e. Dr., Dr, and Drive) with no luck.
    Whats the deal with this?

  • How do I delete the old Google Maps applicaiton

    I think I have a problem that many wish they had prior to google releasing an updated Maps application.  I updated to iOS6 and got the new Apple Maps app, but still retained the Google Maps app as well.  This is one of the kind of apps that can't be deleted, like SMS, Phone, etc.
    I can move it around, and generally used to just stuff it away on the last page, but now I want to make an effort to remove it.
    Looking at the file system, at the .ipa files, the built in .ipa's are not included.  Anyone know where those are stored, so perhaps I could remove that, to see if it would remove it from my phone on next sync?
    I did a backup and restore the other day, still no change.  I did a backup, completely erased my phone to factory, then did a restore, which also didn't work.  And finally, though I really didn't want to, I went ahead and erased my phone with the intention of rebuilding it from scratch, though the darn Maps app was still there, so  just backed up a step and did a restore to my last backup point to save the hassle of setting up my phone from ground zero.
    I have added two screen shots, one wiht my mouse selecting a normal app so you can see I get the "X" to delete icon on the app, and the other with the maps application selected so that you can see I DO NOT get the "X".
    I filtered the left list to just the google ones, but have tried various other combinations such as "maps" to locate it, it is not in the list, just as "phone", "sms", and "mail" are not in the list.

    Older versions of the SMS app I don't even believe we're called "SMS" but "Messages" though I could be wrong on that. There were differences in the SMS app regarding FaceTime. The current app has a button at the top that allows you to jump that conversation into FacrTime. Older versions didn't have that button as FaceTime was not released yet.
    Yes, I can delete the new Google Maps App, it is an app I downloaded from the App Store. What I can't delete is the icon labeled Maps, which is also a google app, not a bookmark.
    For the large majority of users of iPhones of compatable hardware, when they upgraded to iOS6 the Google maps application that was part of a default iPhone installation was deleted. In it's place was installed Apples debatably botched Maps application.
    In my case, that didn't happen. I was left with both applications still intact. At first I didn't even understand why everyone was so upset with Apples Maps implementation. From my perspective, if they didn't like it they could simply use the Google Maps application they had been using all along. Then I started to see people asking where they could download the old Google Maps App and it started to make sense. Their system no longer had the app. They only had one choice, Apple 's Mapping app, while I still maintained both choices.
    I'm looking for others who have experienced this and solved it. I've seen similar cases where different apps hang around longer than they should, but never found a solution. I assume over time enough users will report this to Apple and a software update will correct it. I however, would like to correct it now.

    I just bought a iphone yesterday and I am curious if this is possible:
    Sending a message to someone (SMS) saying, lets meet at this location, and post a google maps link to that location so that person can click on it and go to that location online through google maps and look up directions on how to get there.

    There is no URL provided with the Google Maps application but you could do this with Google Maps using Safari but the iPhone does not support copy/cut/paste at the present time anyway.

  • Default MAPS application crashes and will no longer load or operate

    For some reason about two weeks ago, my maps application will try to load and then crash on me. I cannot get it to work no matter what I do. I even did a restore on my iphone 3G and it didn't help. In fact the restore just made a mess of all my apps.
    I cannot get the default google maps application to load and not crash. Help!
