Google Maps Metric Standard display

I noticed that google maps displays the distance in Km and not miles. I am hoping I am missing a switch to change it over. I have read that it may be geographically sensitive and if so it's not working. I do live in California and while I realize caltrans and the state have their heads up their A$$ and draw their maps in metric, we still drive in respect to miles and not km. Please fix if broken.

are you sure setting > general > international > region format is set to USA!!!!!

• Google maps don't display right, part is good but about half of it says "we are sorry, but we don't have maps at this zoom level for this region." Zooming out doesn't help.

When displaying a Google map I get about four vertical strips that alternately display good and in gray bands. The gray area displays the message "we are sorry, but we don't have maps at this zoom level for this region." Zooming out doesn't get rid of the gray areas.
I've had this problem for over a year and get around it by using either MS Internet Explorer or Google Chrome which work Ok. Otherwise Firefox works fine and I use it for everything else except Google Maps.
I've tried an uninstall of FireFox and then reinstall but it didn't help. I don't remember what I was doing when this problem first showed up.

You're welcome

• Google map data not displaying correctly in a spry collapsible panel

I created a spry collapsible panel into which I've put google map data. The map placed in the collapsible panel looks and functions OK but shows my location in the wrong place. I tested it by putting exactly the same google map elsewhere on my page and this time it displays my location correctly. Here is a link to my test page: http://www.cornucopia-design.co.uk/BatimTest/map3test.html . Mouse over the 'view our location' link to see the incorrectly located map. It places my location in the top left corner rather than in the centre. When you click on google's 'view larger map' links, they both then display the location identically. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on here? Is the coding for the collapsible panel doing something to the google code? I'm not a great code expert so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello, thank you for your helpful comments. At least I now won't waste any more time trying to get this to work if it just won't... I'll just have to display the map in another way.
Just a point about your suggestion of offsetting - I had thought of that but if I did that, when someone clicked on the map, they would be taken to the wrong place as, as I said, even though it displays incorrectly in my panel, the data IS correct and therefore correctly linked back to google maps.
Thanks anyway.

• Google maps is not displaying properly on firefox

I am in the process of building a website for a client and have included a google map on the contact page. The map displays correctly in ie, safari, opera, and chrome, but on firefox the map is way out of position on the page. Firefox seems to be ignoring the existence of the map in the flow of the page and the map is appearing to the left of the rest of the page content. Here is a link to the problem page, http://pennsylvania-hill.com/?page_id=6. The map is supposed to appear in a 980 x 320 space below the navigation bar and above the addresses and contact form. The only solution I can come up with is a firefox hack in the css. I'm hoping for a better solution.
Thanks,
Greg

• Embeded Google map (iframe) not displaying correctly after jquery .fadeIn?

Hi,
I have created a popup window that displays a Google Map after a button is clicked. The map works fine if the popup window =display:block. But as soon as you give the popup window display:none and use jquery to display the window them map doesn't load correctly.
Any help would be great.
See jsfiddle for code.
This is what the map should look like after the "Venue" button is clicked using jquery fadeIn.

• Google maps doesn't display

hi,
just a little problem with my brand new macbook: google maps doesn't work. the maps never appear on the screen.
thanks for help.

I had this issue for SO LONG. Turns out that it was a router issue; SPI Firewall specifically.
I have a Netgear router, and had to disable SPI Firewall in order for Google Maps to work.
The issue was that the maps would load, but the tiles would fail to redraw as I zoomed in or out. Safari or Firefox or Camino had same issue, and all are fixed now.
Now I can zoom in and out, and the Google Maps pages redraw instantly!
Look up SPI Firewall to learn more. I'm advised that if I have the Mac Firewall set up, then the router Firewall can be safely disabled. (I have only a small network of three Macs at home here.)

• StageWebView and Google Map V3 control bug

Hello everyone,
I'm facing a weird bug using StageWebView on Adobe Air 3.2 (but same for 3.1 et 3.3) and Android Mobile.
If I am LoadingURL from maps.google.com everything is fine and I have the mobile control shown on the map.
But for my project, I need to host my own html page containing a basic implementation of Google Map : http://ocelyn.com/chinon/map2.html and to load it with StageWebView.
If I do so on Android, I'll have 2 problems :
The first one is that the UI Control of Google Map is not display properly. It's is hidden behind the map. By that I mean that the layer with the map is over the layer with the control.
So if I move my map or if I dezoom a lot, I'll have the grey screen "all around my map picture" and I can see my control, but when the map picture cover again the control or copyright they disappear. (I don't know if I'm pretty clear?)
One more thing is that even if the map is over the UI,I'm still able to click on the control.
Hope someone could have an idea on how to fix this bug.
Thank you,
Jocelyn

• How to show regions markers in Google maps based on longitude and latitude. on-click of region marker i want to display all the country locations based on the region from share point list?

Hello every one,
In My requirement i am having some regions with longitude and latitude in one SharePoint list. in another SharePoint list i am having the country values with longitude and latitude and region as look up field. I want to display all the region
markers in Google maps. on click of any region marker i want to zoom in the map to region level and i need to display all the country markers in Google maps under the region. can any body help me on this requirement.
Thanks in advance,
Venu.

Not sure about Google Maps but this is fairly easy to do with Bing Maps. I've used Bing Maps with SharePoint lists fairly regularly. Here are some blog posts:
http://blogs.bing.com/maps/2013/03/26/connecting-a-sharepoint-list-to-bing-maps/
http://blogs.bing.com/maps/2013/03/07/geocoding-a-sharepoint-list-item/
Once you have your sharepoint list connected to Bing Maps you can easily filter the list data based on the selected country if you have a country column in your list. If you want to take things a bit further an create a much cooler user experience you can
also use the Bing Maps GeoData API to get the country boundaries and show them on the map as polygons. These could be color coded based on some metric, or set up as the clickable area on the map rather than a pushpin. Here is a blog post on how to use the
GeoData API with the JavaScript Bing Maps control:

• I have a problem when using Google Maps, at some point my computer blanks the window and says there's a problem with display drivers, and it has recovered, but it doesn't. Problem doesn't happen with Int Explorrer, so I do not believe it is the computer

When using google maps through Firefox, after asking for a place which is not the general North America section which routinely comes up, the firefox screen goes white, with a narrow banner at the top. A message appears in the lower right corner which says something about display drivers having had a problem, but now have recovered. However the display doesn't recover and the banner message is that Firefox is not responding. When I go to restart Firefox if I go to the restore point, the page is still frozen out.
I do not believe it is a problem with my computer because it doesn't happen if I use I.E. to go to google maps, then G-maps works normally.
This phenomenon did not happen before the latest upgrade to either Google or Firefox. I have used Fiefox for a number of years and also Google Maps on previous computers and on this one, and not had this before.
This is a relatively young computer (Asus EeSlate 121) less than a year old. I have used Firefox since I bought it and until recently had no problem with Google Maps.

I solved it myself, after the "note" which came back from FF/Mozilla just as I finished my message, commenting on what it was that my system had , I wnnt back to check my plug-ins etc. I downloaded the latest Java, BOTH 32bit AND 64 bit versions and latest Firefox.
Now all is working.
Thanks,
B.

• Error "a plugin is needed to display this content" for embedded Google map, but no plugin identified.

When I try to view a page that has a Google map embedded on the page, I get the error message "a plugin is needed to display this content". However, I don't know what plugin, where to get it, etc. I've tried searching for this issue but haven't been able to come up with anyone else experiencing a similar issue, nor does there seem to be a plugin for Google Maps that I can find.
The page is here:
http://osiama.org/lodges#
The map displays when one of the links is clicked in the table.

I'm not sure why, but the site uses <embed> for the map instead of <iframe>.
When Firefox wants to render an <embed>, it needs to know what type of object is being embedded, and the site doesn't supply that information, so you see a generic "I don't know how to handle this" error.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a quick workaround for you as the end user. If you are the type to tinker, you can manually edit the code of the page in the web console as follows:
* right-click the plugin message and choose Inspect Element (Q) - the web console will open to the Inspector, with the <embed> element selected (screen shot #1)
* double-click embed and edit it to iframe, then press Enter to finish the edit
* Firefox will now load the map (screen shot #2)
This isn't a general fix-all for plugin errors, and ultimately the site will need to change this.

• Google Maps - best way to display

Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3 and Webcenter 11g
I want to integrate a number of different google maps into my application.
What is the best metho for displaying these maps? Should they be within a portlet, or is there a more basic way ti display the maps? These google maps will be based on the Maps Web Services API, so they will pull from XML files to display the Geocode data.
Any initial thoughts would be great. Thanks!

Are you developing portlets for webcenter spaces or just creating a webcenter application?
Is it a requirement to add google maps at runtime or do you only add those maps at design time?
If you want to add the maps at runtime than you need portlets or taskflows.
You can also use the omniportlet. Their you can refer to the webservice of google maps.
It all depends on the requirements...

• While printing google map from FF4 its not displaying the map in the print out paper?

FF4 displaying the google map in my website. But while printing google map from FF4 its not displaying the map in the print out paper.
I chekced this FF 3.6 and there is no problem with this and other versions. FF4 having this problem.
What should I do for this? Please let me know.

What printer models is this intended for? I assume it is aimed at the lower end inkjets, with the suggestion of loading 10-25 sheets of paper.

When the new google maps site loads, it initially shows street lines and names but then they disappear. When entering addresses for directions the routes do not display at all.
