Google Maps on Iphone Question

Hey everyone, got a question here. I heard that Google Maps can send traffic reports, as in when I start a route it could tell me which roads are jammed and offer alternative routes. Is this true? If so how do I do it and is it available to do on a UK Iphone?

chazdaspaz,
If it is always grey, then the area you are looking at doesn't have traffic data available from Google Maps.
For example of how it looks, try searching for San Francisco, CA, and turning it on.
Even for areas that have traffic data available it will be primarily for the major thoroughfares.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.

  • Google Maps or iPhone 3G Maps issue?, can't find my address

When I go to Google Maps on a Pc via the internet, it locates my home address without any issue (supplying street, city, state, and zip).
When I do this on my new iPhone 3G in Maps, it comes up saying it couldn't find anything ... So whose issue is this, iPhone's implementation of Google Maps, or Google Maps not giving iPhone/Apple the latest data ? (which brings up a separate question about how complete Maps data is ... hmmm).
Any ideas how I should best report this ?

I don't know how to report this but I experienced the same thing this morning. I plugged in an address to maps.google.com and it found it correctly however in Maps on my 3G it shows it incorrectly. I double checked the address on my iPhone to that searched on the internet and they were the same. I even tried alternate spellings (i.e. Dr., Dr, and Drive) with no luck.
    Whats the deal with this?

  • Google map in iPhone 5 NOT working

I've tried repeatedly and took my new iPhone 5 to ask Apple Store's Genius but I am getting no where.  When I launch the new Google Map icon on my iPhone 5, it by default shows the mobile version and I clicked the "Directions" icon and input two addresses.  I then click the arrow button which is supposed to start searching the distance between the two addresses and also directions of how to get from A to B.  But no matter how many times I press the arrow button, nothing moves - same screen.
I then scrolled to the bottom and click "Classic", again nothing happens - same screen.  I have to do it 10 to 20 times and by chance, I probably can access the Classic view once.
I then go to the iPhone internet browser and enter the google map address http://maps.google.com/#bmb=1 and again I was directed back to the mobile version and then I scrolled down and selected Classic and it was merry go round and I was going no where!  The problem certainly does not lie in the Google webpage because when I access the same URL on a PC, I can search directions from A to B within less than a second.  Everything is super smooth.  I believe Apple has done something in their iPhone browser to make it difficult if not impossible to access Google maps in order to "force" users to use the Apple Map App.
    Can anyone help?

Can you update the car firmware with a USB stick?

I have had this issue off and on over the life of the phone not sure what to think. I see this mostly when using safari but have experience it during use of maps. The phone will exit Safari and return to home screen same with google maps will exit and return to home screen. Has any one out there had simular issues and if so what have you done.
This sounds like what was happening to me and another poster. See: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5575757#5575757
Anyway, the problem seems to be linked to Safari's Bookmark file on the computer. Since I stopped syncing the iPhone with Safari on my computer, I haven't had this problem. One of these days, I'm going to delete the bookmark file on my computer and just enter a few URLs that I want on the iPhone. I'll then use Firefox or Camino on the computer and Safari on the iPhone.

  • Customized Google Maps in iPhone

    Hi there,
In the Google Maps website, I can change my highway preference for specific sections of my route.
Let me give you an example:
I am going from Providence, RI to Secaucus, NJ and I do not want to use the George Washington Bridge on 95 South. I actually want to use the Tappan Zee Bridge on route 287 West (NY Exit 21), Route 3 East, and Route 17 South. In Google Maps I calculate the original route and move the route line with the mouse to my preferred path in the specific section of the trip and then Google Maps recalculates the driving maneuvers.
It does not seem like I can use this feature in the iPhone. Looking forward for your reply.
    Cheers,
    David

    Hi Larry,
Thanks for your reply. I am very familiar with the route to NJ, but otherwise, I freak out when I have to go on an unfamiliar highway. It took me three trips to NJ to learn that taking the George Washington Bridge was the worst idea. I hope to have other scenic drives (Tapanzee Bridge is awesome), somewhere in the US in the future.

  • Can I use Google Maps in iPhone application and charge for it?

I'm looking to create a location-based application for the iphone that uses a map to display locations. I'd like to use a UIWebView to display Google Maps using their javascript API which shows a map hosted on my web site.
When my app is finished, can I charge for it in the App Store, or will this be a violation of the Google Maps API Terms of Use?
Are there any other non-free iPhone apps that embed Google Maps?
    Thanks, Scott

    My interpretation of the following:
Google Maps API Terms of Service wrote:
The API may be used only for services that are generally accessible to consumers without charge. Accordingly, You may not use the API for any service that requires a subscription or other restricted access, or for which a fee is charged.
... is that there's no way you can charge for an app that uses the API.

"Apple Support Team" aren't here. This forum is for Users to seek help from other Users. It's not a way to talk to Apple.
No one will say anything officiall, but it's often reported that this is at the request of the Israeli government, for security reasons.
If there is a security angle to this, then I would not expect any comment.
If there isn't one - don't you think the Israeli governement would have said something by now?

  • IPhone + google maps

I'm developing an app that uses the google map api for flash and publishing it with the iPhone packager.  If i test my movie, everything works, but when it is run on an actual iPhone the map comes up completely grey.. any ideas?

This question has a simple answer, if you use google maps as3 library in your project it will fail to load because the map class tries to load an swf into the application. And because swf files won't run on an iphone you get a grey box.
You could try yahoo maps, or use the google maps web api .

  • Google maps back on the iPhone soon?

How soon will google maps app be back on the iphone?
Apple refused to post the question I previously asked, apparently they didn't take too kindly to the way I described their new wonderful application Apple Maps.

There have been numerous posts about this.
Google Maps is not on the iPhone because of 1 or more of these reasons:
    1. Apple has not approved the new Google Maps for iOS 6
    2. Google never sent in the app for approval yet.
    3. Apple is steering away from Google due to their strained business relations. Google did not want to release the Turn By Turn code / features for Google maps for iOS so that their Android products have an edge over the iPhone Google Maps. This is one of the reasons Apple developed their own.

  • Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running google maps app on the phone. Siri cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Thanks.

Apple maps has received a poor performance rating just after introduction of the iPhone 5. I am running Google Maps app on the phone. SIRI cannot seem to get me to a specific address. Where does the problem lie? Also can anyone tell me the hierarchy of use between the Apple Maps, SIRI, and Google maps when the app is on the phone? How do you choose one over the other as the default map usage? Or better still how do you suppress SIRI from using the Apple maps app when requesting a "go to"?
I have placed an address location into the CONTACTS list and when I ask SIRI to "take me there" it found a TOTALLY different location in the metro area with the same street name. I have included the address, the quadrant, (NE) and the ZIP code into the CONTACTS list. As it turns out, no amount of canceling the trip or relocating the address in the CONTACTS list line would prevent SIRI from taking me to this bogus location. FINALLY I typed in Northeast for NE in the CONTACTS list (NE being the accepted method of defining the USPS location quadrant) , canceled the current map route and it finally found the correct address. This problem would normally not demand such a response from me to have it fixed but the address is one of a hospital in the center of town and this hospital HAS a branch location in a similar part of town (NOT the original address SIRI was trying to take me to). This screw up could be dangerous if not catastrophic to someone who was looking for a hospital location fast and did not know of these two similar locations. After all the whole POINT of directions is not just whimsical pasttime or convenience. In a pinch people need to rely on this function. OR, are my expectations set too high?
How does the iPhone select between one app or the other (Apple Maps or Gppgle Maps) as it relates to SIRI finding and showing a map route?
Why does SIRI return an address that is NOT the correct address nor is the returned location in the requested ZIP code?
Is there a known bug in the CONTACTS list that demands the USPS quadrant ID be spelled out, as opposed to abreviated, to permit SIRI to do its routing?
Thanks for any clarification on these matters.

siri will only use apple maps, this cannot be changed. you could try google voice in the google app.

  • Questions about BLOG feature and about Google Maps Widget

Hi, just started using iweb & mobileme to take a break from dreamweaver & ISP host (I am so bored with both of them). iWeb 09 seems very VERY cool, but I chose a theme with a blog feature for a blog I am starting for our studio, and it works strangely. The entries are replicated in full on the blog home page, and that does not make sense. Read more? Why, you just read it all! Albeit in smaller print and different layout. But I am sure that I am missing something there:) Also, how do people comment on the articles? I see nothing there!
On google map, I want to add a pin but don't see how using the widget. It only gives me a google known address, which are few and far between in Nepal. So how do I fix that?
    Here is the draft site:

ALSO, BONUS QUESTION: where is the best place to get more/better canned themes for iWeb, and are there tips on installing them? thx!!!
