Of course you have to pay for GPRS/3G traffic.
Cheers.

Sometimes you can't beat a printed map!
If you can find a map that has coordinates (Long, Lat) and print it then you can use a BT GPS receiver to get GPS data into your phone (I think it's possible), to know where you are and then use the printed map.
I've used this method for hiking, since the hiking routes don't show up on any of the online maps I've looked.
Oh and to get to Google maps, scan this with your device:

  • Google Maps ( 3785 ) projection wrong after move to 11gR2 - help diagnose

    Hi,
Recently we moved to 11gR2 and noticed that our 3785 projection no longer matches up with Google Maps.
I know 11gR2 now has built in support for Google projection, but don't know if this is causing the problem.
I got the 3785 spec from here http://oraclemaps.blogspot.com/2009/03/displaying-mapviewer-tile-layers-over.html
Any tests I can run to figure out what went wrong ?

Did you create all the required rules in the 11gR2 database ?
Basically, you need to all the steps you were doing before prior to 11gR2 database.
Or you can use the new signature for CS_TRANSFORM as in this example:
    SELECT
    SDO_CS.TRANSFORM(
    sdo_geometry(
    2001,
    4326,
    sdo_point_type(1, 1, null),
    null,
    null),
    'USE_SPHERICAL',
    3785)
    FROM DUAL;
This will do what you need without defining any rules.

  • Copy & Paste into Google Maps no longer works after 4.2 update

Anyone else seem to be getting this problem? Copy and paste into Google maps was extremely useful. Now this doesn't seem to work for me after updating to 4.2.

    1. Copy something into the clipboard (doesn't matter what it is)
    2. Open Google maps
    3. Try to paste into the search bar. You don't get the paste option.
    4. Try to type something into the search bar then attempt to copy what you just typed. No options appear to copy what was just typed in.
This used to work prior to the 4.2 update. Very useful when receiving incomplete addresses via text message or from a web page.

  • In iWeb, Why should my Google map be linked to MobileMe

I have a Google map on my website.
Now that MobileMe has closed I cannot use Google Maps.
In iWeb, Why should my Google map be linked to MobileMe when I have never joined MobileMe?
    Any help please

The Google map widget assets were hosted on MobileMe.
Use the Google Map code in an HTML Snippet instead.

  • Google maps malfunctioning

My google maps app has been malfunctioning since this weekend. It will load completely initially, but when I search and move the map around, I'll get those gray squares that appear to be downloading new information, which won't disappear. The status bar at the top will have that spinning wheel that won't stop. Even if I leave it like such for several minutes, nothing changes. If I immediately quit and reload the app, then it will load that particular area of the map just fine. Any suggestions?

This morning the "maps" app and all my other apps that use Google Maps are not working. They only display a gray screen with a grid and the blue location dot. The Mapquest app works (doesn't use Google maps obviously). Spoke to Apple Support and they feel it's a Google issue and the only support they can offer is restarting the iPhone. I restarted phone... same problem. Any help to resolve this issue would be very much appreciated.

  • IPhone Google Maps - More than 10 results?

Is there any way using the Google Maps app to get the search to show more than 10 results? If I'm in an area looking for places to eat and enter something like "Food 66223" as zip, I can see 10 results. Is there no way to get additional results like you can in the native Google Maps app online?
    Thanks!

If you know your location (like you said, 66223) and want more results, you can always use Google Local (it's right on Google's mobile search page) or something like Pinpoint on Apple's web app page. You can click through and get more results, with quick links to call the number or to map it.
But the point where this fails is if you don't really know where you are. That's where the actual Google Maps app shines (with the help of faux-GPS)!

  • Google Maps thinks I'm in Seattle WA - why??

Over the past two or three days, whenever I go to use Google Maps, the locator thinks I'm in Seattle. The problem with that - I'm at home in Metro Detroit! Even when I'm outside, with a clear shot at the sky, the GPS doesn't seem to lock in. I just get the .25 mile circle guesstimate of my location - which is always in Seattle as well.
I have turned off my WiFi, thinking that maybe it was pulling up an errant IP Location from a neighbor's WiFi - but still even on 3G Google Maps thinks I'm in Seattle, not Metro Detroit.
Any guesses at why it's doing that?
Is it a hardware issue? Something I should schedule some time with a Genius at the local Apple Store to have them investigate?
I do use the locator a lot when I'm using Google Maps, and I'm hoping to use other GPS location APPS as they become available. So if this is a hardware issue, I need to go get it straightened out to use my iPhone like I want to.

A GPS receiver requires two sets of data with which to determine location in conjunction with the real-time signals received from the satellites. These are known as almanac and ephemeris data. Normally (a non-assisted GPS receiver), these are obtained from the GPS satellites. Worst case, it can take 12-15 minutes for these files to be downloaded from the satellites.
With Assisted-GPS (as found in the 3G), the device will attempt to get a partial set of almanac/ephemeris data from the A-GPS server, based on where the iPhone thinks it is. This data is transmitted to the iPhone over the cellular data connection (3G or EDGE), or a WiFi connection, whichever is available. If your nearby AT&T cell tower is not correctly identified (bug in the tower CellID info, or an error in the A-GPS server), the iPhone will be given bad ephemeris data. It will then calculate its location based on signals from the GPS satellites and the faulty ephemeris data. That could explain why Detroit becomes Seattle.
Based on what's been reported in the many discussion threads concerning broken GPS, it appears that once the iPhone has obtained (faulty) assist data from the A-GPS server, it doesn't bother to keep listening to the data broadcast from the sky so it never receives correct ephemeris/almanac data.
Like many others, my 3G lost its GPS function after the update to v2.1. I eventually got it working by removing SIM card (so as to disable EDGE and 3G data), turned off WiFi and went outside for 20 minutes. Eventually, the GPS locking in to my location, with the pulsing blue dot. With no A-GPS server to fall back on, I surmise that the GPS receiver had downloaded the almanac/ephemeris data, and was thus able to obtain an accurate GPS location. Then I put the SIM card back in. My Location Services has been working fine since.
@MobileDev - it would be helpful if you could take your "Seattle-based" 3G outside (in clear view of sky) and wait a while to see if it eventually obtains the sky data and realizes that it is really in Detroit. That would confirm if this hypothesis is correct.

  • Although I have been using Google Maps App in India for a while now (without any issues) but I still want to know if there are any plans for launching Turn by Turn Navigation under the OOTB Map App for iOS?

Although I have been using Google Maps App in India for a while now (without any issues) but I still want to know if there are any plans for launching Turn by Turn Navigation under the OOTB Map App for iOS?
It has been quite a while since Apple came up with Map App of their own and should be releasing improved maps with more capabilities in India.
    Cheers!

My Eris? Only minor occasionally glitches (force closes or bad apps) and just recently found one tiny dead spot in the LCD screen (no big thing). Biggest thing is I have NOT had to pull my battery in months! I think it was more my fault the last time it happened.
The main reason I think my phone is so problem free is I did a factory reset soon after 2.1 OTA update.
Btw I went from a Motorola W385 to the Droid Eris. Big learning curve, but I enjoyed the trip. LOL

Is there any quality App for the iPhone 4S similar to Google Wallet or does Apple now support Google Wallet?  thanks

    SOLVED!!!!!
    This is the app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dictionary.appender/id650562573?mt=8
I emailed the maker of the app and he said to just follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094
File share the .dictionary file to your ipad and then add it from the list of addable languages.  It took a minute for it to show up on my ipad but it DID work.  It is working with iBooks.
    Happy reading.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

  • Google Maps Lacks KML Support

For some reason, the Palm Pre version of Google Maps does not support KML files.  The full web version allows you to enter the URL to a KML file hosted on a web server into the search box and it will display the points in the KML file on the map (just like Google Earth does).  This also works on other mobile platforms, including the iPhone/iPod touch, and some Windows Mobile phones.  Does anyone know if this is going to be added?  I use this feature in Google Maps for fleet management.  I foolishly assumed that the feature set in the Pre version of Maps would be similar to the iPhone and other platforms.

Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I read through the posts and I'm happy this has been put on the "list".
I work for a state agency and I'm working on developing free map sets for mobile phones (e.g. hiking trail information).  I got the Pre to help me with testing and I'm extremely dissapointed to see that .kml's and .kmz's are not supported. Had I known this I would have gone with a blackberry and would advise others against purchasing the pre.
These units have great GPS capabilities making them really practical for importing data sets, this is very dissapointing. Perhaps I'll just have to put a note on our webpage saying that the Palm Pre doesn't support mobile google map files....
