Google safe browsing service is unavailable

In my preferences of Safari is appeared this: "google safe browsing service is unavailable"
Thank you very much for your help

Hi fellow Granite Stater - have you looked at Activity monitor to see what's using so much CPU and causing the fan to run so loudly? You might also want to reset the PRAM to see if that will help your icons stick.
Have you emptied Safari's caches? You can try resetting it as well.
Does using Firefox produce the same fan problems?
I suggest you back up all your data to an external and then run DiskWarrior or TechToolPro if you have either, or run the Apple Hardware test from your install disk.
It might be a good idea to check things using Disk Utility:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Reboot and repair permissions from your hard drive.

  • Google Safe Browsing Service is not available Warning Message

I just downloaded the latest update for Safari 6.0.4 on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and under Security Preferences there is a warning message beside Fraudulent Sites (yellow triange with an ! in it) that says: "Google Safe Browsing Service is not available. No updates have occurred in 27 days".
What do I need to do to correct this?

If the above suggestions fails, or you are already using Google as your default browser, follow the steps below:
How to Fix "Google Safe Browsing Service is Unavailable" Error in Safari.
    1.  On the Finder Menubar, click "Go".
    2.  Then click, "Go to Folder"
    3.  Type in:  /private/var/folders  <Hit enter>
4   There will be a few folders; open them up and look for a folder named com.apple.files.
    5.  Find, and open the folder named, com.apple.safari.
    6.  In this folder, there should be a file named, safebrowsing.db
    7.  Send the safebrowsing.db file to the trash and delete it.  This will force Safari to rebuild the file.
    8.  This should fix the problem.  But check back again to test it.  Note, the file dosen't seem to update daily.
    Hope this helps.

  • It says the Google Safe Browsing System is unavailable.  No updates have occurred in 11 days.  That's exactly how long I've owned my computer.  I've managed to do other updates but can't find a way to update this.

Applications :: Unable To Use Safari / Google Safe Browsing Service Unavailable

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.

  • Safari: How to update Google Safe Browsing Service?

    Hi guys.
I checked my security prefrences in Safari and it had a yellow sign that said my Google Safe Browsing Service is unailable and it had not been updated in 11 days.
I would like to update it but I don't know how.
I tried turning it off, restarting Safari and clicking it back on but that didn't help.
I'm worried I'll be getting viruses now or something?
I checked my software update and there was none...
This MB Pro is brand new.

The little yellow icon went away and all seems to be well.
This is strange to me. Why did this happen.

  • Safari won't browse, warning "Google safe browsing service unavailable. No updates have occurred in 1 day"

I have a new MacBook Pro and having been browsing happily for 2 months and tonight I have started my Mac and opened safari and it won't load. Under Preferences there is an error that reads "Google safe browsing is unavailable. No updates have occurred in 1 day"
I have looked through the forums and nothing has helped?
    Please help?

Launch the Network Utility application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Network Utility in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and enter
    www.apple.com
in the address field. Press return. Post the output – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same.

  • What is the 'Google safe browsing service'?

Anyone know what this is? :

    Thanks Carolyn,
The reason I asked was because I kept getting a yellow triangle in my Safari prefs saying that 'Google Safe browsing servied' has been off for three days'......or something like that; now its not there for me to cut / past into this reply.

  • Safari safe browsing service unavailable

I've recently upgraded to Yosemite (6 days ago) and since then in the Safari security settings, I've had the message 'The google safe browsing service is unavailable. No update have occurred x days.
I've tried a few workarounds that I've seen online. Starting in safe mode, unchecking and then rechecking the Fraudulent sites check box. But its not getting rid of the issues.
Anyone else having the same issue, or know any other workarounds?
    Thanks

    1. Delete Caches.db
Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" from the dropdown.
        Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
        Close windows and relaunch Safari.
    2. Empty Caches
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
If this doesn't help, wait until  this warning goes  off by itself.

  • Somebody who knows Safari and Google Safe Browsing please help me!!!!

In Safari under the security preferences I get this message under the "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" ( it is selected to be on )
The Google Safe Browsing Service is Unavailable.
I repaired permissions from start up disc and all that. I logged into my other accounts, and this message isn't in safari on one of them. On mine is says that google safe search hasn't updated in 3 days. My girls says 10 days. My other account is fine.
Everything is updated to the newest updates.
    What do I do??

The blacklists from Google’s Safe Browsing Initiative (where Safari checks for 'fraudulent websites') are contained in a database cache file called SafeBrowsing.db - the file was created when you first launched Safari 3.2, and if you have the browser open, the file is modified approximately every 30 minutes.
In other words it is part of Safari's (version 3.2 onwards) new anti-phishing security feature.
As an alternative to turning off 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website', which will lose you that important security feature, you should delete that database file, (but first close Safari):
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari (this is a folder)/SafeBrowsing.db
It will be recreated next time you open Safari, and will then start again collecting details of dodgy websites.

  • Turning off Google Safe Browsing Content

Not much of a question, but an answer to others' archived questions. Many are concerned that Google Safe Browsing Cache violates their privacy and releases the public's web activities to one of Google's data-centers. The easiest way to disable this feature (can't be done through the Firefox web browser), is to block these URL domains on your main network router (given that you have a newer, more feature-rich router such as the latest D-link product line):
    safebrowsing.clients.google.com
    safebrowsing-cache.google.com
    sb-ssl.google.com
    sb.google.com
Now, Google may only track your activities while your logged in with your Google account--when it is relevent--rather than all of the time without your control. Thank you.

I think there are some misconceptions about this feature.
Firefox doesn't send every web request to Google, but instead consults a database of bad sites that you download from Google at regular intervals. You would only send a request to Google if you request a page on a bad site.
Google's agreement with Mozilla is that this data isn't supposed to be correlated with your other Google activity.

  • Google safe browsing: meaning of "malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent"

    As an example, see http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=google.com
What does this phrase mean? Is it a browse-and-get-owned exploit? Is it for outdated browsers, or modern browsers too? Does it require specific vulnerable plugins to be active, such as Java?

Read the following about "drive-by downloads". Item 2 at the top of the page. User does not need to click on something on the infected page for a download to occur. Simply visiting the page is enough for the download to occur.
