Google Toolbar is blank in FF 3.6.10 on MacBook Pro running latest OS. Preferences look strange in settings.

On MacBook Pro, running the latest OS, Google Toolbar is entirely blank. Setting preferences shows duplicated settings icons on the left with no "Close" button at bottom.

  • This Question is at least 2.5 years old.  But still an issue.  I have an early 2008 and mid 2010 13 inch macbook pro running iTunes 10.7.  Itunes on both machines doesn't recognize blank cds or allow me to import from a music cd when I insert it.

iTunes does not use the .xml it uses the .itl
If you are sure your old library file migrated across (does the file size and modification dates suggest it has?) start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the .itl file to get it to use that one.

My hard drive has 70.93 GB available, yet when i have more than one internet tab open, i have to force quit google chrome because 'there is no more available application memory'. How can I solve this? I have a 2009 macbook pro running on 10.6.8. I have tried updating to mavericks through the mac app store but after it downloading for a day i got an error message saying there was a problem with the download. The same thing happens if i try to update itunes or the mac app store. After research, i have also tried repairing disk permissions, but every time they do get repaired the 'repair' button still appears, i'm not sure if it's because it was unable to repair the initial problems or if it just keeps detecting new ones.

2 GBs is a minimum in which you can do many things, but not concurrently. Be very careful to not install third-party add-ons, limit the number of applications you choose to enter in Login Items, run as few applications concurrently as you demand.
I would consider adding more RAM to your computer. Your model supports 8 GBs, so I would install that.

  • MacBook Pro running Leopard has suddenly thinks audio CDs are blank.  Also not recognized in Itunes.

MacBook Pro running Leopard has suddenly thinks audio CDs are blank.  Also not recognized in Itunes.  What should I do to determine whether it's a hardware or software problem? Or is there something unusual about these CDs?

I have the exact same issue.DVD's work perfectly, but audio cd's have stopped working.  I think it's pretty recent, but can't confirm it because i don't use audio cd's daily. So I think it might be software related instead of hardware related. I Have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 running the latest OSX release.

  • What blank DVD-R will work with a macbook pro and Matshita UJ-857E

Hi in my macbook pro is the factory fitted Matshita UJ-857E superdrive, when I insert a blank DVD-R it spits it out, blank CD's work ok.
I have Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
I have tried three different types of brands including maxell, verbatim and cheap woolworths brand.
I bought an external USB DVD burner and this recognises any DVD-R I throw at it, so I think it can either be a faulty drive or it's a bit fussy about the brand of DVD's it can recognise.
Please can you post the blank DVD's that work on your macbook pro superdrive

Thanks for pointing that out, re posted here

  • Unable to download Google Earth to new macbook pro running Yosemite.

On Google Earth site the download link fails to start loading immediately. Using the link provided in the event of such failure I am taken to di.google.com which starts to load then also fails part way through. Whether I go straight to the google site or go via a third party link the same thing happens. Any solutions?

No - About this Mac>More Info>Support>User Manual takes you to the page on the Apple site where the manual can be downloaded - and it still doesn't work.

Yes you may need to upgrade it to Snow Leopard. Do a search on the Apple Store site, Store Link Above on this page, for Snow Leopard and from that you can order it.

  • I operate MacBook Pro w latest version of OS Maverick.  Also run Parallels with VM of XP.  Bought Win 8.1 Pro w DVD.  The DVD does't mount and eventually says the DVD is blank.

How do I get MacBook to recognize the DVD and permit Parallels to create a new Virtual Machine using the W 8.1 Pro DVD?

Question for Parallels documentation, forum, their own FAQ and Knowledge Base.
Even Windows on Mac support for Boot Camp has instructions, Boot Camp Assistant will create a flash drive (no one is using DVDs).

  • MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.6. The font size for the tabs and bookmarks Toolbar is too small for comfortable reading for older eyes. Is there a way to change it or enlarge it?

The font size is smaller and harder to read than on FF 3.x. Would like to make it a few points larger or choose a different, more readable font altogether.

  • Macbook Pro Mid 2014 totally blank screen

When I power on, my macbook pro does nothing (blank screen) after the sound.
    System:
    -Macbook Pro Retina 13' (Mid 2014) 256GB SSD, i5, 8Gig RAM
    -Yosemite (10.10)
I tried to install Windows 8.1 using bootcamp assistant on Yosemite.
After installing Windows 8.1, it asked me to restart.
When I restarted it stuck on blank screen. I've heard the startup noise but nothing happened.
I tried many startup key combinations such as; Command(Alt), cmd+R,cmd+V,T, but the screen is always blank.
Although the screen light is, on the screen is totally blank.
I did resetting SMC, and also I did cmd+alt+P+R (I've heard 4 times startup sound) but the screen is always blank.
Nothing happens. I can only shut down by pressing the power button for 4 seconds.
As a result when I power on, I hear the sound but nothing happens. Nothing on the screen.
    What I did before was;
0- The system is a brand new mac. I bought it 1 week ago.
1- I tried to install windows 8.1 using bootcamp. But failed. Because windows installer gave me an error that windows can not be installed on GPT partition.(I have also MacBook Air and MacMini with bootcamp Windows 8.1 working fine.)
2- Then I rebooted using Alt key then booted to MacOSX and deleted the windows part and many combinations. But failed. The error was always the same GPT error.
3- I reinstalled Yosemite tried all the steps but failed with the same error (GPT error)
4- I phoned to apple helpdesk and they tried to help installing windows but we couldn't succeed.
5- We had another same macbook pro. And we could install windows 8.1 easily.
6- I compared the two machines in windows setup. The problematic mac had first partition labelled EFI.
7- Then after a few hours. I tried to install again. And saw that the EFI label was gone!. But I don't know how this is happened.
8- I was happy and started to install windows. After installing the system gone!!.

I would return it for an exchange. At a minimum, I would take it in to an Apple store.

  • Why does my google calendar sync perfectly to iCal on my Macbook Pro but not my iPhone 4?

The question as title is basically my problem.  Before I got my MacBook Pro I used my iPhone 4 (with iOS 5) to use the iCal app to edit my google calendar.  Events synced perfectly.  After getting my MacBook Pro things still seemed fine as well.  I was editing my calendar on iCal on my MacBook Pro, on Google's on-line Calendar App from other computers, and also on my iPhone 4 through the iCal App.  Suddently events were not syncing any longer.  I don't know what is the problem.  Things changed on iCal on the MacBook Pro still syncs to Google's online Calendar App and vise versa, but I can't do a thing with my iPhone 4 iCal.
Any suggestions?  I've tried deleting and resyncing my google account to my iPhone without any success.
    Thanks in advance.
    Barry

    Hi Matt,
I found my own solution to this problem and I think you can get it to work as well.  The thing is that you'll need to make your Google calendar your only calendar.  This means that you'll not want to have a Home or Work iCal because that stuff may not sync well with your Google calendar, but the Google Calendar data will appear within iCal on your iOS and Mac computer without any problems.
Before you do any thing I suggest, you must make sure that everything that you want on your calendar is on your on-line Google calendar.  If something is not there and you want it there, the thing you'll need to do is manually add it.  There is no work around that I have found for this.
    Next, on your computer:
    1. Go to System Preferences > iCloud
    2. Make sure that Calendars is not selected.  You don't want your computer or iOS devices to be confused with the iCal Home / Work, etc. calendars.  So let's not sync them.
    3.  Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars
    4.  Delete Your Google account there
    5.  Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars
    6.  Re-add your Google account
Now you should be able to go into iCal on your computer and find that your Google calendar is there.
You will need to do a similar thing with your iOS device.
    1.  Settings > iCloud > Turn off 'Calendars'
    2.  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Delete Gmail Account
    3.  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Re-add Gmail Account
This should make it so that you can use your Google calendar and it will be synced to your Mac computer, iOS device, and the Internet (Google's Calendar Website).
You can see that this is in a sense a workaround in that you can't sync your iCal Home/Work calendars (or other calendars) created with iCloud to Google.  I'm thinking that's the problem I ran into before.  Anyway it works for me because I only need the one calendar and others are using Google that I need easy access to.
Let me know if you run into problems and remember you need to confirm that all your data is saved on the google calendar on-line (you can check through Google's website) before doing any of the steps above.

  • MacBook Pro/Thunderbolt Monitor blanking out

I have a MacBook Pro with 2 Thunderbolt monitors.  My system is connected up like this:
MacBook Pro (running in clamshell mode) -------> Thunderbolt Port on MBP -------> Thunderbolt Display ------> Built in Display Thunderbolt Cable ------>Thunderbolt Display 2.
I also have a Thunderbolt disk drive attached to a thunderbolt port on the back of display 2.
I have a couple of problems every now and then.  At times that second display blanks out for a second.  I have noticed, it is most likely to happen when I put some IO on that thunderbolt disk drive.  It just seems to me like the bandwidth of thunderbolt should be able to handle this.
Secondly.  Sometimes when I boot up, the system considers that second display as the first which screws up my screens.  I usually have to reboot to get it to work right.  I notice that if I boot up with my MBP open, the system always considers the 2nd monitor in the chain the first display. Seems like it would always default to the first monitor.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated,
    Rob

The Thunderbolt drive should be the first device on the chain, with the Displays being the last devices on the chain.
That should solve both of the problems.
If not, call back or post in the Apple Thunderbolt Display forum.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Application Install CD Blank on Macbook Pro

I have application install CD's created from Disk Images. They mount and install fine on my Power Mac running 10.5.8 Leopard. On my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, the disks mount as blank recordable disks. Why?

Update. I got around to making new disks from my saved images. Lucky I copied the originals. I moved the images to my MacBook Pro, just because I wanted to give my DVD drive a workout. I know my DVD drive is working fine because I just reinstalled MS Office X 2003, original Disk and it installed perfectly. I took a fresh Maxell CD-R and slipped it into the drive. The Drive spit it out without mounting. I tried a second, same issue. I then took the disks to my Power Mac. It still has the original Super Drive plus a second much newer Super Drive. The disks mounted perfectly on both drives. Leopard 10.5.8. My MacBook Pro is using SL 10.6.5. I made two new CD's on the Power Mac from the images. I then slipped the disks into the MacBook Pro and they mounted perfectly. I know my copies of the original disks were pre Leopard, possibly Panther. I'm puzzled once again about the quirky nature of my Macbook Pro's Super Drive in not recognizing the two fresh Maxell CD's Any thoughts? Should I be using RW disks and reformatting?

  • My MacBook Pro has a blank screen

Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix the blank screen on my MacBook Pro? I can hear it running and the lights on the keyboard works. I also can see the apple sign when starting it up but then I get the blank screen

    Hi sburkhalter,
It sounds like the MacBook Pro isn't starting up completely. Take a look at the article below, it has suggestions that should help resolve the startup issue.
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
