Google UK Search- Bizarre Behaviour - Help!

Up until yesterday I have been using Firefox 2.0.0.14 with Googlebar Toolbar installed on my Mac Pro running 10.4.11. When I have done a web search on a key word in the past I normally get a page of results and at the top of the page there is a button option to select results from 'the web' or 'pages from the UK'. This has been a great feature as I can limit the searches to the UK and it also works with 'Froogle', displaying product results from the UK in Pounds Sterling. All was fine until...
Yesterday, I searched for something via the Google Toolbar and all I got was an almost blank page apart from the usual Google banner with a search field containing the word I'd just searched for but with zero results. Beneath that is a blue banner with a text field in it also with the word I had just searched for. In the bottom left corner of Firefox the word 'Done' was visible which tells me the page is fully loaded. The only way I can get any results is to click on a link below the econd text field which says 'search within results'.
When I click on that I get another Google page with nothing on it except the Google logo, 'Search within results' beneath it, then a blank text field and a button next to it saying 'Search within results'. Above that it says 'There were about 7,000,000 Google results for '***********'. Use the search box below to search within these results. If I click on the 'Search witin results' button even with the field left blank I get a list of results in a slightly larger font size than the previous page. There are no buttons for options for 'the web' or 'pages from the UK' at the top of this page.
Options for searching, News, Maps, Images etc seem unaffected. 'Products/Froogle' is though as it no longer displays results from the UK , just the USA/dollars etc.
I have tried trashing Firefox and Google Toolbar and reinstalling but with the same problem persists.
I went to www.google.co.uk and tried a search from that page but with the same results.
Even more strangely is that I tried doing a Google search with Safari which is exactly the same, same result with Flock.
I have a MacBook running slightly older versions of Safari and Firefox which works absolutely fine.
If I am getting the same results with three different browsers and I'm not getting the same problem on my MacBook it has to be something to do with the computer (Mac Pro) itself doesn't it?
What can it be? I'm tearing my hair out trying to work out why it just stopped working. Can anybody throw any light on this?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Clea, many thanks for your offer of help.
The behaviour seems independant of Google Toolbar. Google Toolbar is only designed to work with Firefox and Flock but not Safari I believe. I can't remember installing Google Toolbar in Flock or whether it was installed as standard, I hardly ever use it to be honest. Even when using Safari and searching from www.google.co.uk page I get exactly the same result or lack of. Google Toolbar won't run in Safari as I said earlier.
Hard to see how Google Toolbar would effect Safari but here is a link to where I downloaded from: http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT3/intl/en/index.html
I have Google Toolbar installed independently on three different computers: Mac Pro, MacBook and a pretty old G3 iMac. The last two work fine it's just my main computer which is afflicted.
I haven't installed or updated any software as far as I remember that would coincide with this problem.
I created a test account as you suggested and the problem still occurs whilst logged in on both accounts.
I've tried emptying my cache in Firefox, deleted all cookies, I even trashed Firefox and all preferences I could find and reinstalled both Firefox and Google Toolbar but the problem still persists. I really don't understand what could be causing it if it's working fine with my other two computers on the same internet connection.
Any further ideas?
Many thanks again,
Steve

  • Help with removing images from Google image searches with Dreamweaver

    I made a sight in dreamweaver, and need to remove a page from that website with some old images. So I removed the link and moved the webpage from the root folder. And If I go into dreamweaver the page is blank showing the image has been removed.
    But the images are still showing up in google image searches even though I removed them in dreamweaver and re-uploaded the sight successfully. How do I remove them form the internet completely so they no longer show up in google images??

  • Google search keeps reverting to previous search terms. Help?

    I recently switched to Safari after Firefox became unusable. It's all good, 'cept I've found this problem with Google. After I make several searches in a row, when I click in the search bar, the text in there, and the results, revert back to the search-before-last. I hope that makes sense. Say for example I search for "Apple", then my brain changes direction and I search for "car hire". I decide I need to be more specific, and click in the search bar in order to add a location, and I just get sent back to my original search for "Apple". It's deeply irritating.
    I have turned off autofill and restarted Safari.
    Any advice. or failing that, sympathy, please? Thanks.

    I think I see an error in Google's javascript handle for Safari Clients:
    if(b!=a)d.href= google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=party+balloons&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sei=c3 dOT973JtDlggeto_DBAg&gbv= +b};
    maybeRedirectForGBV(document,location,"2");window.rwt=function(a,f,g,l,m,h,c,n,i ){return true};
    ---you can see on the first line where it says "party+balloons" , that was what I had typed in my browser search box in safari  (located in the upper corner of the browser window).
    basically what it is doing is comparing the contents of what is in the main google webpage search text box to the contents of what is in the browser searchbox. if they do not equal eachother then it redirects to whatever is in the browser text box.
    here is the scenrio. you go to the google website. you search for "maps" and a bunch of results come up. you still want to keep looking, but this time you instead choose to search using Safari's Search box. Instead of looking up "maps" you decide to look up "Geography."  it shows a lot of results for Geography.
    You then decide to search again on the main Google Search box (on the webpage) for "Vacation."
    Google compares the two searchboxs' contents "Vacation" to "Geography" . they don't match up...so Google decides that the Browser searchbox (which still contains the  old search keyword "Geography") takes precedence over it's own main website's searchbox (which is very goofy) and redirects to the results for "Geography" instead of the new search "Vacation."
    Because this javascript on Google is specified for only Safari Clients....this is why this doesn't happen when you search Google using Firefox. So, it's not Apple's fault.

  • I updated to Firefox 3.6.8 and now I get an anycolor start page that keeps popping up and my google toolbar search no longer works.

    Ever since updating to 3.6.8 I open firefox and get two tabs. One for my homepage and one which is an "Anycolor start page". Hugely annoying and can't stop the 2nd tab from popping up every time I start Firefox. Also my google toolbar search function no longer works. Type in a search and hit enter and nothing happens.

    I have exactly the same problem. I entered Firefox in safe mode and deleted AnyColor from my addons. But now when I click on the addon button this is what I get:
    "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623"
    But nothing happens and I have to reboot my computer because it freezes on this message. Damn, I wish I had not upgraded to Firefox 3.6.8
    Somebody please help! Thanks

  • Google Image Search Does Not Load, Among Other Websites

    I think this problem started a little bit after I upgraded to Leopard. I thought it was a problem with the wireless network I was using, but that wasn't it. I connected directly to my modem via ethernet cable, but to no avail. The problem also persists when I connect to my own home network through the Airport Extreme.
    My Google Image Search usually yields such results:
    http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1qs8.png
    Another webpage that I cannot load is deviantART. Sometimes I can get through with NoScript on, but even so the website layout doesn't load correctly.
    Pages that don't even load and result in a timeout are manga.clone-army.org and megatokyo.com.
    I can access these sites through a tunnel. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.16, but Safari is not able to load these pages either. I know that other computers, both Mac and PC are able to load the pages I cannot.
    Any help?

    Here's some tweaks that should speed up Firefox for you:
    Type about:config into firefox's address bar, hit return you will see all the current settings
    Scroll down to "network.http.pipelining" then ctrl-click on it and select "Toggle" to make it True
    Scroll down to "network.http.proxy.pipelining" then ctrl-click on it and select "Toggle" to make it True
    Scroll down to “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” then ctrl-click on it and select Modify and enter 30
    Then you need to add in a variable to the list, ctrl-click and select "New Integer". A menu will popup asking for you to enter the name of this integer. Enter "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
    Close the config window and try loading the problem URL again.

  • Google Custom Search not rendering, any ideas?

    Can anyone tell me why embedded HTML code for Custom Search supplied by Google wouldn't be rendering in the Muse in-app "Preview" or when previewing in the browser? There's no trace of it. Have tried pasting code directly and as a HTML object. Help anyone?
    I would have assumed it was a compatibility issue, but it should work without a problem according to the following blog post:
    http://www.muse-themes.com/blogs/news/7722357-embedding-a-search-bar-in-adobe-muse-google- custom-search

    I started from this page: http://monarchhousing.org/search-our-site/
    On the results page, which has no results visible, Firefox records this script error in the browser console:
    TypeError: google.search.Search.apiary3244 is not a function
    file: https://www.googleapis''.''com/customsearch/v1element
    line: 2
    After reloading the page, the function name changes:
    TypeError: google.search.Search.apiary9727 is not a function
    file: https://www.googleapis''.''com/customsearch/v1element
    line: 2
    I gather this is a randomly named function (makes it harder to search...). I can't figure out how this script file is called. Google has made it very complicated to debug. I suggest trying Google's support forum here:
    http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/customsearch

  • Google adsense search results not showing up

    I have a google adsense search engine that is supposed to search my site and post google ads at the top of the query.
    I copied and pasted the html into iWeb
    The search widget seems fine: http://www.onlinehighschool.org/SchoolSearch.html (the black one)
    But the separate page for results doesn't have anything even though the html was pasted there:
    try a search on the hyperlink to see.
    Any leads?

    FollowUp - Problem Solved.
    Just in case anyone else was experiencing the same issues, I pinpointed it down to a corrupted iTunes preference file - com.apple.iTunes.plist.
    I created a new user account, lauched iTunes and it worked fine, no black drop down window appearing, so I went back into my account and deleted this and relaunched iTunes and the drop down window showed all the search results again, not the black window as seen in my example image.
    Hope this helps others!

    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • How do I enable The Google Quick Search Box feature?

    The Google Quick Search Box on the toolbar no longer will search when entered. The search request registers but won't search. I have to go to Google.com in order to use the Google search engine. The quick search was handy and I'd like to have it back. Per Google I need to enable it by clicking on the "wrench", search and enable... but it's not there to enable. HELP!

  • I don't have access to Google Images Search since I installed the latest update for https everywhere (today)

    I have installed the https everywhere add-on a while ago.
    Since I've done this I've never been able to click on images each time I was doing a Google search from their first page of results ("search everything"), but I could still find images by going directly to Google Images search.
    Since I installed the latest update for https everywhere this morning, I simply cannot search a single image with Google, which is a problem as I'm a professional art historian.
    I get the message"Your search - rembrandt - could not be completed with the requested search options. Reset search tools".
    But resetting the search tools don't change anything. I'm working on a Mac, if it helps.

    I had the same problem although it was a previous update rather than this one that caused the problem. Just hadn't got round to doing something about it - was using Bing images instead.
    I searched for some answers this morning and seemed like most suggestions were a nuisance to try. Couldn't find 'Preferences button of HTTPS-Everywhere' as suggested above. Decided to check if No Script was blocking it. Sure enough. So problem is solved.
    Thought I'd put it out there in case it helps someone else. Appreciate that people are so helpful on here.

  • Integrate google desktop search with AIR application

    My requirement is to integrate google desktop search with my AIR application.If any one has any idea on this, please help me.

    Yes,
    I think you can use the ImageSnapShot class, and thern use the bitmap data from it as you desire.
    You can use the snapshot to take a grab of any element/child in your application or presumably you can take a snapshot of the main application if you want the whole lot.
    I used this method recently to print a screen state.
    var imgWidth:Number = 400;
    var img:SWFLoader = new SWFLoader();
    img.id = "appSnapShot";
    var imageSnap:ImageSnapshot = ImageSnapshot.captureImage(myScreenInstance as IBitmapDrawable);
    var imageByteArray:ByteArray = imageSnap.data as ByteArray;
    img.load(imageByteArray);
    img.scaleContent = true;
    img.width = imgWidth;
    img.maintainAspectRatio = true;
    application.addElement(img);
    Maybe that will help.

  • Search function in Help not working in any application

    The Search function is not working in any application's Help. Upon entering the terms I need help for I get a hang at "Searching..." but never any result. This problem started sometime in the last year or so. Prior to that the search function in Help worked fine. My network connectivity is excellent.
    I recently reinstalled OS X 10.5 but I'm sure the problem existed before that and persisted after the reinstall.
    The reinstall was due to upgrading to 10.7 and only then finding that I had lost needed functionality, but I don't think this has anything to do with the current problem. All other aspects of Help seem to be working fine
    I don't find any reference to this problem anywhere so I'm hoping someone can help with my Help(!) problem. Thanks in advance.

    Try running your Leopard install disk again, as well as the 10.5.8 combo updater. This might reinstall any 'missing bits'.
    You can do this without deleting the hard drive, just install straight over your existing system, but close all applications and external devices first.
    Or you could also do this via an Archive and Instal:
    How to Archive & Install:

    and this also:

    This document explains how to correctly reinstall a prior version of Mac OS X in the event that other troubleshooting does not resolve an issue:

    Best Regards,

    You need to upgrade your copy of MS Office. You're using a version that is 8 years old (at least). You can buy Office 2011, which will work. You could also get a copy of Pages from the App Store, which is cheaper and will open Word files (though not perfectly). Or you could get a free Office clone, like OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

  • How can I remove google custom search bar from about:newtab page

    When I open Firefox or a new tab I have it set to about:newtab which is great and all. Just recently I noticed a Google search bar on the new tab page though, that it immediately sets my cursor to. I prefer typing in the normal address bar at top. If I don't think to take that extra tedious step to click on the address bar before typing it opens to Google Custom Search Engine. Which does not have the images, maps, etc tabs along top. Making a simple task of researching something or other purpose just that much more annoying to do, because I'll have to type into the address bar anyways.
    So I was hoping there is a way to remove this annoying Google Custom Search Bar from my about:newtab?
    Or at the least make my cursor start in the address bar, not the Google Custom Search Bar.
    This is a screen-cap of the Search Bar. http://gyazo.com/d75ccdea9b9d0bb4a3d347664be73771
