Google Wallet

I would like to use my phone for payments via NFC.  Verizon only offers ISIS, a total bust.  When will Google Wallet be available?

Explain what difference is Google doing from what MS did? By them locking out the secure element they are stopping potential competing bodies from entering the market.
snippets from what you linked.
The commission's decision to fine Microsoft was not challenged by the court, saying the company had blocked fair access to its markets.[24] E.U. competition commissioner, Joaquín Almunia, has said that such fines may not be effective in preventing anti-competitive behavior and that the commission now preferred to seek settlements that restrict businesses' plans instead. As such, 'The New York Times called the Microsoft decision "a decision that could mark the end of an era in antitrust law in which regulators used big fines to bring technology giants to heel."[24]
In January 2009, the European Commission announced it would investigate the bundling of Internet Explorer with Windows operating systems from Microsoft, saying "Microsoft's tying of Internet Explorer to the Windows operating system harms competition between web browsers, undermines product innovation and ultimately reduces consumer choice."[28][29] In response, Microsoft announced that it would not bundle Internet Explorer with Windows 7 E, the version of Windows 7 to be sold in Europe.[30][31][32][33][34][35]
On 16 December 2009, the European Union agreed to allow competing browsers, with Microsoft providing a "ballot box" screen letting users choose one of twelve popular products listed in random order.[36] The twelve browsers were Avant, Chrome, Firefox, Flock, GreenBrowser, Internet Explorer, K-Meleon, Maxthon, Opera, Safari, Sleipnir, and Slim[37] which are accessible viaBrowserChoice.eu.
I willing to bet money the reason why wallet isn't in Europe is because they'll get the same fate as MS did.  If they did they'd have to open up the secure element to allow competition to flourish.
some references that fit in what I was saying about Google blocking the secure element.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft
It was further alleged that this restricted the market for competing web browsers (such as Netscape Navigator or Opera) that were slow to download over a modem or had to be purchased at a store. Underlying these disputes were questions over whether Microsoft altered or manipulated its application programming interfaces (APIs) to favor Internet Explorer over third party web browsers, Microsoft's conduct in forming restrictive licensing agreements with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and Microsoft's intent in its course of conduct.

  • Is this the start... Verizon is blocking Google Wallet which is very nice, and you probably don't know they are creating their own Verizon Wallet

I have been with this company for over 10 years and frankly I always overlooked one thing wasn't to keen on and that was some of the services Verizon offered on their website which many of the account related services they have as apps so you can view from your phone are good and useful.  I have been an Android user since the first Moto Droid to the Incredible and Inc2, then I though I was gonna go iphone, until I was able to use one for a month.  Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad it was my brothers 4G on another network when he upgraded to the 4GS.  Anyway no real problems other than Android just has more to offer so I went with the Nexus Galaxy and stayed with Verizon, after I was flipping a coin to go to Sprint.  Anyway the reason I am leaving Verizon is due to their attempt to create apps to try to compete with googles apps and Verizon charges...  you can find most for free from the droid market(which is the Play store now) such as Navigation.  The free Google Nav is awesome, I also have google voice(free)  so I get text messages emailed to me and vmails emailed and texted to me as well as being able to listen straight from phone by pushing play by the missed call.  Verizon continutes to create these apps that also cost money and aren't near as good.  I actually feel bad for the people who think the VZ nav is in fact the google nav.  Now they are blocking a new service of Google's called Google Wallet.  It's free and really cool, but Verizon blocks you from installing it or using it and Verizon is spending over a 100,000,000 dollars to create their own Wallet APP  that i'm sure won't be free.  So it's not that one app as to why I am leaving, its a number of things that as an experienced user and add the fact that  I work in the tech industry, in sales that I Verizon taking advantage of customers, and I don't work that way or like it.   Okay you go buy a verizon phone, it will have the VZ Nav right there on the home screen, however there will be no google Nav, and for newbies they usually think this is the navigation everyone talks about.  You have to go download the Google Maps which is a turn by turn navigation always up to date and is awesome.  I watch my kid driving down the road at all times for free.   My point is now that their blocking Google Wallet because they are creating there own wallet, which won't be as good, and probably cost money to even spend money meaning they will charge for it.  What is the next brilliant thing that Google comes out with  that you can intergrate into your Google services.    So what is the point of trying to compete with Google on apps, I mean the Verizon wallet?  Why it makes no sense.  Why block an app thus not giving you the luxery.  They have their reasons of course such as security, and other reasons that it could cause problems but, hey if you dare to spend the outrageous amount of money to activate your hostspot to connect your computer wirelessly in a park.  75% of the people who do this are going to be on an unsecured network that anyone can connect to even with security turned on.  So they say there worried about security on the wallet app, because someone may cold get access to your small amount that most people keep on the google wallet but the wireless hotspot is putting much more that money out there. it's putting personal things and files on your computer out there.  I just dont' get why they can't provide their songs and ring tones and apps that allow you to see you data usage and leave the apps for the Google market.  For you who don't know please download google maps and you will have an awesome navivation.  Also google talk, voice, chat, and there apps on the google market for free such as a punch clock for time.  I saw one for over $14 on the verison app store.  So stick to what you are good at ,and don't block apps that other companies aren't blocking including at&T now, and they were in on the $100,000,000 to create this app along with Tmoblie and Verizon.  I use an android because of the capapbilites that google gives you, and the apps that they offer for free or no money.  Go look in the Verizon apps and see how much you will pay.  Most that cost money come preinstalled on your phone so all you have to do is use it and you start getting charged.  This is a 3 year decision making.  I don't like that people can easily get charged for services without even knowing just because the app was installed and they used it once.  Just stay with what your good at and let the android users rightly use the google apps.  After all Google Saved your business if you really want to think about it.  If you didn't have the android OS, how many sales would you be getting?  Where would your company be.  This app was developed by Google which means it ties into everything else such as making online payments with the google card.  Blocking APPS developed by the developer of the Operating System that single handedly changed  the game, and has Made  you as a company far better off than you would have ever been had they not developed android.  Not a good Idea.  Bite the hand that feeds you.

    SOLVED!!!!!
    This is the app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dictionary.appender/id650562573?mt=8
I emailed the maker of the app and he said to just follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094
File share the .dictionary file to your ipad and then add it from the list of addable languages.  It took a minute for it to show up on my ipad but it DID work.  It is working with iBooks.
    Happy reading.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.

  • Verizon - please stop blocking Google Wallet

VZ - I want to use Google Wallet tap and pay on my new Samsung Galaxy Note 3.  When will Verizon stop blocking this feature?  I do not want to use ISIS and as a consumer I should have that choice.

Um well I've got a brand new Moto X ( unrooted, regular edition, straight from VZW ) and I just installed the latest version of the Wallet app ( from a Nexus 5 that I found online ) and boom Google Wallet in all it's glory. This is due to the security system that kitkat uses and makes Wallet available to everyone. So I guess get a device on 4.4 and get Wallet

  • K1 - Google Android Market Missing Tabs for Movies and Music

Am I missing something or does the Android Market on the K1 not offer Movies and Music? I have tabs for Apps and Books, but there is no way to rent movies nor buy songs through the market. As a work-around, I can go to market.android.com and rent movies and buy music, but for some reason it's not available within the Market App. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
Just so you know, I have a new K1, I've run all the system updates, and I'm not rooted.
    Thanks in advance.

That explains the versioning of the Android Market app on K1. I thought it was odd that it was 1.0.28... whereas Google support always refer to version to Android Market version 3.3+.
I've been looking for the latest Market to get the PIN/parental controls. On a side-note/rant -- With the existing Android Market, my younger one has already made some in-app purchase charges playing with a game from GAMEVIL (BTW for K1 owners DO NOT DOWNLOAD GAMEVIL games ie AirPenguin if you have young ones. Their games make it easy to purchase items and they were not refunding it.  Apparently I'm not alone if you look at the 1 start reviews. I've already lost $$$ which I'm trying to get back... In the meantime I advise anyone with Google Wallet accounts to remove their Credit Card)
Lenovo, please put an updated version of Android Market in your next update!!

  • ChromeCast Google Play credit

BestBuy has a $20 Google Play credit for the ChromeCast (1/16/15).
one section of the Best Buy description states:
"Good for one $20 Google Play credit"
    whereas another section states:
       "$20 Google Play Credit
Enjoy $20 in streaming movies from Google Play when you buy Chromecast."
question i have is whether or not the $20 credit has to be used explicity for a movie or can you use the credit for books, software, etc. from the Google Play store.
if it simply goes into one's Google Wallet than i'm not sure how they could distinguish what type of media (software, books, movies, etc.) the credit is used for.
thinking about getting the ChromeCast but not sure i want to get it if i have to used the credit for movies.
    thanks!

    Hi there gwa000-
As I understand it, Google does not differentiate their credits between types of media you can purchase through the Google Play service.  Essentially what that means is that the $20 should be able to be applied to any media available through Google Play to purchase.
    I hope that this helps!

  • Multiple Tablet Z questions

Got my Tablet Z on Saturday to replace a Toshiba Excite 10. Biggest reason for the Xperia Tablet Z was weight (finally Sony does a tablet Sony Style...) Biggest concern with the Xperia Tablet Z is heavily skinned Android and an expectation/fear that Sony will not support Android/follow the changes to it in a timely way. This is a premium priced tablet. Doesn't seem like too much to ask. My benchmark for supporting Android is my Galaxy Nexus... Maybe AOSP? Anyway, on to why I'm posting:
    Some questions:
Chrome bookmarks always opens to Mobile bookmarks / Sony--any way to change besides deleting Sony folder?
Email delete always confirms--any way to turn off?
Backup & restore says it can backup to the cloud--really? how?
had to disable the shipped Calendar app and install Google Calendar to get latest Calendar features--so sad...
using Smart Connect View event as shipped: it starts SensMe when dropped in the cradle; but when I remove tablet from cradle, TuneIn Radio is current running app--why??!?
any way to soft reset it? what's the thing that looks like a switch between the USB port and the serial number barcodes?
    Bonus:
(probably rhetorical) I've read about a "timely" update to 4.2--4.2 has been out for almost nine months, wouldn't "timely" have been at first ship?
white paper for devs lists "eCompass" app but can't find...--what is eCompass?
white paper lists "Google Wallet" app but isn't installed/won't work--guessing this is a WiFi vs. LTE tablet issue?!?
Thanks in advance for any info!

well, hate to burst your bubble, but most sony update came late.
Chrome bookmarks always opens to Mobile bookmarks / Sony--any way to change besides deleting Sony folder?
you mean the bookmarks? or the homepage? you can change your homepage by going to browser>settings>general.
Email delete always confirms--any way to turn off?
    - what email client are you using? try going to the settings and see if there are options to change, and be aware that if sync is active and you deleted an email on your computer, it would also delete it on the phone.

using Smart Connect View event as shipped: it starts SensMe when dropped in the cradle; but when I remove tablet from cradle, TuneIn Radio is current running app--why??!?
try to see the settings on the app, you can remove or disable the the app from firing up when removed from the dock.
any way to soft reset it? what's the thing that looks like a switch between the USB port and the serial number barcodes?
    settings>privacy>settings reset

the tablet was designed and made 9 months before the release of 4.2, so i guess they stick to 4.1 than to change everything at last moments. sony has been struggling with "timely" updates,
white paper for devs lists "eCompass" app but can't find...--what is eCompass?
some apps are not available on all market areas, you may try searching on google play.
white paper lists "Google Wallet" app but isn't installed/won't work--guessing this is a WiFi vs. LTE tablet issue?!?
    nope ,same reason above.

  • Have you been successful porting your number and keeping unlimited data?

Hi , I am trying to save money by getting rid of my texting plan($20) and having Google Voice as my SMS provider. I want to keep my number so I will port my number to GV. For a 1-time fee of $20. The Problem is that during the process some people lose their UNLIMITED DATA package. I, of course don't want this to happen. I have searched the interwebs and found that this forum had the good information on it.
    https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779321?start=0&tstart=0
    https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779321?start=80&tstart=0
See post # 3 and # 85 for detailed instructions. I was in the process of doing it but Google Wallet denied my transaction because I needed to verify my account. This process takes 3 days. So I will wait and try again. I would like to know if the rest of the verizon community has been succesful or has regretted doing this.
I feel that this process should work and would like to keep this discussion open so other people can do the same. We all know sms and voice mins are cheap and carriers are just milking money from data plans.
PS. I felt # 85 was really straight forward
Joined the community to thank the OP - and to add in another success story. Before I start my 'experience share', I think its pertinent to mention that I have the Galaxy S4 [Android]
Started the GV Port on Monday at about 3PM. Provided GV with personal details, phone number, billing PIN (you can set one up or change your current PIN on the VZW website after logging on to your account) and my account number (excluded the -00001 after my account number as suggested by other posters on this thread). Google charged me $20 to complete the port.
On Tuesday morning, approximately at about 11AM, I logged into my VZW account and requested a new number (VZW's website states that this process is free if done online). At this time, my GV Port status showed "Number Change Pending". Once the new number was assigned to me by VZW (the number is issued instantly), I had to turn my phone off and wait a few minutes before turning it back on. When I turned my phone back on, it showed that the new number was active (no VZW notifications - just tried a test call from my landline).
Almost 24 Hours down to the minute (so at about 3PM on Tuesday), I got an email from GV stating that my port was complete. On the GV website, I then added in my new number (under Settings>Phones), and set all calls (and texts) to forward to my new number. GV walked me through a couple of programming steps - and confirmed that my GV calls would be forwarded to my new VZW number. Please note that if you want GV to pick up your VM's, then you will need to activate Google voicemail on the GV website (Settings>Phones). Else, VZW voicemail will end up picking up your calls - and a message like "this user has a VM box that has not been set up" will play.
I also opened up the GV app on my phone and changed the settings to "Make all calls through Google Voice". Also, I turned off the 'Messaging' app, and set the GV app as the default app for handling all texts.
As of now, I can make and receive calls via the setup described above. Folks receiving calls from me see my GV number on their displays (so no need to update folks with my new number), and when I receive calls on my GV number, my VZW phone displays the number of the person trying to reach me (so no updating my contacts list). Low priced international calls, desktop-based texting, unlimited storage of texts/VM's/call-logs, here I come!
My texts arent working yet, but GV states that it takes about 3 days before texting becomes active. When it does, I'm hoping that all texts will be routed via the GV app (I'm fairly certain that it will)
    Other things to note:
Banking Apps: Some banking apps that require verification codes to be sent via text might stop working. I just got an email from BOFA this morning asking me to reverify my mobile number. Need to fix this once GV texting becomes active
Messaging: Existing texts on your device cannot be backed up/imported into GV. That said, Google Play has a couple of free apps that backup your entire message archive under a separate label within your Gmail account
Hope this helps someone else out there in taking the plunge. Seems like the process is fairly straightforward unless you decide to skip some steps or if you are impatient and try to change things too quickly (I would really urge you against skipping steps, hurrying things up, etc. GV is completely automated, and getting "support" is almost impossible).
    All the best!"

You won't lose your unlimited data as long as your account stays active and you don't purchase a subsidized phone. I just did this yesterday and it took just a few minutes over 24 hours to port my number over to GV. I still have unlimited data. I pretty much followed the instructions you have above except I waited about 7 hours to get a new number from VZW just to make sure there were no hiccups. VZW says you may get some overages if you change your number immediately as opposed to on the first day of your billing cycle because they prorate your minutes and texts used. Luckily I have unlimited everything so it didn't make a difference for me. I'm planning on going over to T-Mobile. My home is a dead zone for cell phones and I always have a weak signal and sometimes don't get my calls. I figure if I'm going to pay for an unsubsidized phone, I might as well go with a company that has wifi calling and a cheaper unlimited plan. I pay $94/mo before taxes with VZW; I'll only be paying $59.50 with T-Mobile for the same plan with 2.5 GB tethering included. T-Mobile here in LA is pretty good and even if I don't get LTE, I can fall back on their HSPA+ network, which is way better than VZW's crippled 3G network. No regrets porting over. The ONLY way I'll stay with VZW is if they allow me to keep my unlimited data (not going to do Verizon Max) and get a subsidized phone. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW VERIZON?

  • ALERT: CVS disabled NFC terminal to block Apple Pay in support of other Moblie payment systems

CVS has shut down their NFC machines in an attempt to block Apple Pay and Google wallet to support QR code wallet system with other major retail partners like Walmart and BestBuy.
Their technology not even close to being secure. Be sure to file complaints to CVS customer relations online. Just an FYI for you Apple pay folks who are trying to pay in CVS. It won't work. Lol. Plenty of articles online about it. Just a heads up for all you Apple Pay enthusiast.

I filed my complaint Friday with CVS due to the Retailer's own interest driving the Merchant Customer Exchange CurrentC Mobile Payment Product.  The Retailers primary focus is to reduce their payments to Visa and MasterCard.  The CurrentC Mobile Payment System is cumbersome at the Point-of-Sale, require QR Codes to be scanned by the Store Clerk or the Customer.  A second major focus of CurrentC is to collect personal information about the Customer for use in Retailer Marketing, unfortunately this data even includes personal Health Data.  I don't see Consumers flocking to the Retail Arena to use CurrentC.  The CurrentC Mobile Payment System began design and development back in 2011, but is not to market as yet.

  • Samsung UE40D8005

    Hi,
I consider buying the Samsung UE40D8005 for the living room, and I want to use it together with my iMac 27 or maybe a new Mac Mini as a media centre, both for streaming content and for downloaded movies.
The question is, can I expect good picture quality, both when looking at movies, and if I want to use the TV as monitor for the iMac or Mac Mini?
When Googling, I see several posts on poor quality using UE40D8005 with PS3, during to some Samsung image processing, and if disabled, the picture quality is said to be poor as well.
    Any experience or recommendation?
    Regards,
    Erik
BTW, my idea was to use XBMC as user interface for the media center

A lot of carriers remove features from phones in the name of exclusivity and security.  Remember when Verizon wouldn't allow Google Wallet?  Now they have no choice since ISIS was bought by GW.  There are other browsers, though IDK if Opera, Dolphin, etc...  allow  the finger scanner function.
AT&T has removed the Download Booster feature that simultaneously uses Wi-Fi and LTE data to deliver faster speeds; the Simple Sharing feature that lets you more easily share large files with friends; Microsoft’s OneDrive application, which came with 100GB of free cloud storage; and the Smart Manager app that Samsung designed to make managing battery use and storage on your device easier.
Verizon has also removed Smart Manager and OneDrive… and every other Microsoft app that was preloaded. In other words, if you buy a Galaxy S6 from Verizon, you won’t get OneDrive, Skype, OneNote and Office Mobile preloaded onto the device. Unlike AT&T, Verizon’s Galaxy S6 does come with Download Booster and Simple Share enabled, however.
T-Mobile is limiting your ability to remove S-Finder and Quick Connect from the phone’s drop-down menu. You also can’t disable the capacitive lights on T-Mobile’s Galaxy S6 as you can on AT&T’s version of the device. Other than this, though, it seems T-Mobile has left the device largely intact.
Sprint has removed Download Booster and has disabled Wi-Fi calling as a default setting, although it’s possible to change that easily by enabling it in the settings. Like T-Mobile, Sprint has mostly left the device alone and it does give you access to the Microsoft apps Samsung promoted during its Galaxy S6 launch, including the 100GB of OneDrive data.
I understand that the function you seek is not explicitly listed above, but that list is not all-inclusive either.
