Google - web/images/maps bar is on top, not on side

google search results used to have the news/images/maps listings on the left of the results page.
now they are on the top of the results page.
this is not the case in chrome, so I think something changed, but I cannot figure it out.
I know my 8 year old was playing with google.org or some such to show his name instead of google, but I have not found what he may have done.
I re-set the defaults, no joy. nothing in the plug-ins......
is it OK to also ask if there is a way to remove the google services bar ? all these tool bars take full lines. only the microsoft START line is compact with multiple results on one bar.
Thanks !

hello dave, i'm not sure if it applies in your case, but from time to time google enables changes in the user interface for some of its users in order to test new designs and gather comparative data.

The Firefox 29 beta release has the Australis interface that looks different than the user interface in the Firefox 28 and previous releases.<br>The Firefox menu button is gone and you now have the three bar Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar.
You can install the Classic Theme Restorer extension to restore some functionality that was lost with the arrival of the Australis code in Firefox 29.

  • I accidentally deleted the web address input bar at the top of the screen as well as the area that says things such as 'File' 'View' 'History' etc... how do I get it back?

I've tried deleting firefox and redownloading it, but it won't come back. All I have at the top now are bookmarks and open tabs, it's getting really annoying when I want to post or share a web address and I can't because the bar is gone.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Hit the '''Alt''' key to show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark.

  • The search bar in the top right hand side of my screen works fine, but the main search bar in the middle of the home screen doesn't at all; do you know how I can fix this?

I can access bookmarked pages, pages that are on a saved RSS feed, and can search the web using the top right-hand bar on my screen. However, the main bar, in the center of the home page (not sure of the correct name) will not do anything - whether I press search, or hit enter on my keyboard. There also appears to be another bar underneath that, which I can press, but it remains useless.
My Dad is running Firefox 4 on his computer, and has showed me what it is meant to look like. I can therefore conclude that there is definitely something up with mine.
I am currently using Firefox 4 with my laptop, which runs Windows 7.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 4, but the problem still remains. I am not keen to use Internet Explorer, purely because I have bookmarked so many pages on the previous version of Firefox but also because I get on very well with the whole layout etc.
If it comes to it, I am willing to take the risk of losing my bookmarks, but if there are any suggestions at '''''all''''' of how I could possibly fix this problem, I would welcome them.

    Go to this address: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?country=AU
Item 24 lists 3 installable major search engines for Australia.
You can also restrict your search in Google by including ''country:au'' or ''location:au'' or ''city:perth'' (for example) in your search terms. Example: ''city:sydney plumbers'' in the Google search box will list plumbers in cities named sydney.

  • Image maps error with IE 6

    Hallo!
I have a problem with Internet Explorer 6 (Windows XP) and only 2 image maps with rollovers on a page with a total of 6 image maps.
    This is the page:
    http://www.eqmultimedia.it/paolobisi/home_2009f.html
Everything is OK on Mac OS X (Safari and Firefox) and IE 7 on Windows XP and Vista.
ONLY the 2 image maps named "ART FOR SALE" and "CONTACT" do not work with IE 6.
    This is my workflow:
    - Page design in Photoshop.
    - Slices, image maps, rollovers and remote rollovers with ImageReady
    - Save html page and images folder from ImageReady
    - Import html page and images folder in Golive CS
    - Check and correct ALL the links in the image-map code generated with ImageReady
    - Export site from Golive (with Flatten Script Library) and FTP transfer on Unix server.
I suspect that the image-map code is not FULLY loaded by IE6 and for this reason only 2 image maps on the page do not works.
Any suggestion will be very appreciated.
Thank you and sorry for my English!

  • RH8 image map problem

I created an image map back in RoboHelp 6 and it worked perfectly. When I converted my project recently to RoboHelp 8, the image map pop-ups are not working correctly. I've checked the properties of the image map and they are correct. But the pop-up boxes do not display correctly. I'm going to attached an example of how the same one displays in RH6 and RH8 and a screen shot of my settings.
Can anyone help me with this?

After much trial and error testing around this image map issue, I cannot seem to find a fix for image maps within RoboHelp 8. No matter what I've tried (and it was a lot), nothing seems to fix the image map problem. Even creating a new image map on a new page with totally different info, pop up pages, image, etc. and turning OFF all breadcrumbs - the image map does not display correctly once generated (nor in preview).
I have found a VERY TEDIOUS workaround for this (that I'm not happy about). If I take my original pop-up topic htm pages (9 of them) from my RoboHelp 6 project and the original eHlpDhtm.js file from RH6 and place them in my output Help file from RH8 (overwriting the RH8 with the RH6 files), then the image map works correctly.
The eHlpDhtm.js file has many more scripts in it than just the image map triggers, so I'm not sure what all else I'm affecting when I'm fixing one problem (i.e. not sure how many more problems I'm creating at the same time when fixing one problem.)
It's almost like the "breadcrumbs" feature in RH8 has broken the image maps feature in RH8.
I'm still up for more suggestions as how to fix this if anyone has any ideas.

The bar at the top of the page wich displays ,WEB, IMAGES. VIDIO ect is now with a black background which is hard to see,why would the colour have changed and can I change it back?

I did some investigation yesterday and found that is is caused by a change made by Google.
Google regularly does some experiments and makes changes.

  • I downloaded the web developer tool bar and after using it my images are gone. I use google and a home page and the big google is gone. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it but I still don't have any images. How can I get them back?

Two days ago I downloaded the web developer tool bar (aus2.mozilla.com). I tried to use it but gave up. I deleted the tool bar.
I don't have any images anymore. I use Google.com as my home page (default) and the large GOOGLE isn't there anymore. I've also noticed some of the sites I use don't have the continue or next or enter keys anymore. It seems the only thing I have now is the text.

Are you sure you are looking at the Google page?? In Firefox 4.0 the default homepage / Start Page in Firefox was changed to '''about:home''' which looks a lot like the former www.google.com/firefox homepage.

Thanks to jscher and cor-el I now have the Google home page that I wanted.
    I was not blocking gstatic.com or ssl.gstatic.com
    I looked at:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Website_colors_are_wrong
I think items 2 and 3 fixed my problem. item 2 is the stronger candidate.
My attempt to improve the display for my old eyes - contrast and font size was not very successful.
I Checked these four items carefully from "website colors are wong.
1 (Firefox) View -> Page Style should not be set to "No Style"
Page style was set to wiki
2 "Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colors" check "Allow pages to use their own colors, instead of my selections above"
This item was NOT checked. It is now checked.
3 (Windows users) Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Accessibility -> Display -> uncheck "Use High Contrast", restart the application
This item was checked. I un- checked it. I think this fixed the problem.
4 (Windows users) Right-click the Firefox shortcut -> Properties -> Compatibility -> uncheck "Run in 256 colors", restart the application
    This item was not checked.

  • Don't like the Navigation Bar? Try an Image Map.

I understand the simplicity of the Navigation Bar, but being unable to even move the hyperlinks, let alone change the font without resorting to hacking XML, struck me as too simple. I decided not to use it, instead opting for a hyperlink image map, which is really easy to make using iWeb. I put up directions here:
    http://web.mac.com/jadespace/iWeb/1/Fetish/BEC79E6E-E82F-4AE3-9964-6BA510D46F1E. html

The image bit is quite a good idea. I had created menus on my page, for the same reason as I wanted my own fonts. It all works perfectly until I decided to add some flags to differentiate the same pages in different languages and I placed my flags in the top area of the page.
I spent hours trying to understand why they wouldn't work, changing opacity, location, size, until I moved them enough to realise that the top area is restricted to link generated by iweb and if you attempt to place your link to high, it will work in the iweb program but will not publish...
about 2.5 cm from the top are banned from publishing links

  • I have a 2 inch gray bar across the top of my home page now after dragging a few windows around my desk top. I'm not sure if it's a mozilla thing or google thing but it just appeared and I would like to get rid of it. g

My home page is just www.google.com with a search box and a picture of some planets as a background from my computer. While I was dragging the restored down browser window, I slipped with my mouse and now I have a light gray two inch bar across the top of my background picture. It's below the; Search-Images-YouTube-News-Gmail-More icons. When I right click on it and select inspect Element (Q) it says div#gbx1.gbqfh in three different colors. I would like to get rid of it, but I don't know if it's a google or Mozilla issue. I know google has been changing things so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a coincidence.

Is there any text in that gray bar?
I see some buttons on it, do they have a tooltip?

Most people refer to it as the "address bar icon", which

No reason to apologize. I know that sometimes finding the
    right words
can be difficult if you don't actually know what to search
    for. In this
case it just seemed quite easy and straightforward to me ...
