GoPro 120 fps footage lags in premier pro help!

So I've filmed action sports mostly in 720p at 120 fps but when I import those files into premier pro it becomes extremely laggy (anything 60fps and under works fine), I have been forced use the go pro studio app  to import and convert the video files into a useable format, but in the process it drops the frame rate 60fps and in turn I cannot achieve the same level of slow mo I could with 120 fps. Please help I don't know what to do, but I inevitably want awesome clean slow mo footage!
Regards,
Elliott

Thanks, but is it possible to use it directly through premier without converting it through go pro?

  • Low FPS on new, beefy Mac Pro, help!

I just got a new Mac Pro, and as an afterthought I picked up an x1900 upgrade kit. the original system had 2 7300 cards, and they were in slots 1 and 4. I got the upgrade kit and plugged it into slot 2. The 7300s are still in there, but not connected to displays. I connected my 30" monitor and loaded up World of Warcraft.
Now, this is a beefy machine, 2 quad core 3 GHz CPUs, 8G RAM, and less than two weeks old, and I'm seeing really really low performance, graphically. In WoW, based on http://www.barefeats.com/octopro2.html, as well as consultation with a friend who has a similar system (x1900, 2.6GHz CPUs, ?G RAM), I would expect north of 100 FPS in WoW with the settings pegged, but I'm seeing more like 25-30, even at low settings (FSGE off, low resolution, 1x multisampling, for those who know the game). What's sad is that my MacBook Pro laptop, driving the _same monitor_ on an 8600 GT graphics card, can outperform the Mac Pro. So I assume I'm doing something wrong.
Anybody know what might be causing poor performance here? It's a brand new x1900, and I'm not seeing graphical artifacts, just low performance, so I assume it's not a cooling issue. Could it matter that I still have the empty 7300s hooked up, or that the x1900 isn't in slot 1? Any other thoughts about what might be wrong? I'm desperate, so any help appreciated.

Very interesting. So, I'm a Mac Neophyte -- can you (or someone else) expand this for me a little? What is going wrong, and what are the steps I need to take to fix it? In particular, it seems you are suggesting that I fire up this Expansion Slot Utility and change some settings that will correct this problem.
    A) Is that in fact what you mean?
    B) Which settings, and to what values?
    C) I wasn't expecting the 7300s to help, I just mentioned them in case their existence or positioning might be hurting. Does your final paragraph mean that I should move my x1900 to slot 1 to take advantage of the 16x (I dont' know what that number means, incidentally, but I assume bigger is better), or simply that I need to change the setting on the x1900's slot to also be 16x?
    Thanks!

  • Footage will just not play in Premier Pro CS 5

I am importing footage into Adobe Premier Pro CS 5 version on a Mac 10.6, but it doesn't matter what file format I convert it into or what sequence settings I try I cannot get the footage to play! It's recorded on a Sony Handycam HDR-XR200E in AVCHD format as an MTS file. I have converted it into .mov, avi and mpeg4 formats but still nothing seems to work! It's not a trial version of CS 5 so the AVCHD should not be a problem. I have also tried all the sequence settings and nada! The footage jumps for 2 seconds and then just freezes.
Not sure how to proceed. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

tamzynd, what are the specs of your mac? sounds like Premiere is choking on the footage.
Can you play other type of vision (e.g. a plain old AVI file from a DV camera)?
is your footage on the internal drive or on an external disk?

  • Premier Pro CS6 Update error

    Hi Forum,
This problem has hung around for months. I have spent days and days over many months trying to get a solution from Adobe but all efforts have failed.
THE ISSUE: When I attempt to update Premier Pro (Help/Updates ...) I get an error from Adobe saying "The Update Server is not responding or the internet firewall settings may be incorrect."
I am only running a software firewall (Bitdefender) and I am not getting any reports from it that an application is trying to open a port, nor can I see any attempt by an adobe server to communicate.  In any case, I have uninstalled the firewall several times but still get the server error message. It seems plain the problem is at the Adobe end.
    What can I do?
    Does anyone know?

You can manually download and install the updates.

  • 120 FPS 1080p GoPro Preview Premiere Pro vs GoProStudio, Why?

    Hey there,
i have some Trouble with my GOPro 1080p 120fps Footage.
I am strugeling with this for hours now.
    System Specs:
    Full HD Panel
    Intel Core i7-3537U 2 GHz
    AMD Radeon HD 8570M
    6144 MB  , PC3-12800, DDR3
    Samsung SSD PM841 256GB
I now that you need a bit of power to play back this footage.
WMP is playing it fluently ( CPU usage 40 to 50%)
When i add the clip to GoPro Studio the Preview is fluently in full quality. ( CPU Usage 70-80% )
But when i import the footage to premiere pro cc the preview is super laggy. Even when i set the preview quality to
1/4 and still image quality to 1/4 its still laggy. Not editable.
I tried to set the Render Engine to GPU. But still the same Problem.
Any Ideas or Tips on how i could fix this Problem?
    Thank You very much

No problem. When you click sequence > sequence settings, what does your editing mode say? I use AVCHD 1080p square pixel. You can change this to 'custom' which will give you more control over the settings if you need to, but if you use the method I described earlier then you shouldn't need to change anything. Maybe if some of your videos are 2.7k or 4k resolution mixed with 1080p videos then you could play with the settings.
Just remember that if you start a new project and have for example, four videos shot at 1080p and one at 4k, if you drag and drop the 4k video to the 'new item' bin then your sequence will match the 4k resolution settings and when you drag the other 1080p videos on the sequence time line, they will not fill the screen and would need to be 'scaled' in to fit the screen, thus making them look terrible. The best way would be to drag n drop the 1080p video(s) and then include the 4k video on the timeline and just 'scale' / 'crop' it to fit the screen.
    All the best!

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • Final Cut Pro X doesn't seem to recognize 120 fps

I hust bought a GoPro Hero 2 with the capability of shooting 120fps. When I upload the clip into my timeline it says that it can't recognize the format and prompts to 60 fps. Any thoughts on how to get the full 120 fps? Thanks

    Here is the link.
    http://gopro.com/3d-cineform-studio-software-download/
But Tim Wolsky is correct. If you set your project at 29.97 before you start editing the project and then drag the clips in, they will conform to 29.97 and be able to slow down. I also like it in Final Cut becasue it is preset to ramp up and down into slow motion. Meaning, if you only want part of your clip in slomo, you select the Range tool, highlight that section and slow it down. Final Cut has an algarithm that does a slight ramp down to slow mo, so it isn't jarring. Very cool.
The gopro software will allow you to slow it down to the appropriate frame rate then export it as the longer, full slow motion clip. It's more exact than final cut, becasue it doesn't work in percentage, but you do lose flexibilty.
I shot some footage the day I got the camera and slowed it down in Final Cut. I will upload and post it to the thread, if you are curious on the end result. It's just grainy, becasue it was dark and indoors, but you will get an idea of the smoothness of the effect.
    Hope this helps.

  • High FPS Video performance issue. Premier Pro CC.

Hello, I have been working on this project.
The recording I used are recorded with Nvidia Shadowplay at Max bitrate (50 mbps and H.264) and 60 FPS.
Now I did record the game Counter Strike: GO. And while recording the time scale was set to 1/4. So in Premier Pro I accelerated the recording by 400% to get back to real time. Which makes the videos effectively 240 fps Full-HD recordings.
Now I used the short-cut CTRL+SHIFT+F11, to see my CUDA's rendering information.
At first it plays a smooth target 60 fps, but it doesn't take long for it to go down to 3-6 fps. Which is simply impossible to work with.
Now my question is, can I tell Premier Pro to only render at say 60 or 50 fps? Basically let it skip frames in order to maintain at least 24 fps for the view port editing purposes?
Final render of the project is targeted at 60 FPS for YouTube.
    Sincerely, Julian Blau
    My gear:
Intel i7-920 (OC to 3.9 GHz)
    Nvidia GTX 680 (MSI TwinFrozr)
Samsung 840 SSD for cache in Premier Pro's Media Settings.
Media is stored on a Regular HDD (600 GB)

I am having the same issues.
Im working on a late 2012 iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. 32 Gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX, OS X 10.9.4.
I'm editing RED footage, about 3 TB worth for this project from a Promise Pegasus drive.
The software really slows down when using the TYPE tool and also when scrubbing through footage.
When I attempt to quite the software and restart, the interface goes away but the app is still running but says "not responding" when I attempt to force quit.
If you've figured it out since then Id love to know what works.
    Thanks!

  • How to see time taken of the footage in premier pro cs5

    Hi,
I have captured the video footage from miniDV tape and brought it in premier pro cs5. I want to see the time at which the actual footage was recorded, not the file created or modified. For eg, 12th march, 2011 at 1.24PM. I tried to look under project panel and expanded it by pressing ~ key. On the right hand top fly out menu, pressed Metadata Display and searched under Premier pro project data and Basic. Couldn't find the right property to add. Any help appreciated.

  • How do I Import footage from Premier Pro CS3 to After Effects?

    Hi
As the subject says, how do I import footage from premier pro cs3 into after effects. I'm getting rather frustrated trying to figure this out.
Via copy & paste I can copy into after effects but this copys the whole of the track on the timeline, where as I just want 10 seconds copied. The 10 seconds I want to copy is a segment & was highlighted when I clicked copy.
Also when the full track gets copied, all my edits aren't copied & I get the raw track copied???
I've googled this, tried the "Add Dynamic Link" but all I want is to copy 10 seconds of footage from premier into after effects, add my effect & then copy it back, and I can't figure out how to do this simple thing
    Any help
    Thanks.

I am still not getting this.
I highlight the selection I want to copy into after effects. I copy & paste it & it pastes my entire footage without any off the edits I have made.
Having searched loads for this I can find no other answer than copy & paste.
Please please could you guy be more specific with your answers as I just can't figure this one?

  • 60fps Go Pro Footage playing at 30fps on Premier Pro?

When I start a new sequence to match my footage I get:
For editing clips recorded in AVC-Intra 100 codec.
16:9 progressive 720p HD video at 59.94 frames per second.
    48kHz audio.
    General
    Editing mode: AVC-Intra 100 720p 60Hz
    Timebase: 59.94fps
Right now, when I play the clip in premier pro, the video plays at 30fps. The audio is unaffected and plays normally so it finishes before the clip ends.
Is this correct? Or how can I get the playback to be 60fps? I read in the book Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook that "when discussing hi-def formats, 60 can refer to 60 frames per second or 60 fields per second," where 60
fields per second = 30 frames per second interlaced (is that right?). But, my footage is progressive so why do I see playback at 30 frames per second?
Any help breaking this down for me would be much appreciated. I'm new to video editing.
    -Justin

I did both just now and they both produced the same result. I get the same result even if I don't adjust the sequence settings by choosing "Keep Existing Settings."
The only way I have found to fix it is to "unlink" the audio and video and then increase the clip speed / duration to 200%. But, I just feel like I shouldn't have to do any of that at all...

  • Import AVCHD video footage into Premier Pro CS6 - MAC - AUDIO MISSING!

    Hi,
Ive been attempting to import AVCHD video footage captured on a Panasonic into Premier Pro CS6 on my MacPro. I've tried this from the camera and after copying the entire folder to my desktop. The footage is there, but has no audio! I have read loads, forums, advice, YouTube vids and Adobe manuals, trouble shooting and help, but found no simple answer to this simple issue.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks too Jeff. Sandeep's post is a simple redirect to a post on Adobe which naturally I've already read before turning to the forum. The link then sends you to another link! Info. is too light on specifics, doesn't help! I have 6.0.5 as downloaded from Adobe... no joy! All remains the same, picture but still no audio! Maybe a compatibility issue with Panasonic's HC X900... but Panasonic's website is as light on info. as Adobe. I'm off to the shop to buy FCP or Avid.

  • Premier Pro CS6-Capturing Footage, Serious Surprising Issue

I started editing using final cut pro 7 and i'm making the transition into the adobe video world.  Premier is very simlar to final cut, but I think premier is much better as long as you can find your self around.
I chose to capture vhs tapes through a fw 400 to a 800 into my mac with premier instead of final cut.  The reason for this is, i noticed that premier had a much better proc amp luma to it then fial cut did.  Meaning the capture window in final cut 7 was much darker then in premier pro cs6.
The Final cut capture window is on the left and the premier capture window is on the right.
Now this is a very good thing and this is why i chose to capture in premier instead.  Does premier have capture presets like final cut does?  I'm captureing vhs tapes that are 2 hours long and average to about 30/35 gigs a pop cuase their .movs.  Is there anyway to capture as a mpg2 and call it a day?  Thank you.

As far as I know, PPro (both Win and Mac) capture digitised tapes into the DV AVI codec... on Win it is AVI and Mac it is MOV... but the internals are the same
What is your digitising device... and does it come with it's own software?
But, do be aware that the DV AVI codec, at about 13Gig per hour, is as good as it gets for editing
If you do use other software to capture to a compressed format, you lose a great deal of the original picture quality
I hope this old link is still active... Why not edit mpeg http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/edit.html

  • Premier Pro CC Multicam ruins my edits throwing random footage into places it shouldn't

Hi guys, thanks in advance for reading/helping.
I've been editing on Premier for a while now, i've done hundreds of hours of multicam editing - but this is the first time i've encounterd this problem.
Yesterday I was editing a multicam shoot, 3 cameras with external audio. I edited it by syncing my cameras up in a sequence, nesting it and then enabling multicam editing on the nest. I proceeded to go through the entire thing cutting where approirpate. When I got to the end and watched it back within Premier pro it was fine. I sent the three final sequences to media encoder, and when I watched the renders there was no resembelance to my edit. This has just happened to me for the second time about 10 minutes ago, throwing away another 5 hours of my life.
Black patches everywhere and it kept showing a clip from the first minute of one of my cameras, randomly..
I am editing on a Mac Pro 2010, 32GB ram, 1GB graphics, samseung 840 pro SSD as my media disk.
Has anyone had any experiance with a problem like this? I need to get it fixed pronto as i'm already workong to a deadline. Here is what my timeline looks like:
As you can see, i'm a fair way into the edit - yet it's decided to randomly show people entering the room, which happened right at the start, and to top it off - this shot wasn't even featured in my edit!!
Really desperate here so any help or suggestions would be appriciated.
    Thanks,

    Tomoms wrote:
I think it's fixed now, the reason this happened ( as far as i can tell ) is because I re-installed Premier onto my new SSD recently, and it seems like when you install you get an un-updated version of Premier. You have to manually update it after installing.
My views on this matter is that Adobe should be ashamed of themselves. Why on earth, with the utility that you now have in the way you distribute your software, would you not give paying customers the latest version of your software by default? Absolutely discraseful. The very least you could do is give users a prompt at the end of their installation saying "Go and update me now or i'm going to ruin your multicam edits"
Sorry for your trouble Tomoms. Whenever I install software, I always look for the update after installing as a general rule of thumb. It seems to happen with all software companies. However, if this really bothers you, feel free to file a feature request. Here is the form: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
