Gost icon in sidebar finder

Hi all,
I just got a new macbook pro and I did migrate from my old macbook pro (both 13" the old one is less than 2 yeqrs old and was running snow leopard)
I had in my sidebar shortcuts to a few folders and after the migration, on the new computer, they simply do not fonction anymore I can't click on them to open the folder and I definitely can't take them out of the sidebar (incidently the drag-out from the sidebar do not work for any folder or icon present in my sidebar)
I tried erasing both com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.sidebarlists.plist in user/library/Preferences then rebooting but it didn't work. The sidebar got reset but the gost icons are still there.
One precision (I don't know if it's important or not) The three gost icons comes from my dropbox main folder. I should add that my main dropbox folder is also in the sidebar but is not affected.
How can I get rid of those ?
I'm running OSX 10.6.7 on a 2,3Ghz i5 macbook pro 13"
Thanks in advance for your help :-)
Jon

Glad to help.

  • How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Were transferred when I set up laptop from my desktop computer.  Tried dragging off but that didn't work.

How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Transferred info from my Mac Pro desktop computer (using target mode) and there were folder icons on the Mac Pro Finder sidebar that are now on the MacBook Finder sidebar, even though these folders do not exist on the MacBook.  Tried to drag them off, which is the usual way to get rid of folders that the user adds to the sidebar (as opposed to those that can be added via the Customize Toolbar dropdown menu) but was unsuccessful.  I then unchecked all of the Customize Toolbar menu items and the folder icons still remained.  What else can I do?

Did you hold the Command (Apple) key while dragging them off the sidebar? That usually makes them go *poof*.

  • Documents Icon in Sidebar Causes Finder to Crash

    Hi,
I seems to have an issue with my sidebar. Any time I click on the Documents Icon shortcut, the Finder crashes. It will not crash if I have just logged in and click on it once, but after that, it will crash every time. In addition, if I try to open the documents folder after Finder restarts itself, I cannot double click on the documents folder from my Home folder (in list view) without that crashing the Finder as well.
I added a shortcut to a desktop folder I created titled "Current Documents." Is that really capable of screwing the Sidebar up? Repairing disk permissions has not seemed to help, and this issue is a major annoyance. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Could be... try this:
    1. Drag all icons off bottom of your Finder sidebar.
    2. In Finder >> Preferences >> Sidebar UNcheck all options.
    3. navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Two of each icon in sidebar

I have two of each icon in the Finder window sidebars. I tried dragging the second one of each off, and that works for a while, but at some point they reappear. (Perhaps after a restart?)
Any suggestions about how to fix that?

Try trashing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Finder.plist, and relaunching Finder from the force quit window. That will reset finder preferences back to default, and, hopefully, fix the problem.
    Good luck!

  • Accidentally removed my Network icon in my finder

I accidentally removed my Network icon from the finder panel. Anyway I can't get it back now and when I Apple K, I can't locate anything on the network anyway the only way to do this was to use the network icon when it was in the left area on the panel.
    any ideas please?

I think this works in 10.4 (but not in 10.5)
Click on the Desktop then top left Finder/Preferences
Check the 'Computer' item at the top then close the Preferences and open a new Finder window
Your computer 'name' should then be at the top of the left sidebar
Click on it and you should then see your hard drive and 'Network'
Drag 'Network' to the left sidebar

  • I earased my idisk icon in my finder window

I accidentally erased my idisk icon from my finder window. I have searched for it in every place possible so that I could drag it back to the sidebar but I have yet to find the icon again. I was wondering if there was anyway I could get it back.

I presume you mean the Finder sidebar?
In Finder, open the Preferences, click on Sidebar in the toolbar, and there is an item under "Devices" that is iDisk.
For future reference, you may have better luck posting Finder related questions in the appropriate Finder section of the OS version you are using (Snow Leopard (10.6.x):http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1341, Leopard (10.5.x): http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1221).

Not sure exactly what you mean by your, "finder folder."
However, in your Finder's preferences, under Sidebar, do you have Music and Pictures checked off?

  • Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap

    I am using 10.5.1 on a 17" MBP 2.16 ghz.
Since installing Leopard, Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap and Finder windows do not always remember their display preferences.
The Trash auto-wraps (the icons spread to take up the entire window if it is enlarged) But Opening a Folder in my default list view and switching to Icon view and then enarging the window only shows icons in the original window width. EG, If it were 3 colums of icons, it stays 3 columns of icons unless I use Clean Up TWICE and then I get 10 columns of icons which will wrap.
Is this a Leopard BUG or a local problem. Any suggestions on fixing it?
    TIA,
    Bill

Yeh - though I use cmd-J which I have used since it appeared, 10.1?
But I just solved my problem. In my use as defaults selection, I had Snap to Grid selected in the arrange by pop-up rather than by Name.
Selecting Name and clicking on Use as Defaults makes things work as expected.
Thanks for making me look closely!
    Cheers,

  • Disable / Turn off Thumbnail / Icon Preview in Finder?

Can't find any new/recent posts to solve this issue. I want to disable/turn-off the little icon preview in finder.
I have to access a lot of images on a server at work. Image files(jpeg, eps, tiff, psd, ai, ect) that are typically 50MB and higher. So you can only imagine the amount of lag I get and the time I waste every time I click on a folder in list view.
Is there any way to disable it? Just have it show a standard icon file type instead of it loading 100+ 8MB images in little tiny icons?
I've already tried the View -> Show View Options -> unchecked 'Show icon preview' and applied it as 'Use as default'
Its turn off for all folders but it is still loading the mini icon preview.
(I'm on a Mac Pro - Mountain Lion)

I've tried reinstalling Mavericks and I'm still having this issue. I'm considering wiping my drive and going back to Mountain lion. Qucktime player in Mavericks seems to suck. I'm having several other issues playing back older quictime files. Most play in Quicktime 7 but a lot have no quicklook previews. The sheer volume of prores files I shoot makes this extremely inconvenient for me. How can Apple not support their own Codec????

  • Newly created photoshop images/icons missing in finder in Snow Leopard

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, whenever I create a new image in Photoshop and save it to a file, and then I go into that file to look for it, it is missing. The only way I can find the file is if I enter the name of the image in the finder window and do a search - then it says that the image is in the image folder - where I put it - but when I go there, it isn't there. So the only way to find and then open that newly created image, is to remember what I called it, and then enter it's name in the finder serach window. Crazy, Huh? What could be causing that, and how can I fix that?
The other problem that I notice with Snow Leopard is that the newly created icon images in finder are all blurry. The blurriness seems to be random. Some are, some are not. I did a search for that in the forum and it seems that just about everyone is experiencing this problem. You would think after a year of complaints that Apple would do something about this, but they have not. They are completly ignoring the problem.

What version of CS? what Mac even is this?
CS4 or later (CS5.x probably to be current).

  • Increasing icon size in finder window

In Snow Leopard I was able to increase the size of icons in any finder window by pinching out. I seem to have lost that ability after upgrading to Lion. This was a great feature, especailly for folders with photos in them. Does anyone know how to bring this back?

    Hi,
    thanks for the star too!
    I'm afraid I don't understand what didn't work... Mmmm...
What I tested on my own computer (I also run 10.4.8) was that
1/ I opened my home folder
2/ my files are in "Icon view"
3/ I went to the pull down menu at the top of the computer and chose View
4/ I selected Show View Options (or Apple + J)
5/ A window opened that allowed me to change the size of the icons in that window and also gave the possibility to change the size in all windows.
I'm sorry if I was not clear before.
Francine gave you the best option anyway. Thanks again!

  • Using Custom Icons - Changing the Finder Icon

So I know you can just do a simple copy and paste under "get info" in order to change icons for applications and folders, but how do you do this for Finder? I know this is possible, if not for the simplest reason that one of the downloads that Apple has featured on this site for icons has a Finder icon (bad logic I know, but it seems odd that Finder would be the only icon you couldn't change). The problem is, how do you "Get Info" on Finder? Where would you find finder (no pun intended)?
    Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the help in finding the icon, the only problem is that it won't let me alter it. I even changed permissions on the bottom of the "get info" screen to allow the current user (also the administrator) to both read and write, but it wouldn't let me paste a different styled icon over it. Any suggestions on how to change the Finder icon to a custom one? And ya we were thinking about how we would change it back too, but realized its not really that big of an issue because all our friends and even we have multiple macs, so we could always just copy it back that way.

  • No Icon Previews in Finder

    Hi
Something has killed Icon previews in Finder. 'Show Icon Preview' is selected in 'Show View Options'.
I found elsewhere here that some of Rogue Amoeba's 'Audio Hijack Pro' plugins can cause this issue so I uninstalled the whole package after unsuccessfully trying to upgrade the plugins (which have now been fixed). Uninstalling the lot and rebooting did not help.
I've binned ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist & com.apple.finder.plist and rebooted. This did not help.
    I've also binned com.apple.QuickLook.thumbnailcache from /private/var/folders/somename/someothername/-Caches-
This has not fixed the problem. After rebooting, the quicklook thumbnail cache is never recreated.
Before my loss of icon previews I had multiple instances of quicklookd crashes. This no longer happens since removing the Rogue Amoeba plugins but I have many
'[QL] Can't get server port for <QLServer com.apple.quicklook>: Unknown service name' logs in the console.
I've also noticed that 'Quicklook Helper' is never running (randomly viewed from activity monitor), is this what generates Icon Previews in SL?
    Any help Appreciated
    Cheers - Mark

Wish I could offer help, but mine just started doing this as well. Mine occurred after a system failure (thanks to Windoze and Parallels) and a complete restore from Time Capsule/Time Machine. So far the only other odd thing I've noticed is my Trade Gothic fonts got corrupted.
I don't have Audio Hijack Pro installed.
