I cant get back to the windows start screen or my mac screen. What can i do?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use BootCamp. There's a BootCamp Support Community where everybody uses BootCamp. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

• F.E.A.R. 2 black screen while using Soundblaster X-Fi

This is my second attempt to get some support for a problem that is plaguing many trying to play F.E.A.R 2 with a Soundblaster X-Fi. We have been on the official forums for WBGames now for the past two weeks asking for help. Many were able to find solutions by updating their codecs however there are many of us that still cannot get into the game. WBGames official response it as follows...
Dear, xxx
Regarding your sound acceleration error and the sound cards you have used, we apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.
At the moment, we have been noticed that certain Creative sound cards (X-Fi, Sound Blaster and Audigy) and Realtek are presenting incompatibility issues with the F.E.A.R. 2 application. Unfortunately, Creative Labs have not yet released a patch to solve this situation, as other companies like Nvidia have worked on.
F.E.A.R. 2 is designed to function with Windows XP/Vista compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by Windows itself or the respecti've card manufacturers and may occasionally result in incompatibility problems beyond our control.
If there is anything else we can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at ">[email protected] m or by phone 080-0664-9456 (in Germany) during the hours of EST :00 pm - 0:00 pm, PST: 0am- 8pm MON-FRI.
Thank you for contacting Warner Brothers and have a great day.

I thought that someone with creative labs would be interested in either responding or releasing some kind of a statement in regards to this.
The current problem for us is when we try to launch the game a small animated orb runs at the bottom right of the screen while the game loads. At the end of the animation we hear a small chime and the screen goes black as though it is about to load the intro videos. But we get nothing. The screen remains black. I have exhausted all of their solutions, I have updated drivers and tried the latest beta drivers from Creative. I have removed, replaced, and updated codecs. Video card drivers are updated, etc.
Basically we are faced with the following dilema. We can disable the sound card in Windows and the game plays however with no sound. We can run the game in safe mode which manually disables the sound card and the game plays but with no sound. Leave the sound card enabled and run the game in normal mode and we get a black screen.
PLEASE, can someone with Creative Labs respond to this? We are looking for answers and would very much like to play this game.Message Edited by djdouglas on 02-20-2009 09:39 [email protected]

Re: F.E.A.R. 2 black screen while using Soundblaster X-Fi?
solace wrote:
Pardon me but i'm looking your Quad SLI setup a potential culprit to your problems. Have you tried disabling SLI mode to see if the problem can be resolved?
That was my first thought when I encountered this problem. I took the steps troubleshooting video. Disabled SLI, Physically removed one video card. Updated drivers, etc. I am currently running the 82.06WHQL drivers which are suppose to be enhanced for F.E.A.R.2 and other games.
My next step was to try uninstalling codecs as their support team had suggested for people running into issues with the demo version (which btw worked perfectly for me). There were tons of reponses by the devs and community managers before the release of the game in response to people having issues (these same issues) on the demo. So they released a patch the day before the release of the game and when everyone installed the game the patch automatically installed. So for me and many others that enjoyed a smooth gameplay in the demo our rigs are now not working with the official release.
Since release we have yet to see a response or fix or suggestion from a dev. There have been many others in the community that have helped each other out by posting their solutions. For most updating their codecs using Klite or Ace Mega codec pack has fixed their problem but for a select few of us these solutions have not worked.
Basically I can launch the game successfully in safemode which disables sound. I can also disable the sound card and launch the game successfully although without sound. The codec that has seemed to be effecti've when replaced by others is the Microsoft IMA ADHCP codec. However for me I can disable that codec and get a hardware accelration error but still get a black screen. Re enable it and get black screen with no error. So I do not believe this to be the issue plaguing me. Ultimately it is coming down to a conflict with my sound board and the game.

• Blue screen while installing Boot Camp support software in Win7 Ultimate x64

2012 macbook pro with OSX Mavericks. Installing Win7 ultimate x64 using boot camp assistant and a USB drive went flawlessly. Then I downloaded and installed the boot camp support software from support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Running setup.exe bluescreens my computer and makes the windows partition unbootable after that, even in safe mode. I performed a system restore to roll back the boot camp software and booted again, and checked the log file. It pointed to an intel USB driver. I then deleted IntelxHCI from the Drivers/Intel folder, ran setup.exe again, and everything installed perfectly.
My question is: what is the Intel usb 3 extensible host controller, why is it included in the support software, and why does it immediately brick my Windows partition?

I have re-installed Windows 7 about 20 times already, I am experiencing the same problem as you are. The issue must be some kind of driver being installed by Boot Camp. When I leave my fresh Windows 7 install with no Boot Camp, the error or blue screen never occurs. This is weird.
Help please Apple...

• What is the noise my iMac does while using boot camp?

Hello.
I installed Windows 7 (Ultimate) on my iMac (27, late 2013, 32GB RAM) using Boot Camp and when I start using it, every couple of seconds I hear a noise that only happens with Windows. It's a very soft noise and it keeps repeating. I already searched online but can't find an explanation. I'm assuming this is not good and I not using Windows until figure how to solve it.
The noise reminds me, in a very soft version, the optical drives working (I have an SSD).
Does anyone have a clue? Am I doing the right thing, not using boot camp because of the noise, or it's normal to boot camp and windows to make that noise on my iMac?
Thank you. :-)
Cheers,
Telmo

It could be your Fan, which periodically comes on. There are several monitoring programs, like smcFanControl or iStat that can help monitor the OSX side.
You can try http://sourceforge.net/projects/macfan/ on Windows.

• Black screen after installing Boot camp Win7 on iMac 27 late 2009

I've run out of ideas as to how to fix this problem. I have a late 2009 iMac quad i5, Mountain Lion, 12GB RAM, 1TB HD (recently exchanged under extended warranty).
I stopped counting how many times I have tried to get this up and running but I followed a whole bunch of 'how to's' on the net, including the official Appple guide, but I always end up with a black screen. I insytalled it from scratch using both, Apple drivers on CD and SD card and I can confirn that they installed correctly during my last try. That time I first installed Win Vista, then upgraded to Win 7. I took out the install DVD after first restart and left the SD card in its slot (correctly named, as suggested by Apple). the installation finished, the screen went dark for about 5 min, then the computer rebooted, the screen went dark again for another few min and after that the vomputer restarted again but this time all stayed dark and nothing happened for the better part of an hour.
I also restarted from the Win install disk and tried to remove the ATI drivers using command lines, as suggested in one post.
I need to run Win in Bootcamp because some application I use are very demanding so I need Win to run natively. In an earlier attempt I managed to boot Win7 from the Bootcamp partition in Parallels and I installed the Apple Drivers in that environment but it still resulted in a black screen. I also tried to remove the ATI drivers from Drivers directory manually in MacOS mode but the System wouldn't let me edit the Syustem folder at all, not even in Root user mode.
I understand that I'm not the only one with problem and I feel for you, but please refrain from "me too" posts becuase it doesn't really solve my problem. Thank you.

I presume that you've followed the instructions for sideloading the iMac Windows drivers into your install via USB stick? (wasn't aware the EFI recognized the SD slot as storage on boot. Now i know)
I always found more success in just slipstreaming the drivers and install.xml file onto a custom Win7 DVD rather than the USB approach when trying with my Late 2009 27" iMac. The Win7 installer needs that enclosed .xml file in the driver package to tell it where to find the drivers so that they be loaded when the Win7 image extracts itself.
If you're using mountain lion, then you should be receiving the proper Win7 driver set. If you wanted to create a custom image, then you can use an ISO file, the driver package and disk utility to make something you can use. Either that or you learn what edits your install.xml file needs to point the installer properly and check it manually.
I don't know what links you have so i'll just include everything:
Installing boot camp on a Late 2009 iMac:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
Direct link to Late 2009 iMac-specific Windows drivers.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995
I'd try a USB stick and the iMac-specific driver set. It should steer your insolent windows installer correctly.
Hope this helps.

• Blue Screen error using Boot Camp when installing XP on the MacBook Pro

I have been trying to install Windows XP Professional (with SP2) on my MacBook and I keep encountering blue screen errors during the install. I successfully create the Windows partition with Boot Camp (v2.0) and then Windows install begins. However, during the setup process it hangs and then eventually throws an error showing a blue screen. There has been a different error each time I've tried to install. I've booted in OSX and then deleted the Windows partition through Boot Camp and then attempted the process from the beginning five separate times and each time I get an error during the initial install phase.
Its not a matter of the installation CD because i borrowed 3 differnt copies from some friends and i still have the same issues.
Once, I managed to actually start windows XP however it was full of errors probably as parts of it weren't properly installed due to the the blue screens that made me reboot several times.
Am I the only one having this problem??
Is this a matter of the hardware? Can you think of any possible solution?
(I used NTFS did everything propperly I'm 100% sure)(I tried FAT as well)(still nothing)
PLEASE HELP

Can you read and write from your optical drive? I would have it checked by burning something to it and seeing if it can be read.
I have noted a link, with some information that may be helpful, for you to check out.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7872477#7872477
I would repair permissions before your next attempt too.
If this fails, I would contact Apple.

• Mid-2010 Mac Mini -  black screen after installing boot camp drivers

I successfully installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my new Mac Mini. The display worked without issue in XP at this point.
After doing this, I proceeded to install the boot camp drivers. They installed and automatically rebooted the machine.
After reboot, Windows XP no longer has a functioning display. The display is a black screen and eventually the monitor shuts off.
Things I've tried:
- Reset PRAM
- Reset SMC
- Tried both Mini DisplayPort and HDMI connections to connect to the HDMI port on the monitor
- Booting into Safe Mode. Holding down F8 successfully brought up the Safe Mode options, but again the display was blank after choosing the Safe Mode option and attempting to load Windows.
Message was edited by: mullingitover

Update: Other stuff I've now tried--
- Swapping out RAM modules. I've tried it with the stock 2GB sticks in place, also with a single 4GB stick. Same result.
Other interesting/troubling problems:
- Unable to boot into Safe Mode with command line. The text-only interface with safe mode options that is reached by pressing F8 during windows startup is displayed. However, no matter which option I choose, the result is a dead display.
- Unable to boot with Windows XP install CD (?!). After choosing the CD at the boot selection screen, the display blanks and never wakes up.

• Random black screen while using

Hello!
I'm having some issues with my laptop. It is an Hp Pavilion DV7-1135nr. I understand this laptop in particular has been know to have a lot of issues, but I still wonder if anyone has a solution for this. Just recently my laptops hard drive died so we bought a new one, along with a new fan because that one was dying. We installed the new parts and everything worked fine for a while and then while I was using it it froze up and the screen turned black. I turned off the laptop for a while and tried it again about an hour and a half later. It worked for a while but it did the exact same thing. It was also doing this before we replaced the parts so we just thought it was over hearing from the cruddy fan. Apparently not, because it's still doing the same thing. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Hi @Sycho56 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Pavilion dv7-1135nr Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7. Windows 8 here.
Here is a  document, for when it gets running, it shows you how to do a hardware test.
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings.
I hope this helps.

• Black screen while using x264 with AVC Intra 100

Hey,
I've got Premiere Pro CS6 and I've started testing the use of x264 with Dxtory. The problem I face is that the footage is incompatible with every sequence preset (as far as I know) apart from AVC Intra 100 (AVC Intra 100 1080p 30fps is the one I'm trying to use). However when I use this preset all that the preview gives me is a black screen wheras the audio is playing perfectly. This isn't urgent as it's always possible to just convert the footage to MP4 with Handbrake however not being able to use this codec would be a shame, especially since I've seen others using it without any problems at all.
Thanks,
Lawrie

I'm not familiar with x264 or Dxtory, but a search of the forum for "x264" and "black" led to this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4733946#4733946.
Which leads me to ask: what is the extension of the file? A little research on Dxtory leads me to suspect that it's an .avi. According to the thread above, Premiere does not support x264 content in an AVI wrapper.

• Black screen while using computer???

Every now and then, while I'm doing something on the computer, it'll flash to a black screen and then I need to wiggle the mouse/trackpad to get my screen up again. Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this and how to fix it? I can't tell if it's falling asleep or just a black screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might check in System Preferences>Energy saver and see if you have your display set to sleep after a very short time, like 1 minute. If so, try extending the time to 15 minutes and see if this makes a difference.
Good luck!

• SUDDEN BLACK SCREEN WHILE USING MBP. WHY?!

It has been happening lately... the screen all of a sudden turns black and it forces me to shut it down manually.
Using I-Photo for example, when I zoom in on a picture the screen turns black and there is nothing to do to get the computer back running other than shut it down pressing the power button. It also happened yesterday whilst watching a video on YouTube. It is crashing down too often lately:

Any solution??

ChMBP,
I and others have the same problem with iphoto and with both life 09 and life11 on my book in all accounts and safe mode didn't make any difference.

I followed these steps found in the link below but without resolution on my book,
it has helped others
http://mbp-freeze.wikispaces.com/ ( thanks for the link Andyball)
• I see you were on 10.6.6 (this is an old post) have you tried updating to 10.6.7 it has helped some (but not on my mbp)
• you did try resetting the PRAM (steps found in the link for both the pram & Smc reset) & (SMC) didn't work for me either.
• Run Disk permissions didn't help on mine did on others ( am I the only one to have the odd unfulfilled progress bar )
Did you try making a new partition with a fresh reinstall & the apple apps only)
I did but the issue persists and with 3 different cam photos.
Imo this is a graphic card/ logic board problem.
My HD was replaced 3 days ago, and the issue persits in both accounts
Apple has it now, I'll keep you posted on a possible resolution for my mbp, could differ on yours, meanwhile I hope you keep us posted, okay?
Mia
p.s here is one of my crashes, as you can see pretty similar.

• While at boot camp assistant, Downloading the windows support software stalls

From a long time windows user, I was persuaded to migrate to mac and am quite lost. While using boot camp assistant, downloading the windows support software just stalls at 20%. I tried using alternative drives, USB, DVD and the partitioned HD of imac but still to no avail. What should I do?

No problem.  For me, I spent the time downlaoding the drivers for Boot Camp 4.0 (form Lion), un-installed by Boot Camp 3.0 because it wouldn't upgrade, and then learned that Boot Camp 4.0 didn't support my old MacBok Pro.  I had to go back and install 3.0, then update to 3.1, 3.2 and finally to 3.3.  That took me about an hour and a half...  Oh well,  at least I already had most of those on disc ot downloaded...

• Just installed windows 7 Ultimate using Boot Camp. Problem is when I chose to boot the windows partition, I get the windows icon on the sreen showing that it is starting, but few second after I get a black screen

Just installed windows 7 Ultimate using Boot Camp. Problem is when I choose to boot the windows partition, I get the windows icon on the screen showing that it is starting, but few second after, I get a blank screen. I suspect a driver (screen) issue, since I also installed Parallell using the boot camp partition and that works fine.
Do anybody out there has an ideal of what to do to solve this issue.
Thanks

• My MacBook Pro just turned itself off while installing Windows 7. It has now got a black screen with a white flashing bar in the top left corner...what can I do?

I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
What is wrong and what should I do?

Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac.
