Got a few problems/questions

first, i can't buy apps. i'm with bell, and i can't buy an app for my bb style or the pb. i'm trying to use paypal but i get an error message saying it exceeds my modile spending limit. on the style i get an error number and sorry but try later. does anyone have experience with this?
second, is there going to be a universal search on the pb?
third, i'm looking for a waterproof camera that supports eye-fi (a wi-fi sd card for cameras that doesn't need mi-fi to transfer to android or apple) and can be charged via usb so that i can charge it and the pb with a usb solar panel or crank charger (ya, they put out 5V x 2.1A) while camping and transfer media to the pb for editing without internet... pending the release of a few more apps. any suggestions? (yes it's a very long trip, and no, i'm not returning to my own comp, i want to rely on the pb to update people. i'm also not a big fan of uploading every raw video i have to youtube for editing with my phone, since i currently use an olympus tough 3000 + tripod and a 16g micro sd and have had to do that already)

The first problem seems to me to be due to a problem with your PayPal account, especially since its affecting both devices. Check your PayPal account settings, or try creating a new PayPal account altogether. Of course the alternative is to try paying directly with a credit card as you should have that option.

Few problems/questions! (cover flow, album art...etc)

Ok I finally added my songs to my new IPOD (replaced my old one) and this is my first Ipod with video, color...etc. Its the IPOD Classic 80 GIG.
Well I am having a few problems/questions:
---Why when I hit "Get album art" does it ONLY get art for my videos? It doesn't get any for all 1,500+ songs! Is it because they aren't downloaded from Itunes? If so then why does it do it for the movies then? They aren't from ITunes either!
---With Cover Flow I updated the Album Art myself and have about 700 songs with art now. But I have two problems.
1. It won't display all 700 songs under Cover Flow!
2. It won't show them in order by song name! Can I change that?!? If not then how is it showing them by? What do I need to change?
---Are there any other video types supported besides that on Mpeg4 and that other weird type? If not why not? Its a pain to have to convert everything. Its almost not worth having this video IPOD if you have to go through sop much effort just to watch 1 stupid video. I mean I spent more money on extra programs now for music and videos then I did on the IPOD almost.

Cover flow on the ipod can only be done (as far as I know) on Album by Artist Name. On iTunes you can change it around

Got a few problems but all connected with the shuffle

I got a 1gb Ipod shuffle and I have fully formatted it and charged it. Iv installed all the up to date software for the Ipod and fully updated with Itunes. here is the problem! Ipod pluged into USB, start Itunes then add some music files into my libuary, highlite all files in libuary and drag and drop or copy and paste (dont matter which)into my Ipod and when ever I delete all files from my libuary it automaticly clears my Ipod. dont matter what I leave ticked or unticked it still clears my shuffle. please help me its not the usb port its something to do with the settings in itunes and the Ipod, or have I got knackerd shuffle.

It's normal behavior. If you connect the iPod and it contains a song that isn't in the Library anymore, the song is removed from the iPod.

I was wondering if I go to my nearest Apple store on Tax Free weekend (or the apple online store). Will I get Tax off the Imac?
Also my mom is a homeschool teacher. Will she be able to get the Education discount at the Apple Store (not online one)?

You'll need a lot more than tax off your imac. The question you should be asking is..."should I buy one?". You should (try and) talk to someone at Apple before you spend that much money, and ask them why the Video/Display on the 24" Intel Core Duo is so unreliable and flaky. They don't seem to want to address the SERIOUS issues. You have no idea what I'm going through (conveniently for Apple , after warranty expiration) with my lemon. I have owned dozens of Macs, and this is by far, the most unreliable, flaky, crash-prone, frustrating piece of equipment I have ever purchased. I have to place a large fan about 12 inches from the computer to prevent it from overheating. If the ambient room temperature gets over 22-23 degrees Celcius, the crashes are far more frequent... sometimes about 30 minutes apart - if I'm lucky enough to be able to work that long. I can't count how many preference and database files have been corrupted by these sudden shutdowns. Often, it takes many attempts (or a long wait) before I can reboot. I can barely see what I'm writing now, because there's a grey line through most of the text. I've emailed Apple, but received no response - no surprise there. I send many crash reports a day too. They need to concentrate on developing a reliable, stable platform before they waste so much of their time and my money on pretty, shiny boxes. I'm disgusted. I opened my iphone 5c and got a few problems

i opened it and when i did i pulled to hard and the cables attached to the screen plugged into the rest of the phone ripped and now the screen doesnt show anything and touch doesnt work. though i found out how to fix this and am getting a new screen later, i realized when the phone is on and is receiving a call it makes a beep. i used another phone to call it and it would make that beep even when the sound is off. though i dont know if my iphone is worth buying a new screen for. if i screwed up more than just the screen wires on the inside then i should just get another iphone. also the phone while its on gets hot without me doing anything. also on the side where you turn on and off the sound, its stopped vibrating when i turn it off. ( but im sure the vibrating works since its vibrated before ). so if you have any ideas on whether i screwed up the inside or its because the screens cable is unattached please let me know.

It does sound like the logic board. It's not uncommon for an iBook with a faulty logic board to work intermittently. You can't count on it, though. It could fail completely at any time.
DT&T Computer Services in Fremont, California has the best deal I've found on logic board replacements. They do free diagnostics, so they would make sure that's what you need, and there is a six-month warranty on the repair.

I'm always a little sad that people are basing their opinions of Macs on these older iBooks. Yours is the newest iBook in existence, but it's still over five years old — ancient in computer terms.

When my late `06 iMac went basically kaput, I went to booting off an external clone of it's entire 600+ gb's from an `06 MacBook . . .
( never knew so much beach-ball and force quits were possible ! )
Dear friends in Austin bought and just sent me a used 2009 21.5" on 10.7.5 ( 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo / 4 GB 1067 MHz RAM ) . . and it has 487.01 free out of 499.25 GB.
I'm not diving head-first into Lion ( it seems I've heard more problematic tales on that OS then others, maybe ? ), so until I figure out how to enjoy my 600+ GBs on a "new" 499 GB, I'm booting the "new" one off the same external with everything amassed up thru now.
I indeed get confused about which HD is "in charge" . . .
Leopard's on the external, but it's being processed thru Lion, kind'a ? . . . right ?!
That would suggest many things need to be reconciled :
I first noticed Quicktime Pro couldn't play mp4s of 1080 movie burns.
Audio plays . . picture's black !
That was my first question.
Then, a simple Control/Shift/3 screen-shot came out completely scrambled . . everytime !
Then things got deeper !!
A simple "oh good, iTunes isn't detecting my iPod . . let's try a restart" resulted in the infamous "your computer needs to be restarted, please hold the power button for several seconds . . ." descending kernel panic screen !!
More attempts got lesser results, up to no gearwheel at all on unchanging gray screen. . . till I let it be awhile and got back to the kernel screen.
12 hours later it just let me boot to the internal HD with Lion.
But I felt a run of Disk Warrior was still in order . .
I get :
"DiskWarrior cannot currently be run from this disk because Mac OS X ignores ownership of some disks by default . . ."
it suggest an approach which ends with :
3) Click the "Sharing & permissions" triangle
4) Uncheck "Ignore ownership on this volume"
This becomes a ring of Catch 22 till my head hurts !!
Right now, I can't even find an icon of the volume for Get Info, but when I saw it yesterday, it said under "Sharing & permissions" that I have "custom access' !?
When I spoke to the wife of the wonderful couple who sent me this, she said she had indeed entered my name as admin, but there was "no password".
Well Finder sure seems to know about & want one !!

I feel for anybody try'na sort thru my nonsense here, so let me eliminate things that have "improved" :
The "new" Mac calmed down, became bootable. And once Spotlight finished 90 minutes on indexing the prime external I was able to boot from it again. ( It's where all my apps are afterall, and a terrain I don't have to learn for days to use yet )
On 1st restart option, the external didn't show, but that cleared-up, and I ran Disk Warrior

A few simple questions from a new Iphone user

Hi a few simple questions, just got an iphone 2g - 2nd hand so not really sure what to expect. Anyway I guess my first question is about mine sometimes being a little slow - when I look at contacts and sometimes when sending a txt it slows down/freezes a little - normal?
Secondly Edge - I havent used it much but when I have its been painfully slow, is this normal - is it always really slow - cause I had read despite not being 3g Edge was actually pretty fast - what exactly is data roaming by the way? I mean I have been switched off as basically I dont wanna use the internet till next month when they change my contract to one I get unlimited access on - is that right?
Im having a problems syncing videos to it - it just wont sync some but will others and Im not sure why - theyre same file type and they used to sync to my ipod touch but now they wont for some reason

I have the origina iPhone.
Downloaded 2.0, synced phone with everything UNchecked. Installed 2.0. Synced with all the options checked to reload my data. The iPhone has been great. Noticed a little lag when I opened contacts. Installed the new upgrade, and everything is back, no lag.
Edge is Edge and nothing more. It is slow compared to a strong 3g signal. But is liveable most of the time. Heavy traffic can slow it down to barely usable.
My four wheel drive club has a web site with a large photo section. I was standing out in the middle of parking lot in San Jose, Ca and showing a friend some photos. It opens up a page of small picts to choose from. Select a print and it enlarges, He was amazed at how fast they appeard. Especially given the quantity of photos.

Few problems using iTunes

Im doing the first steps with iTunes and got a few questions.
I have a lot of MP3s on my NAS which are stored in the following structure of folders.
//shared/MP3-Files/<artist>/<album>/<title>
Inside the artist-folder I got a m3u-playlist which has relative links to the titles e.g.
.\<album>\title1.mp3
.\<album>\title2.mp3
.\<album>\title3.mp3 (a.s.o)
And now my problems. I created a new intelligent playlist in iTunes, added all the m3u's I got for one artist and iTunes is adding all the entries it gets. (fine, with all metadata it gets. Very nice) But if I want to play a single entry iTunes says it can't find the title and if I want to search for it.
Why can't find iTunes my titles? If I search for a single item it gets a path and could be played, but why isn't iTunes not able to convert the path directly at the first time?
Now I tried to do it the other way and wanted to add not the m3u but the mp3-files. I deleted the intelligent playlist, but every time I create a new playlist in iTunes with the same name as the deleted I have all the old entries inside the playlist. If I try to delete the entries it is not possible. (No action on pressing DEL or Backspace, no menus available)
So, what am I doing wrong?

m3u files are NOT iTunes compatible...drag your actual Mp3 files from the folders directly into iTunes library, then click and play them to make sure they work before you start moving them to playlists...see if they work, first...

5230 - a few simple questions

Hi,
I've been looking at buying the Nokia 5230 and I've got a few questions I wouldn't mind some help with. Mainly to do with the sat nav function.
1. Is SAT NAV built into the phone. In other words, can I turn my phone on sit in my car and use it as a traditional sat nav system without having to buy any additional accessories. (except a phone mount). I'm mainly referring to not having to buy a GPS receiver type thing.
2. If yes to above, are they any charges I would incur when using the SAT NAV function? (monthly fee, usage charges etc,etc)
3. A non SAT NAV question - can it sync with outlook for contacts and diary?

Yes the phone comes with a SatNav application, some time back Nokia announced free voice navigation with Ovi maps 3.03 and 5230 and is compatible to it, you can download it from Nokia website and install it. This version of Ovi maps doesnot come out of the box for some devices. Charges for Navigation depends upon your data plan if used with A-gps which uses Network provider's GPRS connection for quicker GPS fix, you can also get a GPS fix without A-gps by relying only on the inbuilt GPS receiver which may take time to get a fix but not very longer. You can use the device very well for SatNav without need to buy a seperate gps receiver. Yes it does synchronise with outlook, with Nokia PC suite you can sync your PIM with outlook.

A Few Basic Questions About Random Shut Downs (RSD)

i think my month and a half old macbook has "RSD", its a white 13 inch which i bought refurbrished, Iv got a few questions about RSD and apple serice
First, is there any way to avaoid rsd or is it soemthing you really have no influence over?
secondly, if i send it in to get serviced, how long might it take (it has to ship from new england if that means anything)?
has anyone got theres serviced recently and still had problems?
Also will the RSD get worse, should i send it in sooner rather than later (right now i can deal with it, though if it does get worse itd be a pain)
and last should i expect to lose everything on the harddrive ifg i send it in?

You can't avoid it. You can temporarily reduce it by:
1. Holding down the power button at startup until it beeps.
2. Setting your energy saver settings so it doesn't sleep.
But over time, even those strategies will fail to help.

I took mine to the Apple Store last Wednesday and it was overnighted to the repair center. It was delivered back to me the this Wednesday. So it took one week in my case. I know there are folks that sent theirs in before I did that had to wait longer, but I think that's because there was a parts shortage.

The first time I sent mine in it worked fine for three weeks and then the RSD returned, but that was because Apple really didn't know at the time what the problem was. By the time I sent it in the second time, they had just concluded that a heatsink replacement would fix the problem. Hopefully they were right - only time will tell, since the issue generally seems to take a few weeks or more to occur.

It will get worse over time. If it only happens rarely, they might not be able to replicate the problem if you take it in for service right away. (The first time I took it to the Apple Store they couldn't get it to shut down. By the time I took it in the second time, it was predictable enough that I knew it would shut done right after they turned it on - then they sent it in for service.) If it happens fairly regularly (like every time you start it after its been sitting for awhile, or any time you wake it from sleep), then definitely take it in. Supposedly they really do know how to fix it now.
and last should i expect to lose everything on the

Both times that I got mine back all of my data was intact. However, it is always good practice to do a full backup before you send it in -- just in case.

Mythtv and Arch - a few problems

Hi fellow Arch users
I have a few dilemmas I wish to share about Arch and Mythtv and hopefully receive some feedback/answers for.
Some background info:
After trying Fedora, K/Ubuntu, and Zenwalk I settled on ArchLinux for both my main distro and my HTPC (mainly because of the start up speed and the lightweight feeling). I have been using Linux for a month or so now, so my knowledge is not all that great but I have managed to get most programs working with a bit of research. Its just I have a few problems with Mythtv that I am unable to solve.

Asrock mATX board (cant remember the model No.)
AMD 1800+ Socket A
512MB RAM
80MB WD 7200RPM
12x DVD ROM
Geforce MX400
DVICO Fusion HDTV Dual PCI
Software
Arch 2.6.16-20(latest available kernel)
KDE (wish to switch to fluxbox when everything is working)
Mythtv + plugins
Questions & Problems:
I've managed to get a functional Mythbox going. The small problems I am having include
1. No working remote/lirc
2. I can start mtd but when I press 0 to rip a DVD it does nothing.
3. when I quit out of mythtv-setup I get an error about ~/recordings/.test is not writable
4. cant get the 2nd tuner working – I managed to download the dvb-usb-bluebird firmware but I'm unsure where it goes (in Arch)
5. if I try to make the latest v4l-dvb it say I am missing lsmod or lnmod cant remember which
6. I get all channels at 10-15% but quality is very good, no hiccups, freezes etc. I cant get one channel though (SBS - I'm in Sydney, Australia)
1. I haven't really tried yet but any advice would be great
2. I imagine this might be a permission issue ie I have to run mythbackend under root
3. doesn't seem to be a problem (yet!)
4. running dmesg tells me it cant find the firmware for the usb-dvb but the pci part of the card works okay
5. I managed to compile an older v4l-dvb source (about a month old, the source that is). I didn't need it as everything is built into the 2.6.16 kernel (I was looking for get_usb_firmware but didn't realise I didn't need to compile it to use it)
6. I know its not my aerial because with a set-top-box I can get all channels including SBS with a signal strength of 80-100%
If anyone can help I will be very grateful and if you require more info and I'll get it to you once I'm near the computer.

C3-01 v6.00 few problems

Hello i have few problems on it, so:
1.I had 1 situation when someone was calling to me and i didn't show him on screen, screen was turned off
2.Sometimes "swipe to unlock" button dissapear
3.I had also problems ,people couldn't call to me, it said that im not available, and they called to other my phone(nokia 2330) which was near me without problems
4. In one song, i can't hear vocal, song works normal on other phone

I got a firmware problem on my zen extra please hel

i was trying to upgrade the Firmware on my Zen Xrta with the PlayForSure but it stops updating and i shut the mp3 player down and now im stuck at rescue mode...i tryed to reload the Firmware but it gives me a MTP device, and don't show up in Windows Media Player beta, Realplayer, or Media Source...when i turn it on it said Firmware Problem and just does on the rescue mode...i want to get out of rescue mode so i can put my songs on..if i sound mean it because i been frusted at this...

For all those still suffering from this problem I managed to get it fixed. While searching about for other people with the same problem I found one post where someone said their player wasn't being recognised and he was recommended to go back to Windows Media Player 0 (instead of ). He said he did it and now it worked. So I did the same (after a few problems with windows I got back to an older version of WMP). I then found on the knowledgebase page a link for people having problems with connection. There are then 2 pieces of software from microsoft (updates I think) it says to install. After I did this and restarted the computer I was able to run the firmware update again and this time the player was recognised, and now it works .
