It was you? (o;

I had a really irritating call at home a couple of days after I updated to W10 (probably no connection but the timing was a tad suspicious).A woman with a loud voice was saying to me "Sir, you've SSID could be compromised (yada yada yada)" To which I repeatedly told her there is nothing wrong with my PC, and if there ever is, I will fix it but she kept talking loudly over me each time Sir, listen to me, Sir, I need to help you, your SSID... " (etc etc etc) "have you got a pen and a piece of paper to write down what I will give you?" etc. This went on and on and an to the point I was practically yelling at her "Stop Talking and listen to me - th..." but no, she kept on interrupting then talking over me to insist in the next couple of days my SSID could fail and she was going to read out a new SSID to me over the phone etc etc... My Droid Maxx deleted all my text messages by itself. I had all of them, got a phone call, and when I got off the call, all my texts where gone. Is there a way I can get them all back? I had a lot and some where really important to me. I turned the phone off and on again thinking that would bring them back because of some glitch but it didn't help. Does anyone know of a way to bring them all back?

It's very possible to get your messages back. Verizon Messages (app) from the Play Store has options both to restore and back up your messages. They can be downloaded as a file and saved on the device or SD card. By pulling the menu out from the left side and choosing "Restore Conversations", you can (hopefully) restore your lost messages but it says for 90 days. I hope this doesn't reach you too late.

  • Phone call scam

I have just received an international phone call from a lady who said she was from the local internet exchange on behalf of BT, Virgin, TalkTalk etc., and everytime I switch on my computer there are corrupted files at the main server. She wanted me to log in to a website so that they could help me rectify this problem.
I asked her if she knew my BT account number because I was suspicious and she then became rather agressive and eventually hung up.
I am positive this was a scam, anyone else heard of it?

what time did you receive the call? did you get the phone number? did you report to the authority?
    Hi whitefalcon
It was around 4pm when I received the call. There was no phone number showing on the call, it just said "international" I have phoned BT to report the call but the call centre operator didn't seem to be much interested and just told me that BT wouldn't phone without using my name and quoting my account number etc.
    Hi again.
I'm afraid that there is virtually nothing BT can do about this. These scammers pretend to be legitimate people, and I have got details about what they try and get people to do (as I pretended to do all I was asked when I had one).
The call could be from anywhere, including internet calls etc. The originating number may not even be fully presented since not all countries have that facility, or can't be trusted to present the full number properly or completely.
The thing to do is either play along and do nothing, or just hang up. You could try asking them for a number to call them back on as you're about to go out.
You can say you use Linux or a Mac. You can ask them how they know that your computer was infected and how they associated your phone number with a problem. Ask them for exact details and give nothing away.
If you don't like playing games with these buffoons, then just hang up.

  • Phone Calls Through Your PC

    Hi there,
Does any one know if you can link your nokia via pc suite to your pc and then make phone calls through it?
For example, use the phone as the microphone for the calls, but rather than hearing your conversation through the phone, the sound comes out of your pc speakers?
I thought it was possible, but i just cant figure out how to do it.
    Thanks!
    Stu

    Hi ryukin!
Unfortunately Nokia doesnt provide any software that allows you to make calls that you receive on your phone through your PC.
Have you considered using a handsfree kit at all?
    Cheers

  • Phone call with your own phone number

Today I receive a phone call with my Home Phone on the Caller ID.  My Phone Number is supposed to be unlisted.

It is likely a scam or robo call who often mask their own numbers by using legitimate numbers.

  • Scam Phone Call

Just got 2 phone calls back to back from 800-888-9614 saying that Verizon was crediting me $83 and to go to www.vzw83.com, log in, and redeem my refund.
There is a website when you type it in and when you click on anything it takes you directly to the Verizon Website.
I'm pretty sure this is a scam, so watch out for it!

I looked up the phone number you shared and http://www.callercenter.com/800-888-9614.html came up along with complaints from several others who got called, too. Looks like this scammer has been calling people for a while now.

A long shot but you might try using the phone to send an email to the phone asking the owner to call their mobile phone.  If the owner has a computer they may get the email and get in contact with you.
But Roger's suggerstion of turning it over to the police is the best bet.

  • Creepy phone call from Apple

My friend received a phone call the other day from an "apple operator" who wanted to know if he was still interested in buying his powerbook. Short of him putting the actual computer in his cart and then not purchasing it, how could she know that he had an interest, and, more importantly, isn't this violating some privacy by calling like this so randomly? Has this happened to anyone else?
    How very big brother...

I got 2 phone call from Apple from the past. Fist time it was about a PowerBook G4 900Mhz that I save the order but never reallly buy it. I guess becasue I save it for later that is why I know that I interested. Normally I have a bunch of Apple product that I want but never really need it so it just on the cart but never save them. So Apple people never call me just that. Second time was after I bought a PowerBook G4 17". The one that I using right now. They called about the Apple Care. They said they call because I used phone support many time so I might be interest in Apple care. So other than that they never call me. I guess Apple keep record of your activity with the company and they make a phone call only when they see the potential of selling you something. It's fine with me.

    Hi Sreedharg2k6,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are not able to receive phone calls on your Mac, you may want to double-check the settings outlined in the "Phone calls" section of this Continuity article:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
If all of these settings seem to be correct, try signing out and back in to iCloud on your Mac:
On your Mac, choose Apple Menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
    From:
    iCloud: Apple ID
    All the best,

  • Iphone 4 during a call can't hear or be heard. But I know both the speakers and the phone call mic work fine.

I bought an iphone 4 and have been having multiple issues since the moment I got it. My biggest issue when I received it was that the noise cancellation mic didn't work. I sent it back to the people I bought it from to fix it and they fixed the other mic but not the noise cancellation mic. So I know that one doesn't work with apps, speaker phone, that sort of thing. I've been just dealing with it and using headphones with a mic on them.
Well once I put my sim card in and had to go through a huge debacle with AT&T to do it, I got a phone call and I couldn't hear anyone and they couldn't hear me. I tried switching it to speaker phone and using my headphones and still nothing. I first tried factory reset and network reset and it didn't do anything. So I tried the fix where you put a piece of cardboard in the phone and the other fix where you loosen and then re-tighten the grounding screw. Now I can hear the other person but only on speaker phone, the call is choppy, but I can hear them so progress! They still couldn't hear me. However, when I took the call off of speaker phone it was back to dead silence. I tried putting in my headphones to see if they could hear me, they still could not hear me even with the headphone mic. I'm not sure what else I can do!! I know the speakers and mic work because I listen to music and play games and I hear those and when recording on voice memo the mic and playback work fine.I also know that it isn't any issue with signal because it happens where ever I am, low signal or all 5 bars! I guess I'll try cleaning them and try putting a thicker piece of cardboard but I don't expect those to work. If you can help with any suggestions at all please let me know! I have been having the worst luck with this phone and i'm getting absolutely fed up.

    Hey there RJOBoston,
Take a look the article below, it provides troubleshooting tips that should resolve the issue you’re running into with not being able to hear or be heard on calls.

  • I noticed that Phone call, is getting disconnected often while on the wheel.

Any one have noticed this problem while using your iPhone:
While you are travelling (on the wheel) and attending a phone call, while your the cell phone receives signal from telecom network tower to tower, your phone call get disconnected automatically. When you look at you phone, it shows there is no network and after sometime (about 2 to 4 Seconds) phone receives signal back.
I am using iPhone 3GS model with iOS 6.1.3 (10B329). I thought this would be my phone problem but when I asked my friends and colleagues (they are using iPhone 5) and they said that even they are facing this issue.
Another issue: Today we (a group) in a club house. We kept 3 iPhones, 1 Nokia phone and a Samsung phone in a line. iPhone receives only 1 network tower (3G) while both the phones (Nokia and Samsung) receives 4 towers out of 5.  Where we all use the same network provider (Corporate connection).
Then what we 3 did is we Switched ON the Airplane Mode and after a while switched OFF this mode. After that iPhone start to receive the full signal.
What is this PROBLEM in iPhone ? What about you (iPhone users) did you face this problem ?
What is the solution ? Any answer ......

It sounds like the vibration motor on your iPhone has failed and will no longer vibrate.

  • IOS 8.02 Phone calls stopped coming to iPad

When iOS 8 first came out, phone calls received on my iPhone 5 could be answered on my iPad Air when they were both on my home wifi network (and, I think, within bluetooth range of each other). This has stopped happening. I'm not sure whether it coincided with the iOS 8.02 update, which both are running now. I tried toggling the handoff switch in settings/general and the FaceTime/cellular switch. Any ideas would be appreciated. I liked that feature.

From the Apple "What's new in iOS 8"
Sometimes when your iPhone rings, it’s not where you are. Maybe it’s charging in another room. Or it’s buried in your backpack. But your Mac or iPad is sitting right there. Now you can make and receive phone calls on those devices as long as your iPhone running iOS 8 is on the same Wi-Fi network. Incoming calls show the caller’s name, number, and profile picture. Just click or swipe the notification to answer, ignore, or respond with a quick message. And making a phone call from your iPad or Mac is just as easy. Simply tap or click a phone number in Contacts, Calendar, or Safari. It all works with your existing iPhone number, so there’s nothing to set up.
