Got an upgrade to cs4 from Elements.  Is Elements' license still valid?

I'm waiting on shipment of an upsell of CS4 from Elements 6.
In the meantime, I was wondering if the upgrade would render my Elements 6 license invalid, or if I can in fact use Elements as well (on the same computer).  I tried a search, and after a long wait did not find an answer to this, so I apologize if this has been beaten to death.
Take care.

"It's a monumentally dumbed-down, limited, emasculated, toy"
"If you like Elements, it's quite possible that you will find the learning curve of Photoshop too daunting."
I'm really at home with CS4 trial actually, I'm not concerned with the learning curve.
From GIMP, the few seconds to locate the new menu items... Perspective clone/Vanishing point, Liquid Rescale/Content-aware scaling, iWarp/Liquefy, etc were made up for with a more workable interface for the most part.
On the other hand, I can see me not wanting to invest much time in taking someone's ex-wife out of the beach photo, etc.  I'm thinking maybe Elements has its use.  It'd be nice.
I’m an Elements ignoramus because it's simply a product I'd normally not bother with for image editting.  GIMP and PS are my only options, none of the midrange tools cut it.
If it's a nice replacement for iPhoto on the Mac, and is more robust and can kick someone off a picture for me in a couple seconds, I could see it being of use.
Anyway it's real nice to finally have Photoshop and nice to be here.

  • Trying to Upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended

I am trying to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended.  The Adobe web page states to call Adobe support for this upgrade.  I call them before I attempt the upgrade to ask what I should do.  They tell me to intall it and call back.  I get to the serial screen and call back, they tell me to fully install it in trial mode, then call back.  I do this and call back, but notice it installed CS4 Extended, not CS4.  They tell me they can't help me because I purchased only CS4.  That is all I want is CS4, so I uninstall CS4 extended and try again.  Again the install(from disk) installs CS4 Extended(At least that is what the title page says).
Do I need to uninstall CS3 Extended before I install the CS4 Trial version?
    Thanks for any help,
    bdriscoll

    Mylenium,
Thanks for the reply.  You are correct and the next support person understood that and got it fixed.
    thanks again for your reply,

  • HT201364 If I upgrade to Mavericks from Snow Leopard will I still be able to use Microsoft office??

If I upgrade to Mavericks from Snow Leopard will I still be able to use Microsoft office??

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Only if you have Office 2008 or 2011. Older Office versions are PowerPC apps, so they no longer work with Mavericks.
If you are running Office 2008 or 2011, open any Office app, go to Help menu (in the menu bar) > Check for Updates, and install the latest version.
If you are using an older Office version, uninstall it and install another application:
Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011 by buying it from the Microsoft website.
Install Apple iWork applications after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.
    Install LibreOffice > http://www.libreoffice.org.
Remember to make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading.

  • Is my Adobe CC for photographers license still valid if I change from Windows 32 bit to 64 bit?

I've bought a license for Adobe CC for photographers (costs 10$ a month), and now going to upgrading my operating system from Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit. I know that there is a 64 bit version for Photoshop, don't know about Bridge. So, is my license still valid if I upgrade, or do I have to buy a new CC program for photographers for the 64 bit version of Photoshop??
    TIA

    Good to know information :
You can install and activate Creative Cloud subscription Apps on 2 computers. (Either on Mac or Windows  as per your choice) .
Either it may be 32 bit or 64 bit , it does not matters, the subscription will be counted based of number of activation done as per Machine ID's.
Before , you upgrade the computer to 64 bit, better to Sign out from Creative Cloud desktop application.
If the Machine ID changes just in case , it will be counted as 2'nd activation.
Sign in, Sign out | Creative Cloud desktop app
Even though, if  you had exceeded Maximum activation limit(Already activated on 2 computers) , still you can reset the activation count to Zero, so that you can again activate CC subscription on any of 2 computers as per your choice.

  • Free upgrade to CS4 from CS3.3?

    Hi,
I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and am thinking about upgrading to CS4 when it comes out.
However I have noticed some sites advertising Free upgrade to CS4 if you purchase the upgrade to CS3.3. Is this free upgrade to CS4 valid if I upgrade from CS3 to CS3.3 now? As I read somewhere it is only valid if you are upgrading from an earlier version?
Or, if I upgraded from CS3 design premium to CS3.3 master collection, would that allow me to get the free upgrade to CS 4 Master Collection?
    Thanks,
    Nellie

    Dear Bob,
I have a difficulty to understand what you are writing.
First you write that the release of Acrobat 9 would be a red flag... I guess you mean that if Adobe extend a suite with additional software this means that another Suite is close? I understood it to be a intermediate release in order to keep customers happy until a new release was ready, but that period would be long and therefore the intermediate release was necessary. As of today I understand that you and Adobe have a better consensus in this matter.
Why did we not need CS3 for 17 months? Well if you read my posts you would have noticed that we have had Design Premium CS3 since release but things change in the world and with a new employee needing Master Collection to correspond to new prospect customer demand we had to purchase a new seat. However, to find out upon opening the box that CS4 is launched and that our new customer was going for that release, whereas we had paid full price for an obselete software, thereby loosing customer(not yet though, lets hope Adobe and we come to a agreement), unless we pay another 1k doesn't make us happy.
If we had got the info that CS4 was close we wouldn't have purchased CS3.3 since we then would have the possibilty to discuss the matter with our prospect customer and both could have waited for CS4 release. Meanwhile we could have handled shortterm stuff with our CS3 Design P.
How to handle this in the future. Well either we all users have to continue our search on internet and on forums to find out what the rumour is...
... or Adobe put progress reports on their official website about next release planned in x months. I write planned since I understand that writing software usually takes more time than planned, but at least it should not come to a situation where a release is launched earlier than the rumour in forums etc.
Any other suggestions to Adobe how to handle releases?

  • Upgrading Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3

    Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade only Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3 or do I have to buy the whole Creative Suite 4?
I bought an upgrade for Indesign CS4, but now I can use it only as a testversion, because when I start the programme
it asks me besides the new serial number for Indesign 4 also for a serial number of CS3.
But I have only one serial number for the complete Creative Suite and this one will not be accepted.
    What can I do?

    Hello Mr. Spier,
thank you for answering. So I will buy the complete bundle.
    Have a nice day

  • Upgrade to CS4: from CS2 upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full

Ok, I've decided to go to CS4 from CS2 on my Intel Mac.  Yeah I bought CS2 unknowingly for my Intel Mac and have not been happy with the performance.
Are there any special install procedures for doing a fresh install of CS4 upgrade on Snow Leopard 10.6 (not that it really matters that it is 10.6 vs. 10.5), with CS2 Upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full?
If I remember correctly I had to call Adobe when I went from Photoshop 3.0 to CS2 with the Upgrade disc.
How might the install process go?

    Web logic should upgrade first

  • Upgrading to CS4 from CS, is it possible?

    Hey all,
I did a bit of research before posing this question, but I cannot get a real satisfactory answer. I can only find upgrading CS2 to CS4 questions.
So I am still in the dark ages with the original adobe CS Design Standard Package and looking to upgrade to CS4 Design Standard. I found an upgrade package online and that the current owner has deactivated the licence and will have a transferable lincense that will be included in the sale.
    So my questions are;
The lastest version I can upgrade is to CS4 not CS5 or 5.5, from CS, correct? (Standard Design Package)
Has anyone gone through this type of transaction, where they had a transferable license? Are there any issues with this?
Any other comments that would help with my questions above, that I haven't thought of, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!!

Upgrades are not transferrable without every earlier version going along.
In short, your chances of successfully buying an upgrade and getting it activated are pretty much zero and even if you do, you'll still be very out of date.
My advice: if you need to upgrade, bite the bullet and pay full price for CS5.5.

  • Can I upgrade a CS4 from the UK with a CS5 I can get from US?

    Hello - can you help?
I bought CS4 Design Premium in the UK last year, and a second seat of CS5 last autumn. We're having problems using both together so I want to upgrade the CS4 to CS5. I can't afford to upgrade both to CS5.5. The only CS4-CS5 upgrade I've found in on Amazon.com in the US. Please can you tell me for sure whether if I buy this, will it upgrade my UK version ok?
    Thank you for your advice.

Thanks for the answer Mylenium, appreciate the help.
The only thing is I'm a bit confused now becuase I've just had an email back from an IT mate of mine:
"I can assure you that you can. I took a copy from the US and installed  it for a friend in the Philippines and it worked just fine. All that  matters is you have a Retail Copy, and a valid license. There are some  region restrictions on some of there products, but thats most based on  the OEM / VL copys and not retail."
So which one is correct? It's kind of important we get this right, it's the difference between about £400 and £1300 for two upgrades... one means I can still pay the bills this month, the other means my kids ain't gonna be getting birthday presents... or food.

  • Trying to upgrade to CS4 from Elements 6.0

I downloaded the CS4 Upgrade and am trying to get it to accept my serial from PS ELements 6.0. I got the 6.0 from a bundle with my Wacom Cintiq a couple of months ago, and there is nothing on there that indicates that it is anything less than a full version of the Elements. It says my serial # is not correct. I am using Windows XP. Has anyone had any troubles like this?
    -Michael

That's strange... why would it give Elements 6.0 as an option from its dropdown menu to give a serial number for when it is upgrading?
Edit.. and this is the fine print from the e-mail that they sent me about the upgrade: The US$299 price offer for Adobe Photoshop CS4 standard software is available only to licensed users of Photoshop Elements Windows 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0; Photoshop Elements Mac 3.0, 4.0, and 6.0; Adobe Photoshop Elements plus Adobe Premiere® Elements bundle; and Adobe Photoshop Elements & Adobe Premiere Elements bundle who purchase the full version of Photoshop CS4 standard directly from Adobe. The US$299 promotional price is redeemable only from the Adobe.com store or when you call customer service. When purchasing from the Adobe.com store, you must enter directly from your e-mail in order for the discount to be reflected. Offer begins August 15, 2009, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on September 15, 2009. Limit one copy of Adobe Photoshop CS4 standard per customer.  Offer is not valid to owners of Photoshop Album, Photoshop Limited Edition, or PhotoDeluxe®. Offer is not valid on Photoshop CS4 Extended. Offer is not valid to education or volume licensing customers, as well as resellers. Prices are in U.S. dollars. • Procedure to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 without retaining CS3

I am running 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro. I now have Photoshop CS3 on the MBP. My Photoshop CS4 upgrade DVD just showed up in the mail, and I can't wait to use it.
I would like to install CS4, retain the preferences and presets from CS3 (Photoshop, Bridge, Camera Raw), and get rid of CS3 from my hard drive.
I was unable to find directions on the DVD, Adobe's site, or the forum. I found references to the importance of uninstalling CS3 first before installing CS4 (installing CS4 first and then uninstalling CS3 supposedly would remove some support files required by CS4 and require the reinstallation of CS4).
But if I were to uninstall CS3 before installing CS4, how would the CS4 installer be able to find evidence of CS3 on my MBP, which I presume would be required for the upgrade to work? And, how would I be able to retain my preferences and presets from the Photoshop, Bridge, and Camera Raw in CS3?
I realize from reading some of the posts here that some people prefer to have both CS3 and CS4 on their computers, and others want to only have CS4. I am in the latter camp.
Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I can't edit that but I will report what happen.
It now appears I either logged in as a different user , did an archival reinstall of my system before install the CS programs or the installer will only allow you a one time install and you have either install everything or you have to install all the CS3 programs you intend with that one install.
That would mean I have uninstall the one of the programs of CS3 I have installed and reinstall that and photoshop CS3 at the same time.
Though CS4 install is much more robust there should be a way to install the last version as well. Eventually there will be no disk or even a download but there has to be a formula and reasonable policy for uses who need to use the current as well as the older version of Adobe software.
However no matter how or why this eventually manifest itself it does and I think it should not.

  • Should Flash newbie upgrade to CS4 from Flash 8?

I manage a web site at my job and I'm getting more requests for projects that involve flash. I'm still new to flash. The extent of my experience has been seeing a couple of tutorials and creating a few photo galleries. My other Adobe software is CS3, but the version of Flash I have is Flash 8. If I'm going to be doing more with flash, should I request an upgrade from Macromedia Flash 8 to CS4? I'm worried that at some point I'm going to discover that I learned the old way and that everything is done a lot differently and more efficiently in the current version. I'm also concerned that the end result will be less compatible. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Good point... that's my plan.  I was lucky enough to catch the lamentations when they released CS4 and decided to avoid getting it.  It won't bother me if I have to pass again should they offer the same nonsense when they release CS5

  • Upgrade to CS4 from Academic/Education CS2?

Can I upgrade to a regular CS4 Web premium from an academic CS2?
    Thanks,

Yes, moving from CS2 to CS4 is a major step, especially since you're using an unsupported operating system. Each application has had many new features and enhancements added them.
You can check out my favorites for InDesign here: http://theindesignguy.com/cs4-thoughts.shtml
And those are just from CS3. Dreamweaver has CS4 has some terrific new features such as the code navigator, live view, live code.
As for pricing, you'll need to check locally. I believe Adobe has non-profit pricing and definitely offers steep discounts to students and teachers.

  • Upgrade to CS4 from CS2 - worth it?

    Hi,
Good afternoon, I wonder if anybody can advise me on the core difference between Creative Suite 2 (Premium) and upgrading to the CS4 version of the software. Is there signicant difference? I am now on Windows 7.
We are a small charity and use InDesign and Photoshop to produce our charity magazine, and Dreamweaver to design and maintain our website.  The upgrade is £606, and the new software on the charity license is the same price. This is an awful lot of money for us, so before upgrading I wanted to find out if the software is vastly improved or more or less the same.
I am finding a few problems with Dreamweaver 8 since I upgraded the PC to Windows 7, but the software is functional which is why I looked at upgrading, but the cost is putting us off.
Does anybody know if they offer an upgrade price for teachers/charities, they only list full software pricing on the website.
    Kind regards,
    Ashley
