Got diet Coke into my macbook pro, but it still works

Hi all,
About 2 weeks ago diet coke got sucked into my MBP.  I dried it out, took it to the apple store, got it checked out and it was kept over night to test; came back passing all the tests.
I have witnessed no decrease in speed and the only problem I've had since is I had to restart the computer a couple times due to the trackpad not working.
Is there a possibility of it dying down the road?  I'd rather replace the computer with all my data in tact now than wait for the thing to die.
Thank you for your help

Be glad it wasn't regular Coke or flies could be a problem.
All kidding aside, your concern about failure is valid as the carbonic acid in fizzy drinks likely accelerates corrosion. Only time will tell how much damage can occur. I highly recommend that you create a bootable clone with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner in order to preserve your data in case of failure or need to troubleshoot.

imported old computer via time machine into new 2012 macbook pro, but its still running ilife 09 instead of 11?

I am assuming you had iLife 09 on the old computer - when you moved everything over, that came along with it.
I also have older versions of iLife (on install disks) and just recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro. I noticed that iMovie 11, iPhoto and Garageband (I think) are listed in my Mac App Store Purchases with a notation to "accept". So you might want to check MAS to see if the apps are sitting there.
Now, I have chosen not to accept them for now for two reasons: I have iLife 11 on a disk and prefer that rather than having it tied to MAS/Apple ID and as long as I have my disk version installed, I also still have iDVD which I use a lot. I'm not sure if "accepting" those three from MAS would wipe out my iLife 11 installs including iDVD (which would be unacceptable for me). So, since I already have the latest version, I've opted to ignore the "accept" and, in fact, will leave it like that - if I ever sell this machine, the buyer can then accept them if they want with their own Apple ID. So before accepting the apps (if they are listed in MAS), you might want to check to make sure that your iLife install isn't wiped out - that is, if you have iDVD and want to keep it.

Sorry genius.....but if the Recovery disk shows up that means the disk cable isn't bad.  Could be he did have a screwed up HDD and when he put the NEW HDD in (after putting the OS on it via USB) the computer didn't reconize it and therefore didn't boot the OS.  Just maybe right genius?  Don't rush to criticize someone's recommendations until you realize other possibilities.  (I did say "if it does")
    Thank you

You haven't identified the version so I can't tell if offering you contact options for Adobe Support will be of use to you.  But they will likely be your only hope of getting resolution unless you just happen to be using the wrong number as the serial number.

  • I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.
Kappy has provided a good article on running Windows on a Mac and the various options. Here is the link:

  • My friend has an iPhone 4, and I have a Macbook Pro. I'm trying to FaceTime her with my Macbook Pro, but it never works!

I'm trying to call my friend on FaceTime. She has an iPhone 4, and whenever I try to call her phone number, it says, "Name is not available for FaceTime" but it works on my iPad. I want to FaceTime her from my Macbook Pro. I know I have to call her iPhone phone number, but it never works. Can anyone help me?

Right click the printer in System Prefences -  Print & Scan and use Reset Printing System... and then reinstall the printer, should take less than 5 minutes. Here is a photo showing how to Reset Printing System....

  • Turn on MacBook Pro but screen still black

So, I tried to turn on my Mac. And when I hit power button, it starts and suddenly the white screen goes off. And I'm no longer available to see my screen.
I restart my Mac with the power button and nothing yet, screen still black. Even try safe mode but didn't work.
Don't know if it's hardware or software issue. Help please.

If a SMC reset does not help, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  I suspect that there are hardware problems with your MBP.  Probably the display or the GPU.

  • Coffee spill on Macbook Pro (nothing done, still works..!?)

My sister spilled a cup of coffee on her Macbook Pro. She was very fast in turning it off and cleaning off all liquid.
Naturally she took it to the shop - they briefly checked it out and told her "it can stop working and die any time". Afraid of losing data and being without a computer she immediately bought a new one (as it was so expensive to fix it - it was not worth it).
This happened 18 months ago and this week she rediscovered the 2010 Macbook Pro 13 SSD amongst her moving boxes - I have fired it up and it still works as it did when it was new.
I do expect it now to die any time, but needless to say - I wonder, if 18 months have passed, it is not slower, no sounds are coming from it - perhaps the repair/service guys exaggerated a bit, maybe its still fine to work?  I mean...after all this time?
    Anyone with similar experience?

I think that they were talking about a generality, where if not treated, could fail at any given time.

  • I got my mom's old MacBook Pro but it has all her old stuff on it. How do I reset it to factory settings?

    Explained in Top

Just reinstall OS X. Boot up your Mac from the OS X installation disc and follow the instructions. Before you select the installion hard drive, choose Utilities > Disk Utility from the menu bar. In Disk Utility, select the hard drive and choose "Erase". Then close Disk Utility and install OS X.

  • My Sandisk 8gb card won't download into my MacBook pro. It was working perfectly 24hrs ago. Any ideas out there?

How can this be? As I have changed nothing in my mac. It's so frustrating, can anyone suggest what to do?

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Have any of you loaded a C   compilers into a MacBook Pro? Does this work ok?

Which complier did you use in the MacBook Pro

You will probably get more and better help with this in Apple's developer forums.
Most of the people here are ordinary users who just want to keep their computers running. The developer forums are mostly for programmers.
    Best of luck.

  • 2 thunderbolt displays worked fine daisy chained, moved one to work in other room, now only one will work.  both work independantly or both plugged into my macbook pro.

I have 2 thunderbolt displays and have had them daisy chained for months where I only would plug one into my macbook pro 15" retina and both displays have worked great.  The other day I moved one of them into the conference room, connected also a HDMI cord to a projector to do some work with staff on software design.
I brought my thunderbolt back into my office and plugged it back into the other thunderbolt dispay, then plugged the other display back into my macbook and started it up and now I can only get one to work daisy chained.  They both work great independantly or if both of them are plugged into my macbook pro, but not daisy chained any longer.
Is there a setting I need to look at to maybe reset so that my macbook pro will use both thunderbolt displays daisy chained?
Thanks for anyones advice and sharing any similar issues and how you fixed the issue.

    Hi there,
The first thing that I would recomend is resetting the PRAM on your portable.
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11243
If the issues persist, then you may need to force the device to detect displays.
OS X Mountain Lion: About the Display pane of System Preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5369
    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.

  • .osx file extension works on MacBook Pro but not Mac Pro

So I have a file that was created, I believe in Macromedia Flash (not certain) but it has a .osx extension on it. It works just fine on my MacBook Pro, but won't work on a Mac Pro. Both have Leopard, both have most of the same software on them... Can anybody offer any help?

    jaypie77,
First, you must identify the application that created the file. If it truly was Macromedia Flash, fine. Once you know which app created the file, make certain that the same application exists on the Mac Pro. If it does, set the file to open in that application: Open a Getinfo window for the file, then use the "Open With..." dialogue to choose Macromedia Flash (or the correct application) to open the file.

  • I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wires apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wires apple id for iTunes?

I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wifes apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wifes apple id for iTunes?

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
