Got error message after I exec quartz-wm in terminal.app

Question

after I run this under command line:
stellit:~ stellit$ /usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm --only-proxy
I got this error, anybody knows why ?
can't open default display
How to solve this problem ?

Hi Qian Wu,
   Daniel is right; that command used in the ~/.xinitrc file. Of course the Quartz window manager is used in proxy mode to enable copy-and-paste when using another window manager. Thus, it's not run as an argument of the "exec" command at the end of the file as it would be if it were being used as the window manager. I invoke it before other executables but I don't remember if there was any reason for doing so. Thus, the end of my ~/.xinitrc looks like the following:
/usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm --only-proxy &
/sw/bin/gkrellm &
/sw/bin/Eterm --geometry 80x36023 &
exec /sw/bin/enlightenment
I know that you don't use the same programs but hopefully you can adapt the example.
