Got error message "not enough free disk space to encode remaining assets"

Although my media folder contains 32 GB for my iMovie project, and the hard drive says it has 39 GB free, it still give this message. I thought that would be adequate to burn the movie in iDVD. What is the problem?

I need a couple more gigs on the volume the application was on
Let me rephrase that:
You need a couple more gigs on the volume your SYSTEM is on. (That's where the system puts all temp files it needs and where the apps put the temp files THEY need)

How much hard drive space do you have remaining? How much data are you trying to burn (i.e. are you sure the capacity of the disc is high enough?)

If you can't free up enough space by deleting items, get an external hard drive and move the files there. An absolute minimum of 25 GB is required by iDVD.

IDVD is limited by the duration of your movie and nothing else.
A single layer DVD is good for about two hours. A dual layer DVD is good for about three hours and 45 minutes.
You do need a certain amount of free space to create DVDs.
To burn your iDVD project to a single-layer DVD disc, you should have 8 to 10 gigabytes (GB) of free disk space on your hard disk, depending on the size of your project. For double-layer discs, you need 15 to 20 GB of free disk space. To check how much disk space you have, Control-click the hard disk icon on your desktop and choose Get Info. Then look next to Available to see how much space you have.
The encoded DVD files remain on your hard disk inside your project’s folder. If you do not want to save the encoded files after you burn your project to a disc, you can delete them.

How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.

i keep getting this error msg from all web browsers "could not download file because there is not enough disk space"
i have repaired permissions and tried downloading to a different folder all to no avail and have plenty of disk space 50 gig
if i log in to another account there is no problem downloading
i am still able to download thing from itunes and software updates
anyone know how to fix this problem?

I have the same error message but I can not save anything from word documents to pictures in photo booth, but I have 25.42 GB available out of 55.57 GB. I have tried deleting alot of stuff and changed the download file... nothing working

When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem. I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.

3 - launch IDVD and try again.
Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk. If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).

Yes. The disk drive has too much data on it. You are either going to have to move some to other disk drives or delete some.

Yes - This is important.
Free Space - Must be on the Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk and can not be used on any other.
My safe level is a minimum of 25Gb free space - to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK.
This is due to that Mac OS X is in reality UNIX and there by needs lot's of temporary space for temp. files and so does the application iDVD. And this can not be addressed elsewhere.
So to free up space - one thing is to move iMovie Events to an external hard disk BUT THIS MUST BE DONE Right Else all can be lost ! !
• Never move or adjust any folders Named - iMovie Events or iMovie Projects - on Desktop/Finder - links will breake and can be hard to impossibly to heal. ALL movings must be done within iMovie Application (it goes for iMovie'08 to 11)
• External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will NOT WORK FOR VIDEO - nearly everything else BUT NOT VIDEO.

I know this will probably sound dumb, but I burned a dvd with less space this morning and now this is the message I'm getting for the same project and I have a little more than what I had last time. Can someone explain this or tell me what I can do? I'm not sure what else I can remove to free up more space at the moment.

You will need at least 15 GB's of free space on the boot volume and hopefully you have more than this. If you have less then iDvd may have a number of issues in burning your dvd; or rather attempting to burn the dvd.
If you do not have the available HD space, then you'll need to clear some items off the boot volume prior to burning to Dvd-R.
Things to remove would be things like completed iMovie and iDvd project files. If you have a vast collection of music, photos & videos; burning them to dvd helps as does using Monolingual to clear languages other than English (if you can afford to do so). The latter will clear between 500 MB's to 2 GB's from the main HD depending on which languages are deleted. (I'd highly recommend NOT deleting English).

Not enough free disk space to export photos

Apple Mavericks OSX 10.9.4, processor 3.06 GHz, memory 4gb 1067 MHz

I am having trouble exporting a sizable photo album slideshow from iPhoto to a flash drive.
I have spent countless hours captioning some 3000 family photos into about 20 albums. The number of photos in albums ranges from 20 to 295.
I've been successful in exporting each album slideshow to a 16gb flash drive except for the two largest ones, with 232 (351mb) and 295 photos (555mb). For these two, I get a very quick error message "not enough free disk space. Free up space on the disk and try again." There is plenty of space on my 16gb flash drive, and my desktop has more than 440gb free space out of 495 total.
I've tried updating iPhoto to v. 9.1 without success. Is this an iPhoto issue? I'd rather not switch to iLife and have to pay for it.
I am very average at systems stuff, so please make your suggestions in language I can understand! Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

How did you arrive at the numbers you got for available space? Some things are not counted in the amount of space depending on what you did (like local Time Machine snapshots, etc) and some things are. I use the "df -kt" (shows everything in KBytes - use "-mt" if you prefer to see the numbers in Mbytes or "-gt" to see in GBytes) command in a Terminal window to list the total size, amount used, amount free for all mounted volumes.
Do you have "Read&Write" permissions on the disk you're trying to save to? Perhaps there are some "hidden" folders taking up a lot of space?

IDVD not enough free disk space

iDVD is giving me the error: not enough free disk space for encoding assets when I try to burn a disk or create a disk image. After reading other posts the issue seems to be not enough memory on the computers hard drive, but there is 174.73 GB of space remaining...
All of the files for the dvd (photos, imovie file, clips, music, ect) are saved on a thumb stick for security. I can't think of why it would not be able to burn.
Any help would be much appreciated!

How much space is available on the thumb drive?
iDVD may be using that disk for scratch, so it may need more space on this drive than is available. Off-hand I don't know of a way to change the scratch disk, beyond moving your source material to the main drive before you burn.

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" error message, but Finder shows plenty of disk space available

Apologies if this is a double post, but I have been searching all over and can't seem to find this issue in the forums.
I have a 256GB Macbook with a fresh copy of Lion installed, am going through the process of migrating files back over, after which I have approximately 125GB free. However, whenever I go online and try to download any type of file (PDF, sofware install files, etc.), an error message displays saying:
Safari could not download the file “blahblahblah.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.
Not sure how this is possible since the .dmg file is 18MB and Finder is saying there is over 125GB free. I've tried repairing disk permissions, booting off the Lion recovery disk and repairing the startup disk, all to no avail. Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks for the suggestion. That wasn't the problem, but your suggestion did shed light on something else. I was able to perform a right-click action and Save File As... to my Documents folder. On further analysis, it appears that the "Macintosh HD", Downloads folder, and Desktop are showing the "pencil with a line through it" icon in the bottom left of the Finder window, which would suggest those areas are read-only for some reason.
My user account is the only one on the machine and it's an admin account. Any guesses as to why that might have set itself that way, or any suggestions on how to change it? I've already tried repairing permissions on the startup disk in Disk Utility.

I am trying to install Oracle E-Business Suite R12 and I want to place my database directly onto ASM instead of a standard installation and then converting that into ASM.
I have installed GRID and configured an ASM instance and when I proceed with the installation using the rapidwiz, during the File Space checks I am getting this error.
RW-20013: Error: - Not enough free disk space on system:
Database System File Directory = +DATA
required = 15400.0
actual = 6916.375
My DATA diskgroup has around 90 GB of space.
Can anybody help me out?

You say your DG has "around 90 GB of space." how did you arrive at that? Is that supposed to be the size of the DG, or the available space in the DG?
