Got iChat to work, just one little problem...

After a long period of constantly getting the message: couldn't connect because 'user' didn't reply", I've managed to get iChat to work again - sort of. I set my outgoing port to 443 under Accounts, and in my router configurations. There is just a small problem, it seems I have to restart my router for it to work - every time.
If I restart my router, then iChat will gladly open a videochat afterwards, and it works every time I start a new chat, until I quit iChat. If I quit iChat and then start up iChat again, it won't work, and I'll get the same 'didn't reply' error message. If I restart the router again however, it will work again.
Just wondering if anyone knows why this is or what can be done about it.
iChat used to work a treat for me every time, until I installed a Tiger update, I believe it was 10.4.3 - then everything stopped working properly in iChat...
Would appreciate if there were any tech-savvy iChat users out there. I haven't been able to use iChat properly for months (without having to restart the router every tim- which I just figured out) Thanks!

It sounds as if you router isn't responding to UPnP commands correctly. Some routers have UPnP but are not certified.
You may want to consider setting a static IP address on your MAC, then port forwarding the correct ports in your router to you mac.

Never got iChat to work a single time in 4 years

I got my first mac in 2006 and always wanted to use iChat instead of Skype because of the feeling I get that Apple products must be easier to use than others'
But over the years, I've tried using iChat from around 10.4.5 up until 10.6.1 and never succeeded. I have had 2 macbooks in that time, different ISPs, different routers, DMZ, Google Talk, .Mac, AIM, MobileMe, I've tried it all. I tried dialling out from different countries on different continents. I never got it to work a single time while Skype hardly ever fails (except that AT&T seems to block Skype to landline calls). While I am an avid mac user and have converted about 10 of my friends to switch over to mac already, I must say that using Skype on Windows almost never fails to do what it's supposed to.
Before even querying about the technical problems, I think it's fairly reasonable to accept that this is beyond a technical issue if a software that is supposed to help sell mac hardware never worked on such a multitude of different circumstances.

I find it hard to believe you have gone 4 years without getting iChat to work.
I am no pro but I have never had a problem with my iChat.
Like my 2000 Powerbook and airport I have found that I could wireless network my house in 2000.
The same with iChat I have never had a problem and enjoyed the AV version right from day one.
I think that is 6 years ago now.
Ichatting with people in full screen video for last 6 years on the other side of the world. You can't beat that.
One early thing I discovered was adjustments or checks of the firewall tohave it allow iChat on certain ports. As for a comparison with Skype it is obvious you have not experienced iChatAV at all because you would find it hard to use Skype after the quality and size and clarity of iChat AV.

Don't worry about sounding like a MSkype advocate you don't know any different and don't worry about being critical or asking for help. Apple users are the most critical of their own product.
That means that if you find a problem don't put up with it for 4 years. The problem is bound to be well checked out in advanced and engaged in forums exploring the solutions.
So persist and enjoy the technology.

Audio+Video Chat works but one small problem.Pls help.

as i had posted once before in a different query's thread, i have implemented audio and video chat using AVTRansmit2 and avreceive2.
audio and video chat work well.By video chat i mean not only video but VIDEO+AUDIO as well.. just like usual yahoo video chat.
But the problem is like this:-=
I have given an option for user to switch from audio chat to video chat.
now if a user first goes to audio chat and then switched to video chat,
then the problem comes. When he's shifted to video chat i close down previous Audio chat by RTPManager.dispose() , i close the player and everything..
and then i start Video transmit/receive "ALONG WITH" audio transmit/receive..
No this time video starts but audio doesnt work ..
it says"waiting for rtp data to arrive.... "
The problem is that when this new stream of audio data comes, the receiver somehow thinks that its the same old stream since its from same transmitter IP.. and so it tries to UPDATE the previous stream.
It means there is some problem with the close method or RTPManager.dispose() which should have disposed off all the stuff much before the new connection was made.
PLS HELP ASAP>

well, i had tried doing removetargets and also, i had disposed RTPManager well. As it turns out the problem was not with any of it but it was the problem of me incorrectly passing RTPManager from AVReceive2 to AVTransmit2.
Actually i am using just one RTPManager.. since i am receiving and transmitting on the same port.
i've solved the problem but i am not sure if this is the right way .. what do you think ??
is creating just one RTPManager {by that,i mean initializing it only once} a good idea ?? Since we are supposed to call both AVTransmit2 and AVReceive2 with the "LOCAL PORT" .. {which in itself is a matter of discussion though! } i and my project mate thought initializing RTPManager only once is a better option .
Whats your take on all of this ?

How I Got iChat to Work

I finally got my iChat to work after a lot of research, especially from reading this forum. I want to thank Ralph John (Great website), Tony defcom1 (netgear suggestions), and RJ in WI (for testing my iChat connection). I want to share with the readers of this forum what I did so that it might help you. I basically had to implement practically every suggestion I found.
My equipment: mac mini with core duo and 1 GB of ram, OSX 10.4.7 connected wirelessly to a Netgear WRG614v6 router which is connected to a SBV5120 Motorola VOIP cable modem. My broadband speeds are 12Mbps download and 1.7 Mbps upload. I'm using iChat with AIM.
Quicktime preferences, streaming: changed speed to 1.5Mbps
iChat preferences, accounts, server settings: changed port from 5190 to 443. Note that you have to be logged out of AIM to change this. I did this before I learned about port forwarding so I could log into AIM.
System preferences, sharing, firewall: off. It also works with firewall on but with the correct ports opened. Click on New...select other, TCP port numbers: 5190, UDP port numbers: 5190, 5060, 5678, 16384-16403, and description: iChat. For the UDP ports, there needs to be a space after each comma.
Set up static IP addresses:
Step 1: Gather the information you'll need. You have to access your router directly via Safari by entering in the router's IP address, name and password. For the WGR614v6 it is http://192.168.1.1, name: admin, password: admin. Note: you can't change the name. The default password is admin, but you should change it.
Click Router status in the menu on the left side and write down the Domain Name server IP addresses. There are two.
Step 2: Back in my mac: System preferences, network: click Configure, click TCP/IP. For Configure IPv4, select Manually. IP Address: 192.168.1.22, Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, Router: 192.168.1.1, DNS servers: The two you got in Step 1.
Note: I used 192.168.1.22 for my mac mini, 23 and 24 for two other PCs on the network and 100 for my network printer. Other numbers will also work.
Step 3: Back in the Netgear router settings: Click on LAN IP Settings: Uncheck Use Router as DHCP server.
At this point, check to see that you still have internet access. Otherwise, recheck your settings. If all else fails, press the reset button on your router to return to the factory settings.
Set up Port forwarding: Back in the Netgear Router settings: Click on Port Forwarding/Port Triggering.
1. Click on Add Custom Service. Service Name: iChat1, Service type: TCP/UDP, Starting port: 5190, Ending port: 5190, Server IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Note this is the same as the IP Address for your mac with iChat. Click Apply.
2. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat2, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 5060, Ending Address: 5060, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
3. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat3, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 5678, Ending Address: 5678, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
4. Click on Add Custom Service: Service Name: iChat4, Service type: UDP, Starting Address: 16384, Ending Address: 16403, IP Address: 192.168.1.22. Click Apply.
Adjust UPnP settings: In Netgear router settings: click on UPnP. Leave UPnP on. Change Advertisement period to 5 and Advertisement time to live to 2. Note: UPnP by itself did not work for me.
Logout off you router.
Start iChat. Make sure you can connect to the Apple testers, AIM appleu3test01, appleu3test02, appleu3test03.
Hope this works for you. I used to get -8 errors most every time. Now I am error free.

Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
It does seem that iChat regards the fact that a PC with no Mic and no camera is not sending any data and regards this as a fault and ends the chats, normally, with the 10 sec error.

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/wesites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view. Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by removing them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing.

I have an iPhone 4 and the flash works great theirs just a little problem. Theirs times that it don't work... Anybody have an idea what it might be ? I resented my iPhone 2 but somehow it only flashes with the LED light from the notifications.

I read the article thanks. I tried the settings-general-reset-reset network settings-reboot system-go to wifi settings-select wireless connection-select the ">"-symbol-select auto for http proxy. I was optimistic about that because I thought I changed some setting somehow to cause this problem, but it didn't work. More specifically, I did connect successfully and browsed the Internet for a good while, but then I put down the phone for a minute, the phone went into sleep/power save mode, and when I picked it back up a moment later it was no longer connected. Dang. Had to select the connection and use my password yet again.
Another valuable bit of info for you. The only network with which I have this problem is my home. I use all kinds of devices at home and no other devices have this problem. Also, I use this iPhone all over with various wifi networks at hotels and starbucks and family's homes with no issues whatsoever. It remembers and automatically reconnects with every wireless network except the one in my own house.

Works, just one problem, make disk images non read only

I have a script that enables me to drop a file onto it and will ask for a text. It will copy the file and the text inside a new disk image.
However the created is read only, i would prefer it if i could edit it's contents.

I don't know how much I can help but maybe you need to make a disk image first then convert it to get your results instead of creating the disk image in one step? In the "attach" function you have the possibility to select read/write. And interesting comments "about overriding the decision to make read only." (See man hdiutil under attach)
But this is just a thought...for what it's worth?

I created two layers. One with a square which I converted to
a button symbol named "myButton" so as to sync up with the code.
The second layer was devoid of objects and just contained the
script. I also tried this script in the same layer as the object,

After that, try changing the instance name in frame two (both

One other thing to consider... change MOUSE_UP to CLICK. I
know in AS2, onMouseUP relates to a mouse activity, regardless of

Just a little problem

When I am playing my music through iTunes 7 the song, that I am playing, randomly seem to skip down a few places. It's kind of hard to explain and I hope I am not making it too difficult to understand.

Say I start playing "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" it will jump down to track 8 (or anywhere down the list). It may seem like a small problem but it makes it unable to play an album straight through! It jumbles everything up
It only happens when I am playing my ipod through the PC and my music list is sorted by 'Album '. Not when I sort by 'Album by year' or 'Album by Artist'

I've had exactly the same problem, but have worked out how to fix it. I'm not sure if this the best, or indeed most logical, way to fix it, but it seems to work.
Select all the tracks in an album which is misbehaving, right-click and "Get Info", and then add an entry in the new "Album Artist" section. Any old text will do. When you choose "OK" to accept the changes, the album's order will return to normal.
I did this with hundreds of albums yesterday before it occurred to me that maybe it would be possible to just select every song in the music library at once, and just type a a generic description in the "Album Artist" section. I haven't tried this, so don't do it unless you're 100% sure of what you're doing, but it does sound like a logical step.

Sharepoint WebParts 2007 / UCM 10g - Having one little problem

So I have everything installed and configured, I've done this several times following the documentation, and I'm having a hard time getting the webparts to display in my sharepoint site.
When I open my UCM site in Sharepoing the IPM Web Express page opens up and asks me for my Oracle Web Portal login. I am using sysadmin and it seems to accept my login BUT - the url looks like this - IBPMExpress/Login.aspx?closeOnLogin=1 . The page is closing (as expected closeOnLogin=1) but it goes back to my sharepoing site and is refreshing the page after UCM authentication and it is going back to the IBPM Express login page. It's stuck in a constant loop doing this and never ends.
I have stopped the IBPM Express login page and changed the parameter to closeOnLogin=0 and it tells me "Welcome sysadmin!" meaning I believe it to be authenticating to my UCM box.
Anyone have any ideas? I've tried setting up an entire sharepoint UCM site... I've just adding a webpart to an existing sharepoing site.. and they all do the same thing.

I am having the same problem as you and was wondering if you have found a solution yet.
I have installed sharepoint and UCM on the same server because it is a test system and I don't have a domain which I thought might be the problem. When I try to log in to UCM via sharepoint the Oracle portal login screen appears and it does not matter what I put in, it never authenticates. I have tried sysadmin, other UCM users that I have created, the sharepoint administrator user (after I added it into sharepoint), users in ucm that I have entered with domain\username (where domain was just the server hostname). Because this is a standalone test environment I do not have any LDAP server that I can link to UCM for authentication.
Any info you have would be greatly appreciated as I have been working on this for a few days now and have never goten past this point.

[SOLVED] LXDE,one little problem

i'm new to arch linux,and i've installed it sucessfully,to an extent
the problem i'm having doesn't seem to have a solution in the Wiki,so i'm going to ask here,maybe i missed something
the problem is that i can't move,maximize or minimize any windows as the bar responsible for that isn't there,maybe i messed something up in xorg.conf,but i really don't know what's wrong
can somebody help me with that?

EDIT : openbox wasn't installed as a dependency of LXDE,that's why the problem occurred,installed it,and it was fixed

Just one character problem.

Hi everybody,
I am using oracle database 10gR2 and I have approximately 2000 tables some field in English and the others in Arabic.
The character which I have problem with is called {لا}.
This character is appeared as question mark (?) instead.
I don't want to make an update statement because of there are thousands of Arabic fields contains this problem.
If I want to do an update statement to solve this problem, so I have to write thousands of update statements on each Arabic field has this problem , this is really exhausted.
Do anyone has an idea how to fix them all at once?

In (Win95/NT/2000 client ) by using the blow details .

You can change database character set by doing the following steps.
Login to oracle Database server as sys privilege. If Sys Is Primary User otherwise Login to oracle Database server as system privilege.
