Got iLife 11 for Xmas, is it now "ok" after v9.1.1? Is it all negatives?

Hi
I have Snow Leopard, on an iMac 2007 Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, 2Gb RAM. Ihad iLife 09 on it beofore. I've never got around to using, or starting my iPhoto organising yet, but iLife was 1 of the reasons I swapped to Mac in Dec 2007.
So I've read a lot in here about the negatives of iLife 11, and I know user forums are more biased towards people having problems, but is iLife 11 now "ok" to install/use?
I seen a demo in the retail store, and liked the use of full screen viewing (mines "only" a 20" screen so bigger is better.
I know intially there was corruptions of libraries etc, but I'll be starting from scratch anyway.
but how is iLife 11 overall? especially iPhoto 11? better than '09? I know you always get people complaining, but overall please?
cheers

iLife (and iPhoto) '11 is fine - a very small number of people had problems converting older libraries to iPhoto '11 but nearly all of those issues appear to have been resolved - and many if not most were cause by data problems prior to upgrading and/or user error - in any case 9.1.1 seems to be very stable
That is good then, as I am starting from scratch, and to me Apple will fix database probelms pretty quick as its a basis of the whole product.
'11 is different from '09 and that bothers some people - I find it better, easier to use and much better designed for future enhancements - it has much better design capability for books and the database structure has been changed to what I expect will be the basis for some substantial future improvements in the backend
Can you expand on this a it please, what is different from '09 to '11. I wont use books yet, maybe next Xmas, but would like a user who have used '09 and '11 to explain/inform me of the cnages.
As I say I will be a "new" user really so this will be what I know anyway.
Regarding the database changes, wouldn't have a clue really, but if you say so then this sounds good.
I am a little worried (still havent installed '11 yet), is how my "old" iMac is going to cope, its only a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2Gb RAM, I am tempted t buy a 2Gb stick, to make total 3Gb (as I have 2x1Gb in at mo)
cheers

I got this iphone for xmas and I want to get it acctivated. But I dont wanna have a contract. can I do that?

It many places, including the US, Yes.
Here is a list of supported carriers: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
Talk to one in your country and see what's available.
In the US, AT&T is the only supported GSM carrier. They will not allow you to use pre-paid plans on the iPhone, but they do have post paid plans that are strictly month to month and can be cancelled at any time.

That is about normal. You can maximize battery life by changing some settings. See:
    Apple - Batteries - iPod
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace your battery for less. Google for more.

Replace the battery yourself if you are up to it. You can purchase a replacment for about $10

  • HT1384 I have an iphone 4s just got the nano for xmas can i use my iphone charger to charge my nano

I have an iphone 4s just got the nano 6th generation for xmas can i use my iphone charger to charge the nano?

Yes, you can. The iPhone 4S and 6th generation iPod nano use the same 30-pin charger, unlike the new Lightning charger used by the iPhone 5 and 7th generation iPod nano.

  • HT1212 my daughter got an ipad for xmas and has forgot her password and lockd it i havent sync it to any computer yet how can i diable the password

please help my daughter has locked her ipad
the ipad hasnt been sync with any computer

You'll have to restore the ipad through recovery mode.
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

    Hi,
The Mac version will use your Apple ID as the first and only choice...
... Until you add the same Apple ID to Messages on the iPhone.
Once this is done it is best to Restart the app on the Mac.
This will then get at least one, possibly two pop up saying the iPhone in using the Apple ID and the iPhone Number.
Accepting these Pop ups will enable the iPhone as an ID to be used in the Receive At List.
It will also appear in the drop down at the bottom for "Start New Conversations from"
If you did not set iyt up like this then remove the apple ID from the iPhone in the Settings > Messages.
Place the iPhone in Airplane mode to break with the server.
Take it out of Airplane Mode and re-add the Apple ID in the Messages settings.
Then Restart the app on the Mac as above.
Having done this you can still turn Off the Apple ID on the iPhone (receive as the iPhone number only) or disable the iPhone Number on the Mac (receive Apple ID stuff only)
The Start New Conversations option on the Mac version means you could use the iPhone number so people don't get your email.

  • I got  software update for ios 6 on my iphone 5 and now my phone is broken

The update was for ios 6.0.2. I got this phone two days ago and now it's stuck on a black screen with the apple icon. I can turn it off but when I turn it on it just freeezes ther again. Please help.

Hold down both the power button and the menu button for at least 60 seconds. Don't worry about what the phone is doing, it's sounds like the update has bricked the phone. Thankfully, because you were updating using an official Apple update this isn't permanent.
Once you have held the buttons down for 60 seconds make sure you've installed the latest version of iTunes. Restart your computer and wait until it is loaded, open iTunes and plug in your device using the Apple USB Lightning Cable, Select your device and choose restore.
When restoring, don't choose from a backup (You can do this later, we just need to get your device back to the state it was in when it left the factory i.e. working!)
Let the restore run. Note: when restoring from a bricked state it usually takes three times longer to restore than when doing a normal restore so let it just get on with it (Shouldn't take any longer than 3 hours)
When this is done, set up your device again and log in using your iCloud account.
Once done, check the phone is working. If it isn't there is a hardware fault which maybe resolvable by the Apple Genius Bar so make an appointment. If they can't get it working they will replace it there and then, provided your device is registered to your Apple ID.

i just got the iphone 4 and my husband already had on. we share an itunes account and i signed up for i cloud and now ALL  of my husbands contacts are on my phone ... so I started to delete them (because i thought it would just be off my phone) and he called screaming ..." please stop deleting ...  they are coming off my phone!" so two things ...  how can i get the contacts back ( i got up to j) AND is there a way to get them off just my phone

Unfortunately there's no way to get back the contacts you deleted unless he backed them up somewhere else.  He'll just have to recreate them.  This happened because you are both syncing contacts with a shared iCloud account.  When you do this, the synced data is merged and any actions you take on one phone (such as deleting contacts) is also reflected on the other.  To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).  To do this, on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The other phone will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on your phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to your new account.  At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting the your husband's contacts from your account, and vice versa).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.  When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.

  • I have a first generation iPad and got my husband the iPad 2 for xmas.  is there a way to transfer his tiny tower game from my iPad to his without using the same iTunes account?

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.
