Got into trouble when trying to clean install mac but forget to download the installer.  plz help

hi everyone, I am using retina macbook pro. i wanted to make a clean install for my macbook, so i erased everything in my macintosh HD in DIsk Utility. afterthat, i realised i have to get the mountain lion mac installer into the usb before wipe off the HD. so what should i do now? i have no installer and cannot get back into my mac either (since i earsed my mac already).
thanks a lot!

If you did not partition the drive:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
  1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
  2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
  3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
  4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

I can assume that you're using IE11, and probably with Windows 8.1.
This is a known problem with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft has been aware of since October 18 when they released their latest "untested" browser. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

    Hi Anne,
Your version of Safari is still supported.  Please see Adobe Flash Player | Tech specs for supported OS and browsers.
If the Flash Player plugin is in the Plug-ins (disabled) folder it's because it's an older version that Apple has disabled in Safari.  This has nothing to do with whether or not Flash Player supports the browser.
I'm not sure what you mean by "when i click on flash player itself i am told there is no application to open it."  Flash Player.plugin only works in the browser to view Flash content in the browser.  The plugin does not open files outside of the browser.  If you have SWF files you'd like to view outside of the browser, then you'll need the Flash Player projector. However, based on your previous comments this doesn't appear to be what you are trying to do.
Google Chrome does embed Flash Player in it, while Firefox does not.   Mozilla has also recently started blocking older versions of Flash Player in Firefox similar to what Apple is doing in Safari.
Following the 'clean install' instructions should result in you having the latest version of Flash Player installed that will not be blocked by the browser.

  • Bluescreen when trying a clean install from CD - X61

    Hey,
I got a question from a neighbour if I could help him reinstall his laptop. It's a X61.
He got it from his employer when they decided to buy a bunch of new laptops for the company. Therefore he has no backup discs, no system reset software or anything. It's just the laptop and the power supply. He used the laptop 'as is' for a while but now it needs cleaning. He asked the IT department on his job but they didnt save any discs or software for the laptops. There is a Restore and Resque partition on the HDD which is accessible via the Thinkvantage button at boot, but no software in that console is working.
So he went out and bought a Windows XP license to make a clean install on the PC but we are having difficulties to make it run...
I tried to format an USB stick to install Windows XP from. After boot I only get a blank screen with a flashing marker...
I tried an external DVD-drive since the PC doesnt have any and I get the installations program to run. It starts to load the files but after a short while I get a bluescreen...
I'm running out of options here, any suggestions?

    echX, welcome to the forum,
a solution that works for a lot of people is to set the SATA to compatability mode in BIOS; press F1 at boot > Config > SATA.  After XP has been installed you can install the necessary driver and switch it back to AHCI.

  • No destination disk seen when trying to re-install mac os on powerbook g4

I wiped my drive clean and want to re-install mac os. When it gets to the screen with "select destination" there is no drive displayed. Please help!

Again, you haven't said which model powerbook you have, so I don't know what version disc(s) you have. DU is on the installer OS X disc. Boot from your OSX installer disc by holding the C key down while powering up and inserting the disc. Once it has booted you'll have to go through a few steps to reach DU. I don't recall exactly what they are but you're looking for utilities. The link I gave you should walk you through from that point, though there are some options you might want to choose (like installing OS9 drivers) depending upon your model powerbook.

  • No destination disk seen when trying to re-install mac os on Powermac G4

Hi, I have read previous responses on a similar problem where I should use Utility Disk and reformat the hard drive but I cannot even get the Application Disk to boot...

If you are trying to repair a Tiger (10.4.x) drive you should use a Tiger installer disk which will contain the correct version of DU. An earlier version will make a mess of your drive since it won't know what the newer OS needs.
[Only use Mac OS X 10.4-compatible disk utilities with Mac OS X 10.4 volumes|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2648?viewlocale=en_US]
It isn't clear exactly which G4 you have. Is the 1.25GHz processor original or an upgrade? If original then OS9.0.4 wouldn't boot your computer anyway since you probably have a Apple Power Macintosh G4 1.25 DP (MDD) Specs (M8573LL/A) which came with 9.2.2 and won't boot to anything less. You have the wrong set of original installer discs (which don't have Tiger anyway). If it is an upgrade processor then please let us know the original configuration model. Either way, if you want Tiger you need a set of Tiger discs.
If you are trying to install Tiger you should just use the Tiger disc and boot from it. You could use earlier versions (even OS9) to format the drive but you might as well use Disk Utility on the Tiger installer disc.

  • Trying to clean install Mavericks but hard drive partitioned and won't allow

My MacBook Pro 2012 was set up with a partitioned hard drive. Now, as I upgrade from 10.8 to Mavericks, I'd like ot use the Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and then use the interface to install Mavericks, but it won't let me erase the hard drive.
On the left side of the Disk Utility, below the main hard drive, there are two drives noted, with the OS and something else.
Can you suggest how to do something here? I'm stuck halfway.

I'm not sure what you are doing, but if the Recovery HD is still there:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • When trying to drag a file, system will not release the file. Help!

Since installing an update to OSX Lion whenever I select a file and try to drag it to another location, the fle will not release.  I have to reboot.  This happens whether I use trackpad or magic mouse.  How can I fix this?  I do not have any assistive items turned on.

    Have you tried repairing permissions?
Go to Applications, then to Utilities, then open Disc Utilities, select the disc that's indented, then select Verify Disc Permissions, and when that has run its course, select Repair Disc Permissions.
    Hope that helps.

  • Trying to install Yosemite but does not complete the installation

i have a MacBook pro 13 inch, with Mavericks on it. I downloaded yosemite and started the installation. It runs through most of it and then during the last two minutes it doesnt seem to finish. It has been sitting on "2 minutes remaing" for a couple of hours now. Suggestions? Thanks.

My guess is something is wrong on your disk drive. If you can you should quit the installer. Here are three ways. One should work for you.
If the installer's icon is in your Dock, the CTRL- or RIGHT-click and see if you can successfully quit from there.
Press COMMAND-OPTION-ESC to open the Task Manager. Select the installer's entry and click on the Force Quit button.
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Click on the Name titlebar to display alphabetically. Select the entry for the Installer then click on the Quit button.
Hopefully, this will get you out of the installer without deleting the installer. Now restart the computer to see if you can, and if it's booting your old system or the new one. If it's the latter then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Restart the computer.
Now, run the installer again. Hopefully, it will run all the way through now.

UnInstall the App first and then Restart the computer then Verify and Repair Permissions.
There are so many third party Apps out there that are just problematic to Mac's.  I am sorry for your problems but you can Install a program like GIMP it is Free and Open Source and has always been a very good app for Mac users and it was really developed for users that couldn't afford Adobe's Photoshop.

  • I've got TWO problems when trying to run iTunes

I've been trying to solve them separately, but each one of the answers requires for the other problem to be solved, and I am desperate. I've recently (one week ago) bought an iPad mini and I regret buying it, since I can't sync it to my computer. I don't even know what to do anymore, and its been TWO WEEKS of constantly trying.
The problem started when I tried updating iTunes as usual via the Apple updater. Somehow it gave me an error message, so I did as told by the program and downloaded it manually. After that, I got an R6034 error. Following a thread's advice, I uninstalled every Apple-related program in my computer, even did some cleaning-up, just in case. I reinstalled it, and when I thought I was done, an error popped up claiming that I don't have sufficient privileges to start system services, so Apple Mobile Device failed to start. I tried to fix this, but the R6034 error keeps popping up EVERY time I try to install or even RUN iTunes.
What should I do? All my music is in this computer, and I am even thinking about asking for a refund on my iPad and iPod. iTunes has never given me trouble and I've been using it for at least 5 years, but this problem is big enough to make me reconsider whether or not use it.
