Got ipad without 3G Wifi- can i order it seperately?

I ordered the most basic ipad model and didn't get the 3G + Wifi preinstalled. is there any way i can order it or get internet anyway?

Yes and no. Well actually, NO but you do have options that don't seem all that attractive. Your iPad does have WiFi just not 3G. You can't add the 3G to a wifi only iPad but you could resort to something like the Verizon MiFi to get a wifi cellular connection wherever you may be. I think you're looking at around $50-$60 a month for that solution however.

Printing from an iPad without a WiFi Connection?

Alright, gonna see if I can get a solid answer to the golden question, "Can you print from the iPad without having an active WiFi network?"
Just got a 3G iPad 2 for my uncle. He loves it. He wants to print, but lives in a very rural area, and they have never had internet before the iPad. I have seen two possible answers, so maybe someone out there could clarify?
1.) Connect to a printer that has the ability to create an ad-hoc wireless network. One post referred to the HP Envy as a solution to this.
2.) Connect an airprint enabled printer (he bought an HP Photosmart 5514) to an AirPort Express and setup an ad-hoc wireless network.
     - I don't think #2 is possible, unless you can setup an ad-hoc wireless network using Apple's Airport Utility directly from the iPad and not a computer.
     - The printer my uncle bought (HP Photosmart 5514) IS on Apple's AirPrint supported list (with a firmware update perhaps?).
Just looking to clear the air and get an answer. I was thinking of having him return the HP Photosmart and getting an HP Envy if this is a possibility.   That way, he can join the Envy's ad-hoc wireless network when he needed to print, and re-join the 3G network when he wanted to browse.

I have solved this exact requirement by purchasing an HP Photosmart 6520 wireless printer. Works like a charm.
I have an iPad with 4G cellular, and I have no wireless router for Internet in the house. My only Internet connection is 4G through Verizon cellular. I have no wifi router, hence no wifi network.
The HP 6520 has a "Wireless Direct" mode, and the setup guide tells you exactly how to set it up for wireless printer if you have no wireless router.
You set up the wireless direct through the touchscreen menu, and the printer publishes its own SSID.
On the iPad, and also my iPhone, I connect to that wifi SSID.
Then using the iOS print apps in Mail, Safari, Photos, etc. - Print to the HP Photosmart and it works perfectly.
No router needed at all.
And the cool part, I can print Photos from the iPad or iPhone to the Photosmart, which has a nice 4x6 photo paper tray, and the Apps and printer are smart enough to send it directly to the photo paper (vs. the normal 8x11 paper).
And this particular printer will print 2-sided if you want it to, and this option is presented to you in the iPad and iPhone printer dialogue.
This printer was $110 at Best Buy. I am quite a happy camper. Getting one now for my mother also who has iPad with 4G but no wireless router.

No, the wifi-only version doesn't have a sim-card slot not the associated hardware inside. A couple of options are to get a mifi device, or if you've got an iPhone then you could use that as a hotspot.

If you have the 4G model then you can sign up to a plan when you need to start using 3G/4G on it, until then you can stay on wifi. If you have the wifi-only model then you can't as it doesn't have the 3G/4G hardware within it - in which case you can either return your iPad for a refund and get the 4G version (Apple stores have a 14 day returns period for purchases from them), or you could use an iPhone as a personal hotspot for it or get a mifi device (which use sim cards and act as a mobile hotspot).

You can tethe, but depending on carrier you may need to pay for that option... I've decided to have my phone on one provider and my ipad on another so i always have connectivity... More expensive in the long run, but I need to make sure I am always "on" for work

I am in America for vacation and I want to update my iPad without loosing my music and some big PDFs that can't be transferred in my new laptop. When I click update I will loose these files? I transferred my apps, photos, movies, and some books and PDFs. How can I update the iPad without syncing? Can I update it and then click restore from backup to get my music and my PDFs??? Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I bought a mini iPad for my wife, she was trying to activate it without apple id. She used a gmail address for id while her id is hotmail. I tried several
times to reset her password and connect the device with iTunes by pressing the home button. The iPad has locked into the first supposed id gmail.

If she activated the iPad with her gmail then you will have to use that account to unlock the device.
