Got mine today...any tips?

Well, I got my MBP today, on a fluke. I went by my University bookstore and low and behold, they had MPB's in stock. I about fainted right there. Since I am a law student, I get the student discount, so I went for the 2.16/100/2MB RAM.
I have not opened it yet becuase I have a paper due tomorrow. (Yes, it's agony waiting...) Are there any tips, suggestions, etc. that I should know before booting up and transferring files? I'm a recent Mac convert, so I don't know all the ropes yet....
Bob, it looks like we have the same configuerations, so I hope mine works as well as yours.
Thanks in advance...

There's no accounting for taste.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist: I'm a K-State grad. KU is a great school for law and medicine.)

  • I got mine today....

Yes I got mine today, but not from Best Buy... After going to a few BB locations, it appeared to me that no one knew when they can expect inventory. What was also evident was how confused the reps were of the issue. I know that they are left out of the loop and really dont know, but in my opinion no matter what the issue is "I dont know" is never an acceptible answer, especially in a customer service type field.
I went to a local Apple store and they had plenty in stock (no white though).
It is in my opinion that either BB underestimated the demand, or really dropped the ball on this launch.

Well, I agree with much of your post.  Our company was kept mostly out of the loop from Apple.  I am happy you finally got an iPhone 4, even if it wasn't from us.
Rest assured, this feedback has been heard loud and clear (mostly because of this community) and the appropriate leaders are already aware.
    Thanks for posting!

  • Going from my 4 to the new 6 today, any tips?

So my new iPhone 6 16 gb space gray is out for delivery, actually mine and also one for my wife, we are both coming from the iPhone 4.
This is the first time I have ever pre-ordered a new iPhone, especially setting the alarm to get up when pre-order started ugh, in order to get one on release day.  But I did it successfully, and today we will have our new devices. And, this will be the first time I have ever gone through activating my new iPhone myself.
So what I have done so far, is a complete backup to the iCloud of each phone. I am assuming that is all I really need to do.
I also understand there is some sort of set up assistant that will walk me through the process of setting up/activating the new phones when I first power them on? I presume this will allow me to restore all my stuff from iCloud, and activate the new phone while de-activating the 4?
Probably dumb questions, but when we got our first iPhones, which was the 4, we just went to the Verizon store and they did everything there for us.
    Thanks for any tips...

I'm very excited for you, dburne! Thanks for reaching out. The good news is you have already taken the most important step in getting your new iPhone 6 up and running: You backed up your personal data. Awesome! And yes, the new device will include activation instructions. And we'll be here to help if you need us. Enjoy!!

  • Exchanging 1.83 for 2.0Ghz Today, Any Tips?

    Hello,
I'm traveling to my nearest Apple Store to exchange my 12 day old 1.83Ghz for the faster 2.0Ghz MBP today. Have any of you sucessfully done this? If so, would you offer any tips? Will I need to pay the restocking fee? Will my AppleCare transfer to my new machine?
    Background Info:
I purchased mine on May 14th with the education discount, along with the AppleCare Protection Program (which has been registered)
    Thanks!
    1.83Ghz MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am not sure about the restocking fee. When I changed my troublesome 15" out for the 17" I had to pay the price difference but no restocking fee. They declared my 15" DOA though. I am not sure what your situation is.
As far as the AppleCare warranty they did transfer that to the 17". The warranty policy states "The replacement product or parts will be functionally equivalent to the replaced
products or parts and will assume the remaining coverage under the Plan."
So yes. The new replacement laptop will replace your old one under the plan. Just be sure to tell them you registered the plan and need to have it transfered.

  • Got mine today-headphone socket broken and can't download itunes 9!

As the title says, got my 5th gen nano today, the headphones plug has to be wiggled to get any sound and I can't seem to download itunes 9 - if i get the nano replaced in the morning will it work with itunes 8?
    Thanks,

I'm not sure about everyone else, but when I plugged my 5th gen into the computer for the first time, I got a message saying 'This device will not work with your version of iTunes, please upgrade to the latest version' -Or something to that effect. I had iTunes 8 and I would have preferred to stay with it, but I was forced to get 9 Oh well...
So to answer your question, a new 5th gen Nano most likely will -not- work with iTunes 8.

  • Got mine today!!!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone.
Picked up my Macbook Air today. Just got in. Have it charging now. Tomorrow will be a fun day of play!!!

    Congratulations, I'm so jealous!
My wife and I just got back from a visit to an Apple store where we got to play with one. Actually my second time, her first. Almost wish something would happen to one of our books so we could consider one, knock on wood.

  • Need to update from MAC OS X server 10.4.11 to MAC mini server, any tips?

Hello I am having issues to migrate from a Mac OS x server version 10.4.11, processor 2GHZ PowerpcG5, to a brand new mac mini server running mavericks.
I been reading posts in the communities saying that I will need to get a snow leopard first(?) can I get MAC OS X snow leopard, or it needs to be MAC OS leopard server?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I do not know for certain, but what little experience I have with Server, my guess is that you'll have to get 10.6 Sever.
It's not available online, but might still be had by calling Apple & asking for... Part Number: MC588Z/A
Or, you might repost in one of these areas...

  • I have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external.

Hi.. Tried Syncing my new iphone but got a message that the PC was not authorized. Been using the same PC before.
Went to the Store to Authorize the PC and got a message that this was already authorized.
The same messages show up when you repeat the cycle.
Any tips on how to resolve?
    Thanks..

I'd ask that on the iPad forum.

I have just got an iPad and I want the music to be transferred through my iPod touch using iCloud but I didn't get the music from iTunes so I don't think it will let me do it. Do you have any tips that could help me?

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • Any tips on setting up and using akai mpk mini in logic 9?

any tips on setting up and using akai mpk mini in logic 9?
    Im stuck!!

To really find out in what frequency range the harshness you're describing lives you should enhance it first making it even more harsh and then reduce it with steep EQ bands. Just dialing in some EQ at 3 k because "they say" that's where the harshness lives will not yield satisfying results. I also found that using dynamic EQs which only react above/below a certain level work wonders sometimes compared to static EQs. The harshness might only occur on loud parts but not on soft parts so why dial out the entire frequency range for good making everything sound dead. Sonalksis has some great dynamic tools for this and I use those in almost every project.

  • Someone stole my ipad mini today; is there any way of retrieving photos although I didn't store them on icloud?

    Not unless you recover it.
What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
This link, Re: Help! I misplaced / lost my iPhone 5 today morning in delta Chelsea hotel downtown an I am not able to track it. Please help!, has some good advice regarding your options when your iDevice is lost or stolen.

I lost my iphone, got a new sim card and put it in my boyfriend's old iphone. When I synch it in itunes it will only synch with his stuff and not mine. Any ideas how I can get it to synch with my itunes??

Are you using a Mac? It sounds like you are using his computer to sync to. If this is the case, then it will sync to all of his stuff unless a new user is created with your personal stuff on it.
When you want to sync your iPhone to that computer, switch to your user first, and then everything will sync with your stuff. If he wants to hook up his iPhone to sync it, then he needs to switch back to his own username first.

  • Updated my ipad yesterday and today can't connect to the internet by wifi or cellular.  Have tried on 2 different wifi routers, one by Verizon and another by Comcast.  updated 2 iphone 5S and ipad mini today and all 3 work fine.  Any suggestions?

Updated ipad yesterday to 7.0.6 and now can't connect to internet.  Tried cellular, Verizon and Comcast.  Updated 2 iphone 5S and ipad mini today and all work fine.  Any suggestions?

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?
If "No," first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.
