Got My First Blurb Book Delivered Today
I’m impressed with the print quality and color rendering. The monochrome shots using the LR B&W treatment are also very good.
I uploaded from my DNG’s directly the LR4 Book Module.
I used a variety of background colors for pages.
I used some of my own graphics as backgrounds.
I used a variety of page templates including a double page spread.
I checked the uploaded preview on the Blurb website before adding the book to the shopping basket and whilst the images looked over sharp on screen, I decided to trust the LR rendering.
Considering I was not initially over impressed with this new feature, I’m now a convert.
The book took only a few days to print and appears to have been shipped from Eindhoven in the Netherlands to the UK. It was sent by UPS and arrived in London next day.
I was sent a tracking link, and even had the option to change the delivery date, if the suggested date was not convenient.
All in all a very good service.

I am trying to make my first blurb book in LR 4.3. The type on the spine is going left to right instead of top to bottom. How can I change that?
Have you selected one of the templates for Cover?
When you select a Cover Template the spine is pre-formatted for top-to-bottom text. -
I'm having a billing issue with my apple id. I got my first iPhone today and I've signe din etc however before i can download any apps etc i need to resolve an old payment apparently. The problem is i cant enter my new card details because the issue is registered to when i was in America and i require to pay the funds from an American source. Any ideas how i can resolve this? You can email Apple for help but the link is for the iTunes store not the Mac App Store. You've inadvertently poasted in the Using Mac App Store forum but that's ok. Billing issues are the same for the iTunes Store.

I lost my iPod touch 32 GB a month ago, and today I got a new iPod touch 64 GB. While syncing it with itunes, I got my music library, books and purchased items back, but I didn't get my photos and videos.How can I get my old photos back in my new iPod?
Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

hello everyone...I got my very first macbook pro just today and i have a problem deleting the "test" user account. if i can't delete it, the system won't let me turn off the system. I don't know what to do! HELP!!!!
Have you created another admin user? Go to system preferences click users and click the + to add a user; if you haven't already. Once you have another admin user other then the "test" user make sure you're signed out of the test user account. Sign in with the alternate ADMIN USER that you just created or had created already and go back to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and click the same USERS icon near the bottom. Now select the TEST user and click the - sign. This should prompt you if your sure you want to delete the user account. And your done.
New User created and Test User deleted... I hope this helps. -
Just got my first Mac and cant find how to change the appearance of my address book. Can anyone help?
Check out the built-in Address Book Help guide on your Mac (in Address Book, choose Address Book Help from the Help menu. I dont think you can change the way the address book looks in terms of changing its appearance to look more book like, but I could be wrong. I checked out a few google searches and did not find anything that stated how to do what you are asking. If you find you cant change it to your desired specifications, you can always make the suggestion to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I made a 'Blurb' book using Lightroom on a computer that was not mine. I backed up the book on an external hard drive and then tried to import the book into my imac. I wasn't able to retrieve my book. The photos I used for the book project are there, but the 45 page book I made is not there.
What do I need to do?You would need to go to the computer containing the book.
Select the saved book in the Collection panel.
Go to Grid View [ G ] and select all the images [Cmd/Ctrl][A]
File>Export as Catalog and store on media you can use to transfer
Bring this catalog onto your computer
File>Import from another catalog and bring the transitory catalog into your master catalog.
It should bring the images, your collections (including your book) and other settings into your own catalog. -
New Macbook Pro delivered today
My new 15" MBP IC2D is being delivered today. It is replacing my old Powerbook G4, which has passed on to the big processor in the sky.
Any tips or hints I should know?
Tonight I'll have to:
Install the extra gig of ram I ordered.
Transfer my itunes library over from either the external HD or my ipod. (will I have to de-authorize the old 'puter?)
Install Logic Express 7.2
...more music software to come but starting with the basics first. It's been expensive upgrading all my music software to run this new machine.
I already purchased one of those incase sleeves to protect it when inside my bag. I found a cloth to protect the screen from the keys for the 13" MB, but not for the MBP. Is there one out there? I've heard the keys still leave marks on the screen similar to my PB. Are there any other useful accessories you might recommend?
Any recommendations to welcome home the new girl are appreciated.

Something that I did when I first bought my MBP was buy an external Firewire HD and SuperDuper! Start by configuring your MBP to work with your home network so it can connect to the internet and set up your user accounts, but do NOT transfer anything from your old Mac or install any new applications. Then partition the external HD so that the first partition is big enough to hold what's on your Mac HD and clone it, using SuperDuper! to the external HD. Now, go ahead and install your old data and applications to your MBP. Finally use the second partition as a way of backing up your Mac HD as you upgrade and add applications to your computer.
I did this to my MBP so that as I install applications and transfer my stuff, I have a copy of my OSX as I got it from the factory configured for my network. Also, I can backup my Mac HD to the second partition and update it as I do more stuff with it. I backup my MBP before I make any updates or installations, so if something goes wrong, I can boot from the external HD configured as it was when I bought it, so I know that works, then I can restore from my most recent backup that's on the second partition.
It minimizes my downtime and allows me to return the MBP to a time when I knew it worked properly in case I need to troubleshoot any problems.
To some it might seem extreme and a little expensive, but ask anyone who has had a computer fail, having a way to return the unit to a known good version of the OS will make it MUCH easier to see if you have a hardware or software failure.

Blurb Book in Lightroom 5 on my Mac disappeared after 3 days of work. Where can I find a backed up copy via Time Machine or anywhere else?

1) I assume I can just hook the unit up via USB to my Mac and use iPartiion to reformat the drives, assuming each of the 4T drives will be seen by iPartition as a separate drive. That much seems straighforward.
Yes, and in case you ipartition dont see the unit properly, you can use the disk utilities on your Mac and you will be able to reformat the unit to make it compatible with your system.
2) Is my next step to reinstall the WD software and how do I do that? I've downloaded the Drive Utilities and Securities install apps - I assume I just run these with the drive still connected and that's all I need to do?
Yes, just run the applications.
3) What about the firmware update for Mac - when should I run that??
Normally, firmware updates are released to fix any issues that you might encounter on the drive. the latest one was released on 9/24/2014 and it fixed an issue with the drive dropping off of the list after system wakes up from standby mode.
5) And what about the "My Book Live Duo Setup" app for Mac - is that for a completely different model? What's the difference between "My Book Live Duo" and "My Book Duo"? It's these little things that I find so confusing.
Those are different units. The MBL Duo is a NAS (Network attached system) and the My Book Duo is a DAS (Direct attached system)
6) Lastly, when I have all the software installed, is that when I follow the procedure described in the Knowledge Base article ID 5724, "How to install a My Book Live or My Book Live Duo on Windows (8, 7, Vista, or XP) or Mac OSX for the first time"? Or is that procedure only for "My Book Live Duo" but not for "My Book Duo"??
That procedure is for the network units, not for your drive.

I ordered it yesterday, at 9:30PM yesterday I got the Shipment Notification email.

You are only as young as you feel......
This is an example of how you can select the exact content that you want to sync to your device. You do not have to sync the entire iTunes library. You can pick and choose the music, apps, books and so on that you want to sync. This is using music as an example.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on only the albums or playlists that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
You can do this with apps, books, movies .... Whatever .... You have the freedom to sync whatever you want. -
Blurb book precision layout with InDesign
I'm working on a photographic project which I want to end up as a Blurb book. I can use either Blurb's own BookSmart software or InDesign templates/a PDF export preset for this.
However, I don't think BookSmart will allow me to freely and very precisely place and resize photos where I want them, so I choose to use InDesign CS4 (Mac) for this. Here's an example of what I want to do:
I could resize each photo in Photoshop first, but I need to try out different sizes within the layout before comitting, meaning I probably need to do this in InDesign. And just dragging freely with the mouse won't do because I need to repeat the exact same layout for the next pages.
So how do I very accurately resize an image to say 7cm width and place the next one 1cm next to it?
And has anyone here tried designing book layouts for Blurb before? Any tips or suggestions for a Blurb newbie?I didn't quite understand how to use it but it gave me some ideas to create a new master page myself.
It now looks like this (click on the image to make it larger):
I made two frames (for the pictures) to the correct size and placed a third frame in between to add space. There's also a frame underneath for text.
In case you're wondering, it's all about stereo (3D) pictures, and picture size along with the space in between is the key to getting it right.
So I'm trying to figure out what the most flexible and easiest way of experimenting with sizes/placement would be, before actually printing. I could of course go completely "analog", print out the photos in various sizes, cut them out, then place them next to each other on a table to try out with my 3D glasses, take note of what works in order to make appropriate adjustments in InDesign.
But allowing for flexible and precise adjustments in InDesign and/or Photoshop would be easier if it works... -

Veriface is a software who recognice faces. You can associate a face to a Windows users. This is helpfull if you want to start session puttin your face in front of your laptop.
You can start the webcam using the Fn + key assined combination.

Major issues with rendering a book to Blurb from Lghtroom 4.4. I have printed this book once a couple months ago as a test. Everything as perfect.
Now that I'm ready to order the final book a good portion of my images seem to be offline and not rendering even though not one image is has been moved from it's original folder or is giving me a red exclamation point as a warning.
While rendering the book to Blurb it is stopping page by page, image by image and I am having to re-open, re-upload, and re-color edit the images one by one. What is happening? I need to send this 64 page book to print today. Has this happened to others? Please help!Information that would be helpful in finding the issue(s):
1) What image file type are you using and what do they look like inside the Library and Develop Modules (i.e. missing)?
1) Was the Blurb book created in LR4.4 and you now have LR4.4, or did you update to LR4.4.1?
2) OS version
3) Where are the image files stored: Local hard drive, external hard drive?
4) What exact procedure are you using inside LR to send the book to Blurb?
5) What happens when you try the 'Export Book to PDF' button in the lower left-hand corner?
