Got my MacBook 2G/White. ALLLLLL is well

A little positive feedback is in order. I was, in fact, worried about my recent Macbook order after reading the doom and gloom on these boards.
I ordered from Amazon (I know, the stated delivery was stated for far in the future, but in fact I received the Macbook within a week or so) and saved on both delivery (free), tax (none), and got the $100 rebate to boot! It was with trepidation that I decided to actually open the box when it arrived (instead of just returning it and waiting). Finally, I took the big step....
Well, the 'book is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. No buzz, no whine, no crackle, no pixel problem, no problem. This book is, however FAST (updated to 2GB and 100GB 7500 Hitachi drive obtained from Other World Computing). The screen is great, and dollar for dollar, unbeatable.
For all you out there worrying, STOP! There will ALWAYS be problems with any mass produced device. For all you out there waiting until the bugs are worked out, sorry, it doesn't happen that way. Even though current bugs or problems are found and fixed, others will develop. You just have to make the decision to buy whichever book you want and just do it.
Some observations...
1. Screen: The best I have seen on an Mac. ( I have owned many many models and currently have a PowerMac (20"), Titanium Powerbook (original 15"), iBook 12", iMac (G5) 17" and of course the new Macbook). Bright, sharp, great saturation.
2. Speed. Great. Unofficially, every bit as fast as my dual 2G PowerMac (2.5GB). Only have messed with included apps though
3. Heat: NOT an issue. My TiBook gets hotter (and the older iBook JUST as hot or hotter). Another NON-ISSUE
4. Noise. NONE
5. Build Quality. Apple standard, ie EXCELLENT.

In conclusion, I am sure there are those with problems (as posted here). I am also sure that the VAST MAJORITY of MacBOOK owners are experiencing a similar lack of the oft-repeated problems posted on this forum. Buy it, and enjoy it.

These guys are great - I've used them for all my Mac memory needs, and never had a problem. Lifetime replacement, and competitively priced.
I bought 2GB for my Macbook, and like the OP bought a 100GB 7200rpm drive from them and haven't had any problems (except the jealous looks of some friends

Take it back in and gently but firmly try to persuade a senior supervisor to authorize a replacement. Had it been stuck on black, would have been easier on the persuasion, but you may get lucky.

You are still under warranty. Call Apple tech support and let them deal w/it.
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked. Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out. Let Apple deal w/the problems.

Hi I am having the identical problem with my 24" intel iMac 2007..... Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm on round 3 now and with a completely blank grey screen and it won't start up from the disk 1.. I also have diskwarrior and techtool pro as well as the osx leopard and snow leopard disk... The HD is new.. Replaced by apple 3 months ago.. Don't know the cause the first time this happened about 9 months ago.. 2nd time, 6 months ago it never rebooted from the office for mac 2008 critical update... Did a clean install after backing up to TC... Took it to apple replaced HD even though it appeared ok, they checked all hardware and I ran techtool pro daily ever since. Last week software update had several updates avail. Office for mac being one of them.. I updated and have never booted since.. . I swear to never ever use another Microsoft product as long as I live if I can just fix this once more... Help me please

Got my macbook back from Heasync Logic board and now...

I just got my macbook back after 11 days (and i have procare). I brought it in to apple to get fixed because i, like the rest of the macbook using population, was suffering from the random shutdowns... well, i picked it up today... the machine was screaming (as in good) it passed the AHT with flying colors before i left the store... well, i just got home and performed the QT and iTunes updates that i missed while it was at depot and after the required restart... a beautiful stream of colorful lines started dripping down my screen (its the logic board i know) I am not questioning what my current problem is... what my question to all of you who have received your macbooks back after having the MLB and Heatsink replaced....
How many of you have had your NEW logic boards go within a couple days of getting your machine back?

how does one reset the resolution?
system preferences>displays>Display tab
choose an alternate resolution, and then reset it back to the original, and restart the computer
i mention this because apparantly its a flaw in the logic board that is fixed by doing this, its helped others out (search a couple pages deep and youll find more talk about the lines on the screen)

Does your external hard drive have it's own power supply? It should.
Is your external hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system? It won't work.
It needs to be formatted either with Mac OS Extended or FAT32.
(There are drivers available to add NTFS support to OS X but their quality is unknown, especially the "free" ones.)

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

If you just got your new MBP you have phone support from Apple (which is quite good) call them. 800-692-7753 tell the automated answerer "mail technical support" you'll have human quite quickly. Hope this helps.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page. At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often. This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector. Computer monitor first, TV second. But the thing is only 27 in. Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) 3 days ago, I had a terrible experience as the genious who gave me my solid state disk for safekeeping lost my disk's brackets thus I had to wait 2 more hours until they find one after 10 days of waiting for the repair. I noticed some weird sounds, like somehting is moving with the mac 1-2 times, even if I have no mechanical parts other than the fans, but my real issue at the moment is that my microphone is not working. I can see the mic in the System Info however and in Audio Midi Setup. In the Audio Midi Setup I see that the master chanel is turned off and I can't turn in on. Ch 1 and 2 are on full. I also noticed the first seconds after the comp. boots the blue bar goes to the middle in the System Preferences -> Sound -> Input. Any ideas what to do or try? I do not want to go back to the apple store as it is 50 minutes away from here and I need my laptop as a computer science student. Everything else is working perfectly.

You need to call both the store that did the repair and Apple directly, warranty service or Apple care, and report this problem with both of them and get a ticket number of some kind (some kind of verification number) that the unit just came back from major service with this problem and that you want it fixed when you can lose the use of it, which is not right now.
Without doing something like that they could easily say it is damage not covered under the normal warranty.
God knows what the repair center did and did not do to it while it was there.
And depending on when you actually bought it the warranty could run out in the mean time.

You will have to do more than simply changing settings in your moms account. To set up everything in your own account, go to Settings > iCloud > scroll down and press sign out. From this, check out this link for how to setup iCloud on all of your devices after making a new icloud account on your phone: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Before you set that up, you will have to make a new iCould account which you can simply do after you sign out of your mom's account on your devices.

If the MBA is within 14 days of the purchase date from an Apple sore, you may return it for a refund or an exchange.
