Got my MacBook back today- on hold now with AppleCare

My MacBook first shut down on August 7th and was pretty much unusable by the 14th. I sent it in for repair a couple of weeks later, hoping a fix would be developed in the meantime. FINALLY got it back today, with a new heatsink and LB, as well as new bezel and top case. Keyboard is more springy, I think (it's been so long, who can remember?). No RSD since I got it back (phew!), but the bezel on either side of the isight camera is now TOTALLY MAJORLY WARPED. This is not subtle; you can see it from across the room. How can they let this kind of stuff leave their shop??? I don't get it. I was planning to get a Macbook for both of my sons but I am really put off by this whole experience and I think it will be quite a while before I buy another Mac.
macbook 1.83Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   now it's got a warped bezel

Thanks for the suggestion; I understand what you are saying but I would like to think that someone actually LOOKS AT the machines before shipping them out as repaired. I don't think it reasonable to depend on a local store to fix the depot's mess-ups as a regular practice. There is no way the person doing this repair did not notice that something was seriously wrong.

  • Just got my MacBook back from 2nd repair

I just got my MacBook back today. It just had its 2nd logic board replacement because of the random shutdown issue.
When I picked up my computer, they also replaced the Top Case Housing and the Keyboard. Why would the replace this? Does the keyboard and top housing have anything to do with the random shutdown?
Anyways, I will see if my random shutdown comes back. I surely hope not.

Oh ok. I noticed the feel of it is a bit different
    than before.
Another question. I have CoreDuoTemp opened, my
computer has been on for 30mins and it only shows
22-27C. Is this correct? Or is CoreDuoTemp
    malfunctioning?
At 30mins, my MacBook was at least at 45C always.
It's an Intel processor design fault. I got this info from the Hardware Monitor developer.
Q: I have a Mac with an Intel Core Solo or Core Duo processor.
Sometimes, the temperature readings seems to "hang" and are no longer
being refreshed. Is this a problem with the application?
A: No, this problem is caused by an internal design flaw of current
versions of Intel Core processors. The Digital Thermal Sensors may
stop working when the processor returns from a C3/C4 power saving
state. Intel plans to correct this hardware bug for future steppings
    of the CPU.
Intel refers to this hardware problem as Erratum AE18. For detailed
information, please see Intel document 30922204

  • Got my macbook back from Heasync Logic board and now...

I just got my macbook back after 11 days (and i have procare). I brought it in to apple to get fixed because i, like the rest of the macbook using population, was suffering from the random shutdowns... well, i picked it up today... the machine was screaming (as in good) it passed the AHT with flying colors before i left the store... well, i just got home and performed the QT and iTunes updates that i missed while it was at depot and after the required restart... a beautiful stream of colorful lines started dripping down my screen (its the logic board i know) I am not questioning what my current problem is... what my question to all of you who have received your macbooks back after having the MLB and Heatsink replaced....
How many of you have had your NEW logic boards go within a couple days of getting your machine back?

how does one reset the resolution?
    system preferences>displays>Display tab
choose an alternate resolution, and then reset it back to the original, and restart the computer
i mention this because apparantly its a flaw in the logic board that is fixed by doing this, its helped others out (search a couple pages deep and youll find more talk about the lines on the screen)

  • HT3777 if i restore my macbook back to its factory settings with the grey install disk that came with my macbook, will this wipe out the bootcamp partition? (i don't want it to)

i have asked this question a few times now, but i have not got the answer i was looking for:
my macbook is currently on v10.6.8 (a snow leopard version)
the factory settings of my macbook is v10.5.6 (a leopard version; i know that using the grey install disk that came with my macbook will restore my macbook back to this version)
i know that by restoring my macbook to the factory settings, some apps will go (e.g. flash player 12, app store) and other apps will be downgraded (like itunes)
but i am talking about BOOTCAMP. it isn't an app, it's a partition of my hard drive.
my question is, will i still have the BOOTCAMP partition after i restore my macbook back to its factory settings? if so, will all the folders and files in BOOTCAMP still be there?

  • I got my macbook back from apple store and now it wont start

I took my macbook to the Apple store to get keyboard replaced. Now, I can't get it to boot up past the Apple screen with the spinning dial beneath it. I there anything I can do at home or should I take it back? More importantly, is this a fix I'm going to have to pay for because my computer is no longer covered by warranty?

HI. Try botting up your Macbook using the install disk (insert the install disc and press C). On the menu bar, click on disk utility and try repairing the disk and disk permissions.

  • Got replacement MacBook Pro from Apple and now CS2 won't work. Help!

After a long story of woe, which is too long to get into now, Apple ended up replacing my near-dead two-year old computer with a new MacBook Pro. (Yay, Apple!) They imaged my old drive, and put it on the new computer, including the applications. I transferred over my CS2 Suite, but now I'm getting Space Monkey, and my Illustrator will start loading and then shut itself down. Since I got the original CS2, I've moved and moved and moved again, and the disks are no where to be found.
Does anyone have any advice about how to get the CS2 Suite up and running again? Am I going to have to call Adobe and plead my case with them for a new install file?
Help! I have so many files that I need to access.

Your best option is to reinstall it, and if you don't have the discs you'll need to contact Adobe.
Otherwise, since CS is not an Apple product, and your issues are not with an Apple product, you should post further questions regarding CS on Adobe's own forums at: http://www.adobeforums.com

  • I reset my macbook back to factory and now I am missing apps. Where is it and can I get it back

I downloaded something and it messed up my laptop. Like for example ads would pop up everywhere if I would shop online. So i decided to reset back to factory to start fresh. I followed apple's instructions and now that everything is better, I don't have iPhoto, pages, keynote, and more! Where did it they go? I need them! How can they disappear by just reseting my macbook! Please help!

None of those are part of OS X which is all you have installed. You will need to re-download them from the App Store via your Purchases page. You might have been fine by making a backup first or finding out what is installed as part of OS X. Neither iLife nor iWork are part of OS X.

  • Just got my macbook back

They had to replace the logic board. But now my itues insists it is a new computer and won't let me authorize it. how can I reset all of my authorizations, So i can start over and authorize my mini, Ibook, pc, and macbook?

You can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation or a computer you don't have access to on it's on it's own. However if you reach the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go and start over: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
If you continue to have problems you can email Customer Services from this page: iTunes Music Store - Authorization FAQ

  • I just got a MacBook Pro today and I was not sure how to authorize my mac for iTunes

    .

    Authorization
iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

  • I can't download Lion on my MacBook Pro today is something wrong with the site?

I am trying to download Lion for the first time. I have a MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and the Apple Store is not responding. Is anyone else having problems?
    Thanks

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Got my MBP back from Apple-Problems

I sent my MBP in for repair on Monday and got it back today.
I now have a couple of annoying problems. The first thing is every time i boot up my computer, it says "Your computers clock is set before March 24, 2001." Some applications may have issues etc. The first time i thought nothing of it but every time i restart my computer it says it. I went into date and time and had ti sync with time.apple.com and it did so successfully. The data and time are correct and i just restarted and the same thing happened so it seems my computer isn't keeping time while off. The second this is every time I turn on my computer or wake it from sleep, i have to put in my Wi-Fi password again. I check the box that tells it to store it in my keychain and I check in keychain access and it shows it stored. How do i solve these problems?
Lastly, i got my computer back and they didn't do a re-install of the OS so everything is still on my computer but when I plug in my external drive, it comes up as the green time machine drive but whenever i try to backup, it fails. Why is this? I would like to be able to access my old backups and just continue. I know there is plenty of space, my time machine drive still has 118gb free. I don't know what apple did to my computer but they fixed some problems and created a few more to take their place!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Just got a Macbook and have a few questions

Ok, so I just got my Macbook laptop today and because I have never owned a Mac product i just had a few questions
First off, is it safe to be plugged into the internet right off the bat or do I need to go out and buy some antivirus software? i have heard from some people that macs have built in antivirus and that they are also just in general less likely to get a virus then your average pc.
also just wondering, when i play a cd the disk reader/laser? whatever you would want to call it makes alot more noise then i expected it to. i didnt know if that was normal or not, and just wanted some opinions from other macbook users. thanks!!

On these forums, just about anyone you ask will say that there is no reason to get antivirus software. Most mac users don't have any installed. It's not viruses on the mac you really need to be worried about; it's stupid stuff like phishing or scams - things that don't have anything to do with the operating system - that you just have to watch out for. You'll be fine without antivirus software. The thing I really liked about my mac (windows user all my life; switched 6 months ago, haven't regretted it) is that instead of worrying about viruses and keeping my anti-virus/spyware software always up to date, I was just able to start using my mac, right out of the box.
They do make antivirus software for macs. If you really are that worried about it, go to:
    http://www.clamxav.com/
The ironic thing is that it checks for windows viruses (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you don't pass them on. A windows virus won't have any effect on your mac.
Surf the net. Be productive. Stop worrying. Have fun. Welcome to Apple.
    ...not a bad little slogan
EDIT - wow, a million people posted while I was writing this reply. meh.
